- Arizona had the same position in both pre- and post-season polls.
- UK started #1 and finished #2. Pretty good.
- ohio state took the biggest tumble from the preseason top 10, finishing outside the top 25 (#30 based on "others receiving votes")
- Duke (-12) and 'Cuse (-10) were next, tumbling into the high teens.
- Michigan (+3) and Florida (+5) were the only preseason top 10 teams to improve their positions in the final poll.
- UConn (+18), Wisconsin (+17) and Virginia (+15) made the largest leaps into the top 10
- Villanova (+27) and Iowa State (+32) made the largest leaps overall, going from the tail end of others to solidly in the top 15
- In the Big Ten (footprint), notre dame and Indiana went from ranked to not even receiving votes (or NIT bids - zing!)

Storming the President's house was after slaughtering PSU in Happy Valley. The tree the guy fell out of was actually on the sidewalk in front of the house, so not actually on the grounds.
|13 hours 58 min ago||Do you remember the parade||
Do you remember the parade that basically went from Crisler (I think) through downtown Ann Arbor and up Liberty? That was pretty awesome.
Also, the post-osu celebration was pretty wild that year. South U was insane, until that guy fell like 25' out of the tree in front of the President's house.

Read about this a few days ago. I'm interested and will download to my iPad one of these days. I travel almost every week and have been to Europe 3 times this year, with at least 3-4 more Europe trips this year (the other 40 trips are domestic). Jet lag can be a killer. Some of my colleagues do the melatonin thing, although I don't. I just try to adjust sleep schedules in flight, use a sleep mask, and hot showers before bed.

Glad to see Kam Chatman rising in the ranks, but man... Duke and UK both have four 5 stars?? and UNC with 3, and KU, osu and UNLV (!) with 2 each. I be like dang.

Can't forget Flyin' Brian Pillman and Lex Luger. Believe both those guys also played in the NFL.
|1 week 1 day ago||that's true, of course||
But I was reacting to the previous post. My point is that just because the Final Four is in Indy next year does not mean an automatic home court advantage, should Michigan make it.

It's Appalachian State's first season in I-A. Incidentally, they just unveiled their new unis today.
|1 week 1 day ago||Home court||
You'd think Indy would've been home court for Michigan in the regionals this time around, but Kentucky fans DOMINATED that stadium. Easily a 3:1 ratio of UK:UM fans.
Anyway, how do they select the locations? It's been a while since they've been in Chicago (where I now live). It looks like they prefer domed NFL stadiums; United Center only holds about 20k, so they'd probably only do the opening rounds there.

Then you obviously have never been a father to a child. And I'm not just talking about providing a semen donation resulting in the formation of a baby.

I remember doing ultimate warrior-style maize and blue face paint once. It was awesome.

Glad you noticed that. I purposely left it in there as I thought it was appropriate for both Crean and notre dame.

you can't blame us. We didn't start the fire. And that fire down below in Lexington looks pretty serious. Let this be a lesson to you college kids - don't play with fire. Seriously, though, how do we sit when our couches are burning? I don't know, man...

Basically, the law is currently written such that only state universities within Illinois, or private universities within Illinois or contiguous states, can have a university vanity plate. As noted in the 2nd link provided, this is known as the "notre dame law" and was pushed through by nd alum michael madigan.

UK has had its moments, although mostly infamous:
Levi Strauss couldn't have done it any better (or worse)
Not much better...
|1 week 3 days ago||if you actually read his disclaimers||
he says that he's ranking them by who he thinks would perform better if put on the floor in an NBA game today. By that measure, he thinks Stauskas is the best at the position *right now*. Maybe he doesn't have the ceiling or potential of the other guys, but that's not what he's comparing.
|1 week 3 days ago||I like Kentucky||
I hate Calipari. Ergo, Go Huskies!
I'll echo some comments above. The fact is that the Fab Five had a CULTURAL impact. This was the true differentiator of that team, not just that they were five freshman starters (although that in itself was also unique) that made two national championship games in a row.
Good for those UK kids. They're uber-talented and having a great run. But they aren't, and never will be, on the level of the Fab Five.

that column in response to the AD's comments seems to reinforce her position. It went from comments stating that the paper exists to dig up dirt and print provocative and salacious headlines, to a misguided interpretation that she wants everyone there to lose their jobs.
In my (probably mostly uninformed) opinion, traditional media outlets seem to be doing their damn best to stay "relevant" by trending more toward National Enquirer territory. For all the "old school" journos who once decried the "voracity" of bloggers and such, there are a dozen now trying to take advantage of every rumor and juicy tidbit some random person digs up. There are columnists who feel they can write anything - true or not - with impunity because, hey, it's just my opinion and not an actual news story.
The ethics of the reporting business have gotten very blurred and I think this is what Hermann was reacting to - not some made up wish for everyone to lose their jobs.

Definitely Jerod "Hot Rod" Ward. He came in as arguably the #1 player in the country and never met those lofty expectations, although partially due to injury.

and I can't believe I remember this, these photos were posted last year.
Still really cool to go back and look at again, though. That's some serious cash-money they've sunk into the place.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||I agree||
It'd be something like they conceived for this year, with a potential starting 5 of:
If Robinson goes, probably replace his name with Zak Irvin. If McGary goes, that would suck.

does it make me a bandwagon football fan if I only watch Michigan games and decide to skip out on watching a national championship game featuring 2 teams I don't care about? Or should I suffer through it because it's football dammit and I'm a real fan?
Same thing with basketball. I'm a MICHIGAN fan first. If it's convenient to watch other games that don't involve my team and I have nothing better to do, I'll watch it. If not, I won't. In the event Michigan made it to the finals, I was planning on changing my Monday evening flight to watch the game. As it is now, I'll stick with my current flight schedule and miss most, if not all, of the game. I guess I'm not a "true" fan, and I'm okay with that.
