I keep pushing that number higher and higher as my parents get older. They are in their 70s now and both are in good health. My view is totally skewed by how unusually healthy my parents are compared to their friends. It's strange.
My family used to buy Chrysler cars, but the sheer volume of problems we had with them pushed us to Toyota. Even things you would have thought were impossible seemed to go wrong. For example, my wife's C 200 had an issue where when you would turn the blinker on the windshield wipers would turn on. How is that physically possible!? Assuming it was some sort of controller issue?
Toyota has been great to us for years. However, I did just get a new Subaru Legacy yesterday to get access to AWD. Hoping it lasts as long as my previous Toyotas.
I have to admit I'm a bit confused as well. Academically, when I was accepted to UM it was made clear to me that I couldn't just blow off my senior year of high school. I would think that the same expectations apply in college sports. (not implying that all of these guys are lazy their senior years)
Also, when I told my basketball coach in high school that I was "committed" to playing on the team, that didn't guarantee that I would be selected to be on it. Perhaps Harbaugh is using this same logic.
My guess is that's primarily becuase we have been trained to think this way over the past 7 yeras. I refuse to let my optimism die with this new staff. Hope springs eternal...or so they say.
Really glad to read the part about leaving snow on the test track. That's one of my biggest questions about autonomous cars...can they actually handle Michigan roads year-round?
Unfortunately, that's the way many college classes operate. I studied neuroscience at UM, and most of my classes were absolute sprints through the material. It was common to have nearly half of our class fail (52% average score) organic chemistry exams. After curving the grade most poeple passed, but the fact that most of the class only knows half the material should be a red flag to any teacher/school.
He's going to have to develop a study routine by devoting a portion of his free time every day to it.
He either has a terrible teacher (30% failure!) or he just needs to study more. I bombed my first college bio exam after breezing through every one of my high school classes. I always felt like I studied hard, but when I really thought about it I wasn't dedicating much time to really understanding the material.
Honestly, the thing that motivated me was watching my parents work hard and having them remind me why good grades are important. Some kids take more motivating than that, but that worked well for me.
In your case where you have a competing internet provider I can see how the streaming option works well. I can only get Comcast, and right now my internet is decently priced...It's nearing the end of my first year, and I am about a month away from getting screwed for being a loyal customer.
Unless something like Google Fiber continues to expand, or the FCC actually enforces the ability to allow competing services, I can see prices for internet rising at an even faster rate than they already have.
I can easily see that $40 internet connection skyrocketing as more people switch from cable to internet. The internet providers will explain the price increases as an attempt to provide the "best experience possible" to their customers in response to "market demands".
Or, Comcase/ATT/etc. will continue to ramp up data caps with ridiculous overage fees to pull in more money. Ahhh, so many choices when you're an oligopoly!
