Rick's

Rick's does nto have any food. It is a nightclub/dancing place in the basement underneath Amer's on Church Street, across from Pizza House. They have bottled beer and limited beer on draft, as well as simple drinks/shots. It is a late night place to go to get relatively cheap drinks, celebrate the upcoming year with the students (especially as it is Welcome Week), and get intoxicated.

There will likely be a line by 9-10pm tonight, with like 400-500 people packed into a dark basement with a DJ playing top 40 hits. It's not everyone's type of place to go to, but if you go with the mentality to have fun, you should have a good time.

It's Jay from Clerks, Clerks

It's Jay from Clerks, Clerks 2, Mallrats, Dogma, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

I thought he definitely had

I thought he definitely had an additionally ripping motion as he was falling to the ground. I was not a fan of the play. I'm all for intensity, but that seemed dirty to me

Unbelievable

Michigan's Justin Zeerip just got robbed. That is the worst call I have ever seen in 10+ years of watching wrestling. I understand the possible confusion in calling the reversal vs escape plus takedown... but to not even award the reverse of control with 10+ seconds at the end of the period, which ended up costing the wrestler the match? Those two refs should somehow be penalized, whether by a fine or by being suspended from wrestling for a period of time. Unbeliebable.

Not true..

That is actually not true. Regarding near fall - it is either 2 points for 2-4 seconds, and 3 points for 5+ seconds, with an extra point that can be awarded if the defensive wrestler is injured or bleeding profusely and the action has to be stopped.

Great write up - correciton though

Thank you for writing this up and the detailed analysis. I do have one correction though - Kellen did not win Outstanding Wrester, but rather Quentin Wright did.

From http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/030611aab.html :

Individual Award Winners

Wrestler of the Year - David Taylor, Penn State

Freshman of the Year - David Taylor, Penn State

Coach of the Year - Cael Sanderson, Penn State

Outstanding Wrestler of the Championships - Quentin Wright, Penn State

Not to take anything away from Kellen though! Guys should learn not throw legs on him. I'm pretty sure he hit that same move multiple times this year within a couple seconds everytime his opponent threw legs.

Pieces of tape

I'm pretty sure the pieces of tape were for the gymnastics team. They placed blue mats at those spots to land on after jumping off of springboards.

I don't get the negative connotation with Mock Rock in the main.. I understand that the basketball game also occured last night, but this event, almost entirely organized and set up by student athletes, had a goal of raising $100,000 for Motts Children Hospital, Michigan Autism Partnership, and Student Athletes Leading Social Change. I know personally the athletes involved with it spent countless hours the past few weeks preparing for last night. We should give props to them for dedicating their time and energy, along with representing the University in their respected sports.

If anyone wants to still donate to the cause, I believe they said that it is still possible. I think this link will allow you to:

Kosta

I thought he was really funny. His opening had me laughing a lot and his deliver on most of the jokes were spot on. There were a couple times I thought he might have been overwhelmed a little, but overall I thought he did very good. I liked how you could tell he really wanted to go off on that jackass tool media judge, but had to hold himself back.

Wrestling

I actually laughed a bit at the wrestling team's performance. They had the Snooki punch from Jersey Shore, Tiger Woods, and a "tribute" to Michael Jackson that got some groans from the audience.

All and all, a very fun event.

the way I view the two shows..

Survivorman is a show that shows the bare essentials that one must do to survive in the wild. He is usually more conservative, and rightly so, since he is by himself.

Man vs Wild is a show that shows how to survive in the most extreme of situations. Of course if you were trying to survive in the wild you wouldn't jump into sub zero water naked, or climb into quick sand, or many of the extreme cases he puts himself into, but if for some reason you had to do it, Bear shows the technique and knowledge to improve your survival rate. Plus, it is entertaining to see him do these extreme things. He has the luxury of a film crew and other people, so he pushes survival to the limits.

People who compare these two shows as exactly the same thing are comparing them wrong. They are two different genre of shows. They share the same premise, which is survival, but go at it in different ways.
