I'm with you, what would be his interest/motivation in tranfering to UM? Identify the odds-on favorities to play for the Championship next year. His list of suitable schools doesnt extend beyond that group. Why would it?

Agreed, Channukah is a tough time to get canned. Those latkes are going to be bitter tonight. Apple souce or sour cream?

In the 80's the place was a pit and unless it was the Seminoles or Gators visiting there were about 25k in the stands. Biggest bunch of fair weather fans eva.
I attended the Miami blowout of Notre Dame in Gerry Faust's last game at ND. Miami romped 58-7. Prior to the game I stopped to buy a kabob from a street vendor with a hibachi. At the point where I finished the transaction I noticed that his bbq brush had paint stains on the handle. No single purpose tools in his kitchen! Miam is a wretched place all around.

UM runs the ball effectively all day. Goes into halftime up 35-0 including a defensive score. GT 275 rushing yards on the day. Book it.

The resulting harm might enhance this to a felony assault. If they are pushing and shoving first and York delivers that blow it might be simple assualt. The fact that the victim was seemingly unaware and suffered a pretty significant injury that this looks like a felony. I'm not an attorney, but I am former LEO.

As a former Military Police I can assure you that jaws break quite easily. You don't have to be an MMA expert to throw a KO punch (but it helps). The fact that the victim was compleley unaware/unprepared had a lot to do with the outcome.

New OC, now offense, new scheme. If this OL had been dominante last year they could reasonably be expected to look meh today. Time is needed for this crew to gel under the new scheme.

If your corporate IT is still on IE6 I'm guessing you are on XP, and have down versions of Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave, and JRE. That combination leaves you open to about 200 different exploits. Microsoft technically supports IE6 because it's within the ten year window but they have publicly advised against using it.
That's why criminal syndicates have zombie armys tha number in the millions.
Job Security for me, thank you lazy sysadmins.

I work in the cybersecurity world, more on the vulnerability management and configuration management realm than with inciden response so my big contribituion would be to question if you're configration levels.
Here's what I know from looking at 230K assets everyday:
If you run Windows XP, you can be 100% patched and you are still vulnerable to dozens of exploits. As some of you have found out, you don't have to be logged in admin, or execute anyhing to get hit. If you are running a down level of Internet Explorer you are at risk. Adobe products and Java JRE are huge attack vectors. If you had my job you'd hate Adobe like posion. Adobe Reader X is an important half-step in the right direction.
Win7 with IE9, and Office 2010 is a tough nut to crack. As long as you are keeping up with MS and 3rd party paches this is optimal - if you have to use Windows. Firefox and Chrome need to be he newest version.
AV software is hit and miss. It's all signature based and none is perfect. On our high sensitivity systems we run two different AV soultions and trust neither.
Here's the problem, modern cyber criminals aren't pushing malicious malware like what you are seeing. They don't want you having to reimage your system. They want to get in and stay in - low and slow so they can steal your shit. This malware comes from some dickhead in Columbus using Metasploit to exploit mgoblog. Probably T. Pryor using a sweet borrowed laptop.

The timing is wrong for Meyer. There's no way to know what's coming down in terms of sanctions. Meyer will be looking for an emerging power - not a sinking ship.

mrider; you have just been hired to be the S&C coach. You have been here for 2 weeks and your are still living in a hotel. As a leader and manager you understand that you cannot have 20 different priorities - that would be a to-do list - not a priority. So mrider; what are your top priorities for the UM S&C program?

Does anybody know Otto's # when he played for U of Miami (yes, that Miami)? I hope Bryant turns out to have the grit and toughness of Jim Otto but I agree with the poster who says wait for the NFL, not something Hoke should go for.
|3 years 47 weeks ago||Get in. Stay In.||
The goal of most modern malware is to operate quietly. Get in, stay in, and exfiltrate data, or gain control of additional systems. The malware that infected the MGOBLOG site attempted (for some not all) to download a payload of a known spyware, there's a good chance it would have redirected to additional malware as well. The ultimate aim being that criminal syndicate want to steal your shit and control your computer.
Worldwide there are close to 7 million computers still infected with conficker. Those infected systems can be thought of as a zombie army ready to take commands and participate in distributed denial of service attacks (DDOS). The criminal syndicates that control these assets will even rent them out. In some of the shadier corners of the internet you can bid-on or buy a zombie contingent to launch your attack.
Sort of like paying Scam Newton to win the BCS.

My first Mac was the Mac IIFX circa. 1990. 9000.00 USD without RAM or Video card. By 1997 my kids were using it as key-banger toddler toy.
As for infections on a Mac. Last year I clicked on a link on this site (I'm not blaming) to a bit torrent of a UM game. The destination had some additional links regarding sound problems and the need to download an additional file, yada, yada, yada ... that additional link tried to download a remote control app that would have executed on the Mac. So yeah, I love the security of Mac but I still run ClamXAV as well as other precautions.
|3 years 47 weeks ago||Really?||
The malware was likely targeting certian OS and browser versions. So some saw an issue and some did not. As for disabling your security counter-measures; Bad idea. The malware was attempting to download a very real payload.
The payload was likely variable based, if you're on Windows 7 and IE 9 surfing under a normal user account you may not have seen anything. If you are on Windowns XP SP2 with IE 6, surfing as admin - you have probably been thouroughly pwned. Modern threat is not about trashing your machine - they want to get in, stay in, and steal your shit low and slow. Disabling the security nags only makes their life easier.

The majority of malware attacks come from legit sites that have cross site scripting vulnerabilities or SQL injection vulnerabillities. I'd take the warnings serious and make sure you have updated av def files as well as run something like SiteMinder. At home I also use OpenDns, I highly recommend it.

I'm glad to hear that the program is addressing this issue. Brock's story was a high point and it's nice to think the relationship will continue. But amongst all the turmoil and transition where does Brock Mealer fit in terms of priorities? Executive leadership 101: You can't have 20 different top priorities. And considering the timing of when that story hit, unless Dave Brandon is on tape telling Brock to F-off and turn in his locker key - there's just no story there.
I'd expect an executive to be out hiring the best people, mending fences, and seeing to it that student athletes had resources to cope with the transition. If Brock had to wait a few weeks - oh well - all signs are that DB was taking care of business.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||Benching Denard, really?||
How long would Borges, or Hoke for that matter, last by benching Denard? Maybe the fact the Denard is sticking around should tell us that Denard knows what's best for Denard. I'm willing to consider that's he's as intelligent - as he is fast.
Maybe, just maybe, Denard likse the M. Vick analogy and sees Borges as a path to the NFL. By invoking M. Vick what if the wiley ol' coach wasn't just placating the fans, but maybe he knew what DR needed to hear. Does it strike anyone that DR doesn't seem all that freaked out by RR leaving. Maybe DR aspires to be more than a ninja track star?
I'm going to suggest that if playing on Sunday is the goal, Denard is better off under Borges. I'm not sure he would have made it out alive under RR - maybe there's something to the convential wisdom about the beating a running QB will take in the B10.
