that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides

Even more crazy is that some schools give people scholarships to run around on a field with a ball. Then pay an old guy millions of dollars to make the kids the best at it. Can't get my mind around this nonsense.

Before he got there, the farthest VCU had ever made it in the tournament was the round of 32, and they had gotten there 5 times EVER. He made it to the round of 32 or farther in 3 of his 6 seasons.
His system won't work at Texas? Pitino runs an awfully similar system at Louisville and he seems to be doing just fine.

People put too much weight on NCAA performance when judging a coach. Yes he has had a couple bad exits in recent years, but his teams have consistently performed at a high level during the regular season. The tournament wins will come.
Texas isn't a basketball school but they are always able to get some great athletes who will be able to run his system effectively. I think this is a great hire personally.

Shane to Denard: Denard! The defense keeps catching up to me when I try to run with the ball. What should I do?
Denard: (thinking)..... I can't say I have any experience with that conundrum Shane.

His major problem has been hamstrings. That doesn't sound like something caused by football. I doubt basketball would make his hamstring problems go away.

This is somewhat tangential to the article, but I don't know where else to ask.
A while ago in one of his numerous Brandon criticism pieces Brian referenced something (an article? a book? I can't remember) that talked about how modern companies have begun to focus on short term financials rather than care about the quality of their product. This is hurting the long term viability of these companies because eventually their product is crap and they can't compete even though they maximized profits for a few years.
Does anyone know the source that he was referencing? I have seen this trend in a number of areas and I would love to read the full article (or whatever it is). Any help would be much appreciated.

Ah, you reveal your age.
Plymouth Salem is now Salem (not Plymouth) and their mascot is a rock indeed. Canton is still Canton. There is now a third high school which is called Plymouth High school, whose mascot is a Wildcat.
Fun fact, the winner of the community vote for Plymouth's mascot was "Plymouth Predators". Due to the negative connotations of "predator" it was changed at the last minute to the ever generic wildcat.

Internet fame and glory to the first person who successfully identifies the person in my avatar.
I shall release further hints if no one can identify him based on current information.

I don't have any gifs, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that Clark committed to a Brady Hoke Michigan team but then didn't commit to a Jim Harbaugh Michigan team.
I wish him well, but, uh....it makes no sense. Everything I ever knew about logic is failing me right now.

I've always theorized that Capn Crunch Peanut Butter is made with fine bits of fiberglass that slice up your gums allowing for direct injection of peanut butter into your bloodstream.
It is this fleeting but powerful high that keeps you coming back for more rather than the taste.

If the price of Jim Harbaugh is a slightly underqualified Tight Ends coach, I say we did alright.

Brian, thanks for this analysis but I was actually hoping to get your opinion on the PSI of the footballs used in the Patriots-Colts game...
Just kidding of course. Interesting stuff. I know this is probably wishful thinking in the modern college game, but I really hope they try to get Peppers involved in the offense as well. Seems like even using him as a slot guy that only runs a handful of plays would be extremely dangerous. I doubt there are many college DBs that can run with him.

I wouldn't be so quick to take the loss. Don is looking at the coaches retrospectively and not their attractiveness at the time of hire, which is unfair. I would say from that perspective this staff compares favorably with that one. It is quite possible Drevno, Durkin, Wheatley, and Harbaugh the younger go on to have glorious NC winning careers.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||Their play styles aren't even||
Their play styles aren't even remotely similar. Manziel is an improviser/scrambler type while Mariota is much more of a pure runner/system passer.
Mariota won't be a successful traditional NFL QB (just like Manziel won't) but if any NFL team decides to try a college style spread Mariota would be the number one choice to run it.

I am really hoping he falls to the eagles and allows chip kelly to build a true spread offense with a dual threat quarterback like he had at Oregon. I might actually watch the NFL if that happened.

One of the cool thing about coaching searches is that you learn about other people/coaches to root for. I started investigating Stitt after Brian brought him up and followed him on twitter.
He seems like a genuinely fun guy and a really smart coach. As silly as it is I will probably follow the rest of his career and cheer for his teams. Stuff like that is part of what makes college football so much fun.

This is a good point.
The biggest variable in everyone's evaluation of Mullen is how you take the quality of his competition into account versus other candidates. Even most advanced models have a difficult time taking into account how bad the teams he beat were and how good the teams he lost to were.
So to bring it back to your point, the pro Mullen crowd would disagree that he has a history of okay coaching. I'd say he pretty solidly outperformed MSU's historical average. This year put him on the map as a guy who could make it big, but I think he was already a solid candidate before this year.
Besides, look at the other plan B's that are popping up. Does anyone really want Schiano or Addazio over Mullen. Like, really? I just don't see the need for having that debate. The only real debate in plan B's is Mullen versus Les.
|19 weeks 6 hours ago||Here is my opinion on the||
Here is my opinion on the Harbaugh yes/no pendulum:
Harbaugh hasn't made up his mind. Friends/colleagues/acquaintances are constantly asking him about the Michigan job. He gives his thoughts without giving a definite answer. The people asking are left to read in between the lines because "He hasn't decided" isn't buzzworthly insider new. So they give their personal spin on it.
Most NFL guys read into his indecision as a "no" because they believe no one would ever leave the NFL if they didn't have to (as Brian keeps stating). Most Michigan guys read into his indecision as a "yes" because what michigan guy wouldn't want to be the new Bo? They are just defaulting to their own current bias on the situation.
So really, we just have to wait until Harbaugh makes up his mind. All this crap is just people who don't know shit giving us their opinion about Harbaugh's indecision.

He doesn't know his HP lore very well. Hermione was born to muggles (insultingling called "mudblood" by voldermort's ilk). Harry was neither born to muggles nor was one himself.

Personally one of the things that I am enjoying the most is how juvenile DB's writing style is. Maybe I need to voice my displeasure in a way that he would understand:
Hey Dave....thanks for sharing about the "miscommunications" over the noodle, seat cushions, cokes, Shane Morris incident, etc. So much misinformation!! It is just that...your incredibly blatant disregard for the fanbase is wearing a bit thin, we can only take so much!!!!!
Thanks for the "e-mail" and I hope you have a nice life......doing something other than ruining my beloved Michigan Wolverines.
|24 weeks 4 days ago||I really can't understand why||
I really can't understand why anyone would be offended or upset at the publishing of Brandon's e-mails.
Given the highly prolific nature of Brandon's actions this year, we the public are already forming opinions of who he is as a person. That isn't always fair, we don't always get the full story and don't know the full explanation for why things happen the way they do.
What better and more fair source for judgement of Brandon could we possibly have than direct communication between the man himself and concerned fans. Yes they paint him in a negative light, but there is no one to blame for that except the asshole who wrote them. There is no possible interpretation or media spin that can possibly twist this around, it is just a man and his words.
