There is no denying that Ondre wants to compete and finish out his time at Michigan. if the coaches have been advised by medical staff that it is highly possible that Ondre suffers another injury that would keep him from completing the season then it is in everyone's best interest to step back, as hard as that may be. Sometimes pressuring for medical reasons is just that and nothing more.

I agree that Brandon is a snake. I also agree that it is good for Brandon to keep Brady around to deflect the heat from himself. However, at some point, Brandon himself has to be evaluated. Annual performance reviews are done at the University of Michigan, and David Brandon is not immune. He has handled many things very poorly and when he is finally measured, he will be found wanting.
As for Steven Ross. The man has already given 300M to the University. How much more do any of you think he is prepared to give? In my opinion, not much. We don't have to worry about Ross, we have to worry about the next "Ross" and many other alums that have the means to be major contributors to this University. This is the University of Michigan, not the University of Ross. The President and Regents have not forgotten that even if the AD has.
|48 weeks 1 day ago||That there is a disconnect||
That there is a disconnect between the AD and his head football coach is clear. Brandon had information that he did not give to his coach. A coach that was going to be addressing the national media. He allowed Brady to flounder and look like an uninformed coach. Although many may say "that's just what he is" it is unfair to pass that judgement when we know that information was withheld from him.
In the interim, I suggest that Brandon was getting information on Shane's concussion report, seeking legal counsel with the University attorneys, speaking/meeting with the Morris family, and doing the new Michigan thing, apologizing. Contrition works (it has decreased lawsuits at the University of Michigan Medical Center). In addition, I am certain he had to present something to the Regents and to the University President.
Dave Brandon wants to win, at any cost. He has fired non-revenue coaches for records that are far better than Brady's. Programs with good student athletes and coaches who have served honorably (Tennis, water polo to name two). Maybe some of the other posters are right, Dave is trying to parlay this into an alumni donation to cover severance costs and then some to boot. Maybe also, the Regents and President have restricted his authority on the matter because they do not want him to be the person looking for Brady's replacement.
Stephen Jay Gould of Harvard University refers to "tragic optimism". "We do usually manage to muddle through, thanks to rationality with an adequate dose of human decency and hard work". Unfortunately, we do not move toward a solution until a good measure of preventable tragedy has already occurred to supr us into action.
|48 weeks 2 days ago||I've been thinking about this||
I've been thinking about this and I have an idea. I am over 50 and have been going to games for 30 years. I will not wear red. I will not wear Green. I will not boycott the game. I support the student athletes, I just do not support the coach at this time.
I would say that for the remaining home games fans continue to show up in support of the players. When the team runs through the banner students always lead the way. Once the players have cleared the banner everyone turns around to show their backs to the coaches and staff running under the banner. We all stop cheering, in fact we don't even boo, just silence.
If enough people did this it would be hard not to notice. Just my 2 cents. Whatever is done, get it going on Twitter so everyone knows well in advance. Show up early just to ignore the coach as he ignored his player.

Personally, I think if they would allow alcohol sales inside the stadium it would increase season ticket sales. Our University President MSC said she would never allow alcohol sales and I believe the incoming President is also against alcohol sales. We allowed sales for the NHL game (you couldn't have a hockey game without beer sales), why can't we do it for football. It would also improve revenues.

|1 year 30 weeks ago||I went to Michigan for||
I went to Michigan for undergrad and grad school. My wife went to Michigan for undergrad and grad school and we just went through admissions with my daughter. She and all but one of her friends got into Michigan. The friend who did not went to Pioneer, played 2 varsity sports, had a 3.5GPA tons of outside volunteer experiences and a 33 ACT. She is now a freshman at MSU.
GPA is nice, but it does depend on which high school you attended. The reason I asked about the AP test scores is because it is somewhat of a measure of both you and the level of education you received/are receiveing at your school. If students from your school are getting 0,1,2 in their AP tests, the level of education is not high. There will always be outliers, but a trend can be seen. There are national rankings of schools and a 4.0 at one school does not equal a 4.0 at another school. Admissions will have a "corrected GPA" based on your school's ranking.
Michigan has a rolling admission so definitely apply early. I know for a fact that they have been refining the acceptance policy over the last year or two and have plans to make it even more difficult in the coming years. Essay is everything if you are on the cusp. If you had high AP test scores I would advise you to include this in your essay. It is easy to understand that you just had a down day on the ACT; it is not a terrible score by any means, but it should be improved if possible. Michigan is also making an effort to increase out-of-state students to maximize tuition differential.
My advice is worth what you paid for it. Good luck.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||I will be honest with you||
I don't think your chances are great. You said you took AP classes. Did you take the AP exams? If so did you get at least 4's? Your ACT score is not high enough. You need to be over 30 for consideration. I have a friend's daughter who is in-state, varsity athlete, AP courses, outside organizations, High GPA but a 28 ACT. Was flatly rejected. No wait list or anything. She also was the first person in her family to attend college. Colleges love that, but it just wasn't enough forher. Michigan is great, but unfortunately it is not for everyone. You can get a quality education at many, many places. If you hold a special place in your heart for Michigan consider coming here for graduate school. More scholarships are available (per number of students) and if you can keep high GPA in undergrad and do well on the GRE your chances are much better.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Lots of positives last night||
There were a lot of positives from last night's game. First, Zach Nagelvoort seems to be cementing his position as the number 1 goalie. He now has a 6-2-1 record and Racine, with a 4-0-1 record is no slouch. We are in good shape with goaltending. CJ Motte played outstanding last night. This is a goalie that is 13-0-2 for the season coming into last night's game.
We have a very young team and sometimes it is difficult to maintain focus. Despite that, we won the great majority of faceoff's in all three zones. It is difficult to have production when you don't win faceoff's. Our speed increased in the 2nd period and it led to a lot of opportunities (shots on goal). Our forechecking was great in the 2nd and defense was outstanding.
Although there was a slight letdown in the third period it was understandable. Ferris really pressed Michigan and put a ton of pressure on our defensemen. Although I would have loved a 1 goal win, it is games like these that the young Wolverines can use for experience when they play Minnesota and in the tournament. They will go far because they have been tested early in the season.

You have to remember that this is Thanksgiving weekend and most students were not on campus. Despite this, the studentbsection was full and despite the fact that the stadium was 25% red! the play on the field kept the away team quiet. We owned this stadium and were it not for a poor decision on the conversion, we would have dropped the number 1 or 2 team in the nation (post Bama loss).

|1 year 42 weeks ago||A||
The most amazing thing about the halftime with MSC is that she has clearly stated that as long as she is president there will never be alcohol sales in the stadium. It seems that she was able to have access to alcohol.
The surprising thing is that the are allowing beer sales for the NHL Classic game at the Big House. Money Talks.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Fire Brandon||
This all started with Brandon. He was the one who wanted to do the year-end review of RR at the end of year 3 despite the common perception that any new coach would have a 4 year honeymoon. It was Brandon who hired Hoke, who in turn, hired Borges, Funk, et al. It was Brandon who instituted GA for the student section so when you look at the stadium and see great areas of empty seats, it is Brandon you can thank.
Despite this, Brandon will ask me for my PSD again to secure my seats for next year. Michigan Football is the crown jewel of Michigan athletics. it generates milions of dollars a year and provides funding for non-revenue sports at the University.
Our team is playing scared. They are the butt of jokes and just look pathetic on national TV for the last two weeks. There are probably 50 running backs in the nation who gain more yards per game than our entire rushing offense! OSU will happily shred us in the Big House and pile on style points to boot. This is nothing but an ugly season.
If I didn't love the program so much I wouldn't renew my tickets. The problem is that I love the program and my seats, I just hate the product that I am buying. As I said, it's all Brandon's fault. Do you think Les Miles would think about an offer to come home to momma?
|1 year 43 weeks ago||Mr. Brandon,||
For the past several years I have paid nearly $10,00.00 per year in PSD fees for my premium club seats. I have been sold a bill of goods by you and the athletic department. Like a sucker, I bought in to the hype on Brady Hoke and his coaching staff. Hook, line, and sinker I took what I was being told about the turn around of the program and I believed. I am unhappy and I will do what you seem to listen to best. I will vote with my feet and with my wallet. I will not be renewing all of my seats. You can sell them to someone else who has more dollars than sense. When the product you are selling no longer sells you will be forced to change something. I believe your supply will quickly outweigh your demand, especially at the prices you are charging for this mediocre product.

