That makes a lot of sense to me. I'd use the former conference championship games as a first round of an 8 team playoff (they might need to get pushed back a week for logistics). 1) Alabama v. 8) Oklahoma, OSU/Wisky, Clemson/PSU and Washington/Michigan would have been more interesting and meaningful than what we actually got.

I'm not a fan of using out of conference games to determine conference champions. Yes they use it in the NFL, but their schedules are set by the league. The one P5/G5 opponent I suppose is a rough stab at some strength of schedule equality, but there is a huge difference between playing Alabama/WMU as compared to Kansas/Buffalo even though both give you a P5/G5 split. And when your choosing opponents you'd create a huge incentive to schedule the weakest teamso possible.

Use some type of system to keep track of the exact position of the camera at a given time including how level it is. I'll bet with that info you could triangulate position.
Doesn't really matter if the refs are going to allow one team's wrs to be tackled with no flags.
While we're fixing things. Use the 4 power 5 conference championship games as the first round of playoffs.
Step 1) If a conference has two division winners that are both in the top 8, they play as normal. (So this year PSU/Wisky and CU/Washington would have played).
So this year, we would have had PSU/Wisky, CU/Washington then Michigan bumps Florida and plays Alabama at the SEC site and OSU bumps VT and plays Clemson at the ACC site.

If Michigan had beaten Iowa and ended 11-1. I don't think we would have gotten in over 12-1 Clemson or 12-1 Washington who both won their conference championship. Doesn't seem any different than ranking 11-2 conference champion PSU above 10-2 M which the committee did despite a convincing head to head win in M's favor.

Well if outplaying a team on the road but losing because of some extenuating circumstance is a criteria, the shouldn't we be in ahead of Ohio?

I think a 11-1 Michigan (win at Iowa) gets left behind. Conference winning 12-1 Clemson and Washington would have gotten in over us. So, in the end the Iowa game didn't really matter if Clemson wins.

What Harbaugh ought to work on is a better approach to working the refs. It should srart with what motivates refs. Theses guys make what 3k a game. Given a lot of them are professional types, that is not a ton of money to be taking abuse from thousands of fans. So they must be in it for the control or because they're altruistic. I'm betting for most it is control. It is not surprising that folks doing something because they like control would react adversely to Harbaugh's antics. To some degree he is who he is, but you'd think a guy as competitive and smart as Harbaugh would want to gain a possible advantage by better handling of refs.

Given we wouldn't play Alabama until new years eve and they would find out who they play on Dec 4, I really don't think there is much of a strategic advantage in us prepping for the while they are distracted with Florida. They'll have plenty of time to prepare. Further, with the size of Saban's staff and budget and the relative inconsequence of the Florida game, I'll bet he already has groups of people breaking down film on all of the most likely playoff teams.
To the extent our resources are limited, it seems to me the best use of time would be trying to figure out how to improve our run game regardless of opponent.

Is it really in Michigan's best interest for PSU to win? Sure we beat them handly head to head, but hasn't the CFP committee said they put little or no weight on margin of victory?
If Wisky wins
If PSU wins
Summary. PSU's best win is significantly better than Wisky's and they would have 2 very good (top 12 ish) wins Wisky would have 1 (M 3). PSU's worse loss is significantly worse than Wisky (to #25 v. #5.) Given they beat OSU head to head, it is harder to leave PSU out while taking OSU. Barry Alvarez's participation on the committee is a Wisky wild card.
|5 days 21 hours ago||If PSU wins they should be||
If PSU wins they should be the first team out of the B1G. Beat OSU head to head and won B1G championship. I don't see it the same way for Wisky since they lost to OSU head to head on their home field.
I read a lot how it is better for Michigan if PSU wins because of how we beat them, but OSU goes before us and I don't think you can take OSU and leave behind a conference championship PSU. So it seems like Wisky winning is the better outcome. Barry Alverez's involvement with the CFP being a counter indicator.

|6 days 7 hours ago||This issue is fairly easily||
This issue is fairly easily addressed going forward with transparency. After a game teams do more than submit tape, they actually get to rate individual ref performance. Specifics of each team's rating and the league's "independent" rating are all made public. For upcoming games, use a jury selction process with the league submitting a pool of refs to work each position. Teams can make arguments against any refs "for cause" (like bad previous ratings or being from the other school's home state...) and can exclude a limited number of refs preemptively. The league decides whether any "for cause" arguments are valid if there aren't any objective criteria (like any average rating below x). Selection for most important games is done first.

The problem with using a "billion extant " is there is not one go to thread and they will all soon be pushed off the front page. Why not have a snowflakes "diary" to discuss refs? That way there are not incessant threads, but the topic could still be discussed. It seems like it is still an emerging story. Folks that are tired of this "whining" can simply avoid that diary.
BTW I agree with the other comments about it seemingly being inconsistent to allow inane drinking, pos-bang/neg-bang ... threads, but squashing a topic that is timely and relevant. Brian may indeed be a Delaney slacky. Going by voting alone on Brian's post it is about 50/50.
