Neither Borges nor Funk are going anywhere unless they choose to leave of their own free will.

Uh, no?

Jack Miller was a lightly regarded low 3 star recruit. Graham Glasgow is a walk-on. If Chris Bryant could stay healthy, he'd probably be playing. The 4 and 5 star offensive line recruits are all either true freshmen or redshirt freshmen.

The situations between

The situations between Michigan and the the four schools that you mentioned are not comparable. We're still trying to climb our way out of the worst three year stretch in the history of the program which includes the dumpster fires that were the 2010 & 2011 recruiting classes.

If an '15 QB from the state

If an '15 QB from the state of Michigan is eventually offered by UM, it will be Alex Malzone (and even that isn't very likely).

You can add another name to

You can add another name to your 2015 QB list. Yortown's Riley Neal has been in frequent contact with Coach Heck and Borges.  Here are his highlightshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1uRYaEqgHA

If you don't like the

If you don't like the "out-executing" talk from Borges, then you must've absolutely loathed the Rich Rod era and his offensive philosophy. When Coach Rod was here, some high school coaching friends of mine were invited to attend practices and had the opportunity to talk with him and Coaches Smith & Magee and their belief was that execution is far and away the single most important component to making an offense work. Most would be stunned to find out that we usually only went into gamday with 20 to 25 different plays, max, in the gameplan when Coach Rod was here. He had a very small playbook and that was by design. Practice a very limited number of plays and get to the point that you can execute them flawlessly in a game. If Magge or Smith wanted to add plays, the first thing out of Coach Rod's mouth was "Okay. What plays are we taking out of the gameplan to replace them with?"

I think they concluded long

I think they concluded long ago that Shane will have to be ready to play this season if Gardner were to get hurt.

Wrong

First, the Eddins comment was made during their fall camp visit back in August 2011, not last year. Eddins was a defensive lineman in '11. He was moved to TE last year. Second, Griffith absolutely did not say that Eddins was going to be a "breakout player". Revsine asked Griffith and DiNardo to name an under the radar player that nobody was talking about who they thought had a chance to make a contribution. Griffith mentioned Chris Eddins. That was the extent of the comment. I can tell you for a fact that Hoke and the rest of our coaches respect Griffith's knowledge of the game.

There is very little contact

There has been very little contact between our coaches and Campbell in recent months. It's clear that there are other QBs higher on their wish list than Jayru for the '15 class at the moment. He's going to have to prove himself to our coaches at camp this summer in order to put himself into the mix for an offer.

The coaches offered Speight

The coaches offered Speight first because they like him better than Cornwell or O'Connor. In regards to 2015 QB recruiting, I believe that Brother Rice's Alex Malzone will be the QB that the coaches target first and eventually offer.

Campbell was a class of '09

Campbell was a class of '09 recruit. Carr retired in November of 2007.

We already do both zone &

We already do both zone & man. The inside zone was probably our most frequently called running play the past two seaasons.

Fwiw, Coach Montgomery and Coach Hecklinski were Wilton Speight's primary recruiters.

Borges used the Pistol

Borges used the Pistol formation from time to time in 2010 with Ryan Lindley. There's a bit of a misconception that you need a running QB to utilize the Pistol. Petrino used it at Arkansas with Mallett. Okalhoma St utilized it with Brandon Weeden. Both were and are pure pocket passers.

Your comment about man vs

Your comment about man vs zone isn't really true.  The beauty of what Harbaugh and the 49ers are doing is that they're incorporating spread-option runnning plays into their already existing traditional man blocking concepts.

Cool. Thanks.

Cool. Thanks.

Magnus, in your opinion...

Is this unnamed defensive player who is rumored to be leaving a role player or potential starter? In other words, will his departure hurt?

If you're going to use Sam

If you're going to use Sam Webb as a  source, then at least make it clear that he believes we have increased our lead for Derrick Green in the past few days. His belief was that we were his leader by a mile but now he has bumped that lead up to two miles.

Did you fall and hit your head or something?

In 2011 we beat Notre Dame, SDSU, Northwestern & Nebraska. This year we beat a likely nine win Northwestern team.

Agreed

Agreed

The offense that Borges ran

The offense that Borges ran at SDSU in '09 & '10 was nothing even remotely close to that of Walsh's "west coast" offense. Ryan Lindley had free rein to change plays at the LOS. It's quite possible that Hoke & Borges just don't trust Denard to audible.

Here is footage from SDSU's bowl game against Navy in 2010. Notice that they begin the game in no huddle mode (which they did quite often in '10). Lindley audibles frequently.

Freaking Quacks stealing our recruits.

We'll be okay whatever the young man decides to do.

FWIW

The Michigan coaches have already told Conley that he can play wide receiver here. That is not an issue at all in his recruitment.

