We were the #2 see last year, and lost to a team from the MAC. Sure the BIG is a tough conference, but that doesn't guarantee wins against lower ranked teams. I completely agree about size, but I think its more than that, its the lack of physicality and defense. All season we kept hearing how we avaraged the fewest amount of fouls, like that was a good thing. We had fewer fouls because we were not aggressive defensively. Fundementaly, our defense has GERG level flaws fundementally, and we won that way for a while because we could outscore other teams. Unfortunately Stauskas, GRIII and Hardaway Jr. can't score against teams that play good defense, and we come up short in these critical games.

Any criticism should be directed at the coaching staff, not the players. Belein recruited them, and plays them. He knows their strenghts and limitations, and should coach acordingly. If Stuaksas can't play defense, and we need a defensive stop, put someone else in!

Grew up in West Michigan, but moved to Oakland 7 years ago. Can't watch the Lions out here, though you can't really watch the Raiders either with all the blackouts.

Well I had to pick between the Lions and the Raiders, so it was a really hard choice.

This, along with the Lionesque performance of the Raiders this year is really making it hard for me to be a Raider fan. I can't root for Leinart or Pryor under any circumstances.

I'm still not 100% sure about this team. #2 rankings don't mean a hell of a lot in basketball, especially as we have yet to begin play in the BIG. I'm happy about the good start the team's had, but I also worry about giving up big leads in several games. I am anxious about how the Januar 13th - Feb 5th schedule, where we play @ # 7 Ohio, @ #13 Minn @ #10 Illinois @ #6 Indiana and back home against Ohio. This is a brutal schedule by any measure, and I will be critical in how our season will go. its great to see our team doing well, but its way too early to say we've proven everyone wrong.

Arizona is ranked 118th in total defense this year, last year they were 108th, so this argument doesn't hold up.  The no athtletes excuse was played out by Rich Rod several years ago, especially when Hoke and Matisson came on board and turned it around in 1 season. 

I'm not sure the New Mexico Bowl really counts as a bowl game, other than by technicality. I guess that's what having the 118th ranked defense can get you in the PAC.

I give you props for sticking with your guns on Rich Rod, I haven't seen you post in a while, thought maybe you had taken your talents to [South] Arizona blogs. Rich Rod's start at Arizona has been pretty impressive, I guess you can win in the pac 12 with the #103 scoring defense. Unfortunately that didn't work for him at Michigan, and regardless of his record, he was not a good fit here. Its time you move on, spend some time reflecting on whether you are a Michigan fan or a Rich Rod fan, then post on the appropriate message board.

Brink isn't a freshman though, he is a redshirt sophmore, so really he is in the same class as BWC. I do worry about him only weighing 264 lbs, thats too skinny for a DT.

I'm also hoping we can retire the panic button, Will Heininger says "even somebody that doesn't watch football will be able to notice that our defense is better this year" and I have no doubt that it will be.
