You beat me to the congratulatory congratulations comment.  Though I must temper the congratulations with a warning:  At some point, the novelty of having a yard wears off.  I think, for me, it was a Sunday.  It had become clear to me (from viewing and threats from the wife) that putting off mowing the lawn could not continue.  Unfortunately, it was 98 degrees on that Sunday and somewhere around 190% humidity.  5 Gatorades and hours of heat exhaustion later, I realized that having a yard was a horrible thing.  Here's to you not reaching that moment in several years!

I've always felt that way about football and it appears as though basketball joined up as well.  It is infuriating to watch games that should be blowouts turn into close games and/or losses.  I'm not sure what it is.  Football always found ways to keep inferior teams hanging around, close enough to strike and it burned them several times.  Its definitely frustrating and it seems to me like the truly great teams do not seem to suffer from this same infliction.

Its fun to joke about when things like this come up but if Michigan ever agrees to wear something like these I am going to email Dave Brandon and personally inform him that I will never, ever watch or attend a basketball game again.  I know, tough talk.  But everyone reaches a breaking point and I've just discovered mine at least with respect to the basketball team.

This is great perspective, for sure.  However, we were pretty positive that none of them were leaving for the NBA.  This year, I think a lot of us believe that both Burke and Hardaway will be gone next year (or at least Burke).  That's like taking Webber and Jalen away, maybe moreso.  But what you said is definitely a good thing to remember.

Yes. It's all about expectations with fans. The majority of us enjoy basketball but haven't had any expectations for years, really. This is the first year I've felt it and its crushing when they are not met. Time to adjust the expectations quickly!

This is a great article, Seth.  Thanks for taking all that time to draft it.  Substantively, after reading this, the situation at the receiver position in 2013 scares me now more than ever.  Sure Gallon is talented but is he going to be good enough to take pressure off the running game and keep the defense from loading up the box??  I sure hope so!

This has been a pretty amazing thread.  I'll admit - when I first saw it and opened it I was already pissed and ready to neg everyone.  But then I started reading and began to realize:

1.  Its tremendous that the contributors are in positions that they can actually get constructive criticism from fans/readers that plan on continuing to read rather than having to turn in a work product that is judged on its own merits (e.g. legal briefs, midterm exam responses, etc.).  Readers seem to care more about the body of work which is a testiment to the roots this site has in all of us.  Either way you look at it, most of us are and will likely be committed readers and you all are just looking to enhance your visits.

2.  I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of truly constructive criticism and the lack of unhelpful criticism.  I should have expected it since our Board is pretty darn good (if I do say so myself) but it surprised me.  It just goes to show you that we all have a vested interest in the site succeeding and that fact alone must be somewhat comforting to Brian.

We appreciate your feedback.  Sounds to be more of a lack of material in general than poor moderating work to me but we'll keep working hard.

Seth or Brian may be able to address this further but I know that I and JGB do our best to keep things as "professional" as possible.  This is a discussion board, though, and the community is full of all sorts of characters - from those who only post in .gifs (one of my favorites) to those that only log in to troll.  Its not all that much different from society in general but for the fact that the love of Michigan sports unites us all. 

I think a bit of what annoys you will always be present in the Board (on any other website and in any society in general) but all the moderators definitely do our best to make all members feel as comfortable and welcome as possible.  I, for one, am quick to jump on personal attackers and let them know what they are doing is not welcome here.  It doesn't win me many admirers, I fear, but hopefully the victims appreciate it and the Board as a whole respects that we're keeping the site as member-friendly as possible.

(P.S.  Don't think twice about the ratings your comments get.  Unless looking back you see yourself truly being a troll or flamer, I think you can rest easily knowing that your good point was made and digested in general.  Sometimes the posts that get the most negative feedback are the ones that people need to read the most.  Shrewd readers know this and actually seek out the lowest rated comments in threads.)

There is most definitely a very interesting dynamic about this site.  There are definitely many people that frequent the site more often than just daily, but there are also many on the other spectrum that only visit after certain events or for specific information.  I can understand how members that don't visit everyday could be annoyed by all the "inside" jokes and memes but I think that just comes with the territory.  Its no different than going out with a bunch of guys that you don't see all that often and having to sit through inside jokes/stories in person.  Several members have created MGoFriendships just by being regulars and I think they would say that the "extracurricular" aspects of the blog are its most endearing features.  On the other hand, I presume that a many less-frequent visitors find the internal banter pretty entertaining.  To each his/her own, right?

Moreover, who can blame Brian for having his own idiocyncracies and personality ooze through his writing?  I mean, it IS his website and, if I may put my own words in his mouth, he's probably writing almost much for himself as everyone else.  Maybe other blogs don't have as much personality seeped into the writing but I think most of us would prefer reading a more "personal" blog than a "professional"** blog by Rothstein or the like.

The Spanish league has to be the best in all of Europe, right?  By my count they have 4 out of 16 still standing (Malaga, Valencia, Real, Barca).

The one thing that I find very strange being a Barca fan is seeing them play Real so many times during the year.  I'm used to Michigan-Ohio matchup once a year (the equivalent of the Real-Barcelona matchup, I think) that its strange to see them go at it 5-6+ times a year.  Still pretty cool though.

I'm not sure if I'd be bragging about the 4th highest anything, let alone attendance.  All that says is that there's nothing else sports-wise to attend in Scotland, if it says anything at all.  Plus, I don't think ranking high in attendance puts the Rangers in anywhere near the European elite drawers that are Barcelona, Real, Manchester U (I assume those are the top 3?)

If there is one thing I cannot stand about watching basketball games its seeing the coaches act like idiots on the sideline.  Creen at IU and this d-bag at Wisconsin are so animated that it almost makes me want to turn off the TV.  Seriously, standing up is fine but some of the antics are ridiculous.  That Google Image search speaks volumes.  I'm just thankful that Michigan has a normal coach (extraordinary coaching skill, normal demeanor).

Great question.  For some reason, my body does not take well to toddler viruses and they always turn into secondary UR infections.  So, I've got that going for me, which is nice.  First time I've been on an antibiotic this school year though.  Last year, five f-ing times.  And I'm supposedly healthy.

My toddler caught a cold from preschool and he infected me, my wife, and both of my parents who were visiting this past weekend.  He is now doing great after a few days of feeling miserable and I'm headed to the doctor to get a f-ing antibiotic.  Preschool germs are tremendously horrendous.

Welcome to the Board!  That said, I think the B1G will always be at a disadvantage when recruiting against the SEC.  Teams like Minnesota and Wisconsin have no chance against equivalent teams like Ole Miss and Mississippi State, for example.  The weather is warmer down there, the girls prettier, the academics arguably less stringent, and the factc that the SEC is considered a better conference will continue to permiate the recruiting process.

Either that or the fact that his wife allegedly caught him allegedly cheating with an alleged co-ed at Florida, thereby allegedly causing his retirement for "family reasons."  Allegedly, of course.
