I know of Matt D from some other boards and he's mentioned this stuff before. His general thoughts on this are that the kids tend to not like how JB recruits because he does not stay in consistent contact with them during the recruiting process. Causes them to not feel prioritized/loved, and that they do not have a relationship with the staff.

Matt, what level of player do you think Dejulius is ranking-wise?

C'mon man. We got blown out by 14+ in almost every major non-conference game (with Levert) and routinely got embarrassed against top competition. I remember how it felt to attend the Indiana and MSU games back to back in the Maize Rage. Last season was not fun at all.
Last season was disappointing.

Rice isn't gonna be what they used to be. That school is hemmoraging money and attendance.

Well at this point, we probably can't catch up to Georgia at 3.

To be fair. Partridge's job came a loooooong time after Pepper's commitment. Peppers committed to Hoke and Harbaugh hired Partridge.

Seriously, Red Cedar is the worst message board on the internet.
They are all horrible people. How can you be THAT mad about it? Not only were there statements objectively horrible regardless of context, but there's no way they could legitimately believe they had shot anyway right? If Ambry wasn't going to State, then no one else is.

It doesn't have anything to do with Najee. It has to do with being the #1 RB and position switch concerns.

Yeah, he would be a truly heart-wrenching cut as well. He's been all-blue for a while and very very vocal and passionate about it. Would be tough to recruit Georgia after that.

I think you guys need to realize that Chesson and Darboh were both 3 star recruits who were super raw and not natural pass catchers in high school. The fact that we got the production of them that we did is pretty great. Going into 2015, we thought our receivers were horrible.

Ace, section 130 of the student section has yet to be even close to filled all season. The most students we've had at a game is 657. More bleachers isn't gonna fix that issue.

We don't have the talent to do that. Ohio State has years of 5 stars. Check out whose left from our 2014/15 classes. It is not pretty.

We're gonna have about 50 of our 85 scholarship players next year be 1st or 2nd year players.
This is an enormous rebuild that is probably unprecedented for Michigan.

This could very easily be Jim's most talented team. We've got 16+ draft picks on this team.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||This year isn't a failure||
This year isn't a failure just because we didn't win a championship. It's because we are losing 18 starters (all of which were recognized by the B10 and most of which are NFL players), and 70% of next year's two deep will be underclassmen.
We squandered a historically great Michigan team and now have an enormous rebuilding year on the horizon, with no shot at competing for a title next year.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Refs called the game very||
Refs called the game very tight for both teams. A lot of the disparity resulted from Va Tech getting 6 FTs on offensive rebounding fouls committed by DJ. I actually think that Michigan was driving the ball decently for a lot of the game, but Va Tech was always late to contest shots and only got in a token attempt at a block. So most of our attempts at the rim were fairly easy and not the kind of shots that are gonna draw fouls.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think the offensive||
I don't think the offensive style is the issue really. As we've seen from 2012-2014, this offensive style is lethal when you have great players running it. Beilein just hasn't gotten the great players/athletes. Most of it is just a failure to recruit well (failing on Booker, Kennard, Coleman, brunson, thornton, leaf, etc.), and some of it is preference (taking Eli Brooks over Nojel Eastern for example). But I think it comes down to the Jimmys and Joes as opposed to Beilein's style.
We end up jacking up threes because we don't have players who can dribble and slash just based on their natural limiations. So the offensive system has to do everything for them.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I don't personally have a||
I don't personally have a problem with shooting a lot of threes. If anything you should probably be trying to take as many decent threes as you can, but it is true that we do take A LOT. Being #2 among high-major teams is notable. So it isn't overstating to say that we take a metric fuckton of them.
But yeah, most people on here know nothing about basketball.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Well, we're #20 in the nation||
Well, we're #20 in the nation in 3PA/FGA. MSU is #67. So we do shoot a lot of threes. Michigan's low pace, masks a lot of those numbers, although MSU does shoot a lot more threes than they used to.
EDIT: Actually interesting fact I just uncovered. We are #2 among high major teams in 3PA/FGA behind Villanova.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I get that the situation for||
I get that the situation for students isn't perfect, but it's not that bad. You can still have an engaging experience in Section 130/upper bowl if you are willing to bring energy. The few times I was up there, I managed to bring a little life. If you start energy, other people will tend to follow, and the ticket prices should be cheaper, but it's not break the bank expensive or anything. The claim system also really isn't that hard. Just remember the claim day and then pick your tickets. They should probably get rid of it (they originally added it so they could oversell student tickets and then resell any unused) with attendance so bad, but it's not really a barrier to entry, IMO. I'll say this, none of this was a major problem for students three years ago when the team was good. But now that it's bad, student attendance has dropped about 50-66%. We have yet to fill up the entire lowerbowl all year...So no matter when a student shows up, he has a lowerbowl seat to get to.
I really think it just comes down to team performance. Unless you're insane like us, you don't wanna go to a game if they are gonna lose all the time.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||On average, the student body||
On average, the student body at Michigan just doesn't care about sports (or atleast Michigan sports). Even football games are secondary to the tailgating for students. You need hype to get people to show up because they aren't knowledgable. Michigan, frankly, has no hype after being so bad the last two years. Attendance (particularly early-season attendance) is always gonna correlate to the previous year.
That number next to your team name really matters for casual fans.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Wow seriously? Screw the AD||
Screw the AD then. No reason that our basketball tickets should be twice the cost of Purdue's.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I'm gonna have to disagree||
I'm gonna have to disagree with your assessment on the Maize Rage. I was raised an MSU fan and was a freshman at UM during the Final Four year. I bought tickets for the next 3 years until I graduated and then attended almost every single game in the first few rows of the lower bowl. I don't think there was any issue with diehards getting pushed out, it's just that the number of diehards are very very small. It takes a special kind of person to be diehard to the product that has been put out. It takes a real commitment and love of the team that most people simply do not have for basketball, particularly for a mediocre team.
I wish I could say that expanding the lower bowl, or scheduling better opponents would increase attendance, but I doubt it. That's not what people care about. They just want to go to games and not watch them lose.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||For basketball in general,||
For basketball in general, attendance will never be good unless you can develop a consistent tradition of success that will drive people to attend. That's how it is everywhere. Michigan hoops has finished in the top 25 only 3 times in the past 18 years, and only 4 times in the past 22. Beilein has also only elevated our program from horrible to mediocre (he has finished in the top 25 3 times in the past 9 years).
Mediocre just isn't good enough to drive attendance for hoops particularly when our last two years we missed the NIT and were a play-in team. The farther away we get from a successful year, the worse attendance will get. If Michigan hoops doesn't have a top 25 season this year, attendance is gonna get insanely bad.