Surprised that Compher didn't drop since he has been off ice since his concussion. He is supposed to see his first game action after Thanksgiving. He is a good player and makes others around him better. Tyler Motte's production is down with Compher out. When Compher gets back Motte's goals and assists will increase...same goes for Allen. I went to the Dubuque game to see Downing play but he didn't play that day. In any case, Michigan will still do well with this class from the USHL.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Brandon has already begun to address the problem||
Every ticket is scanned and tracked. The AD know which student ticket was validated for re-sale, which ticket went unused and for which game(s). There continues to be a waiting list to be eligible for tickets. There is an annual $25 fee charged to remain on this list. The University is making money either way. Also, since the tickets were already paid for, the University can't force someone to use their ticket after it has been purchased. They can regulate how it is used (resold) but they are powerless if you chose to wallpaper your bathroom with the unused tickets.
The main issue here is our legacy of having the largest crowd viewing a football game anywhere in america. This is about maintaining the streak of over 100,000 in attendance each home game. With growing apathy from students this is at risk. It is also better for TV viewers (regardless of which network) to see a packed house. As more games are televised, this also affects recruiting. Who wants to go to a school where the students don't even show up to the game?
Brandon needs to trim the student section. Additonally, did you know that sutdents from U of M Dearborn and U of M Flint are eligible to purchase football tickets? Those on the waiting list should come before students at a campus that is not even considered a satellite campus. Now get of my effing lawn.

I own my own business. I have had my personal returns audited twice and my business returns audited once. I guess in reality, my business was audited 3 times since the K-1 from the business was part of the personal return. My only advice is " Buclke Up"
IRS was not easy to work with. Of the three audits over a 5 year period my accountant was overly aggressive on mortagage interest deductions on the first return only. I got hit with the difference and a fairly hefty penalty. Since I had an accountant, I had him take care of things as my representative with the IRS (but then also part of the penalty). There were no findings on subsequent audits.
Since my initial audit I have received so many letters of inquiry that I am sick of the IRS. All the audit did was put me squarely on their radar. As Doug Karsh says "best-a-luck"

Young athletes are all the same. They do what they do because they love it AND if they're good enough they have a chance to get paid to do it for a living. I know Connor personally. I have billetted for USA Hockey and I know all the guys. To the man, they would all like to play pro hockey. The OHL is a legitimate way for them to get a lot of ice time and make the move to the NHL. If there was a system like this for football, you would see guys skipping college like crazy. Connor was an honor student at Pioneer while taking AP classes and not the easier load like some others. He qualifies for admission to U of M with or without athletics. Connor is a quality guy from a great family. When I last talked to him he was very excited about playing for Michigan and couldn't wait. His decision to go to the OHL was only after the draft.
If you've lived with these guys you would see how much time and effort each one puts in. For some, opportunity only comes knocking once. I know this was a terribly difficult decision for him. I love Michigan Hockey but if this is the best thing for Connor, then I support him 100%.

I hope you all know that the same thing is going to happen to Yost. As soon as the season ends they will be doing renovations to the seating. There will be Loge boxes and the current "club seats" will be changed. There will be a PSD for seating.
I am a member of the Victor's Club, I am in the President's club, and I have club seats in football and hockey. I go to games. Many don't, and one can find the club hockey seats mostly vacant despite the fact that they are "sold out". What the University needs to do is to have a way for people to tell them they will not be going to the game and those tickets can be released for re-sale. Since the tickets are "dontated" back to the University for re-sale, we could even get a tax donation out of it for whatever the ticket is sold for.
I would gladly do this rather than putting them on stu hub. I would rather see the box office open an hour before the game to release the tickets for the game for public/student purchase. I think that would be fair. No one will change the fact that those who give the most money will have the most access and best seats. What can change is how to keep those seats from being empty.

In my opinion, this is a problem of a lack of self-scouting. If Mattison watched game film of Michigan from previous MSU games and our first 6 games he would see what was going on and find a way to take advantage of it if he was playing against that offense. I have to assume that our defensive coordinator looks at our offense to see what he would do if he was playing against Michigan. If that was done we could have an offensive scheme, a backup if defensive corrections were made, and a backup for the backup. We have one of the best defensive minds in the sport. Why aren't we using him to pick apart OUR offense? It would only help the team to get better.

I think the idea sounds good, but in reality, the people who are going to tailgate are just going to get there early, set up and not have to worry about where they are going to park. This will appeal to someone who has less time and more money and just wants to show up to what they believe will be a primo spot, grab a beer and head to the game. Takes away from all the pre-game ritual for me. I would never use it. People must use it though, because they have a lot of areas they serve.

I don't know how old you are, but if you're married, you are at least in your later 20's. I would try to park in a neighborhood near stadium and industrial and go to Cubs AC to drink and watch the early games. If you tire of that, you can hit the golf course for some tailgates and it is only a short walk away. Your car is in a nearby neighborhood and an easy getaway after the game. Campus bars can be fun and if you get into town early enough you can get down to campus easily and just walk back to the golf course or Cubs. Cabs are pretty iffy on gamedays, so I wouldn't punt on it.

I don't know if Mott and the Athletic Department will do it again this year, but the best thing I ever did was to make a donation to get the on-field passes for the pre-game. I chose the Iowa game and my daughter and I were on the sidelines. It was more fun than I could have ever imagined and I have a lot of friends who are going to do it this year with me if offered again.
Mott is a great cause and this is a great way to thank folks for their donations.

The economy sucks right now so most people I know are not looking for associates or partners. However, you have the luxury of time. I'm seeing a lot of older docs, DDS and MD that are staying in practice longer only because the market isn't what they thought it would be when they hit their window for retirement. Having said that, in the next few years, as the economy continues to turn around, these guys will be retiring and looking for associates and partners. I would always recommend looking at specializing, but I understand that debt has to be paid off. You have plenty of time right now. Get good grades and try to develop good relationships with your instructors. They hire a lot of the grads.
|4 years 31 weeks ago||I am wondering who did the||
I am wondering who did the root canal. I don't want their name, I am just wondering if your dentist did the root canal or if a root canal specialist (endodontist) did. The reason I ask this is that if a specialist did the root canal they will use a microscope during the procedure to evaluate the soundness of the tooth prior to doing the root canal. In most cases, if a fracture of the tooth is noted, they will not do the root canal and will advise you to have the tooth removed.
There are a lot of dentists who do root canals themselves, and there is nothing wrong with that, but sometimes they complete root canals on teeth that have fractures that make the tooth either very difficult or impossible to restore (cap/crown).
The hallmarks of a failing tooth are pain, swelling or discharge (pus). I would tell you that if you have any of these symptoms it is fairly unlikely that the tooth will have a good long-term prognosis. Antibiotic treatment may relieve symptoms temporarily, but the tooth would still need definitive treatment.
CVS sells temporary cement that you can use to re-cement the crown back on the tooth, providing there is still enough tooth to hold the crown. If your dentist feels the tooth is stable and can still be restored you will likely need what is called a post and core and then the crown. This will add to the expense of having the tooth restored, but will allow restoration of a tooth that has lost much of the structure above the gum line.

