what was it? i remember reading some of the profiles around the new year when this last came up (i think) and i found them interesting but time didn't allow me to go through many of them. i will take the time to hit some of the links above this to check some more of them out. EDIT: it occurs too that we should have a tailgate party at one of the games. i vote for a late season game since my oldest sons will be playing ball through october. in the words of john belushi, 'who's with me? let's do it.....!' |

or something like that. biggest guy i ever played with was 6'10" and 395 - not fat either. hadn't played enough football in his younger life to be able to compete with that type of body but he was very nimble for a guy that size. |

at our house. some of you forget the big man before that, ed muransky. |

at the rose bowl about 20 yrs ago. he was an underclassman then and not yet starting. our seats were on the 40 but down about 15 rows from the field and i remember thinking he was one tall football player - way tall. what are the stats on his son? |

but i've seen him play and i just don't think he's a 4 star. good, but not great. great family too, friends with them, but still not a 4 star. also, his grandfather went to ND, but i doubt he wanted to go to purple face land. |

to locate ariz 'east' of okla, but he has insight into softball, that's for sure. |

how open their X receiver was? if we don't take miller down that is an easy lay-out to a streaking X. incidentally, miller might not be pretty or polished, and i wouldn't expect him to do much in the pros, but he is still an excellent dual-threat college QB. i think devin is better, but don't dis that miller kid as he has talent. |

look on the bright side of things. send the kids to grandma and grandpa's house and get a bottle of bubbly - celebrate the double day! here i'll be getting kids up for barn chores, then church, then the girls will make a sick brunch for us all. for dinner there will be singing, some homemade goodies, and all of the children will undoubtedly come in waves with little gifts like drawings, airplanes, cards and a 'grown up' gift or two. might buy myself a handheld gps today since mine died last fall after a decade+ of good service. happy father's day to all the mgodads. it is a blessed thing. and don't forget to honor your own dads - it will go well with you.

about that. never heard from seth, who i assume is a mod. can update article too, since the wolverines went on their end-of-season tear to gain respectability and i can ask one of the players about news re: going pro, what caused the team to finally get it in gear, etc. |
| 3 days 5 hours ago | Hockey Stat Question |
looking at espn's box score, they always list giveaways and takeaways. they don't match up i.e. boston didn't have 9 giveaways and chicago 9 takeaways, and this was not a stat that they ever kept when i played (yes, that was after the glaciers receded but before the invention of electricity). |

first suburban, a 3/4 ton '77 4x4. it was dark blue and i painted the wings on the hood and stripes all the way back to the tail gate when we went to the rose bowl in '86 or '87 (getting long enough that i don't remember exactly). not nearly as cool as a citation, but it was all i had back in the day. |

room yesterday, and we have just broken up from our usual late dinner which also usually includes singing, but now with the piano. very nice. ever-impressed with oldest daughter who can play songs she has only heard a couple of times, no sheet music, etc. |

that is some very cool stuff. shame that some of the older heroes like chappius and harmon are fading from the M-consiousness. |

one before. very nice. can tell by the background it's in the process of landing somewhere in socal. |

on butterfield. this information and his avatar mug shot get in the wrong hands, and it could be big trouble for a fellow mgoblogger. indeed, the NSA may already be tracking him... |

good for the huskers. and yeah, no tears over ohio not getting him, but props to the coach who the kid spoke so highly about. |

and i was telling my buddies about it back then. thats what made his record setting year that much more remarkable - it was like a toad crossing the I-75 at rush hour. somehow he made it... |
| 4 days 5 hours ago | Todd Jones II |
remember jones when he was in the last couple years of his career? he'd still get the save, but it was always with two guys on and someone making a great play to save his bacon. i called him 'calamity jones' at the time. well, we now have 'calamity valverde'. he looks like he might get out of this one okay, but two games in a row he gives up 2 dingers/inning, and then the abomination two days ago in k.c. u-g-l-y! |

but my wife took a fly-fishing class before we got married since we went fly-fishing, hunting, skiing and white-water rafting on our honeymoon. she is the greatest. |

thank you for sharing and bless that young man. |
| 6 days 5 hours ago | Two Years Ago |
dad came to visit with his wife. first i got him out of a ticket for going 50 in a 25, that is a funny story to be told over a beer. that was my gift to him. but the more important thing was that i sat him on the couch and basically interviewed him about his life in front of my wife and all of our children. i had heard the stories many times but i always loved them, and i wanted him to speak into the lives of my children as most of them were old enough to start remembering these stories. so i asked him about the severe poverty of his youth, both parents dying, the depression, shoveling coal in the rich people's houses in grand rapids, world war II, boot camp and flight school, being a P-51 pilot, meeting mom, business, etc. a great talk that i happened to film quietly with my itouch set on my knee. despite being 86 and in phenomonal health, nobody but God knew that 2 months later he'd be gone. so grateful for having recorded that talk. honor your father and it will go well with you, and you will live long in the land. that's my father's day advice. |

as has been and is played by the members of this household, the girl members are required to know the basics of defensive and offensive alignments, be able to name all positions on the field, and without any prompting have picked the patriots as their favorite team since tom brady is the QB and the 'patriots' fits with their love of country. i haven't enmeshed them into the intracacies of recruiting, but they do love the games when we go and/or watch them on t.v. (football season being the only time the t.v. is activated).
cool story bro. take care of those wonderful daugthers. |
| 6 days 15 hours ago | I Chose Michigan |
and have never, ever regretted it. i did have two additional considerations though: my mother had died when i had just started high school and being close to home (e. detroit) was a significant consideration. my father was alone at that time and he was not a great bachelor. also, hockey was my sport and as much as i loved coach cleary (harvard's coach, member of original 1960 mircale on ice olympic team), i wanted to play in yost. i should add that i was a 4th gen michigan attendee (with two nieces in years hence as 5th gen), so my blood was quite maize and blue already. your other consideration was already mentioned above - i would question the wisdom of sending a 16 yr old 14 hours away to college. daughters are more precious than gold, and you will want to think long and hard about sending your 'gold' away, unprotected. no matter what, very cool that your daughter is such a star. take good care of her. |

and if you couldn't find stuff to do in and around malibu, you weren't looking hard enough. and you are forgetting the students themselves, who tended to be on the more beautiful side (and some wealthy ones) of the spectrum, to put it mildly. great place to go to school. |