Denard hurt his hand late in

Denard hurt his hand late in the 2nd quarter when he was tackled in the backfield on a failed zone-read play. After the play, he was shaking his hand as he was trotting off the field. I'm assuming that since he was back out there to start the 3rd quarter, there were no broken bones.

Max protect is generally the

Max protect is generally the best way to counter linebackers or safeties blitzing through the A gap. Misdirection is also an effective way to counter that. Here's a good read on the subject...

The limitation of his

The limitation of his quarterback (Denard) is that he's an inaccurate passer. That makes it difficult to execute a gameplan under any circumstance, especially when our offensive line has, so far, been struggling to run block effectively.

Maybe so, but, it won't

Maybe so, but, it won't happen. That's not how Borges and a lot of pro style coordinators run their offense The most likely outcome is that Denard will no longer have the option to audible.

BTW, Gordie Bell makes a very good point about the whole picture pages thing. It often comes off as a way of publicly "pantsing" the coaches, even if that is not the intent. We don't have nearly enough information to make an educated guess on many of these things. You need real, actual game film and a detailed explanation from both the coaches and the players before any of these questions can possibly be answered.

I enjoy the picture pages and the UFRs but also think of them to be "for entertainment purposes only"...

Yes, Coach Borges could do it

Yes, Coach Borges could do it himself if he were running someone else's offense (Coach Rod's) but he's not. Now, what we need to figure out is whether or not the bubble screen is in the audible package that Denard is working with. If it isn't then I agree we have a problem with Coach. That should be automatic.

Your mistake is assuming

Your mistake is assuming that Denard isn't allowed to check out of a play, which again is incorrect. Just a little tidbit...the speed-option is one of the plays that Denard has the freedom to check into, on any snap, depending upon the alignment of the defense.

This is where I disagree

This is where I disagree somewhat. It is not unfair for an OC to expect his senior QB to be able to read certain keys and audible into a play on his own without it coming from the sideline.

Sigh...

It has absolutely

Sigh...

It has absolutely nothing to do with Denard's "mental capacity". Quite frankly, I find that suggestion from you to be absurd and borderline racist. Denard spent his first two years in an offensive system that required very little from him pre snap. The audibles came from the sideline from Coach Rod himself. Under Coach Borges, he is being asked to read certain keys on his own. He has much more responsibility in this offesne than he had under Coach Rod. Reading defenses is a skill with an instictual component as well. If you want to say that Denard is lacking in instincts, then I would agree. Landry Jones would fall into that category too. It has absolutely nothing to do with the young man's smarts or mental capacity however.

And you would be wrong about that

Denard is given a run/pass option on almost every playcall. He is asked to read a couple of keys and is given the freedom to audible based on what he sees. He almost never checks out of a play. When your QB isn't comfortable audibling on his own, the OC is left with having to come with the perfect playcall and then need damn near perfect execution from your players on every snap.

Perhaps Borges needs to be on the sidelines so he can call the audibles himself? I don't know the answer to that but what I do know is that you are very limited as a playcaller when your QB can't (or won't) check out of a play, even when he has the freeedom to do so.

I agree with this. Borges

I agree with this. Borges should know better by now than to have bootlegs incorporated into the gameplan. This is stubbornness on Coach's part, still thinking that maybe he can turn Denard into Michael Vick or Charlie Ward. It's not going to happen.

Cade McNown would be the

Cade McNown would be the counter to that argument.

Right. It is Greg Mattison's

Right. It is Greg Mattison's fault that we have no upperclassmen defensive tackles or linebackers on the roster who can play. Perhaps you and Hannibal should let this quote from Brian sink in:

"Meanwhile, Ondre Pipkins, Mario Ojemudia, and Keith Heitzman (a redshirt freshman) saw plenty of time on the defensive line and Jarrod Wilson was the guy who came in when Michigan went to nickel. You make shake your fist at Rodriguez's last couple recruiting classes now"

Barry Sanders had his most

Barry Sanders had his most productive season ever under Bobby Ross in 1997.

You didn't just try to

You didn't just try to compare Oregon's read-option offense to what the Patriots run, did you?

Originally, the staff only

Originally, the staff only planned on taking two linebackers total in this class. When McCray decided to commit, it was somewhat out of the blue so the plan changed. A decision was made that they would take both Gedeon and Levenberry if they wanted to commit. Otherwise, we're only taking two (those two will be McCray & Gedeon).

One other thing regarding

One other thing regarding Levenberry's recruitment

The fact that FSU has one of the best Criminal Justice programs in the country is hurting our chances with him. When the kid says that academics are important to him, he's not just blowing smoke. It's just that FSU happens to offer the specific major that he's interested in and we do not.