I did it. I didn't have the money and I was the first person in my family to attend a University. I went to Henry Ford CC and took 19 credit hours per term and four-pointed (all A's). I got an Associates degree in no time and applied to University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Sadly, many of the credits I took did not transfer so I ended up losing a year of credit.
The bottom line is that if you are going to a CC, you had better be doing really well in your classes because although some of them are fun and challenging, the general cailbur of student is not the same that will be in your classes at Uof M.

|4 years 31 weeks ago||My experience is different||
My experience is different from yours. A good friend and current seat mate of mine gave 25k and got 4 seats on the 50 and a champions lot parking pass. I gave 10k and got 2 seats on the 30 and a grey lot parking pass. I have since moved to the club seats where the PSD is considerably higher and points are no longer an issue.
When I spoke with the athletic department, the all in seats were non-renewable because they were going to be re-numbering the seats making the seat space wider (at last). Because of that, there would be seats that would no longer exist. They have been moving people around in preparation of getting that finished and that was why the tix weren't renewable, because some of the seats would just cease to exist.
Last year, the minimum donation for tix seemed to be $250-300. With the ND night game and tOSU at home there will be high demand for tix.

Maybe I drank too much wine tonight, but I think your comments about DB are a bit "douchy". The process was what it was. Get over it. Hoke, although not my first choice, is doing a good job at recruiting. DB doesn't need to be held accountable for anything. What did bloggers say we needed? A kicker, OL. DL, and defensive backs. What is Brady Hoke going after? OL, DL and defensive backs. If you can't take success, go root for Sparty.

Personally, I don't see us being able to lure any west coast talent to Michigan. Give me Gruden. I don't want Hoke coaching us. If we want to maintain our APR we need to keep Denard. DB has to see the value in branding of having a future Heisman winner on the team.

I thought the plane belonged to Rogul, a wealthy Michigan Alum and strong supporter of the University of Michigan. He certainly could have let the University use it for the purposes of interviewing potential HC candidates, but he could also be going for a good cajun dinner.

He tells them the same thing that thousands of parents across the state of Michigan have had to tell their families, that he lost his job. Fortunately for him though, he can also tell them that he got a 2.5 million dollar severance package. It makes the news a little less harsh.

Because people closed ranks behind the head coach and the team. In Michigan, everyone was so eager to go after RR, it was like a feeding frenzy of people trying to turn in dirt on RR +/or the team. Sad state of affairs for AA.

FWIW, I talked with someone today who asked DB that exact question....will the alums have a say about RR's future. He said DB told him "absolutely not". I respectfully disagree. I went to the poll and the ad banner was a search engine for tattoo parlors. Too bad this couldn't have been a poll about if tOSU players should be suspended for the bowl game. Would have been pretty funny.
|4 years 35 weeks ago||Don, I disagree with you||
I disagree with you somewhat. Fans and media are holding coaches responsible for irresponsible behavior by their players. Why does that only count for things that entail possible prosecution? Even if we as fans don't hold them responsible for academic failures, the AD and the Regents do. I would hate to be a coach who has incredibly talented kids, but can't motivate them to go to class or study.
|4 years 35 weeks ago||If I was David Brandon I||
If I was David Brandon I would give RR strict instructions not to burn DG's possible medical redshirt. Anyone out there who still believes RR's fate rests with the results of this game is kidding themselves. RR has made very difficult decisions regarding players' health even when it would have improved the odds of winning a game. The health of the player always came first. I would hate to see that change. If RR is to go, I would like people to remember that he always put the player first. If DRob is really 100% we shouldn't need him, but in a pinch, I would play Kennedy.
|4 years 35 weeks ago||Any rational and thinking||
Any rational and thinking person would agree that RR should be allowed to graduate a class. For god's sake, look what we gave Tommy Amaker!!! There will be plenty of people who will treat JH like a god.....all those vocal folks who have been beating the anti-RR drum. Think of any talk radio host. I won't listen to Jeff DeFran on WTKA any more because he is one of the biggest haters. I am just trying to think of a way to pay him back for all of his "support" of Michigan athletics. Boycott the station? Then I would lose Sam. Boycott his sponsors? They are the same sponsors for Sam and Jeff. Any good ideas out there?
|4 years 35 weeks ago||I read one post about the||
I read one post about the Maryland game. The AD did say that they were looking for someone with a "flashy, high-powered" offense. No mention of defense. The announcers danced around RR, but did mention him by name.
I think DB told RR that he should quietly entertain other job offers. I'm sure there is a monetary penalty if he were to disclose that he was not being retained. His agent is likely shopping him around. I also think J.H. has already been hired and will be announced as the new head coach at the same time DB announces parting of ways with RR.
There will be no coaching search. That has been going on since the Wisconsin game. DB will make it so smooth you won't even know what hit you.

It was the biggest Christmas present for Sparty. As much as I dislike T,P, Posey, Herron, etc, tOSU is still a better team with them than without them.
The AD for tOSU said there were mitigating factors and that those facts would come out when the NCAA gets all the facts. It would be one thing if TP wanted to use the money to give it to his family, but its entirely different if he is using it to buy tattoos.

