4 days 17 hours ago To be fair, the student

To be fair, the student government deserves to be mocked on any and all available opportunity.

1 week 3 days ago "I then emailed him back and

"I then emailed him back and asked him about us (WH, goblue16, Thorin and myself) who post highlight videos, if we would be able to continue to do it."

I think this is the offending bit, in OMG Shirtless' eyes. Notice that OMG Shirtless didn't speculate about your motives, by the way.

And yeah, OMG Shirtless! You'd better be nicer to this guy. Otherwise he'll stop doing something he started doing voluntarily, that you never asked him to do, and that likely will have zero impact on you whatsoever.

*Edit: Aaaannnd I'm late. Now I look sillier than I would otherwise have for posting with a winnie the pooh character for an avatar/profile picture thing.

2 weeks 8 hours ago Ok, clearly you've ruled out

Ok, clearly you've ruled out the possibility of anyone not wanting to play Arizona's football team. After all, you either liked Rich Rod or you didn't. As you observe, it's obvious that both factions want to play him.

But wait, if that's the case, how come I don't want Michigan to play him? How come the poster you responded to doesn't want to play him? What kind of aberrant anomalies must we be?

3 weeks 4 days ago Reading the letter, it

Reading the letter, it doesn't sound like she really objects to the logo in itself so much as she objects to the logo in what she perceives as its context. From her perspective, male violence against women is a systemic issue with UConn athletics that has gone unacknowledged by the school administration. Rebranding in the midst of this is a bit of a white washing, is what she seems to be arguing. I think her comments about the logo being aggressive and emblematic of male athletic peer culture are just rhetorical devices to try to get her point across. She wanted to discuss violence against women at UConn, and the imagery of the logo happened to provide a convenient way of doing that. At least that's how I interpret her letter.

I think there are good reasons to disagree with her, but I think some of you are being uncharitable to her position.

3 weeks 6 days ago This is an interesting idea

This is an interesting idea that I hadn't thought of. I really appreciate the response. I have some concerns with this approach, though.

What happens when the estimate is too small? Does this mean that the size of the section would have to be the same for OSU and directional MI (leading to there still being a bunch of empty seats for poor quality games)?

I wonder if there are any legal issues with over selling like this.

3 weeks 6 days ago I have a question for the

I have a question for the "shrink the student section!" contingent on this blog. How do you differentiate between a ticket order from a student that will show up and one from a student that won't? If the purpose of shrinking the student section is to reduce no-shows, how do you ensure that the seats you eliminate are the seats of people that wouldn't have shown up?

4 weeks 1 day ago I'll have to wait and see how

I'll have to wait and see how long the lines are for the ND game before I pass judgment. This will be my last year, so I would have had pretty decent seats I'd have to imagine. As long as I don't have to sit in the endzone I guess I'll survive.

4 weeks 1 day ago "Someone once told me

"Someone once told me [Brandon] is THE second most powerful person at the University above any Dean, Provost, or Vice President."

This is a problem. I would like to see the next president seriously attempt to rein this in.

4 weeks 3 days ago I see NDNation and

I see NDNation and "delusional" in the same comment, but you don't seem to be using one to refer to the other. NDNation is worse than the RCMB, except that everything there is covered in a veneer of smug elitism.

4 weeks 4 days ago No, no, didn't you see his

No, no, didn't you see his disclaimer? "Guaranteed to offend." You are all just waaaayy too sensitive, you overly PC pansies. Dude is clearly a badass, and you just can't handle how real he keeps it.

4 weeks 4 days ago Can someone knowledgable on

Can someone knowledgeable on the subject elaborate a bit on Chechen-American relations? I would have thought there'd be some enemy of my enemy sentiment on the part of Chechnya, but so much for that.

5 weeks 6 days ago ex-NBA players go bankrupt

ex-NBA players go bankrupt all the time. Might be nice to be able to fall back on a degree in that situation, is all I mean. I'm not saying he should stay, or that I'll judge him harshly if he doesn't. All I mean to say is that saying that there is literally nothing to gain from staying in school might be false.

5 weeks 6 days ago Except for a degree, that is.

Except for a degree, that is.

6 weeks 6 days ago So rule breaking is

So rule breaking is permissible when you happen to disagree with rules that you volunteered to abide by, even in cases where the consequences are immense? What about perjury laws, are they inane rules?

6 weeks 6 days ago Otherwise upstanding? I don't

Otherwise upstanding? I don't know about that. He was good at basketball though, so I guess it's all ok.

