The academic standards at…

The academic standards at Michigan probably pare that potential pool of talent down by a lot.

"... get them on probation."…

"... get them on probation." Some things are beyond the realm of possibility.

I understand McNamara…

I understand McNamara leaving. His only chance of making it to an NFL practice squad (or possibly even a late round pick) is with another team. But All's leaving - and the implied darkness of his tweets - is just weird, unless he is of the mind that McNamara got screwed over and he's just not going to take it anymore. Or something.

My daughter read somewhere (has to be reddit) that it's a disagreement over medical treatment and condition. Whatever, it's nowhere near as clear as McNamara's flight to fame and fortune.

Well, no, they didn't lose…

Well, no, they didn't lose because of a botched fake punt. They lost because they were a not particularly well coached. The fake punt is just one of the signposts.

To me, the game looked a lot…

To me, the game looked a lot like UCLA last year. The V defense was physical and kept M off balance most of the game. I don't blame M for missing all those shots at the rim. They had to fight harder than ever just to get position, leaving them just enough off to make the shots uncomfortable.

Clearly the coaching staff…

Clearly the coaching staff has seen something to keep Jones as the starter rather than Collins. Today showed why. Jones finally penetrated and took (and made) open threes. His assist:TO ratio was finally in the neighborhood a Michigan point guard is expected to occupy.

I'm hoping we'll see more of this in the new year.

So, we're going with, he…

So, we're going with, he should be fired, right?

A couple of years ago, I was…

A couple of years ago, I was at a conference with a UM prof who was also an OSU alum. I mentioned that my favorite OSU coach of all time was John 2-11-1 Cooper. He said, really? My favorite UM coach is Jim Harbaugh.

I didn't even know I had a tail until I discovered it quaking between my legs.

Spot on.

meh

When's basketball start? I…

When's basketball start? I don't understand this thing you call "football." I'm not sure the head coach does either.

It's not how good or bad you…

It's not how good or bad you were a month ago, it's how well you're playing today. The Cheating Illini whupped us in the worst beatdown I can remember in the past decade or more. It's not that M couldn't buy a bucket, it's that Illinois' defense was incredible. Recall all the drives to the basket by Illinois in the second half vs all the drives to the basket by Michigan (yeah, I can't recall many either). Every dribble entry by M was shut down. Most dribble entries by Illinois resulted in two points, or an offensive rebound or putback.

And M got very few open three looks. They were just bad last night. If the teams meet again, will the results be similar? Absolutely not.

I used that a couple of…

I used that a couple of years ago on a B-school prof with ohowihate pedigree. His response? "We're kind of fond of your current coach."

Burn, baby, burn.

No, she's upset because the…

No, she's upset because the U chose to hope the whole thing just went away, sort of like how the idiots in EL dealt with Nassar. And she's right.

The hope is that Schlissel embraces the problem and keeps the story and conclusions public - and, of course, that he doesn't try to whitewash the whole thing.

It's clear to me that this…

It's clear to me that this team is a work in process. Predicting record or even games is a fool's game. There's clearly talent on the team, but it may take a while for it to come together. Either that, or the spate of bad shooting may be an indication that the talent level isn't really high enough to be top tier.

Doesn't change my appreciation for the team, though.

Why go back as far as…

Why go back as far as RichRod?

Asking for a friend...

I don't understand Kenpom at…

I don't understand Kenpom at all. I'd expect SOS to be a dominant part of the calculation, but it clearly isn't. M's SOS is better than pretty much everyone above them in KP, but they're still at 12. Sagarin doesn't seem to have that problem, having them show up at 3 after this past week's impressive run.

Seriously. I was kind of…

Seriously. I was kind of surprised at how his trey looked like a real basketball shot, unlike last year where he seemed to fight every j he took. Wonder if he's found the solution to his woes at the stripe.

TBF, that's been Beilein's…

TBF, that's been Beilein's calling card, getting the younguns up to speed when it's their turn.

Oh wait. Beilein's gone. Good on JH. Part of the Beilein magic was recruiting guys ready and eager to learn and to get better. I trust Howard gets that part of it and continues to recruit good guys with lots of potential. The 5-stars are nice, but seeing lightly recruited Michigan men continue to fill the NBA ranks is really satisfying.

Iggy needs another year of…

Iggy needs another year of seasoning. Poole is borderline 1st round. If he comes back, he could make it to top 10 just because he'll have another year of molding by Beilein. If I were guessing, one will stay, one will go.

OTOH, they gave M possession…

OTOH, they gave M possession on a ball they batted out of bounds. And I thought you could only take three steps to the basket in the NBA. Seems to be a fair amount of that with this team.

I wonder what Iggy's numbers…

I wonder what Iggy's numbers look like on his drives? I'm pretty sure going to the hole everytime he decides to go for has a fairly high success rate.

um...

say what?

i'm pretty sure i was

sitting with hugh cohen and someone else (like i can remember, eh?) :) did we go to games together? i don't recall...

You Betcha Craig

The Marquette game was the single most amazing sporting event I've ever attended. Crisler went wild after that win.

you must be color blind

that was a blue wall, dead and lifeless. :(

"Unless there's a major shift in his recruitment ..."

that wouldn't be osu boosters digging a little deeper, would it?

try using adblock with chrome

save you a bit of grief and annoyance.
