Same here on the West Coast. Back home in MI we used to play Euchre tournaments all the time for big money. Once I moved out here, everyone looked at me like I was crazy when i wanted to play. I have also found the Euchre can sometimes be a rather difficult game to explain to people. It's almost as if it's ingrained in your blood if you were born there. |
| 49 weeks 2 days ago | I am confused. There is one |
I am confused. There is one picture of the other side of those gold pants that has the initials. Is it just me or does it look like there is a giant phallic-looking object coming out of the pants? It may just be the end of a long work day but it seriously caught me off guard. |
| 1 year 2 days ago | I just have a hard time |
I just have a hard time justfying a lot of the extra cost of the area. Go to the bar, pay 7-10 bucks for a mixed drink and 5-8 dollars for a beer. That's a long way from some of the bars i used to go to back home where it was 3 dollar wells and 2.50 20 oz beers all day every day. Fuel, groceries, and many other necessary items are also inflated. Now true, recruits don't have to deal with those types of things, but still, it's not an easy route. Then again, when i was 17 years old if you had told me, "hey, you can live here where it's 80 degrees year round and all the girls look like models" i would have probably overlooked a lot of wrongs as well. |

The weather is hard to beat...take that as a fact from a Michigander who moved out here a couple years ago. However, the one thing I have never understood is how USC covers up the fact that the neighborhoods directly bordering campus are pretty crappy. I mean, sure there are probably bad areas around any large University Campus to some extent, but it's really not that nice. I would much rather hang around and explore the areas around AA than USC any day. Plus, anyone who has visited downtown LA or Hollywood can tell you that it's nothing near what most people think it is. Much dirtier, much less sexy than the mind would have you believe. Just my two cents on a Tuesday morning. |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | Depends on the manner of |
Depends on the manner of intake. Sure, smoking a joint would be more or less like a cigarette (actually probably more tar) and would have adverse effects. However, using a vaporizer that actually cools the smoke and mixes it with water vapor would have much less of an effect. Of course, if you wanted zero lung guilt and all of the high, they could always go with edibles, which would just be like eating a brownie or a sucker. |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | Very valid argument..... |
I think the main thing to be worried about here is the munchies though. As bad as having a player suspended is, putting on all the bad weight due to late night runs for Funions, Cheetos, and Doritos would be the real dowside to weed use |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | I kinda messed myself.... |
...when I saw that. I was about half way up with my friends at the show when it popped up, an we all weren't sure whether to cheer or take a knee to have a memorial. It was definitely a creative way to pay tribute and to set their show apart from the other acts during a somewhat disappointing line up for Coachella's standards. |

Same here. Been reading the blog for probably a year and a half or so, but really only post once and a while when something comes up that i feel i can actually add some decent commentary to. I do check the blog pretty much once an hour every day, on the hour, for the entire 12-15 hour work day. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I have noticed the same thing |
I have noticed the same thing with some of my teenage nephews and nieces. I know that I use a computer and phone more than i should, but they are just silly how dependant they are with it. I tried to make them turn off their devices as well, and they about shit themselves with fear! I sometimes like to detach from the electronic world. I generally leave my phone on silent on the weekends, try and only look at it once or twice the entire time. Or go on a hike to somewhere that gets zero service. Nice to be away from it sometimes. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I completely agree for |
I completely agree for personal travel, and believe me I always go that route first. However, there are sadly not too many flights out of Burbank that go to the UK, which was the case not the other day. That is the curse of having to go on last minute overseas trips! |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | True, but it generally tends |
True, but it generally tends to be more expensive to fly BUR to GRR than it does to fly from LAX to say MDW or ORD. I end up getting sent on work stuff last minute, so that is why i end up there a lot more often. Not at all saying I hate living here, just a change that takes some time to get used to i guess. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | 2 cents |
I am over 21 and I agree that both are in the wrong here, as in my opinion the correct way to handle it would have been to discuss these types of grievances (sp?) behind closed doors. My Dad always used to say that you praise in public and discipline in private, and I believe that's a good way to go about it. A lesson can be taught and learned without needing to shout, use violence, or punish severely. However, I think had he even tossed the computer in the trash or even hit it with a hammer, the reaction would not have been as bad as him using a gun. While I don't agree with his tactics, I understand why he did it as I have grown up with guns all my life. My dad did the same thing to some of my stuff actually, got the 16 gauge out and blasted away at a couple of playboys he found under my bed. For us, guns were tools and were used as such, even sometimes for a satirical demonstration such as this. I see why he used the gun, and I really think he should probably have thought about the broad reach of his audience. Show that clip in certain locations, and you will get a bunch of laughing and back slapping for a job well done. Show it in a different area, and you have the cops on the way. In the end however, I could definitely see where his daughter got her attitude from. I personally would have made mine work for the money to install the upgrades on the laptop instead of giving them to her, would have made her appreciate the whole thing more anyway. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | Live here for a while..... |
Once you actually move to Cali, you will understand a little better why it is disliked. For me growing up over on the west side of Michigan on the farm, this place is about the most backwards place I have ever seen, and i have been out here for a couple of years now! Probably has a lot to do with everything being expensive, everyone being somewhat fake, and having to deal with a lot of commuter/traffic issues that you wouldn't normally see. Just the other day it took me three hours to get from LAX to Pasadena, which is only about 25 miles or so away. Very frustrating. |

