My son is a freshman at IU this year and given the train wreck of a season Michigan has had it was a pleasure adopting and rooting for my son’s team. I’ll make a game next year for sure.
I watched the NW dual. I don't know that much about the sport but I am learning as my son started wrestling this year as a HS freshman. He just wrestled varsity for the first time last week and was thrilled to win.
It is hard to work out with him now because he can go longer and harder than me with no problem. Their conditioning is awesome.
I graduated EE from UM about a quarter century ago. Just graduating with good grades was the hardest thing I think I've ever done. I've had a very successful career and my teams and I have done some great things but I swear it has been easier than just surviving some of those EECS classes.
All that pain and suffering seems to have made everything else I've had to do seem easy in comparison.
I am 48 and the only thing left that I care about is Michigan football but I no longer go crazy if we lose. I used to let losses ruin the weekend and that is frankly not worth it.
But I won't miss any of their games either.
I watched zero NFL this weekend and I still haven't got around to watching any playoff baseball. These are all things I would not have missed in my 20s and 30s.
But I purchased Thanksgiving tickets one year way in advance and it turned out I had to try and watch in airports for the OSU game (Shawn Crable game). During a layover my family and I were in a bar watching the 4th quarter next to some random German tourists who were amused by my passion.
Finally it came time to board but the game wasn't over. I told my wife and kids to go on without me and I would figure out how to get back home later. This obviously isn't normally a big deal but it was a holiday. The Germans could not believe I was doing that.
I did manage to fly standby on another flight later that evening (albeit in a very bad mood).
Listen to the Jocko podcast and if he can't motivate you then nobody can. But really it sounds like you are almost there on your own. As Jocko would say: "get after it"!
At 12 I delivered the Detroit News. I enjoyed cutting off service to whoever would not pay me. If you remember the movie Better off Dead, I loved the paper boy in that movie who would ride his bike chasing after someone saying "I want my two dollars"!
At 16 I worked at Kroger. The first day I had to clean rat crap from underneath the bread shelf. They forced me into the union too.
In 1986 the freshman hockey players snuck a quarter barrel into the stadium underneath a wheelchair. They sat behind me and we did keg stands during the game.
I remember it was minimally not too uncommon to see Stroh's 30 packs in the stadium.
Is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This occurred in his second life after chess.
I my last tournament it took me 1hr 45mins to defeat an adorable 6 year old girl. My next match took 3.5 hours as I lost to a 9 year old boy. I suck at BJJ, chess and football but I like them all.
From someone who has lived in Austin for the last 25 years, and lives 10 minutes from Stubbs and other great BBQ, I have to say this looks outstanding. I had Franklin's last week too! Alas, I am too lazy to actually go through this whole process.
Salt Lick is great for tourists but Franklin and La Barbecue have the better barbecue. If you don't want to stand in line or drive to Lockhart go to Black's in Austin or Stiles & Switch.
Either way BBQ north of the Mason-Dixon Line is no good and I think Central Texas is top dog. Of course I'm biased after 25 years in Austin.
came to serenade us at Adams house and the hockey players on the 4th floor greeted them by throwing beer bottles at them. They had the most vandalized hall in the dorm system that year.
Another story about them is that they snuck a quarter barrel into Michigan Stadium. They did it by hiding it under the seat of a guy (not actually handicapped) in a wheelchair. We did keg stands during the game.
Oh they also stripped a Miami (YTM) fan of literally all his clothes as he cheered in the student section. His underwear was in shreds.
Sorry for the non dorm stories. I got carried away.
Also I beat Rumeal Robinson in nerf hoop around the world. He said I had a better touch than him. Cool story bro.
We also "snuck" a keg we stole from a frat party into West Quad. To "disguise" it we put a Twister mat over it and when the RA confronted us we simply said we were going to play twister giving him weak plausible deniability. We carried that keg a long freaking way.
I was sleeping in my West Quad dorm room when I was awaken by someone at about 3am loudly playing drums. Words were exchanged between the West Quaders and said drummer. Threats were exchanged but all ended peacefully. I remember thinking: "I could drink with that dude.". Come home Jim and drum all you want.
