While I get the logic, what keeps a basketball school from getting an extra few recruits by having them on the football team and bringing them on board using a football scholarship. |

It almost sounds as if you think football is a team sport and an effective passing game relies on more than just qb play. Things like receivers ability to get open, pass blocking, play calling... Sorry, that just doesn't fit some people's narratives. |

5 days 3 hours ago | I think there was some talk |
I think there was some talk of changing this, but I found an article from summer 2017 that said the "rule requires athletes to get permission from their current school before talking with other schools. Although the schools cannot bar their transfer, an athlete who didn’t get a release to contact from his former school is barred from receiving an athletic scholarship from the destination school." So, unless that was changed, the NCAA nor previous school can't bar you from transferring, but the NCAA rules allows former schools to bar you from getting an athletic scholarship from certain other schools. |
5 days 3 hours ago | "there should be no |
"there should be no restriction to where they go and receive aide immediately.". Bilas. This is an statement against anybody being able to block a transfer to a specific institution. It is not an statement against having to sit out a year. It seems reasonable that players at a school that got sanctioned ought to be able to transfer and play to the next season (doubly true if the player has already redshirted as making them sit out another year actually reduces the number of games in which they can play in their careers). If nothing else, it becomes a further deterrent. Problem is defining what constitutes a triggering event. |

Thanks for the clarification. I was wondering why California got the Eagles when none of the founding members were born there. Although if it is the most popular artist in each state, it is hard to believe that there are any duplicates. |
1 week 2 hours ago | The fact that MMA didn't push |
The fact that MMA didn't push boxing out, but rather filled the void created by boxing's decline is, I think, irrelevant to the point I was trying to make. If safety was an issue why would MMA arise? So, is it reasonable to expect football will decline because of safety? Maybe the number of participants in football matters? Does football takes a greater critical mass of participants, or, in other words, more people willing to participate despite potential health issues? |
1 week 2 hours ago | I think the "sky fell" |
I think the "sky fell" because a lot of preseason thoughts were predicated on the amount of defense we were replacing. We thought we had a strong qb situation (returning starter, backup that pushed said starter with experience and young studs in the wings) that could lead our offense over bumps. When the defense showed strong early hopes rose because someone would emerge at qb to whip the offense into shape. Well, the offense never did whip into shape. |
1 week 2 hours ago | To me, a lot of it comes down |
To me, a lot of it comes down to leadership. Rumors were that Peters had issues in that area. I know "All or nothing" was edited, but it sure seemed that a decent chunk of our issue last year was leadership from the qb spot (especially Speight). |
1 week 3 hours ago | I like the idea of multiple |
I like the idea of multiple reviewers and voting. My tweak would be to have 5 reviewers, after 1 minutre of review, each of which cast a vote based on what percentage likeliehood they think it is that the call on the field was incorrect. Throw out the high and the low (or use some other methodology to limit the impact of one outlier vote) and take the average of the remaining votes. If average is above 80% likely that the call on the field was wrong, the call is overturned. Keep track of the reviewer's votes and any reviewer showing a consistent and significantly bias to keeping or overturning the call (relative to the panel's average) is no longer a reviewer. |

1 week 4 hours ago | But wasn't a least some of |
But wasn't a least some of boxing decline a shift to MMA? I did a little research and from what I read, the belief is that MMA is actually safer, but my guess is that the shift to MMA's from boxing's wasn't related to the relative safety of the participants, but rather the interest of the fans. That being said, maybe safety is more important to football, because of the number of participants it takes relative to boxing. |
1 week 4 hours ago | I like the idea of making end |
I like the idea of making end of the game fouling in basketball more punitive such that it eliminates it as a viable option. The question is how to do that. Maybe give the team that was fouled the choice of taking shots or inbounding the ball with a fresh shot clock. After a certain number of fouls, you get 1 shot and the ball. Another way would be a pre-determined clock run off. The team that was fouled determines whether to run down the clock or not. |
1 week 4 hours ago | Instead of switching every |
Instead of switching every 1/2 inning make it so the same team stays on the field for 2 1/2 innings in a row. So instead of 1. Away team/Home team 2. Away team/Home team
It'd go, 1 Away/Home 2 Home/Away after the seventh inning you go back to the traditional switch every 1/2 inning.
No warmups if team was on the field for the previous 1/2 inning. Would cut down on warm up/transition time. One downside is pitchers could be on the bench for a long time.

1 week 2 days ago | Breaking that down. |
Breaking that down. "Patterson is well ahead of the other two" ie. Patterson >> Peters/McCaffrey spring 2018. "the gap between him and Peters/McCaffrey is about equal to the gap between those two right now and where they were last year." From the first sentence we know: Patterson >> Peters/McCaffrey spring 2018. So "the gap" is being well ahead. Which means Peters/McCaffrey right now are well ahead of where they were last year, ie Peters/McCaffrey 2018 spring >> Peters/McCaffrey last year So putting it all together: Patterson >> Peters/McCaffrey 2018 spring >> Peters/McCaffrey last year It is ambiguous wrt what "last year" means (spring practice 2017 or where they were are the end of the season). Also it is ambiguous on whether there is a gap between Peters and McCaffrey. Since it compares Patterson to both together, from that I infer that Peters and McCaffrey are close. Further it says that McCaffrey is the biggest mover, if you're behind and making the biggest move, you're closing the gap. To me, this doesn't support the notion that you put forth about McCaffrey still being behind of Peters. If anything, it says the opposite. |

1 week 2 days ago | Isn't that nature of college |
Isn't that nature of college football that you'll end up with massive question marks at positions? Your quarterback leaves and you've got young, unproven guys that have to take over. How is Michigan qb situation much more questionable than others who've lost long time starters who monopolized playing time? We've got three real shots all highly recruited. One with experience elsewhere with uncertain eligibility. One RS sophomore with some experience here. One RS freshman. The later two both young enough that it isn't unreasonable to get significant growth. |
