I was more curious about the 'why' that drives the trend, assuming adequate athleticism and arms that are long enough to do the job. |

to be so tall? if you have a 6' 3" guy that is quick and strong, and assuming his arms aren't short, what is the magic of the LT being 6' 7"? i played with guys of both sizes, and have to tell you my favorite LT linemate, who played for the cowboys before coming to us, was a shade under 6' 5" and a stud. |

as cooks, waiters thing. enjoyed it and they did a great job. oldest even prepared a legit menu for us to order from with a few choices of entrees and desserts. tonight will cook steaks for mama and i, the kids get burgers. not to worry, they come from our cows, raised on our hay, non-gmo corn, aged just like i want and butchered up by me and the oldest sons so they are very enjoyable and excellent nutrition. fire going in the wood stove as it is still snowing up here in northern michigan. most has melted, but yesterday and this morning we were completely blizzard covered white out conditions off and on. |

even if he gets convicted of the residential burglary (PC 459) will still get some jail time and probation, not prison. this offense is serious and as others have commented, really could have ended up with someone dying. if people are that interested i can try to gather more details. my old stomping grounds, willing to bet somebody on my old football team is the one who ran him down. we had a couple of shut-down corners ourselves, guys who did play pro before going into law enforcement. and i'll bet $ right now drugs had something to do with it - either t. young was high, or the house he wanted into was thought to be holding them, but drugs are in there somewhere. |

of all time. no question. nobody could skate, score, and fight like gordie. he and my dad were friends and had been since the 50's. when i was a kid he gave me a nickname that never went away - redneck. he said that was because when i was on the ice the other team was scoring so much the red goal light was giving me a sunburn. you don't shake that nickname when it comes from a living legend. fortunately nobody on michigan's team knew that one and i wasn't about to tell them. years later, when tiger stadium had it's last game in sept of '99, he stopped by to say hello to us all. that was the last time i saw him, though my father and he were buddies til dad died 2 years ago.

as a lad i remember listening to ufer announce one of the mich v. ohio games and the 'horseshoe' (ohio's stadium) sat 84,000 at the time. the quote i remember in that ultra-gravel voice of ufers was: "there's 84,000 screaming fans here today folks. 10,000 maize and blue supporters, and 74,000 truck drivers!" what year was it, and for the life of me, was that on a regional telecast, or was it on radio?

is wrong. bill sr. is probably the nicest (incompetent) owner in the league. he kept chuck schmidt on as GM for years because chuck saved him from his alcoholism. chuck wasn't such a great GM, as all of us lions fans know. ralph wilson (nickname: hack) was never going to be majority owner of the lions - he owned the bills. and bill jr. is, to be diplomatic about it, 'distracted' due to other priorities in life. |

even the guy with no kids at the top. enjoyable stories, all of them. random comments: i was 4th gen Univ of Mich, 2 nieces are 5th gen. dad went to Mich before WWII, finished at MSU after. first college game i saw was at MSU. i played hockey (not enough) for mich and have been a football season holder since '80. missed most games after graduation til came home from out west in '04. ann arbor is 4 hrs south. would take the various children to see my dad in e. detroit and get special grandfather time on friday and then sat a.m. did my best to 'interview' my dad about his life for the kids to hear - his WWII P-51 days, meeting mom, his business stories, all of it. he died 8/11, but not before all my kids got a few of those special weekend. then on the saturdays after more time with dad, would take child to football game and special father son/daughter day, then back up north. now we have lots more kids so i have to trade for 4 seats/game. 5 boys, 2 girls, all love football. the oldest boys play now, the youngest are waiting, desperate to start. all are mich fans as you can imagine. oldest daugther asked last night if maybe i could take her to a b-ball game. that answer is a 'yes'. our children don't need our money or 'stuff' we could buy them, they need our time and guidance doing educational and fun stuff, or just hanging out together. michigan sports are a great way to do that. go blue to all of you. |

at the whole second half. McGary got called for ticky--tack nonsense, but was no-called when guys grabbed his face. burke got hammered at the top of the key when he was starting to drive the lane with around 3 1/2 minutes left and that was a no call, turnover to the bad guys. we also had to call our last or next-to-last time out when morgan got the ball on the baseline with about 2 minutes left and with his feet planted at the baseline, got hit so hard by 2 'cuse guys that al borges probably wants to recruit the two orangeman for the O-line. lots of other calls like that. they are focusing on the two calls that didn't go their way, thats all. tell them to take a longer look and they'll realize that as variable as the calls were, in the end 'cuse got it's share of calls. |