|4 years 37 weeks ago||What Sparty fails to realize||
What Sparty fails to realize is that the conventional wisdom was that we needed two in-state teams in order to sell out the Big House and make this event a success. When MSU returned many of the allotted tickets they were sold to Michigan fans and the event remained wildly successful.
Now that we know that we can sell it out, WITHOUT MSU, we can do it again with the team of our choice. This event needs to happen every 4 years, no sooner. The event needs to maintain its novelty, and it needs to be something that every Michigan senior has the ability to play in if he stays for four years with Michigan Hockey.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||DB's History Lesson||
This is nothing less than the start of the (Michigan) Civil War. David Brandon is the new AD, much like Abraham Lincoln was the new president of the United States. He is faced with a seemingly no win situation at Ft. Sumpter (Schembechler). If he fires RR after OSU, he basically declares war on the RR supporters which he badly needs to fill the seats and suites of the Big House.
Instead, he tells everyone that the coach and players have earned their bowl bid and he wants to see what they can do. Much like Lincoln saying that he wants to send humanitarian supplies to the garrison at Ft. Sumpter, but if the South Carolina militia interferes, he has his forces sittting in Charleston Harbor.
Now, the move is up to the South (RR). If the bowl game is a bust, Brandon has now won the support of the southern unionists as well as some confederates. If RR comes out and slaughters the competition at the bowl game, Brandon is forced to legitimize the RR regime.
I'm on pins and needles waiting to see how it ends.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||The cellphone is important||
The cellphone is important for me because for any other event at the Big House, RR would have been on the sideline coaching and would have no interaction with a recruit. At this event, he had ample opportunity to get more face time with the recruits. he didn't. Barwis was doing a great job as was Bruce Tall, Rod Smith and think Chris Singletary. I just would have liked to see RR as active as those guys were. For the record, none of the others found the need to get on their phone.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||If a coaching change is made,||
If a coaching change is made, yes it will be made for bigger reasons. The problem is that this is like the civil war. How does DB make a change and not piss off half the people? The bottom line is that this is a business and they need to sell seats.
Whaterver has already happened has not been enough to sway the minds of 50% of the people. I am a RR supporter, and I would ber very sad for him to go. However, I went to undergraduate and graduate school at Michigan and I believe that the athletes can't be given a "free pass". For me, if a player who was in a skilled position and a player of need was determined to be ineligible, I would have to say it's enough to sway me.
Absent any other bombshell that may fall, I would still rather keep RR, but if something more came to light, I would change my mind. I thought about not paying my PSD until I found out who the coach was going to be, but then I figured I loved Michigan Football more than I loved the head coach. Brandon would have to bank on similar reasoning from other fans if he is to make a change.
|4 years 38 weeks ago||On the Red Berenson show he||
On the Red Berenson show he mentioned that there may only be a slight advantage to Michigan for two reasons. The first was that Michigan had "quicker" skaters than MSU, and could get to a puck on a larger rink. The second is that Michigan has been practicing on the outdoor larger rink for the past week. The difference is about 6 feet in length. Supposedly, the ice is in excellent condition and is 4 inches thick (no jokes) and is thicker than the sheet they skated on outside at Wisconsin that was only 2 inches thick and had some issues with ice quality.
At least that's what I heard on the radio show. There is a link here:

|4 years 39 weeks ago||I think that just as in||
I think that just as in college admission in general, the college athlete has to have a good fit with the University. In looking at schools, there were some that I liked, but when I got on campus, the vibe was just all wrong. I never felt that way on the University of Michigan campus.
David Brandon is trying to make sure that the recruits love Michigan, the campus, the academics, the facilities, and oh yea, the football coaches. I truly believe that he wants the name on the head coaches door to be secondary to the Wings on the helmet. He is building brand loyalty, not coach loyalty. That way no matter what happens, we will have a strong team.
In the same way, by waiting, Brandon is allowing the fan base to calm down, be more rational and be able to say that they will accept what is best for the University. I know that I have supported RR until I am blue in the face and I am now at the point that I'm tired of arguing, I will accept whatever Brandon decides because first and foremost I am a Michigan man.

Part of the NCAA investigation into Michigan Football was a direct charge against RR. At that time, the NCAA already had the information from WVU althought it was/is yet to go on record with its findings. Every charge leveled against RR personally were dropped.
Whatever happens at WVU will not directly impact RR at Michigan. It may indirectly affect him, but the NCAA cannot reach out and touch him for something that was done at WVU.

David Brandon has been meeting with each recruit and their families. I think what he has done is made the recruit feel good about MICHIGAN as a place to play and go to school rather than it being entirely about a coach. Coaches come and go, good AD's don't. If the kids and families get good vibes from Brandon, they will be assured that he will always do the best for them with respect to coaching and come regardless of what happens on Jan 1.

This isn't a kidnapping where someone is trying to get ransom money together. It wouldn't take the University of Michigan 10 seconds to find the money to pay off RR's contract and enter into a new one if that was what it wanted to do. There are plenty of athletic boosters who would help with that even if the University didn't want to write the check.

As stupid as this sounds, this is the level of most of the posts and comments over the past week.
I think we all need a break from things and Brian should host a live blog for the Victoria's Secret fashion show tomorrow night!
|4 years 39 weeks ago||I actually think Brandon has||
I actually think Brandon has faced a similar decision before. Brandon was faced with the fact that many people were unhappy with Domino's pizza. He personally got involved in every level of pizza production and delivery. He made sure he knew everything about the entire process, then he developed test kitchens at Domino's and began to fix what was wrong. He was faced with saving the brand or losing market share.
Now, he has a similar situation. He has already said that one of his main goals is to begin to increase the marketing of the "Michigan" brand. How can he do this when many people are unhappy with what that brand currently represents? He is doing very similar things with the athletic department. He is learning every aspect of the product. He is now involved in the recruiting process, he attends practices and meetings, he goes with the team to review film, all so that he can see if the problem is the process or the individuals involved in the process or the athletes themselves.
Once he has all of the information, he will make his decision. Unfortunately, there isn't a test kitchen for coaching, so here he will be a little out of his element, but I don't think it will matter much. By the time he announces his decision he will have met with the student athletes, conducted "exit interviews", met with donors, administration and regents and will have a plan of action. If this includes replacing the head coach, I would bet that he announces the departure and hiring of a new coach at the same time. The business of a coach search will not be done in the media spotlight and it will not be tainted by Herbstriet, and others.
I am a firm supporter of RR, but I am a bigger supporter of David Brandon, and I am happy that I am not the one that has to make this decision, but I trust it will be the right one.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||I think any rational person||
I think any rational person would agree that if we are having this same argument in 12 months, the entire coaching staff should be cleared out. We are a long way from that happening. I know that people want Michigan to show improvement by having wins over our traditional big 10 rivals. Does it matter to these same people that those teams are ranked 6,7 and 9th in the nation? This is not a comparison of apples and apples when looking at player talent.
We definitely have youth and inexperience. Despite seeing our team get torched today, I took away some positives. I think our defense played a pretty damned good 1st quarter and most of the 2nd quarter. Coaches can only try to educate the players on ball control (don't turn it over) and mistakes in position or play reading.
Has every graduate of the University of Michigan graduated with a 4.0? No. The professors and the University give the students the tools and information necessary to get a 4.0, but for some reason, some kids get it and others take a longer time to get it. Until they let the coaches strap on the helmet and put on some pads, they are not responsible for everything that happens on the field (good or bad).
Coaches need to put their athletes in a position to win games. Give them the tools and see what they can do with them. I say just give them some more time.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||I think the mistake in OP's||
I think the mistake in OP's statement is that the rich alums want RR gone. By most standards, I am that rich alum. I am not the "uber" rich alum, but I have, and will continue to contribute to the University of Michigan. I am also a supporter of RR.
I have found that most of the people who are the most vocal about RR are those who never attended the University. They may work at the University, they may live in the area (or not), and they may just be people who are hoping for turmoil at the University of Michigan so they can take advantage of it. Michigan may be down, but they will not stay down.
Brandon will make the right decision and even if it is something that I am not happy with, I will support his decision because I think he has a great vision and long term plan for athletics at the University of Michigan.

