"Looked" being the operative word. :)

It's usually exactly the opposite for me. MGoBlue.com has one of wonkiest video players I've seen.

Glasgow is also a year older than everyone except Miller (whose size probably offset his experience). I think that bodes well for the guys with the same experience now as he had last year. He's also a son of doctors, so chances are he's probably pretty sharp mentally (DUI antics notwithstanding) which may have made his development a bit faster than most. You're right though, he seems to be one of the counter examples to the "Funk can't coach" theme.

We haven't seen them as 2nd and 3rd year guys yet, save for a scrimmage early in camp and a handful of super zoomed in practice videos. Much of the info we're judging them on is when they were 1st and 2nd year guys, which is unequivocally young for anyone, let alone OL. As long as they take an incremental step up from last year, I'd consider it normal and expected progression. I don't think anything beyond competent by the end of the season is a reasonable expectation for a line this age across the board, especially considering the chaos last year which probably stunted their growth.

He looked fantastic in the most recent game. He really moved well in a system that requires it and showed the footwork to wall guys off in the hole that made him so special here.
|13 hours 15 min ago||Watching those replays, it||
Watching those replays, it strikes you how often guys were asked to do fairly amazing things like reach a slanting DT without any help from your buddy he's actually slanting towards. I think the IZ scheme is much better suited for our guys in that initial blocking of the DL with combination blocks will help make sure there isn't the instant penetration we saw so much of last year.
I'm not totally sold on Funk, he had his issues with older guys before the great OL shake-up of 2013, and some of the problems last year were guys just getting straight up beat. But, I do think Borges was also simply asking too much of his young interior line for big chunks of the season. This year, every single clip of OL drills is of guys practicing combo blocking and then releasing. That alone should pay dividends immediately, even if it's settling for 1-2 yard gains initially. It's still better than the drive killing TFLs we became so familiar with last year.
|14 hours 50 min ago||Because the last thing that's||
This was from the WR preview in reference to Funchess's likely undeserved reputation for drops, but I'm hoping it applies to OL from last year to this year as well. Obviously, OL struggles were way more of a pattern than Funchess's drops were, but I still suspect our collective dread is a bit of an over correction of what happened last year. Instead of the "it cant be worse" of last fall, we're going with "it wont be better" this time around because we dont want to let our guard down again.

|17 hours 30 min ago||They seem like something you||
They seem like something you buy, maybe get autographed, and have them framed into a nice display piece for the man cave. I can't see people actually wearing these. It's kind of like replica helmets in that sense.

I think the backlash is against the Susan G Komen's aggressive branding of everything pink and their litigiousness in defending that brand. Also they have a fairly high rate of "administrative costs" and have engaged in some other controversial issues that I won't mention due to their political nature.

He has even less of a reason to wear one this year now that Nuss is joining Mattison on the sidelines instead of being up in the booth. The whole headset obsession is fucking silly anyway.

Yes, the president of the university is going to fire the guy adding millions of dollars to the general budget because of the football team's record.
|19 hours 1 min ago||What do you make of Heitzman||
What do you make of Heitzman being left off of the depth chart completely? Granted, they only had one TE position listed and only 2 deep, but it seems to not bode well that they didn't even have him as an "OR" or as third string.

And I don't mean to pick on Joshua, he's hardly unique in this respect. But man, that article is literally just the quotes from this presser dressed up with some verbage to set up the context for each quote.

|1 day 33 min ago||Seconded, the banner has been||
Seconded, the banner has been a outgoing senior for a while now, and Devin would be a solid choice considering all he's been through. The alternative would fit the theme this year that they are a team with no egos or named leaders.
|1 day 41 min ago||The questions are absolutely||
The questions are absolutely awful though. They're just open ended questions about player X or position group Y for the coach to just say a couple of things so that the beat writers can get some filler for their pieces this week. If they'd asked more pointed questions, they may have gotten more specific answers. I for one am disappointed no one asked anything about App St and our approach and concerns, it is game week after all.

|1 day 10 hours ago||I agree with most of what you||
I agree with most of what you said, but let's take it easy on the Lewan stuff. I kind of feel like we're throwing the guy under the bus based on a lot of heresay and conjecture. I have no doubt he wasn't a model human being, but let's not forget this is also a guy that had enough character to forgo millions of dollars to come back and help his team for one more year. When things didn't go well, you can't blame a guy for being frustrated, and Lewan being frustrated probably wasn't the prettiest thing to being around. But, this trend to take the failures of last year and pile it all at his feet is unfair and revisionist, and has frankly always rubbed me the wrong way.
|1 day 17 hours ago||You mean the class he had to||
You mean the class he had to put together in about a month between his hire and NSD? Yeah, ok, they're technically "his" recruits. We have just 9 seniors, and only 2 on offense. That's absurd and never happens in a stable program. His first full class are Juniors and RS Sophmores.
|1 day 19 hours ago||With the spread teams on the||
With the spread teams on the schedule, he was asked to do ridiculous things when they went to nickel, which was often. Yeah, he has more upside as a SAM against downhill running teams, but more often than not he was playing defactor DE or nickelback. At MIKE, he'll be in on just about every play. He may not be as productive by the numbers, but he should make the defense better as a whole from there. At least that's the theory.
|1 day 19 hours ago||I want this season to be a||
I want this season to be a great one, more for Devin than for myself. This kid has bled maize and blue for the better part of 5 years, doing what was asked of him and never complaining about it. He patiently waited his turn behind Denard, he made the switch to WR, and back again. He got put through the literal meat grinder of last season, and then embraced his 3rd OC and QB coach with open arms and set his heart on not only learning the new system himself, but also helping the two guys trying to take his job learn it too.
I'll never forget the time when Hoke pulled him aside after a bad series and looked right at him and said "Be yourself." I hope the OL and other blockers can keep the pressure off him a bit this season, but almost more importantly I hope he can take the pressure off himself because when he's playing loose, he is one of the most dangerous players out there.
|1 day 20 hours ago||By all accounts, Gardner||
By all accounts, Gardner thrived on the competition, as token as it was. It also really sounds like he's taken it upon himself to mentor Morris and help him improve. It was annoying at times to have the few idiots that actually took it for a QB controversy, but in general I don't think it was a negative.
|1 day 20 hours ago||"ive also never really||
"ive also never really believed that the coaches are committed to him on the inside."
Not a chance, they changed from 4-3 under to 4-3 over to facilitate moving Jake Ryan to the middle, not the other way around. He's the centerpiece to this defense and the coaches are 100% all in on the move.
|1 day 20 hours ago||I mean, a depth chart is||
I mean, a depth chart is inherently useless though. It's a rigid way of trying to describe a fluid situation. My point is we have 6 good options for 3 spots and the coaches can rotate people to stay fresh with no drop off and/or use the right guy for the right situation.
