For the MGoBlog Bielein-bashing noise about replacing him, going on here earlier by the writers, to be formally taken back. You folks got a little carried away with all that. The guy's a great coach and we ought to be thankful to have him.
Being in Brazil for the week, I was forced to watch to have on ESPN in Portuguese. It helped, as the announcer comments were unintelligible. But maybe it's time for Bielein to bring in some new assistants, as he did a few years ago.
Hoke's teams - pretty much the same bunch of guys - played Ohio tougher and closer the two previous years than this team did. They also didn't quit down the stretch . . . . . . .
I plan to refer to this game as the 'Luck-out' Game. The Spartoons were beat otherwise. But lots of 'Toon messages coming in as if they stomped us or something. LBs forever.
Our bid got punked again, pure & simple. That's happened before, against MSU, but the other times were at Breslin. The ignominy of last night was that they got punked in their own house. Toughness is required. Having a guy named "Ricky" playing post isn't going to move us in that direction.
just have to point out that it's rigged: no young fan has missed choosing the "right" hat for several years, 'cause whichever one is chosen, there's an Arby's under it. That way, Arbys gets to distribute free curly fries certificates to everyone in the winning kid's section, resulting, no doubt, in Arbys getting several customers down the line who would never have gone there otherwise. And the kid leaves Crisler happy! Just sayin'.
And how we loved this team and all they did! Go Blue! The best to all of them wherever they end up. This old grad is grateful for the fun.
Saw that one, too. Tight from start to finish. Less risky back then; much younger so lower heart-attack potential. Wish I could see these guys play one more time. Lotta fun!
Graham Couch since he was a small child. He grew up around the corner. It's sad, really, how he has been so totally corrupted at what is still a relatively young age. Sad.
Crowd was the best in my fifteen years as a season ticket holder. Love the fact the Sparty numbers present also seemed at a low. Great win; great play; great coaching!
When Beilein took McGary out with 19 secs left and put in Morgan, I thought "WTF??!"
Then Morgan immediately went down and took that charge, saving the game. "Brilliant! Simply brilliant!" I shouted. That was a genius move by a master coach.
I was reduced to watching Denard signing autographs, down in the north end. Hand seemed to be working fine But who was that FB player sitting next to his girlfriend?
If you watch the game and you count the number of times Denard was rushed successfully - - I am not even talking about the times he was hit after throwing, or while he was trying to make the pass play - - you can easily see that without the protection he needs, he is going to be ineffective when he tries to pass. And he is going to get gun-shy as the game progresses. This is hardly a surprise: We did that some to ND and it made Rees gun-shy. Brady against the Lions in exhibition this year - - same thing. So while Denard is not a Brady or a Chad Henne with his passing skills, he has a toughness and a cleverness to put the team on his back successfully - - IF he gets protection. And I don't think all of that is just the players. Some of the formations don't appear to allow for much protection. And how about letting him out of that damn pocket more!?
Exactly right, I say, watching from the 20 yd line yesterday. Our blocking was not good; it got worse as the game wore on. Their defense was just tougher. No time to set feet, and the effect of being hammered over & over produces a gun-shyness. Witness Tom Brady against the Lions in the preseason this year. Same thing.