My best advice to you is to find a friend who is from Ohio and ask if you can drive their car. Nothing worse than a Michigan License plate at an Michigan/OSU game. It also will hurt you on the highway with the State Police if you are even going 5 miles over. I've only been to OSU once and having the car with Michigan plates only made me a target wherever I went....and people call Michigan fans names ?????
Having said that, I hope you have a great time.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||The MSM is full of RR haters.||
The MSM is full of RR haters. I am sick and tired of hearing or reading about someone who has a contact in the AD office who says something to the effect that RR is gone. I will tell you that I have friends in the AD office and things there are locked down tighter than my virgin sister. Brandon will not tolerate anyone talking or "leaking" information. This was the curse of the Bill Martin administration and will NOT be tolerated by Brandon. Whatever is or is not going to happen will not be leaked unless Brandon himself wants it to.
Some of these guys think that if they keep saying the same thing long enough and loud enough eventually they will get people to listen to them. F#$k them all! Happy Thanksgiving.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||I think we are all trying to||
I think we are all trying to second guess David Brandon. The University of Michigan hasn't had such a hands-on type of AD since Don Canham. Brandon is at practices, film study, does interviews with the players, he wants to know what is going on. Remember, this is the guy who took a good thing (Domino's Pizza) and tinkered with it to make it better.
I don't see any test kitchens being built to test out new defensive schemes, but I can guarantee you that the program WILL be tinkered with in some way minute the regular season ends. It makes no sense to replace a DC now unless you plan on keeping your head coach. Otherwise, any new HC would want to hire his own DC. If GERG goes before the bowl game but is not immediately replaced, then I am inclined to think there will be a bigger shake-up. If GERG stays through the bowl game, I think the changes to the coaching personnel will be minor.
Just my 2 cents

Looking at the Athletic Director and the Head Football coach and their actions since they have been hired which would you trust to make the right decision regarding the long-term success of this program? |4 years 41 weeks ago||I have east side club seats||
I have east side club seats and a friend with west side chairback seats. The chairback seats are the only "club level" seating on the east side. There are boxes on the east side, but no outdoor club seating. In addition, the chairback seats do not allow access to the club level of the boxes on the east side.
On the west side, box seating allows access to the two levels below it, and one may use the concession stands in those areas if they wish. You may also get passes to leave the club seating area and enter the main concourse of the stadium.
I did not see that the chairback PSD was reduced, although I think they were tougher to sell out than the club seating on the west side. I have not been asked to renew the club seats for next year yet, although some others that I know have already been extended offers to renew their seats for next year.
Maybe this helped or maybe it was TMI, but it is what I know.

It sounds like a mutually advantageous time for a split between she and the University of Michigan. I wish her well.
I do not know if she had anything directly to do with the failure of CARA reports being filed, but I think that DB will leave no stone unturned in trying to root out anyone who has not been supportive of the program either by declaration or by deed.
While Bill Martin was still AD, I had a friend who he was talking to. He said that the people from the NCAA knew exactly what to ask for, what day, what event, etc. He said the only way to know things that the NCAA was directly asking for was by having someone inside the University feeding them the information. He was very frustrated that he couldn't find out who it was. DB seems unlikely to tolerate anyone who is not "all-in" for Michigan.

I like Hopkins probably because I am over 50 and he looks more like an old-school running back to me than Smith does. I think he has a better frame, is harder to take down, and with more reps, he could be our lead RB.
Having said that, I look forward to see what Dee Hart will bring to the table next year. If we can have a threat with the RB, the QB and the WR/SR, we are going to be even harder to defend.
|4 years 42 weeks ago||I had sideline passes for||
I had sideline passes for Iowa and what I saw was that the recruits were on the field until the coin toss and then they go into the stadium. They all sit in the first five rows directly behind the Michigan bench near many of the player families. The all have front row center seats. They go back down on the field after the game and are allowed back through the tunnel to the locker room. There were a ton of guys for that game, some have already committed and others that haven't yet. There were also probably some younger guys there as well. They have to pay for their ticket, but Michigan gives them a seat with the other recruits.
|4 years 42 weeks ago||I second SysMark. Some||
I second SysMark. Some friends of mine were at the practice on Wednesday and said that DB was at the practice and on the sideline with RR. From what it sounded like, DB is going out of his way to make sure he understands RR and his program, he will not be making a knee-jerk decision.
I had another friend that saw DB at a fundraiser and he said that DB was not overtly happy about the NCAA findings. He felt that the University never should have been put in that position in the first place, so although the findings were favorable, he's still not happy. The feeling from the second friend was that DB will give RR a firm, but very fair evaluation, and if it means that he needs to do something to help out, he will.
DB has been the best hire the University has made in a long time!!!
|4 years 42 weeks ago||I like to think that the||
I like to think that the differential in scoring defense between the first half and the second half is the Barwis Effect. Our team is so well-conditioned that they are not hanging on for dear life, waiting for the game to end. They are nearly as fresh as when the game started, albeit with some bruises, and this is why we play better.
|4 years 42 weeks ago||I think the special teams||
I think the special teams coaching deserves a little love this weekend. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but as compared to previous weeks, we looked great. Great call on the kick return as well. Congrats guys!
|4 years 42 weeks ago||The only thing I am||
The only thing I am disappointed about with Saturday's game is that the players from
Dr. Phillips couldn't have been there to watch it. As a recruit, I think there wouldn't be a
better game to attend. The place was just amazing.
|4 years 42 weeks ago||Re: Michgoblue||
I'm in the same camp as you. I have been a big, vocal supporter of RR. My wife can't even stand it anymore. Anytime we go anywhere I feel like I have to defend him. However, after the PSU game, I had it. I had reached my breaking point and I had resigned myself to the fact that he would no longer be our coach, and I was happy about it.
Now, this weekend, I have seen the error of my ways and I am back to being a supporter. I want this offense to play Nebraska and Alabama. We are young and growing on defense and with some help (new DC?) I think we will be equally strong on both sides of the ball.
The most telling thing for me is that as opposed to previous years, the team has not given up on itself. The offense isn't blaming the defense and every man believes in his teammates ability to get the job done. We say "the team, the team, the team" a lot, but this group of guys, these players and coaches have really lived up to that mantra. Lets go kick some butt against Purdue!
|4 years 43 weeks ago||I wish you would have posted||
I wish you would have posted earlier that it would be your first game day at the stadium. I just gave away my club seat tix for the game. I would have gladly given them to someone who has contributed so much to this board. It would have made things just a little more special (perhaps). In any case, enjoy the game and next year post early about going to the game. if I still have my tix and I can help out, I will.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||How can you even say that||
How can you even say that "his offensive guru status will take somewhat of a hit"? I think, if anything, he has only improved his offensive guru status. He took a Michigan team with a lack of talent and an old-school mentality and turned it into one of the most productive offenses in the country (based on yards per game and points per game).
Unfortunately, the same hasn't happened for the defense (YET).
The NCAA doesn't punish the coach unless he is still at the university. They punish the institution. Aside from that, the NCAA had information from WVU at the time they were making their decisions about Michigan and RR. Notice that the charge that they dropped was against RR.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||I know this is similar to||
I know this is similar to rtyler's earlier post that talked of Sports Center and Mark May, but here, the old goat himself, Lou Holtz agrees with May. No one can discount the drastic change in Michigan's offense and where that can be in another year or two. We just need our defense to mature.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||I think he is the surprise||
I think he is the surprise recruit that Sam Webb was talking about for the Iowa game that didn't pan out. I am expecting to see him at the game this weekend. Any chance of getting a guy on campus gives us a fighting chance with a recruit. It will be a good atmosphere with the F-16 flyover, wounded warrior day, and all.
I am not getting my hopes up too high that he will come to Michigan even if he narrows his list down to 2 or 3 and we are still on it. I think we are getting played like we did by Pryor, who never had any intention of coming here, but wanted to keep us from recruiting another QB for our system. That was just another Tressel mindfuck.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||I disagree with you. I think||
I disagree with you. I think he still wants to see how this program and this team handles adversity. he has attended more U of M games than games of the other programs (perhaps that is just due to geography, but I doubt it). Tom VH has always said that he is a Michigan lean. I believe Tom. Could Zettel's mind have changed? Sure, but you have to remember that this is a guy that is looking 4 or 5 years down the road. If he is looking for a great campus, a terrific education and a wonderful campus and football stadium/facilities, few can beat us.
I'm more concerned that with the forecast of snow on Friday that the gang from Dr. Phillips doesn't have warm enough clothing and they sit through a very cold game. Hopefully, the University will make sure they're warm.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||It is what it is. Brandon can||
It is what it is. Brandon can give him his full support and though it has been the kiss of death for some, it may or may not be the kiss of death for RR. you can't give him a contract extension because if things don't pan out, the University is on the hook for the balance of the contract.
The best that we can hope for is that when Michigan plays at home the crowd continues to be the 12th man. That happened at PSU despite the fact most of the students and alums feel it's time for Joe Pa to go. They still supported their team. PSU was supposed to lose. They suck. On that night, we sucked more. At Michigan, I think we win that game, but it's ancient history now.
I will be at the game and I will cheer for my team. The Dr. Phillips crew will hear me cheering regardless of RR's win-loss record. Regardless of the GERG drama, I support the team, the team, the team.

