Interesting idea, but how much free time would the athletes have to devote to this? I mean if you take into account the hours they put into the sport and the hours they put into school, do they have enough time for work-study?

You probably already know about this service, but I'll tell you just in case you don't. You can get Michigan baseball games on www.bigtennetwork.com for $2.99 per game. Sure you have to pay, but if you have no other choice I guess you should go for it.

The BBC also ran a story today on the news claiming that historians discovered that Shakespeare was French rather than English. They had an interview with a French guy and everything to make it sound plausible.

IIRC the weirdest bathroom was the one in the computer lab in the basement of the Union (not the Tapp room). It wasn't even on the same level of the lab's floor, it was about 1.5 feet above. Maybe it was left over from when the swimming pool was there. I think it was also really cramped inside.

Also, the bathroom in front of the elevators on the 1st floor of the Grad Library was horrible. It was so cramped inside that you couldn't even wash without getting some pee on yourself. Fun times!

Alan Deardorff. I feel bad for writing his name especially since Kuhn was worse, but I took Deardorff's Econ 340 class my first semester at Michigan and he would just put me out to sleep. I remember sleeping before he even started lecturing because I knew I was going to sleep anyways. All his exams were basically memorization and all he did was read his slides during lectures. Being a freshman, I didn't realize I could skip his class until there were only 3 weeks left of the semester.

401 was lame. I remember Kuhn had this honors discussion that he personally taught. After the second midterm, these 2 kids from his honors discussion went up to him and said "We really enjoyed that exam. It should have been a bit harder though."

I took an excellent class with Professor Michael Makin in 2008 called Russia Today. It was an upper level writing class so there was a lot of reading, and I can recommend some to you.

Non-fiction:
1. Putin's Russia (a good account of Russia after Boris Yeltsin resigned)
2. Armageddon Averted (attempts to explain what caused the Soviet Union's collapse)

Fiction:
1. Homo Zapiens (amazing novel about modern Russia, too hard to explain, just read it)
2. Skunk: A Life (also very good, also really hard to explain)

Both the novels try to explain Russia's identity after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Also, if you're still a student in Michigan, I highly recommend Professor Makin's class.

I lived in Maynard House (it's not a house, its an apartment building) on 400 Maynard for 3 of my undergrad years. It's a bit on the expensive side but it is IMO one of the nicest places any student could live in while in Ann Arbor.

It's VERY close to campus; it's one block from State Street, above Cottage Inn, and it's right across the street from Tower Plaza. Electricity, heating, and water are included in the rent. The landlord and the rest of the building's staff are really nice. They have studios and 1 bedroom apt.s for rent, but demand is high because of location so few apt.s are vacant now.

Check www.postrealtyproperties.com for that property and others they own. Oh, and Tower Plaza isn't that bad either, but as the above poster said, NEVER live in U. Towers.

This thread is making me misty-eyed.

One of my favorite spots is the Martha Cook garden/field in front of Lorch. During the winter, I'd hurry to my Econ classes and the combination of the warm lights in Lorch, the snowed over Martha Cook field and that statue in the corner just warmed my day.

You should try the Foster library. It's on the 2nd floor of Lorch hall, so it's just a bunch of Econ students. It's really quiet, has some computers, looks nice, and has cozy chairs. Although, it may not be open after 7 pm.

I use Big Ten Ticket and ESPN360. ESPN360 is definitely the better service. The video quality is much better, however when you just want to watch the game, both serve their purpose well.

I have only heard of this guy and never saw him. But those stories coupled with the posts here just add to my fear of seeing that man. This is very cruel of me, but I'm very glad I didn't run into him during my time at Michigan, or else I would have had trouble sleeping that night.

On a side note, has anybody else been "attacked" by a mentally ill man with boils on his face on E. William street? He attacked me once, but he didn't hurt me or anything. He just went crazy and ran away. I'll never forget that day.

Considering that in 3 of the past 4 weeks, ESPN's top 10 plays included Michigan plays, I would think the lovefest has already begun (began? i think begun).

After my first 2 years, I realized my apartment was the best place to study. If you're getting distracted that just means the exam isn't close enough; the fear of failure usually drives me to study more and procrastinate less. However, by my senior I was no longer afraid of exams and had to stay up till 2 hours before the exam to study properly, but I usually reserved that for the easier exams.

EDIT: Oh and Foster library was good too. 2nd floor of Lorch. Very quiet, not crowded, looks nice, and seats are comfy. The computer lab in the basement of Union (after the computer shop) is very quiet and is never full.

A lot of people prefer Raja Rani because they say it's more authentic, and I'm not Indian so I don't know. But one thing I'm sure about is that you can't go wrong with Madras Masala, if you don't mind smelling really bad for the day. Every lunch is an all you can eat buffet and it is good. Very, very good.

EDIT: Forgot to add Shalimar. A classier, and less smelly, version of Madras Masala on Main Street.

Actually I think the MDen idea is great. Now media people that question a blog's credibility will have to realize that it's actually recognized by a respected institution (I respect MDen). Not that MGoBlog wasn't considered credible to begin with, just to the media people that questioned it.

Blimpy Burger is definitely good, but you should also try red hawk and Ashley's. Ashley's is a bar but their lineman burger is pretty good. I can't remember where else I used to go for a burger, but Blimpy Burger would always be on the top of my list.

EDIT: Forgot about the Grizzly Peak. It's somewhere along Main St. Can't remember which burger's the best but they're all definitely good.
