Kickers are weird and David is a freshman. Let's give him some time and walk-on kickers doing well has been seen before. Let's worry about it when the season starts.

One minor quibble: Fresno St. is REALLY bad and are nowhere near what they have been in the past. Utah will cruise.
Which is a shame as I really like Tim DeRuyter as a coach

Utah had a lot of turmoil in the offseason and lost a lot of coaching acumen that they did not necessarily replace.
The strength of Utah's offense, the running game, plays right into the strength of Michigan's defense.
Their D-Line is still scary but I have a feeling Rudock's ability to be efficient and checkdown may cause them to back off in a way they didn't have to last year.

I think he maybe learned his lesson on that one. They adore him at Arizona and the expectations there are reasonable. What would he gain from going to one of the other open jobs?

A reporter is walking through a neighborhood when he sees a pit bull jump it's fence and starts attacking a boy playing in the street. Before the reporter can do anything, another boy runs up with a branch and attacks the pit bull, getting it away from his friend and making it run back to the yard it had jumped out of.
Breathless, the Report runs up the boy saying, "That was incredible, I'd like to write a story on you and as a headline I'm thinking "Brave Wolverine helps friend in trouble."
The boy looks at him and says, "The article is fine but I'm not a Wolverine." "Fine." The reporter says, "How about, Incredible Spartan leaps to save friend." "That's nice." said the boy, "But I'm not a Spartan either. My family is from Ohio and we are all about Ohio St. Go Buckeyes!"
"Oh, in that case." Says the reporter, "I have the perfect headline" and walks away.
The next day the paper comes out reading,
"Crazed redneck attacks beloved family pet."

Early fall there is still like walking on the surface of the sun
Vegas is a town where no-one actually lives with the intent of settling down.
Not sure what part of that say successful mid-major.

Sure thing, it's coachspeak and it's still fall camp and they have a large group of large men they need to keep motivated. I wouldn't read anything into this at all.

They've tried the big-time coach from a lower college division(Bobby Hauck from Montana), they've tried the successful college coordinator(Mike Sanford from Utah), they've stolen the coach from the in-state rival(Jeff Horton from Nevada-Reno) and they've tried the retread(John Robinson). In each case they gave coaches time and the results were never great, so why the hell not try a Successful high school coach? It's about all they have left. Reality is that it's a no school with no fan base, no tradition, a recruiting area with a ton of competition, and no instituional support, the only time it was ever any fun was when Randall Cunningham was there and that was a long time ago. Why anyone would coach there is a mystery.
It's just a crappy situation for any coach, and frankly I think they'd be better off at I-AA or dropping football altogether, but it's tough to do when the other in-state school(Nevada) has decent success and they figure why not us? Idaho-Boise St. have a similar dynamic, so while Idaho would be much better off in I-AA, they just can't bring themselves to do it.

Different divisions can be worked out, similar to what UCLA/USC have done with Stanford and Cal. Not prioritizing Ohio St./Michigan as a yearly game is different.
|6 days 2 hours ago||Nebraska-Oklahoma in the||
Nebraska-Oklahoma in the context I was talking about was because the Big 8 became the Big 12 and they put the teams in separate divisions and didn't guarantee they would play every year. So by the time Nebraska came here, it wasn't that big of a deal to lose the game. That's probably the best historical parallel to what the impact of this decision would have been.

Former coach of Bishop Gorman(power high school based in Las Vegas) that UNLV hired in a desperate attempt to find a competent coach.
I'm interested to see how all of this ends up working out for them.
|6 days 3 hours ago||Man, I don't know about this.||
Man, I don't know about this. I need to read this in the book to see if it's true as it's almost too stupid to be believed. Then again, we've seen games like Nebraska-Oklahoma, Texas-Texas A&M, Kansas-Mizzou all get sacrificed to the conference realignment gods by people making similarly driven decisions, so I guess I can believe Brandon would, indeed, be that fucking stupid.

I grew up in Northeastern Nevada and have made that drive more times than I can count. The Salt Flats are SUPER flat and extremely boring, once you get to SLC itself, things get more interesting, nut there's about 100-120 miles of mountains way off in the distance.