|4 years 43 weeks ago||RR has to realize that GERG||
RR has to realize that GERG is nothing but an anchor around his neck. If he sticks with Robinson, both of them are looking for a job in a few months. If he cans Robinson, he at least has a chance of still having a job next season. At what point does Brandon step in and say that someone's head has to roll for this. Can Brandon force RR to change his DC?
I have to imagine Brandon has already been putting out feelers to guys who he thinks could run this program. Michigan has a very expensive stadium and they need to keep butts in the seats. If the club seat holders and suite holders decide that $2,500 and up per ticket is too much, they will bail. Suiteholders have 3-5 year contracts (I feel kinda sorry for them). When this becomes a financial issue, which it soon will, Brandon will be forced to do something.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||With or without a coaching||
With or without a coaching change, defensively the cupboard is still bare. How is that possible after 3 years? Is it because guys we've recruited/admitted didn't pan out? Is it because they left? We may have a lot of young talent, but how talented are they? Without Martin, Royster has a monster night and we let a green QB gain confidence with every minute of play. Joe Pa and staff were humane by not tacking on more points. Zook and Tiller won't be as kind.
As much as I still think it is a matter of having patience (which I admit I have very little of this morning), I am still hoping that David Brandon made a phone call last night asking Jim if he was ready to come home.
|4 years 43 weeks ago||I love your ability not to||
I love your ability not to lose perspective, but it's so damn hard!!! We cannot lose to teams we are supposed to beat. Granted, we had no turnovers, but look at the 2nd Q stats. Our defense just layed down.
|4 years 44 weeks ago||All I can think of was the||
All I can think of was the outrage over Demar Dorsey when he said he was coming to Michigan. Before admissions became an issue the media jumped all over this kid who was still under 18 years old. Yet now, MSU gets a free pass on this one. Just not fair. I hope he comes back for Iowa and they still get their asses kicked.

I hope he gets the 1k. These are the kind of guys I like to see...guys who WANT to come to Michigan. Guys who, when they get on campus, do everything they can to be the best they can be. He may play, he may redshirt, but the one thing I do know is that he gets the advantage of getting to campus early and getting things in order before a football season is in full swing. Please just stay in the dorm your first year...don't rent from the same place Demens did.

|4 years 45 weeks ago||I think there really was a||
I think there really was a mystery recruit that never materialized. I was on the field before the game and asked an assistant coach that I know if he could tell me the name of the mystery recruit. He said "you gotta be kidding me. I can't say". If there really wasn't a mystery recruit wouldn't he have just said so?
|4 years 45 weeks ago||I think that I would beg to||
I think that I would beg to differ on the lack of demand. Although there are always people that seem to be looking for tickets, I don't believe there are another 20,000 people who would purchase season tickets if they became available. Michigan had a difficult time putting bodies in the suites and club seats this year and unless things turn around soon, they won't have commtiments for the seating in the near future.
I am fortunate enough to have some great club seats this year and I have enjoyed the games 100x more than sitting in the bowl, but I look at the 2012 schedule with so few home games and wonder if it would be worth the cost. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that situation. Times are tight and this is a luxury.
|4 years 45 weeks ago||I think a 5* recruit would be||
I think a 5* recruit would be welcome here as a transfer, but I think the bar gets set a little higher for his recruitment. Playing time would not be an issue now, but after sitting out a year and our young players have another year of "seasoning" they are going to be tough to displace.
The other question is if he has the work ethic necessary to be a success at Michigan. It's clear that at Michigan it doesn't matter how many stars you have, it's how you approach practice and your team. RR has a bunch of very unselfish men on this team. Say whatever you want about the win loss record, because he is building a team of men with outstanding character.
It's like the old commercial for the Marines.....The Few, The Proud, The Marines. Many have heard the call, but few know how to answer it.
|4 years 45 weeks ago||Brian does a pretty damned||
Brian does a pretty damned good job at running this blog, but he doesn't do it without a lot of help. Some of that help comes from regulars who work with him as moderators, and some of the help comes from the regular posters who self-police and try to get things to function in a way that allows for meaningful dialogue regarding Michigan athletics. When things are slow, off-topic posts grow like weeds. After losses it is like a full moon in the Emergency Department. All the Crazies come out!!!
I am more than happy to read something meaningful from a new poster. I only ask that they look at the board to see that their insightful information hasn't already been posted 12 times. I think rather than having to have a minimum number of points to post, you need to have made a minimum financial contribution. Sort of a "get behind the paywall" to give your pearls of wisdom.

I had sideline passes today (via donation to Mott at the Spring Game). I saw most everyone above. I did talk to Damon Knox's mother after the game and she said she and her son had a great time and she is hoping to be a Michigan Wolverine Mother. I watched pregame with Funderburk and Drew Owens and Jernigan. I was happy to see that Zettel and Fisher seemed to spend their time together. It's nice to see a recruit "bonding" with a committed guy.
The recruits were all standing in the 4th quarter and were "into" the game. I was looking for the "surprise" recruit, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out who it was. I ran into a photographer, who, when we talked about Michigan Football began to quote the Mathlete. Gotta Love MGo Blog!!!
|4 years 46 weeks ago||Personally, I think this is||
Personally, I think this is fantastic. We now have the ability to protect our players and keep them out of harm' s way if they are already injured but to a sub-clinical extent (by today's standards). I Also think that other advances will come along that will help tailor workouts.
In swimming, a simple blood test after a race will determine the amount of lactic acid present and a specific cool-down can be prescribed to rid the athlete of the lactic acid and get ready for the next event.
Although this can be used as a diagnostic tool once enough information has been collected, why couldn't we find a way to develop protective headgear that keeps us below the threshold for head injuries? We have some of the best engineers on the planet!

Because of Michigan's huge fan base, controversy sells papers and gets hits. Write negative articles about RR or Michigan and get everyone excited and lots of hits.....good for business.
If you had the opportunity to listen to Michigan's AD or some ass-wipe beat writer from MSU who would you listen to? I guess it all depends on what you want to hear. All the RR haters , Sparty and tosu fans will listen to the Bull****, the rest of us will listen to Brandon.

