Good for him. He should have…

Good for him. He should have no problem finding his next job.

I'm not saying someone…

I'm not saying someone should register on StubHub as Ryan Day, attend a bunch of Big Ten games with their phone out the entire game recording the sideline, email the video to a random OSU staffer, and then leak that to the athletic departments. But that would be something, hypothetically speaking.

The word you're looking for…

Liability? I think the word you're looking for is liable, as in "Jim Harbaugh is liable to take us back to the playoffs for the third time in as many years."

I posit that the most…

I posit that the most harmful cosmic ray was the one that struck Corum's knee on Nov. 19.

Yeah, but how else would we…

Yeah, but how else would we know the Center is, literally, the center of the offensive line? Ask yourself that before you criticize.

I’m not saying this because…

I’m not saying this because I have a strong allegiance to Alabama, but I know the university well. I’ve lectured there.

Way to prove his point, Paul.

I took it to mean Kelly…

I took it to mean Kelly offered him the same position at LSU, which he turned down to stay at ND.

One thing they could do that…

One thing they could do that they've not already done is to allow cloudflare to serve all page requests when the user is not signed in using Cache Everything. It's a simple thing to do, and you would typically do it using cookies to identify logged in users. They're currently serving these from the drupal cache, which is better than the CMS generating content, but worse than cloudflare serving them.

Alright, now we're in the…

Alright, now we're in the weeds.

You seem to think I was defining static vs. dynamic at the site level, and I was not. Netflix is a provider of mostly static content and uses CDNs for most of their content. Indubitably.

Mgoblog is a provider of mostly dynamic content due to the nature of a CMS (Drupal, in this case). The static resources for this site are already on CDNs (cloudflare, google, etc.) and aren't the issue. The issue is the CMS generating the dynamic content at scale crushes the application server(s). Making database hits and generating HTML for almost every request is an expensive process.

There are solutions to this, but they come at a cost, and a CDN is not it.

CDNs are designed for static…

CDNs are designed for static content (all users get exactly the same content), not dynamic content like you'd find when logged in (it shows your username, applies your preferences, etc.). Without going too far into the weeds, dynamic content usually requires hitting the server/database, which has computational/bandwidth costs that are hard to mitigate.

Static content, on the other hand, is incredibly easy to serve at scale with CDNs because you can just serve the same version to all users without checking with the server.

I would generate par2 files

I would generate par2 files with multipar rather than doing checksums. Choose the level of redundancy you feel is appropriate or just size it to fill the free space on the volume. It's probably worth generating enough to cover at least a small amount of corruption. The process is fast, especially with a decent GPU.

The KSP’s Electronic Crimes Unit plumbed the hard drive of Waugh’s computer and found he had attempted to erase some of the images but that they were still there, [Boyd Commonwealth’s Attorney David Justice] said. Investigators also found evidence to indicate there was “no doubt” that Waugh had downloaded the pictures intentionally, he said.

The images were all of boys younger than 16, Justice said.

Per ncaa.com:

http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2012-02-16/march-madness-live-unveiled

The 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship will be available through the following platforms:

• For the second consecutive year, all 67 games will be televised across four television networks in their entirety — TBS, CBS, TNT, and truTV.

• Turner will stream its linear television games online for free on an authenticated basis on the Turner websites (TBS.com, TNT.tv and truTV.com) for consumers who have a cable, satellite or telco subscription that includes these respective Turner networks.  Authenticating this year’s Tournament across the Turner Networks is an extension of the company’s TV Everywhere initiative, which is currently available to more than 75 million households.

• All games airing on CBS will be available for free on CBSSports.com.

NCAA March Madness features include:

• My Channels:  Through My Channels, fans can easily find games using this personalized channel finder. By plugging in their zip code, users can select their TV provider and see their channel lineup for every game on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV.

• The Game Center View:  The Game Center view provides fans with a control center at their fingertips for live in-game stats such as player stats, team leaders, scoring streaks, biggest lead and foul trouble, depending on which device they use – along with a graphic lead tracker — and live social features.

• The Coke Zero NCAA March Madness Social Arena: Extending the conversation beyond the broadcast, Coke Zero NCAA March Madness Social Arena will return as the social water cooler for March Madness conversation. New this year, features will be live across the entire NCAA March Madness suite of products and, for the first time, let fans grab key game moments and share them with friends and family. In addition, fans will be able to view social commentary from other fans and celebrities everywhere, answer live tournament trivia, and cheer for their favorite teams. The Coke Zero NCAA March Madness Social Arena will extend onto Coke Zero’s Facebook page — offering a complete video gallery of all fan-grabbed moments, complete access to specially-aggregated Twitter feeds of all 68 teams, a uniquely-visualized bracket view of the loudest fans, and more.

"We are surprised and

"We are surprised and disappointed with the NCAA's decision," Smith's prepared statement about the penalties begins. He goes on to add, "This decision punishes future students for the actions of others in the past."

I was not aware that previous NCAA penalties only punished the involved individuals. . .  It's amazing how out of touch with reality they are.

I don't think OSU has more

I don't think OSU has more than a 10% chance of jumping Bama.  The only reason we didn't get a rematch in 2006 is because voters knew that they had two alternatives in Florida and USC that could beat OSU.  Alabama is way ahead on the computers and I doubt enough voters think OSU can beat LSU.  In '06, it also didn't help that Ohio is the last game of the year.

“Rodriguez’s staff uses some

“Rodriguez’s staff uses some of the foulest, most degrading language imaginable. I know coaches curse, and I’m no prude, but this goes way beyond a few dirty words. He belittles the players. This is a big part of why offensive lineman Justin Boren left the team. He felt his dignity was at stake.”

To write everything he wrote as a journalist knowing that it's complete fiction means you either A) have big brass balls or B) know you can get away with it.  If you don't have enough machismo to brush off Amazon reviews on your book, it's clearly the latter, which says about as much regarding the culture at the FP as it does his character.
