I think you could modify Brian'so suggestions and get a better approach than now. You could use a salary cap like system, except instead of salary you use years of eligibility. Any incoming multi year scholarship player counts as a point for each of year he is expected to have eligibility. If he comes back as a red shirt senoir, he counts as a point that year too. His points count whether or not he is still on the team.
You can also offer a limited number of 1 year scholarships.
In any year, you can have a total of 100 (???) Points, not more than 10 (???) Of which can be from one year scholarships.
Obviously the points total could be modified. Don't know what title 9 implications this might have.

I'll bet the Yankees have had several players who once played little league. For example, see this release from Little League:
Little League International extends its congratulations to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter on achieving one of the most significant milestones in baseball - his 3,000th hit as a Major Leaguer.
Mr. Jeter played at the Westwood Little League in Kalamazoo, Mich., where he first learned the fundamentals of baseball. His parents, Charles and Dorothy Jeter, were named the George and Barbara Bush Little League Parents of the Year Award in 2000.

He couldn't very well say that Morris was second after not playing him otherwise he admits that he didn't put the team in the best position to win in the short run by looking at the long run. Speight might have legitimately been second or maybe he was a close enough third that it wasn't worth burning Morris' redshirt. Hard to tell.

We're getting closer to being able to tell how a team of 11 Peppers would perform. Next step is to get Gary on campus and start moving him around so we will be able to more definitiverly answer the age old a team of 11 Peppers v. a team of 11 Garys question.

This guy walks up to a girl in a bar and asks her if she'd sleep with him for a million bucks. She stops, thinks and ultimately says yes. Then he asks if she'd sleep with him for $10. Her immediate reply was "what do you think I am"? He says, "we've already established that, now we're just haggling over the price."
It feels like you're just haggling over price.

Yeah, forget about the fact that the players are generally around campus all summer for conditioning... Are you serious that I can't pay my own way to go to Daytona because you're going to pay my way to go somewhere else in Florida?

The Gary offense, QB sneak every time, with three Garys in the backfield providing a Bush push - that is about 3300 lbs of offense pushing against around 2200 lbs of defense. I think that nets enough yards every time in the beginning of the game to keep the chains moving. By the end of the game the Peppers will be exhausted and unable to stop the Garys. With passing and spread out offense, the Peppers get an early lead, but the Garys stay close enough that by the end of the game, the Gary's huge size advantage takes over having ground down the Peppers.
Since it is a team of 11 Garys vs 11 Peppers, that means they have to play both ways which further breaks in the Garys favor.

Mr Sankey, how is that possible that the SEC supported the move to a four team cfp since that adds 10 days to the season of two teams thereby requiring those teams to spend more prep time? Further, at least some of that prep time occurs over a students break. What about the sanctity of the students off time?

Bettencourt is his best pro playing partner and its not even close. Harbaugh just needs to give him a little Rudock coach 'em up treatment - Start off shaky, get better in middle and by the end pretty darn good.

1) I'm not equating Michigan to the Browns.
So not the same, but way back my dad used to say this about the Browns over the Steelers. At one point in the early 70s, the Browns led the series something like 35-13. Since then, the Steelers have pulled ahead making the overall record 70-58.

His penchant for getting top assistants on top of the scenario you laid out, would mean the program would be extremely strong with lots of coaching tree candidates to continue the success. Nothing guaranteed, but that would be about the best coaching transition scenario imaginable.
