I'd just call this the Luke…

I'd just call this the Luke Yaklich appreciation thread.

You never know...

Ben Roethlisberger didn't start until senior year because he had the coaches son in front of him playing QB. The best offer he could get for QB was Miami of Ohio. Sometimes kids blow up late and develop, sometimes they have other guys taking their PT when they are better, and sometimes super athletic kids don't develop (plenty of names in that bucket). This Harbaugh crew seems to be way better than most at finding talent, developing talent, and using talent. So far I see no reason not to give them the benefit of the doubt with recruiting offers and roster management.

Corktown

McShanes and Nemo's in Corktown offer parking (usually free street or lot parking) and shuttles, usually. I see lots of wings jerseys in that area for the shuttle or walking over lately.

Got it

Thanks for the info, explains the snark... thought it'd be an easy question! I've met tons of travelers and even the hockey team's families from setting up those types of events in Cincinnati. Everyone is generally friendly, so hence my surprise.

Nope, not with AND be social

Nope, not with AND be social with Michigan folks who want meet new folks. That's not any bar, at least a few other people have real since answers and not just snark.

Helpful

Thanks for being helpful!

Again, that's not what I

Again, that's not what I asked.

I've been away for 11 years

I've been away for 11 years and seriously have no idea since I was in AA when I left and had student tickets before that. The negs indicate maybe I shouldn't have asked, sheesh, harsh crowd around here.

Thanks, I know that, but

Thanks, I know that, but that's not what I was asking about.

If Friday's crowd

If Friday's crowd is any indication, it's as close to a home game as Michigan could get outside of Yost or playing in metro Detroit / Chicago.

I expect Chaos hockey. :)

No Re-Entry

The response I got from U of M Ath. Dept. Ticket Director Steve Lambright is that the event is no re-entry. As noted here, the event is also dry. So plan accordingly!

Re-entry

One of my friends called the Box Office and got told no re-entry. Due to the conflicting information, I'm trying to get an official answer from the Athletic Department, NCAA, or Alumni Association. I'll let you know what I find out.

Yes...

There could also be 3-ways and 5-ways as well, things getting pretty wild. Unless the Arena is a goldstar place and not skyline... then all bets are off.

*I'm formally neutral in this Cincinnati Chili discussion

No idea

They usually serve beer at events there, so unless it's an NCAA dictate (I've had plenty of beer at the Rose Bowl!), I imagine they will be serving at the game. I think this is an on campus vs. off campus thing and school dependent.

Yes

Yes, as far as I'm aware... not my thing, so it's been a long time personally.

No real plan Saturday

No real plan Saturday, but I'd probably say just the same place to make it easy. I don't like to jinx this stuff, but it also means I'm setting up events on no notice if we do win :)

Sports Bars

Holy Grail Banks (also closeby) is probably your best bet to watch random college hockey. They've got enough tv's they probably would be ok changing one for your especially since baseball hasn't started yet.

4pm ish

I was going to aim for 4pm ish.

I guess I should have checked the schedule, I didn't realize the first game was at 2pm (really hoping for a tv crowd on that one!)

You're all on your own afterwards! :) #FridayNightParty

Yes

Closest good bar to the arena downtown... just this small baseball stadium in between :)

Crowd

Can't guarantee a good crowd, there's been no coordination with the big alumni association, but I thought it's worth a shot.

Does anyone know why...

Does anyone know why Jessica Szohr is going?

Ballz!

Ballz!

I'm sure there are more surprises coming...

Hold Me TomVH!!

Looks like NSD is buckle up day!

Buckle up next week!

Nuts

Nuts!

Last Spring

Last spring Harbaugh had 4 hour practices, but he spread them out... only 2-3 per week. I thought Michigan and other schools usually had squeezed the spring period into a shorter number of weeks. If he does go to FL with the team, it'll be interesting to see how he decides to spread out the contact hours and the team's free time. Got to be careful with NCAA rules, but I'm sure compliance keeps a tight eye on things.

Ty Isaac

If the light bulb went on, I'd love to see Isaac meet his potential. If he's 100% bought in, I bet he has a break out year.

Citrus Bowl Ratings

I'm sure the game had big ratings due to the two marque programs playing and the fact that it was the only football game on New Years Day on broadcast TV. The only one! There used to be a ton of games on NYD and now there are only what, 5 games total and one on broadcast TV. The rest are ESPN/ESPN2.

Any chance...

Any chance that he just had a friend with a twitter account use Harbaugh's icon picture? He may legitimately have the #2 jersey, but it feels odd that Harbaugh is the administrator of the numbers that players wear.

May be legit, but it didn't feel 100% real when I saw it.

Capable

Jim is a capable football coach and he's brought the Lions to above mediocrity, but the terrible front office has likely blown the Stafford / Megatron window for the Lions to achieve anything. He's worth keeping around, but it matters more if they get both of those guys to reduce their bloated contracts and they can build out the rest of the team.

Silly

The internet allows any drunk / stupid / extremely upset fans to just post any inane comment and the clickbait internet sites make a story out of it to try to get your attention. I think there's no need to post it here, not really that interesting.