We are actually 2-1 in the whites, and 0-1 in the away bumble-bee explosion uniforms. |
| 1 year 26 weeks ago | Boonies? |
I don't know that i would call Allendale "out in the boonies". Believe me, there are far more "Boonies-ish" places than that in the area. The community, while small, has slowly grown outward a bit and has updated from when i was born there back in the mid eighties. It's no GR, Detroit, or AA, but it's still not miles from civilization. GVSU isn't ever going to be the best of anything, but for the money, it's a pretty damn good school. Entrance requirements have gone up over the last few years, which have weeded out some of the less serious students who solely want to go to college to party. I took a good look at them just solely becuase of the proximity (5 minutes) from home, although I ended up at Hope in the end. |
| 1 year 26 weeks ago | Darn Right.... |
Yes, we west siders decided that it should be Meijer's as opposed to meijer....not sure why that ever happened. I lived in Allendale for the first 24 years of my life, and never once did i hear someone refer to it as just Meijer. HAHA |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I was thinki about that the |
I was thinki about that the other day as well. Not sure if he has hands or not, but he would be one heck of a corner fade target in the red zone with his height and speed. Could be a really cool wrinkle to add. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I do agree with you on that |
I do agree with you on that note, maybe I took the hockey analogy a little to literally. I think we will see fight out of the boys yet though. Just like when you first get hassled by the bullies at school, you learn to adapt and how to beat them the next time. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I say good for him. Anyone |
I say good for him. Anyone would need time to begin righting that ship. Let a good guy who has passion for the game go out and try and make it happen. I will certainly pull for them to win more and more every year (excluding all contests agains Michigan) |

Bravo on the Les Miles comparison for Zooker. That made me laugh out loud in the middle of my meeting. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I think if we wanted to |
I think if we wanted to "fight back" we should have done it by beating them soundly in the game of football. Sure a push here and shove there don't hurt too much and might express dominance, but where's the line drawn? Fighting is a part of the game of hockey and is allowed to a certain degree, but it is not in football and back in the days of Sir Charles and Mr. Ray, they may have jaw jacked and tried to phycically dominate guys, but most importantly, they beat their opponents at the game of football. However, I do agree that some of the play calling could have been better, and we did get pusehd around and beat up quite a bit. The fact that this is THE GAME from Sparty's persepctive means their always going to give us their best, and we need to rise to that calling ourselves in years to come, which I believe we will do. We have recruited some very solid players along the line this year, and with Pipkins committing as the highly ranked stud DT (although I would have liked to see another DT commit myself), we will be in a great position to win those physical battles for years to come. I feel your pain man, but trust me, the pendulum is going to swing back to our side very soon. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I love how that article also |
I love how that article also says how Kelly insisted the getting a BCS berth was, "never the main goal" and that the dangling of that carrot was just a sound byte. Love to see the back tracking going on to justify less than stellar coaching and performance. |

Some interesting information below on the histroy and usage of the free kick in NFL situations compliments of Wikipedia. Looks like it hasn't been overly successful but has been used a few times.

| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I agree with above. Onward |
I agree with above. Onward and upward for us. I think that Michigan is actually in an interesting situation as we have been humbled in a lot of different ways over the last 4 years or so. The Horror, the entire 08 season, Toledo, continued losses to tsio and MSU. These are things that we hadn't necesssarily experienced before. However, now that we have, I think we have a chance to remain more level headed and also more aware of how to never take anything for granted. You can be sure that those Seniors out there don't want their last season to end that way, and many of them have learned through those items above as well. I have a great feeling they are going to turn up the intensity to a whole new level and bring us some amazing memories in the weeks to come. GO BLUE!!! |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I actually for the most part |
I actually for the most part agree with you. I can sleep in, wake up and make a more hearty breakfast than the "grab something and run out the door" weekday version, and then sit down at the coffee table with a huge mug of coffee and enjoy my weekly "Breakfast with the Wolverines". |

I have one of each of the Russian 5, but i definitely wear my Konstantinov jersey the most. Vlad the Impaler will live on forever in my heart as one of the most dominant men to ever wear the colors |

Damn right, I have to pour beer on my Cheerios just to make sure i get the day started with the most important meal and pregaming all in one. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | I am with youo there indeed. |
I am with youo there indeed. This year's ND game saw me open a fresh pack for kickoff and saw the last one get polished off after my run around my house to celebrate the win. I actually spent most of the second half watching the game through my living room windows as the GF refused to bend and let me smoke inside one time. |

I knew him a bit back in high school when I was a senior and he was a Freshman, and he is an overall good guy. He just sometimes thinks he is a little more wise than he really is.
My prediction for Kirk for Saturday.....PAIN. |

I can assure you it is. I love Michigan and the winter season, but there's something to be said for 70 degrees in January as well. |
