| 22 hours 46 min ago | It's a starting point and |
It's a starting point and important, but there is also much (or more) to be said for imparting VALUES rather than just a set of rules. Rules are just things to follow so you don't get in trouble. Values impart the, er, value of following those rules. Rules by themselves don'y make you a better person, they make you a rule follower, or someone who just tries to not get caught violating those rules. |
| 1 day 45 min ago | @BlueBarron: These are |
@BlueBarron: These are rules. To call these things "core values" suggests that these are the things that represent what the organization is all about. When they think of Louisville football, should the first few things that come to mind be, "no guns, no drugs, and treat women respectfully?" That'd be like saying the first things that come to mind when you think of Wal-Mart should be "no stealing, no fighting with fellow employees, and no weapons." A couple of examples... Whole Foods' core values are: Not "don't do drugs", "don't bring guns to work," and "don't steal from us." The Michigan basketball team's core values are more succinct: A core value is "Developing healthy minds, bodies, and spirits through discipline and hard work" and a rule supporting that might be "no alcohol, drugs, or smoking." A core value is "Being respected members of the community" and supporting rules might be "no weapons" and "treat women with respect." I think the "Integrity" core value covers everything on the Louisville and ohio state lists. Strong and Meyer are really missing the boat here. |

That's cool, I had no idea she was a UM alumna. I've been a fan of hers since the beginning of the show. She has a nerd-cool style which I think is really in right now, and her fantastic singing voice goes without saying. I definitely think she's better than the brother duo. It's the country girl she needs to worry about. Cute, very strong voice, broad appeal. |

I have 2 daughters. My 7 year old recently qualified for the IronKids Triathlon national championships in August. First person in our family to ever qualify for a national championship in anything, so that's pretty cool. Of course, the top 10 finishers in her age group at the race qualified and there were only 9 kids in her age group, but don't take this away from me!!! |

re: Alabama, the Sports Management graduate program is part of their Human Environmental Sciences department. Although there is no sports mgmt undergrad major/concentration, it'd be easy enough based on what i'm seeing in the course catalog to design a custom curriculum with a sports/general management focus, and they do have a sports mgmt elective (although it's just a single course). Could be what they're selling to Hand. |

If you replace the 897 with another 981 (2011-2012 single year score), the 4 year average jumps to about 972 (give or take), which would put Michigan around 4th overall. Drop off the lower scores from 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 and replace with similar scores in the 980s and you're looking at a score in the top quartile of the conference. That's not bad. |

Its like michigan buys her drinks all night, the drummer in the band shows up, and Michigan is all like, "Hi, I'm Neil Peart. She's going home with me." Or I've just taken this analogy too far... |

I missed the game but saw a bit of a preview on my flight last night (directv on united). Anyway, an analyst was naming her top 5 pitchers and hitters in the WCWS. Michigan was represented by the freshman slugger (Sierra Romero?) as the #3 hitter. She ranked Oklahoma players the top 2 pitchers AND hitters. Basically, it seems this Oklahoma team is pretty damn loaded. |

Isn't East Lansing in Ingham County? What's with the Sparty obsession???? Geez!!!! Seriously though, stay safe out there. After all the devastation in OK, I'm sure more than a few people are on edge. I've been through tornado warnings before, spending time in the basement, and it is no fun at all. |

Definitely should have put the tl;dr version up top, although I did read the whole thing. Impressive story, but I think Kyle Dake, the Cornell wrestler who became the first person to ever win 4 straight national championships in 4 different weight classes, is at least as compelling. |

The more i learn about this kid, the more I like him (and am jealous of the family!). Also, which Bain is "that" Bain? Bain Capital (of Mitt Romney fame) or Bain & Company (one of the big 3 strategy consulting firms, with BCG and McKinsey)? |

Schipol is easy. You should be fine if your inbound flight is on time. Unlike elaydin, I think Frankfurt can be pretty bad, especially when connecting on Lufthansa. That airport is a fricking maze. Between deplaning a 747 on stairs the bus, walking down random corridors, and the numerous sets of stairs, all before passport control, it's a pain. Munich is much easier for connections. |