Compliance

I'm sure the compliance office was involved and this is ok, but I do think it is an interesting post and I'm curious why it is allowed.

Perhaps

Perhaps it's the difference between an offer and a committable offer, we've seen a lot of that this year.

Speculating

Speculating... it's likely Zordich or Jackson hearing something or expressing an interest to be back in the pro game. Then having Don Brown coach the D and a DB position and Patridge coach the LB's, that makes sense and isn't highly unlikely.

Nice!!

Hope he goes Blue!!

2016 Class

It'll be really interesting to see how the rest of the class shakes out, if the camp offer guys stick (current year or grayshirt), and who else might join Michigan & Harbaugh to start something that will likely be really special.

Wallace as WR

The article notes that Wallace wanted to play a skill position and not QB, likely WR. Any chance that helps with Dylan Crawford if Oregon just got a WR?

Subject line should be...

Return of the Butt...

Or is that too cheeky?

Bad jokes... will make them all day.

Spread

Harbaugh ran the read option with Kap at the SF 49ers to great success. To simply say Pro style coaches poo poo the spread presents a false dichotomy. Michigan (Durkin) was quite simply schematically unprepared to stop OSU. Brian made the very accurate point in one of the main board posts that for some reason if you practiced against the spread everyday, you'd be much more prepared to stop it. That's the only main downfall of a pro style offense.

MSU had much better luck against OSU for several reasons noted in this thread and others.

  1. They activated their safeties in run defense
  2. They blitzed and threw the kitchen sink at OSU's run offense
  3. They have incredible linebackers (Michigan has good linebackers, but not at MSU's level unfortunately, those guys are beasts)
  4. OSU's bad offensive game plan
  5. The game was played in a freaking monsoon. Fumbles were frequent and OSU, thinking they still had the advantage in a long slog of a game, chose not to throw the ball or take many chances. It looked like Tressel ball to the extreme with different players.

Take away 2 or 3 of those and OSU should beat MSU based on talent level any day of the week, but that's the way that cookie crumbled.

What's worse? Urban or Dantonio in the playoff?

I'm just glad...

I'm just glad to see a useful board post providing value instead of rampant opinion / speculation, good work!

Depth Chart

For the OP, you know the depth chart by class exists under the "useful" stuff drop down at the top. It's up to date with recruiting.

Big Ten Bowl Agreements

Folks should check out the big ten bowl agreement and overview. Here are some highlights, I'd call attention to #3. The bowl needs to pick 5 different teams over 6 years. So the Citrus Bowl will take teams it thinks are best for $$$$, but will also consider the long term over 6 years (what teams can it get, when can it get them). I'm betting they think they can get Michigan in the near term future, but we'll see what happens.

CAPITAL ONE ORANGE BOWL (Miami Gardens, Fla.) or BUFFALO WILD WINGS CITRUS BOWL (Orlando, Fla.)

1. Orange Bowl hosting semifinal in 2015, therefore Big Ten team will play in Citrus Bowl.

2. Citrus Bowl will submit request for Big Ten team.

3. Citrus Bowl will feature at least five different Big Ten schools over six‐year agreement.

4. Big Ten guaranteed minimum of three Orange Bowl appearances over 12‐year agreement

OUTBACK BOWL (Tampa, Fla.)

1. Will feature at least five different Big Ten schools over six‐year agreement.

HOLIDAY BOWL (San Diego, Calif.)

1. Will feature at least five different Big Ten schools over six‐year agreement.

Smith/Green/Isaac

With the glut at RB and the importance of FB in Harbaugh's offense (and lack of a clear replacement for Houma / Kerridge), I wouldn't be surprised to see Green or Isaac move to that position.

Tempo

OSU used tempo to keep Michigan in base defense and prevent them from substituting, it was the same thing that Indiana did. All year, Mattison and Durkin have done a great job mixing up defenses, but that required changing personnel. Unable to change personnel, OSU (and IU) found their tactical advantage and leaned on it as much as possible. If it wasn't for tempo and that stupid penality on Kineel on the punt, Michigan holds these guys within reason. Michigan will have to find answers at LB and DL play to beat OSU in those base sets.

Only great news is all those NFL draft picks on the OSU side are taking off... but we've said that before! Ikes.

Maryland...

Maryland... this is not the HC you are looking for... ;)

If PSU wins...

If PSU wins... that's a lot of couches to unburn and obscene snow statues to melt...

Shafer

His record prior to RR was stellar and he got hired because he ran an exceptional defense at SU under the previous staff. Shafer is a good coach. But you've got Mattison on the staff if Durkin leaves, so he's an obvious candidate you'd think.

Brady in 1999

Brady was pretty awesome back in 1999, that was my freshmen year. Oh the memories...

Ace is correct

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the best...

Sounds like a pretty awesome class on the DL may happen!!

Kate is a friend of mine

Huge congratulations to Kate! :)

I actually met her in college since her friends seats at Michigan games were a row behind mine and we've stayed in touch at random since then. Glad she found herself someone great!