and i think is a subtle but favorable advantage for us. not only is belein's quite high, but on average, i think the team has a very high hoops IQ and that will be a difference for us. contrast that with, say, IU's team which has some great athletes but just don't/didn't strike me as able to adapt like our kids can and thats why they lost. i have enjoyed the above commentary by the rest of you, should be a great game and am looking forward to it. go blue. |

and i stand corrected. it was oldest daughter's team that lost in double OT just a couple of weeks ago in the state championship. one other tidbit about that weekend was that besides being with my oldest brother, my best buddy was with us and he was an illinois guy, born and bred. he took the loss well and pulled for us vs. seton hall. we got interviewed by the seattle t.v. stations while we were getting lit before the championship game at sneakers bar across from the kingdome and taking an informal survey of all patrons about who would win, how many three pointers would seton hall's ace (andrew gage from austrailia, if my failing memory serves me right), who would be MVP, etc. |

in the series (went with my brothers to comerica, that was nice) i can't get the picture out of my mind from game 3 where the tigers looked like they couldn't be beaten fast enough. they looked like it was a pain to be at the park in the cold and their at-bats were pathetic. we even had cabrera come up with the bases load, ala mighty casey, and no runs to show for it. assuming the tigers play well this year, i'll probably get more into it as the year goes on but it'll take a while to get the taste of that nasty world series performance out of my mouth. |

| 7 weeks 6 days ago | 2 Big Hits |
1. Playing the windsor spitfires in their stadium (1979) and i hustled back to break up a near break-away. i got there, but we all went sliding into the net and that was back in the days when the nets were pegged on big pegs. the next i remember was the trainer leaning over me and i'm stuffed way in back of the net and he's asking me if i'm okay. i remember my dad waking me up every hour that night - that was the 'protocol' for concussions back then. 2, Playing LAPD in football, i'm the tight end. our quarterback throws what we commonly called a 'medicine ball' and though i catch it, i pay the price. i am hit by LA's safety who had played for the new orleans saints the season before. we go to the ground and he says to me, 'shit! you caught the ball. nice catch!'. i am barely able to breath at this point and say 'nice hit' and run off the field. TV cameras follow me and the announcers comment on the catch. meanwhile my teammates are asking if i'm okay and i'm telling them to not f-ing touch me, let me breath. |

if he recruited based on race then he was racist which is defined as making decision based on race. i'm not saying he never did a good thing or that some kids didn't benefit wonderfully by being in his program. i'm only saying he's a racist and he would tell you the same. i'm colorblind and much like MLK, i'm pretty sure that's not a 'petty concept' or 'narrow minded' understanding of racism. |
| 8 weeks 1 day ago | Look at His Players |
over the years and note their race. he had NO caucasians on his team for years. not even as bench warmers and he didn't even bother to recruit white kids for years. i don't think he had a single white kid on scholarship since the '80's (he retired around 2000). allen iverson, one of his most prized recruits prior to going to g-town was a convicted felon for....starting a race riot in a bowling alley. and then there is the banner thompson hung in '75 with the N word on it. |

to be blessed with children, regardless of their color. read the saraceno article and it fails to address thompson's express and outspoken racism. his time at G-town coincides with my time to pay attention to such things. i'm not saying he's the devil, just a racist who wraps his racism in terms that are acceptable to some, not to me. and never forget how he screwed up the olympic team (including his racist picks) when he had more talent available than anyone in the galaxy. |

