We'd need to be in a position to win or be competitive for me to be impressed. I'm not going to parse plays and try to find positives like "Lewan has nice footwork" or "Demens made a play". I watch a team and this team isn't competitive with quality teams.
D'Antonio has been at MSU for one more year than RR has been at UM and we were throttled in that game. Unless you want to argue that he inherited a roster that was many times better than what RR inherited, you can only conclude that RR has not done as good of a coaching job as D'Antonio.

Flipping a coin 10 times and getting heads 7 times is variance. What we saw today was the difference between a well-coached team and no-so-well-coached team. Good teams take advantage of major mistakes. Bad teams make major mistakes. The trend we're witnessing this B10 season is not variance.
This team is hard to watch sometimes. Generally I understand the "they're a young team" comments but this is getting ridiculous. Multiple facemask penalties, illegal formation penalties, multiple kickoffs going out of bounds, not covering the blocked field goal. I'm a fan and I wear my maize and blue with pride but right now it's mostly educational pride.
Just out of curiosity, what metrics are you using to say Nebraska is a good research institution? I did use USNWR which 1) I used to rip my Pac10 friends on how bad 1/2 their conference is and 2) gave me a heart attack to realize I would be forced to pay out-of-state tuition for my kids if I wanted them to get a decent university education. I knew Oregon schools were bad but USNWR makes them look atrocious. UGH.
So the hesitation with lesser academic schools joining the B10 is that they potentially wouldn't contribute appropriate research opportunities for B10 faculty? And without those added research collaboration opportunities, getting a bigger slice of the world's research financial pie wouldn't happen?

First discussion section, the TA says that 30% of our grade would be based on participation...but that she realized some of us were shy so she wouldn't penalize us if we didn't say anything. This was a 300 level class too...
I took Fluid Mechanics (in the ME dept, I think it was 370) after some brutal 400-level physics classes and thought it was cake in comparison. There was a girl sitting in the front row who stopped lecture one time to ask about the "giant S". The prof couldn't figure out what she was talking about so she walked up to the board and pointed to a integral sign. The professor, incredulous, said it was an integral. She replied, "And we're just supposed to know that?" I knew then I'd be getting an A.
Just saw yours after I added mine. I had Aronson as a prof. One of my classmates went to her office hours for help and she said that providing help to him wouldn't be fair to the other students. He started to break down and begged for help. She told him "That which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger." He dropped the class.
This list starts and ends with Physics 401. It was the weeder class. Seems like every other major was trying to attract students and the physics dept was trying to get rid of as many as possible. Problem sets took a group of 6-8 students 2 days to do and we had means on the exams in the teens. Just brutal.
I can't remember her name but I had a prof in the Nuclear Engineering dept pull the same crap. I was meeting with her to figure out what I wanted to do after undergrad. She told me to my face that my grades weren't good enough for grad school...especially at a place like Michigan. 5 years later when I was finishing my Ph.D. in EE - at Michigan - I almost had an extra copy of my dissertation printed to throw on her desk.
This is really two points:
1) I read this and just looked very briefly through Rivals. tUoOS only has one OL commit, USC only has one OL commit, UF only has one OL commit and Alabama only has two. Seems like a lot of schools are below average in OL recruiting so far.
2) Penn State has 5 but they aren't from the midwest. Where did everyone end up if this was such a bumper crop?

Yeah, I'm with you. The D is my big concern unless they increase their scoring average by another 12 pts again next year. RR will be successful at UM or if we fire him prematurely, he'll be successful at his next gig while we're breaking in the next guy.
Wolverine Nation needs a wakeup call. The "because we're Michigan" mentality has to stop. I never realized this until I moved away but we sound so stupid everytime someone says it.

This is exactly my point. Schiano, Ferentz and Miles all turned us down last time. You think the job looks more attractive now? What other different good coach are you getting?
You're an executive with two job offers...
1) A smaller company that hasn't had a lot of success but wants to get better. Exists in a small-ish media market and kinda flies below the radar. Pay is $300k/yr. If you make the company bigger and better, you're a legend in the business world.
2) A larger company that has had a long history of success but has been losing market share for 10 years. Exists near a Top10 media market that compares all teams and coaches to a ghost that existed almost 30 years ago in a different business climate. Pay is $300k/yr. If you make the company bigger and better again, the best you can expect is a marginally favorable but never equal comparison to said ghost.
Seriously, which one would you choose? Job1 is a lot of other schools. Job2 is UM. No matter how egocentric you are, Job2 doesn't look so hot.
Michigan people are a lot like GM people. They ignore the slow erosion of market share (GM) or the program (last 5 years of UM football under LC) and just keep on believing they're better than everyone just because they are GM or UM football. Move away from SE Michigan and you realize GM/UM football are basically jokes around the rest of the country. GM/UM football need to be torn down before they can be rebuilt into a more viable long-term organization. Wait - we won the Capital One bowl!!! And GM turned a profit at about the same time...
Anyone who wants to fire RR now or after the next two games or even after next year, please humor me and at least put forward a credible strategy to move forward. I work in a corporate environment that encourages constructive criticism. However, it places responsibility on the person raising the issue to prepare a credible solution to the issue. I'd love to see that ethic here before there are any more "FIRE RR!!" posts. Use some of the critical thinking you learned (and paid $$) for at UM.

And before you propose some other big name coach who of course wants to come here "because we're Michigan", consider that 1) they'll have seen us can a successful BCS coach after only two years and 2) Michigan fans are the only ones who have been buying into the Michigan brand the last few years. It's not as plum of a job as we would like to think.

Occasionally yes but as a rule no. I grew up in Michigan in awe of UM and then got three degrees from there and totally drank the Kool-Aid. It was a reality check when I moved away and realized the rest of the country isn't quite as in awe of UM as we think they are. If you think we're recruiting on the same level as Florida, USC, LSU, Alabama and even tOSU, you're kidding yourself. We've been a second tier school for a while.
And Jim Harbaugh might be showing promise but he didn't get Stanford to a bowl in his first two years. UM nation is in meltdown mode because we might not get to a bowl again. If we brought in Harbaugh would we fire him after two years if we weren't in a bowl?

Are you high? This team isn't close to a NC run any time soon. It's one thing to be fan...it's another thing to be delusional.
If we didn't have any turnovers and scored more than our opponents, I'm pretty sure we could beat just about anyone too.
We outgained them because they played on a 50 yard field all day and we played on an 80-90 yard field. That's not a big picture positive.

That's the beginning and the end of the analysis. There's no silver lining there. Our last 3 years are severely testing the "TOs are random" theory.
INTs where the safety could call for a fair catch or INTs where there are zero UM players in the frame with multiple defenders are not random.