Yes, ESPN has the attention span of a Gnat. However, I am happy that some of the pressure will be off of Denard. There has been a lot of hype about the Heisman and although it was probably great to have (up to a certain point), it becomes a distraction. He has the rest of the season to get back up there again. It's not the poll in October that counts.

|4 years 46 weeks ago||I'm sure I am like the rest||
I'm sure I am like the rest of you. I had a miserable time at the game despite fantastic weather and I have had a generally miserable weekend. I hate that we lost to Sparty. I hate it as much as every 3rd year player that has lost to them every year. However, it doesn't mean that its time to throw in the towel and write this season off or to question decisions of the coaching staff or recruiting for next year.
|4 years 47 weeks ago||I don't think anyone has the||
I don't think anyone has the right to hang this game on Denard. That young man is personally responsible for our last two wins (and perhaps that last 5 wins). Denard needs a supporting cast. Receivers dropping passes, lack of protection all make a big difference. Remember he has only started 6 games and give him a break. Maybe with this performance some of the hype will die down and he can quietly get back to being spectacular again.
|4 years 47 weeks ago||I don't think it is a matter||
I don't think it is a matter of the RB's that MSU has. I think it says more about our MLB play. Way out of position giving up huge plays. UFR will certainly show this.

I'm going to prepare for the "worst". I'm going to prepare for some Bratwurst! and some beer and some whoop ass to open up on Sparty.
Dee would be a great get for U of M and would mean a lot that hig-rated recruits are looking seriously at the program rather than RR and staff having to continue to find diamonds-in-the-rough. As we continue to improve we will attract higher rated players. It is the ability to find the underrated players that will continue to be the Michigan Difference.
|4 years 47 weeks ago||According to Sam this||
According to Sam this morning, Dee has shut off his phone and was not answering any calls. My feeling on this is that Sam (and Tom VH) get a lot of inside information from kids that they do not want made public. If they were to burn a kid by giving out information they would no longer be credible and recruits wouldn't talk to them or confide in them. I will allow Dee Hart to do anything he wants in the next 27 hours as long as in the end he puts on the Michigan Hat/Jersey, etc. I can't think of a better way to start the weekend.
|4 years 47 weeks ago||I think the best thing is to||
I think the best thing is to tune in to WTKA tomorrow morning at 7:40 to hear Sam Webb's Recruiting Roundup. It is also available online at:
www.wtka.com If you miss it you can listen to the podcast.
My guess is that Sam will be talking about his gut feeling. He will either affirm his strong gut feeling or he will tell you what he knows, without saying something to violate a confidence he has with the recruit. I, for one, will be listening closely! People also forget that Dee is supposed to be a terrific return man. I think that Gallon is actually very good (if you watch him in practice). All these guys just have to relax a bit and things will fall into place. It's like golf. You look at the water and think "don't hit it in the water". The last thing in your mind is not to hit it in the water and that's exactly what you do. These guys have dropped so many kicks they stand there and say "don't drop the kick" and that's what happens.. When it just becomes second nature, it will happen.
|4 years 47 weeks ago||I know we'll all know in 3||
I know we'll all know in 3 days, but since I really can't wait...does anyone have any info on how Dee's visit to Bama went? I can't imagine that every recruit in the nation doesn't want to be on the same team as D-Rob. Also, for those recruits that have been sitting on the sidelines waiting to see how Michigan's season goes, how many more games do they wait? is 6-0 enough?
|4 years 47 weeks ago||There have already been||
There have already been enough negative things said about our defense in other posts that I won't repeat them here, but is there anyone else out there that thinks that RR hasn't shown his hand defensively yet? I think he is holding back for MSU. I know that Iowa, Wisky and OSU are all big games for him, but I think he'd like to shut up Sparty.
I'm hoping that he has something that he's kept in his bag of tricks that we just haven't seen yet, and neither has MSU. I want to be right on this because I think that Zettel goes to the winner of the MSU/U of M game. Hopefully, we can have a big party to welcome Dee Hart and MSU can have a bonfire.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I love my Fanvision. I use it||
I love my Fanvision. I use it mostly for stats and then review of penalties and big plays. I love that there are multiple camera angles and that you can choose to watch live TV or even other games.
Great for when going to the bathroom or waiting in line for food or beverages. I never miss a play. These things will be a huge hit. Friend from ND said they were set to get them next season. I could see these things being huge for sports like golf where you could basically select one player and watch everything they do rather than the network feed.
In short, great device.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I think Dee and his mom were||
I think Dee and his mom were blown away by their visit with Michigan and the only question that remained for them was the security of RR's job. Love him or hate him, for now, RR's job seems to be secure unless the team self-destructs for the rest of the season.
I think in addition to being a silent commit to Michigan, he has also been a recruiter of other players. I believe he is trying to sway Ha-Ha, Patti, etc. I hope Brian already has the "Hello Dee Hart" post written. It will save him some time next week.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I'm sorry, but where was||
I'm sorry, but where was Harbaugh when we were out looking for a coach a few years back? He could have sucked-up a bit and made nice and been in consideration. But that didn't happen. Now that he sees Michigan on its way back, he figures he would just drop a little hint that he would be interested. That ship has sailed.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I will accept the fact that||
I will accept the fact that although we have won 4 games, they were not all "quality" opponents and we did not win by huge margins. However, I was listening to an interview with Rich Rod earlier this week where he said he was really happy that he got the wins he did without having to open up his playbook. When questioned if he has been holding things back he said that he didn't want to give too much for Big 10 schools to scout.
If MSU didn't run the "little giant" against ND would we really be ready for it defensively? Everyone always has the thought of "watch for the fake" but every time MSU punts the ball on October 9th (and I hope it is a lot) we will be watching for the fake. What do our opponents have to watch for aside from an insane QB that they can't contain, a stable of RB's, and a bevy of receivers that can each step up when needed?
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I'm glad to hear that he will||
I'm glad to hear that he will be back as well. I figure he will be in the pressbox this weekend and on the sideline for Oct 9th. He will use it to give his team an emotional lift coming into the Big House. I'm just hoping that people don't sell their tickets to Sparty fans and let them take over the stadium like they did 2 years ago. It's bad enough when they do it to Crisler.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||I think people are just being||
I think people are just being premature on both sides of this. First, although I agree that a contract extension would go a long way with recruiting, but as we all know with Charlie Weis, a contract extension doesn't mean that you WILL be the coach, only that the University is obligated to pay you for the number of years that they have promised. The best thing for RR to do is to win. The sniping will stop and he will be just like any other head coach at a premier institution.
I also think that those who believe that there should be some concrete measurement of number of wins in order to keep the job are also wrong. Dave Brandon had said in the past that there was no specific number of wins that were needed, he just needed to see continued improvement in the team in areas that RR has direct control over. RR can't be held responsible for injuries to his players. He can, in some circumstances, be held responsible for athletes who have clearinghouse issues and transfers. This reflects poorly on the University.
Lastly, I think the magnitude of the University's response will be inversely correlated to the number of wins the team has. High number of wins =little repercussion. Just keep winning, it cures all ills.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||Toussaint was not listed at||
Toussaint was not listed at 100% prior to the game. He is our future (unless we see a Hello post from Dee Hart). He needs reps just like every other player. Realistically, how many games this season do you think we will have that we are playing our #3 or 4 RB? In my opinion, not very many. Get the guy as many reps in game situations that he can get.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||What the hell have you been||
What the hell have you been smokin' man? Yes, we have a good offense. I am confident that our O-line can dominate 80% of the teams we will play in the big 10. We will also put up more points because of our potent offensive scheme and our talented players. However, our defense will lose games for us. We have a very young, very porous defense and we will be picked apart by many teams in the Big 10. The only question is if our offense can score EVERY time they have the ball and if our defense can get a stop or two that puts us on top at the end. I think you are overly optimistic about our final record for the season. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||In all fairness, I was||
In all fairness, I was watching ESPS (ABC) and they gave Denard's stats and did say that these were all in only 9 minutes of play. The coverage on ESPN was fair. If Denard had played more minutes and had some way out stats, he would have gotten more coverage.
I love that it is clear that Denard (and RR) seem to be more focused on the accomplished of the team than any individual statistics or awards.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||I was happy to see a number||
I was happy to see a number of things. I was happy to see Taylor Lewan starting. I was happy that Tate came in and handled the offense with ease. I'm happy that many players saw the field today. As far as a game ball, I would have to go with Tate. When the score was 28-14 and Tate came in, many things could have gone wrong, but they didn't. Was it because of the O-line? In part, yes. In my opinion, it was because of some very smart reads and some great patience on Tate's part. The O-line allowed him to be patient, but in the times he had to scramble, he was still in control, and appeared to have great field vision. Congratulations Tate.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||Why is everyone so eager to||
Why is everyone so eager to have WC play? Is it because he was a 5* when we recruited him? Is it because he is HUGE? Look around campus. There are plenty of huge people who are not capable of playing D1 football. The problem is that just because you are large, doesn't make you good. Techinque is important and so is work ethic. Trust me, if Big WC was the best player, he would be playing. You don't play because you're the biggest, you play because you're the best.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||I think Tate played great.||
I think Tate played great. 100% completion rate may be a bit decieving, but there is no doubt about it that he played smart, and he played great. He is not D-Rob, and face it, few if any players are on the same level as he is. For those who say that DG burned his redshirt for no reason, I disagree. I think before the season is over, we will need all three QB's. I have absolutely no concern for our offense, but I still have great concerns for our defense. We still can't tackle.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||If Michigan has a stud like||
If Michigan has a stud like MRob who can play, then by all means put him in. This guy is one of the best recruiters for our team. I think he will be even more effective when he starts seeing the field on a more regular basis.
As for Carvin Johnson, I think they are just being cautious. They could have used him last week, but it wasn't worth bringing him back and not having him available for the Big 10 campaign. Better to sit him out this week as well and if not needed, against Indiana as well. Have him back for MSU at 100% not 75 or 80.