7 weeks 12 hours ago The biggest optimist would

The biggest optimist would point out that Copp was unheralded coming into Ann Arbor. That's the best I've got...

7 weeks 1 day ago My statements do not amount

My statements do not amount to nihilistic relativism. At all. And your comment about penicillin is irrelevant, because I was talking about community norms on the internet. But even if it was relevant, relativism does not equal nihilism. It might sometimes, but it often doesn't.

7 weeks 2 days ago  The board has certain

The board has certain norms, which we affirm all the time (which you note). I don't know on what basis you can judge those norms as idiotic though, if not from the perspective of differing norms. Except that it's silly to judge on that basis, precisely because they're different norms. There is no objective standard for board correctness, and so the relevant standard must be something like that which the community dictates and establishes as its norm. Whims and traditions are literally the only thing that CAN hold currency on an internet message board, and if they conflict with your expectations your only recourse is to find somewhere that is more consistent with your own values. That’s not to say that you can never criticize those norms, it’s just that you shouldn’t be surprised when they hold sway, and the most you can hope to do is try to persuade within their constraints.

7 weeks 4 days ago Aren't you a professor? I

Aren't you a professor? I vaguely remember you mentioning that you're a professor. I even pretended that you're a professor that I've had because he mentioned Michigan football a lot, even though that's a silly thing for me to do. It would be weird for me if you were in fact that professor, because part of that class dealt with the existence of God.

8 weeks 1 day ago That's fair, I suppose. I'm

That's fair, I suppose. I'm also a student, and I live on a street that has a lot of athletes on it. I think I can understand and appreciate your perspective.

8 weeks 1 day ago Some of them are no longer

Some of them are no longer students, but still sit in the student section. I'd hesitate to call them "shadowy," though- they seem like nice enough people in person. They do organize the flag stuff, which is pretty cool.

Don't pretend like the COY initiated this out of no where, though. I don't think they should have responded, but Brain basically called them (and others) out for not being more negative, which must be weird and threatening from the perspective of a (mostly) student fan group.

8 weeks 1 day ago It's fascinating how we often

It's fascinating how we often attribute positive character traits to athletes that win and negative ones to those that lose. I wonder why we do that, when there really isn't such a connection?

9 weeks 23 hours ago As much as I love getting to

As much as I love getting to watch college football and hockey, I've always been really conflicted by this. In some ways I would be upset to see it, but at the same time, athletics really does need to be de-emphasized. Michigan is a University first and foremost, and I never could justify to myself how sports reasonably fit into that. And spare me the nonsense about being great publicity for the school, because I disagree.

9 weeks 4 days ago This stuff is starting to

This stuff is starting to gradually wear me down. There's only so much outrage I can muster anymore. I know these are ugly, I don't like them, but whatever. You win, Adidas.

12 weeks 2 days ago I like this idea! Why don't

I like this idea! Why don't you boycott mgoblog? Like, forever. It is my sincerest conviction that this place will indeed improve by that action. Everyone else will join in. Honest, I swear. Don't bother checking to make sure though, because then the blog will continue to suck. Remember, you're doing it for Brian.

12 weeks 5 days ago The situation you described

The situation you described sounds fair to me. They have to draw a cut off somewhere. Pretty sure the current cut off for how long ago you can have lived in a different state is five years. At least I think that's what it was when I was applying. For both Michgan and the state I'm from.

13 weeks 13 hours ago Please change your signature

Please change your signature line to delete that quote. The irony is a bit overwhelming considering your post history taken as a whole.

13 weeks 5 days ago You sent a what now?

You sent a what now?

13 weeks 6 days ago I remember him providing

I remember him providing commentary for one of the MSU/ Wisconsin games in the 2011-2012 season. There were a lot of momentum shifts in that game, and it was just very exciting in general. His reactions seemed so genuine, something I think is missing from a profession that otherwise is rather contrived. I can understand the criticism he receives, and maybe he isn't right for soccer, but I disagree that he's comparable to Pam Ward. I can't help but smiling at his unbridled enthusiasm. It's almost comforting in a way to me, though that probably seems strange.

14 weeks 17 hours ago Why do people more and more

Why do people more and more try to equate "socially constructed" with valueless in some important  way? Perhaps that demonstrates that it lacks a certain objective quality, but it certainly doesn't mean it lacks real qualities of the sort that would make it important. Just because something isn't "inherently correct" doesn't mean it isn't significantly correct.
