and trips are extraordinarily rare. same with sheep. not so with goats.
|1 day 15 hours ago||No Wal-Mart in 1894||
the year that great grandmother was the first woman to graduate from michigan. so important was she that i named our present bird-dog after her (maude). as an aside, we hunted the grouse opener this morning before work. i was 4th gen, one of my brothers has 2 daughters who are the 5th gen. don't know if any of my children will attend, but they will all undoubtedly be life-long fans. who could call them wal-mart fans?
bottom line: if you come by it honestly and aren't just a fair-weather fan, bless your maize and blue heart for pulling for michigan!

from when they are acting like colostomy bags for a given school. i would also tease all my yooper buddies who were G.B. packer fans if they rooted for red china, too. meaning, they didn't live in wisconsin but rooted for the pack, they might as well root for the commies when they played the USA in anything too.

chow down if NW gets to 6 wins? i realize that's about as likely one of our cows having triplets, but at least it would be something to aim for.

when you have a 4 hour drive home and barn chores and clean up for all the kids on sunday to do when you do get home, you come back and tell us all about staying to the bitter end of a blowout.

2. michigan football - you all know why on that one
3. grouse opener on monday.
4. bow season only 3 weeks away.
fridays in the fall are the best. go blue, go tigers.

i installed ours within weeks of buying our home. hooked up to two 500 gallon pigs of propane. has come in handy more times than i can count out here in the boonies.
congrats on working through the tough week. lots of people probably very glad you were slugging it out getting them power.

(sorry for the cool story bro moment)
|1 week 1 day ago||Practice Jerseys||
when i was playing at mich back in the 80's, our practice jerseys were single color, no numbers or logos of any kind. we had 4 colors (if i remember correctly) that were used, and each of us was assigned one color - it'd be hanging in our locker at yost. kids these days.....
|1 week 2 days ago||Press We Ran||
was contact at the line of scrimmage and the entire route until/unless the ball was in the air. to use an old saying, 'i want to know what flavor gum their receivers are chewing'. the decision that needs to be made is whether you cover 'outside in' and let the receiver have the slant, or if you press from 'inside out', meaning you force the receiver to take a outside route toward the sideline.
difficulty comes with slot receivers, but if your LB's are dropping back they are hopefully taking away the slant/underneath throws to the slot guys.
|1 week 2 days ago||History Lesson||
the NE patriots, with our beloved tom brady as their quaterback, lost their opener in 2003 by the score of 31-0.
anyone remember who won the super bowl that year (2/1/2004)? brady and the patriots beat carolina 32-29.
so while last night was dismal, and i disagree with OP that turnovers were the story (they certainly didn't help though), let a team grow, learn, hopefully beat some medicore competition and they just might get respectable this year. maybe.

i think we'll be right about 43. maybe 44. throw the ushers and concession folks in there and we go way over 200.
|1 week 4 days ago||Children Are A Blessing||
and debt is a curse, yet our culture today applies for debt and seeks to avoid children at all costs. when you have your own kids, this will make more sense. good luck.
|1 week 4 days ago||Congrats - Sports Never Too Early||
make it fun. make it a big deal when michigan is playing. sing the fight song while feeding her. have more children (c.f. - my mgoname) and get them involved. it works great. all of our kids love michigan. i remember one of the boys when he was 2 1/2 yrs old and had put his two big teeth out by walking into a piano with a parachute over his head. he was singing the victors in the dentist chair while the dentist was taking out what was left of those two teeth.
and this is a way better than my twins born last night....you know, in the barn, with the other cows, sheep, goats, chickens, etc.
|1 week 5 days ago||Goose Bumps||
watching some of those. great highlights.
crush the fighting chickens!
|1 week 5 days ago||We Had Twins Last Night||
but not those type of twins, livestock type of twins instead. all hands in the barn helping with the birth, clean up, and getting both on to the mama's teets to nurse. late season birth but a blessing to a farmer nevertheless. added bonus: we never have to give the kids the 'birds and the bees' talk - they get it, they live it, they are junior veterinarians almost. anyway, mama and twins doing great and moved to their own private stall.
footbal tonight and tomorrow for the oldest sons.
michigan game after that. here on the farm we slaughter chickens. by the hundreds. here's to michigan farming some chickens (metaphorically) tomorrow. go blue!

you'd be working on power outages. lots of lightning the last 2 days. had my team have to run off the field with the clouds that came at the end of last nights practice. white streaks raining down from the sky everywhere.

|2 weeks 2 hours ago||Vegas Couldn't Care Less||
about wanting the betting man to think anything other than to bet the game. their sole goal is to have an equal amount of money bet on each proposition, to wit: the same amount of money bet for oregon and for msu. vegas gets 10% vig on each bet. then they simply hand the one stash of losers' cash to the folks that won, and keep their vig. no risk, just held the money for 6 days and kept the 'commission'.
as to the line, i agree it seems out of whack, but that is probably due to the fact that there are a lot more oregon fans going to bet $ in vegas than sparty fans. thus, to draw an equal amount of $ bet they had to tilt the line somewhat. i too think i'd bet the mortgage on sparty if it was purely a business deal. i will still kind of pull for them to win, but that's hard.

|2 weeks 16 hours ago||Kudos For the Lemon Chaw||
the manner of your eating of the second 1/2 of the lemon is called 'montana red dog', and comes from the habit we had in college of taking our dip (chewing tobacco) without using hands. simply opening up the tin and, in effect, biting the tobacco and packing it neatly in one fell swoop. took some practice, especially if you had 4 of anything to drink. fortuntately it's been 30 years since i dipped - a habit left in college.
fyi, the montana red dog comes courtesy of and in honor of one of our college buddies from montana. so crazy was bakes that he once came face to face with a treed mountain lion on a hunt, on purpose. but that's a story over a few beers. we'll plan that mgobbq for november.

trying to punch the cows, you aren't going to like it. and make sure you don't try to punch the bull or the steer - named bullwinkle and rocky - as they are pretty fiesty.
absolutely awesome photo of tom harmon and d. gardner. wonderful.
and you really do need to take in a lemon. maybe you can swap it in place of a lime and drink a bottle of to-kill-ya while you're at it.