|4 years 49 weeks ago||I think the smart thing to do||
I think the smart thing to do is wait until they get the headsets on and go ask Rich Rod for an autograph. Then, find Mike Barwis when the defensive line comes off the field and he is giving them a talk. Ask him if he would mind taking a picture of you with the D-Line. I think he would really like to do that for you. Then ask if you can get a picture holding Denard's dreads.
What do you think??? Use common sense. You are a student or graduate of the University of Michigan aren't you?

Don, you beat me to it. The atmosphere at the Clemson-Auburn game had to be incredible with a night game with an overtime win. All big time for a big time recruit to see. What's not to like. Michigan just needs to continue to take care of business on the field. The one thing we have going for us is that his family has visited here and they all loved the Michigan coaches and felt good about him coming here. I didn't hear or see anything about his family visiting Auburn with him. Give it a week or two and the shine of the Auburn game will have faded a bit.

My advice to you would be to put a call out to the mathlete. Great analysis of stats and a virtual fountain of information.

Dudeness,Thanks for a dose of reality. I just don't understand the people who want to know why our defense isn't any better, yet they have no understanding of the depth chart. If they just want to throw bodies out there, we have more players, if they want players with ability, they have to be developed. We are winning. We are 3-0 and that is better than most would have imagined looking at our schedule a month ago when T-Wolf went down. Stop looking at the glass being half empty and just enjoy the win.

Whistle or no whistle, Mike Martin was a beast yesterday. He was routinely double-teamed and when he wasn't, he blew up plays and was on the QB. I don't know why he wasn't playing more though. Anyone have any insight on this? By the topic, I though this post would be more about the play of MM, not just one play in particular.

I'm amazed at our collective level of expectation for this defense, which just two weeks ago, we were happy to be able to field the team. Mark May was very hard on GERG on the post game show and I think it was not deserved. Mark, and the rest of the people who want something better, fail to remember our depth chart with respect to defensive backs. Very few would have said we would be 3-0 at this point. We are playing well, at least well enough to win. In the end, that is all we need to do this season. Play well enough to win. Winning will secure RR's future and recruits will come.
We have the best facility in the NCAA and I don't care what any recruit says about a game day experience at another stadium, it can not match the Big House. What we don't currently have on defense, we will recruit. Stay focused and stay positive. It's a long season.

Dee is just doing his due diligence. I believe he is a silent commit to Michigan, but it is dependent upon the job security of Rich Rod. If there are concerns about RR's job, he wants to know that he will go somewhere where there is a stable coaching situation.
I do not harbor any ill will toward Dee for doing what he is doing, in fact, I think it only shows his intelligence. If I were in the same situation, I would look at every program that I thought I might attend (even if Michigan was my number one choice). I still believe that in the end he will choose the Maize and Blue.
We need to just keep supporting the team and the staff we have now and good things will continue to happen. That includes recruiting.

The only thing I can think is that RR is brutally honest with these guys. Guys are not seeing the field because of seniority, they earn their spot on the field. He has incredible expectations from his team and it appears a large number of them, but not all, are willing to give it their all to reach his expectations.
For those who can not or will not put forth the effort required to play on game day, a transfer is an easy solution. Every one of these guys dream of playing in the NFL. That dream may not be realistic, but it is still a dream. I' never going to hook up with Jessica Biel, but it's still a dream.
If a player realizes that he's never going to even see the playing field on Saturday, some of them see the solution as transferring to another program. Thank God for guys like James Rogers who decide to rise to the occasion and get better.

Aside from all the possible copyright issues, I would love to see this on the big screen at the stadium before one of our home games, OSU or Iowa. The crowd would get absolutely pumped. Sick vid.

Sorry guys, but my viewing experience couldn't be better. I got the club seats where they appear to have overbuilt bathrooms. In the UMass game I could leave my seat to go to the bathroom and only miss 1-2 plays. My wife, who doesn't like going to games said she would start going again because everything was so easy. And yes, they did have temporary towers for the cell phone service last home game. My ATT service is usually horrible on game days, but I could actually get texts through.

I think the list that TVH has presented is the MINIMUM number of guys who will be affected by Michigan's season. I believe there are many more who for right now are committed elsewhere or we aren't even in their top 5 right now. The recruiting doesn't stop until signing day in February and that is a long way away.
Winning also helps us with prospective players for the class of 2012 and beyond. To see a program on an upward trajectory is good. People like to associate themselves with winners. As much as guys like playing time, they also want to be on a team that has a chance of winning a National Championship or get a lot of prime time TV . Winning teams continue to recruit and sign elite athletes despite having great depth and no guarantee of playing time. We will get there, we just need to be patient.
Thanks for the great work Tom

I would have to say the entire O-Line. Over the spring and summer I thought that they would be much better this year, but it was more wishful thinking than actually having a rational reason for them being better (with the big exception of returning a healthy Molk).
They have absolutely exceded my expectations and I believe they will continue to improve as they get more games under their belts.