| 8 weeks 5 days ago | MJ is legal in California |
they sell it in shops and you can have it delivered like dominos pizza and pick the type you want. MJ is legal in Mexico for all intents and purposes, there is no law there and if you're 'caught' you can give the cop a bribe (it's called 'mordido' in spanish) and you can walk with your weed. i agree i'm not too bright, but i do have a least a modicum of wisdom and far more experience on these topics than you, so you may want to refrain from the personal attacks - folks on this blog tend to be pretty good to one another and you might want to adopt that e-demeanor. otherwise they'll send you to bolivia. i'm not sure if weed is legal in bolivia. |
| 8 weeks 5 days ago | Not Kidding |
lived it. ran a covert gang task force in cal for years before i (gratefully) came home to mich. it is legal in california and those things still happen all the time. it is basically legal in mexico and it is thunderdome down there and they are in the process of losing their country. if it were proper i could post some nice crime scene photos. you'd love them. so innocent, especially the torture ones where the organs are hanging out of the body. blow torches leave very tell-tale marks too, unless of course the bod(ies) have been in the desert for a while, then they all turn black and start to liquify. dope is 'safe' in, say, brighton or ann arbor, but dope is a killer. but it will make you smart and ambitious, so there's a saving grace. |
| 8 weeks 5 days ago | Seems Innocent |
until your investigator calls you out to look at a couple of dudes he found in a car, handcuffed and with their heads cut off. you know, innocent dope mules, but maybe the cost is too much? it's worse in the desert, too. they stink to high heaven. or when the angels blow torched a guy to death, now that was definitely some innocent fun. i dunno, maybe we can't handle that much fun. i don't believe simple possession should be much penalized, nor should a mere pound or two, but make no mistake, it's not an 'innocent' crime. |
| 9 weeks 16 hours ago | GERG was not the problem |
he got to ann arbor with only 28 scholarship athletes on his side of the ball and rich rod demanding that he run that idiotic 3-3-5. even when rich rod got his old defensive coordinator back this past year in arizona, the arizona d stunk too. as for michigan's hoops defense, they can't block out under the basket to save their lives. i think they'd benefit from some time with the wrestling coach to start to understand leverage with hips. or maybe the O-line coach. either way they are terrible working the glass. |

humor and grace in virtually all of them. I never say a word when we win, not a peep. if we lose i might say something like 'nice game'. have one friend who's a sparty and a good egg, complimented him on the game 3 weeks ago when sparty handed us our heads in EL and he was gracious about it too. not a couch burner, apparently uncommon? work with some ND folks who used be very proud of their football team too, and they'd leave the front page of the sport section out when they won (an old one). i think it was in '06 that we sodomized them by about 35 (and again in 07, 08,...) and i didn't say a peep. that old sport section they used to be proud of went away and not a word beyond 'nice game' has been said since. |

harvard for hockey. mom had died, and dad and i had lived alone for a few years with my older siblings out of the house. ultimately decided that i'd rather be 45 min from home than 14 hrs from home. i must admit that i always watched out for harvard though after the visit dad and i had there in the fall of '79. harvard's coach cleary had played on the original 'miracle on ice' U.S. olympic team of 1960 and was a great guy. i still remember him showing us the brand new hockey stadium that they were nearly finished with - so new that the crimson carpet in the locker room had been laid days before our visit and there wasn't a stitch of hockey equip in the locker room yet. 2 quick comments: 1. even if i had gone east for school i'd have always been a michigan fan. one of my brothers and i were the 4th generation of our family to graduate from mich, two of his daughters the 5th generation 2. undoubtedly life would've turned out radically different if i hadn't gone to michigan, but i can't imagine how it could possibly ever be better. without question i have no regrets about the decision. go blue. |

at this point, but i couldn't resist: gordie howe (uncle gordie) is the greatest of all time. a gordie howe hat trick was a goal, an assist, and a fight. much as i love gretzky and knew him slightly when i lived in L.A., he could never have competed in the 46-78 era that gordie played in the bigs. and 'le rouge, le blanc, et le bleu' (red, white and blue) are a dynasty like no other. you have to have played up there to get it. been to yankee stadium and can appreciate the yanks and their excellence as well, but the canadiens without question deserve their place as a dynasty. as for dr. buss, met him in the early 90's at a laker game, surrounded by hotties that were decades younger than him. while we can all make fun of his escapades, in reality i thought it was a little sad that he was spending time with bimbos (pretty ones, no doubt) but not his peers. seems like that would be an empty existence after a few go-rounds. may he test in peace. |

I think they are recommending something like 32 in the first 3 months, a number of which will have no possible use to the child (if ever) for many years to come such as Hep A and various STD vaccines. for those that wrote strong words in complete denial of the dangers of vaccines, please try to overcome your emotional response and open your eyes. the evidence is everywhere if you seek it - i had a doctor/parent in my office just last month who described her agonizing journey after her fully-verbal 2 1/2 yr old son was lost to the world after a 3 vaccine cocktail. she has spent years seeking treatment for the lad to try to bring him back. one of our own children had a sever vaccine injury. these stories are legion. still others are made using cells from aborted fetuses which may coincide to the OP's practices. study the science and contents of vaccines - many have live virus and/or mercury in them. highly toxic substances given to children cause damage, period. the bottom line is this: make your own decison for your children, don't let anyone (including your ped) push vaccines on your family, study the science and delay the shots and spread them out as far as you are comfortable doing. it's harder to think for yourself and people call you names like this thread has proven, but the life you save just might be that wonderful little wolverine you are expecting. |
