Eric Crouch went to my high school and was invited to speak at a district scholarship ceremony. As my family and I are leaving , my dad (who doesn't follow football ) asks me why Eric couldn't cut it in the NFL. I explained, and we laughed about his new playground equipment business, not realizing he was the guy in front of me on the escalator. He must hear it a lot as he didn't seem too phased.
Long story short, I insulted a Heisman winner to his face. Oops...
I've been to the Red White game before. A big part of the excitement is that it plays out like an actual game. I'm not a big fan of our "open practice" style spring game. It's probably limited by the roster, but letting captains draft teams and having a real scrimmage could probably bring in a bigger crowd.
Ever been to Omaha? It's actually a really nice place to live. The College World Series is a blast. Hard to beat the Husker loyalty though. On game day, memorial stadium becomes the third highest "population" in the state behind Omaha and Lincoln.
I don't get much on my burrito so at $4.50 for steak, rice and lettuce, Chipotle is hard to beat. None of the other places have a discount for that. The same thing at Pancheros is like $9.00. Qdoba is pretty good too. Wasn't a fan of BTB.
I'm from Omaha and now go to Michigan so I had some HS buddies at Lincoln come up for the game. While they really enjoyed Ann Arbor, I did not like the way they were treated by the surrounding fans. Multiple rude comments about the foam cornheads, unprovoked F you to the face after exiting the stadium, and refusing to let them get on a bus when there was plenty of room. They are some of the most knowledgable football fans I know, so it is ashame to hear the crap they were putting up with.
I've been to plenty of Husker games at Memorial Stadium, and I can't dispute the sign reading "Through these gates walk the greatest fans in college football". Nebraska is known for cheering the visiting bands, and welcoming everyone (except maybe Texas).
Drowning out the visiting roster with "who cares", chanting "you suck" and booing the band really leaves a bad impression of the students and other Michigan fans. Maybe it's just because I went to school with some Nebraska players, band members and fans, but I always try to treat fans the way I'd like to be treated. I look forward to possibly making the trip to Lincoln next year.
I'm proud to attend the University of Michigan for reasons far beyond football, but it is dissapointing when I have to struggle to defend the actions of my fellow students and fanbase. We're classier than that.
Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead had his helmet violently twisted vs. Iowa State last year, but A.J. Klein was not suspended. Hope the Big 10 deals with Gholston more appropriately!
