|1 week 1 day ago||Although you've never had the||
Although you've never had the bells and whistles, I've found that even now-basic things like bluetooth are a gamechanger, particularly with all the new hands-free laws. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you no longer need to separately pay for a navigation system.
You can get a really decked out Civic for well under $30k. You could also look at other compacts, like the Mazda3, Kia Forte, Hyundai Elantra, and VW Golf or Jetta.
If you want something a little bigger, you can get well-equipped cars like the Accord, Sonata, Optima, Fusion, Malibu, and Altima for under $30k and still have an average fuel economy around 30 mpg.
I've rented the Mazda3, Forte, Elantra, Optima, Sonata, Fusion, Focus, Malbu, and Optima (and probably more I'm forgetting) and have nothing bad to say about them. I also love that Bluetooth is pretty much standard on all the cars these days.
I also agree that safety is more or less a wash and it really comes down to personal preference in terms of how comfortable you feel in the car and price. Think also about how you're going to be using the car and make sure it fits those use cases. If you make frequent trips to home depot for sheets of plywood and 2x4s, maybe an SUV or wagon is a better bet than a sedan.

That's a LOT of cars. What about style? SUV/CUV, sedan, hatch/wagon, sporty? Do you do outdoor activities and want something that can accommodate a trailer hitch? AWD/4WD? Bells and whistles or plain jane? American/Japanese/Korean/European? Any brands you do NOT want?
Most cars can accommodate iPhones now. Some cars have Android Auto, which I would definitely go for if you have an Android phone. Bluetooth is pretty standard.
|1 week 1 day ago||I have an '03 I35||
It's actually been pretty good and no issues with PS or tranny leaks. Do have some minor oil leaks, although I think that was bad gaskets by oil filter and/or drain plug. Replaced it all and now good.
The thing I hate about my I35 (and all Nissans of this vintage, apparently) is that the exhaust system is apparently completely uncoated/treated, so i've had the following completely rust through within the last 9 years we've lived in IL: both exhaust flanges (A-B and B-C), exhaust hangars, and brackets.
This has resulted in the pipes hanging low and hitting the crossmembers and other random things under there. I've hacked up a fix, which was to strap on a piece of member on the crossmember secured with large hose clamps to support the exhause pipe. It works, but still annoying. My wife took it to the dealer when I was out of town and they saw it and said, "Great idea - definitely cheaper than replacing all the brackets/hangers and it gets the job done." They undid it to check out the exhaust system, then put it back :)

|4 weeks 1 day ago||It's the coaches, for the most part||
Fulmer was a solid coach. UT made a mistake getting rid of him.
Auburn - Chizik got lucky, as it was mostly Cam Newton which won the natty, not Chizik.
Florida - Urban
Alabama - Saban
LSU - Miles
So we have 4 really good to great coaches + Chizik.
They've had the best coaches during that time. I'd argue that only Larry Coker (Miami) and Gene Chizik (Auburn) were the only mediocre coaches who won, and that was largely due to a ridiculous stockpile of talent (Coker) or one generational talent (Chizik + Newton).
Otherwise, you have Fisher, Bowden, Stoops, Tressel, Brown, Carroll as winners. That's a great coaching lineup. All able to recruit AND coach. Proximity to talent certainly doesn't hurt, though, which is why none of those teams is in a talent-poor state (aside from UO, but they're adjacent to TX and get a lot of players from there).

Do it for both leagues or don't do it for both leagues. Although it is pretty hilarious watching AL pitchers trying to hit during interleague away games. It's like many of them have forgotten how to hold a bat.
EDIT: agree on above about how much time it takes between pitches. It's absurd. Seriously, man, you don't have to step out of the batter's box and adjust your helmet/gloves/cup/whatever after every single pitch. And pitchers need to stop grabbing the rosin bag and adjusting the cap/glove, rubbing the (base)ball, and taking a walk around the mound between every pitch. This stuff is just stupid and annoying.

I think you're misreading this. It looks like there is a "standard" season ticket package which includes all home games and is sold out, and this so-called "6 game mini-plan" excluding the Michigan game. Basically, season ticket renewals were super popular, there are a ton of "internal commitments" (special events, hospitality, recruiting) for the UM game, and now they don't have enough to include with all new season ticket sales. Can you imagine the uproar of only the first few thousand got the Michigan game and everyone else didn't?
Complete seven-game Michigan State football season-ticket packages have sold out for the upcoming season before they go on sale to the general public.
Any new season tickets purchased this year won’t include the Michigan game on Oct. 29. This is due to high demand for additional season tickets from current season-ticket holders and the size of the standard allotment given to the Wolverines.
(ED: also Hollis is TOTALLY channeling Dave Brandon here) “There’s been an opportunity to buy season tickets, really forever, and individuals that wait, this is kind of what happens,” Hollis said.

"Talk about something you don’t see every day.
irby Smart made a big splash when he choppered onto the baseball field at Atlanta’s Maynard Jackson High School in his now-well-known yellow helicopter so he could attend the first satellite football camp in the history of the state of Georgia on Thursday. But make no mistake about it, it was Jim Harbaugh’s and Michigan’s show.
oday was an especially exciting day for athletes and sports fans attending the Next Level Elite Football camp at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta.
In addition to gaining valuable skills, campers were able to make the acquaintance of Jim Harbuagh, the head coach of Michigan's acclaimed football program.

What is he even talking about? These satellite camps are not run by some random 3rd parties. They're run by high schools and colleges. I'd be willing to bet every college would bring at least 1 compliance person to the party to make sure it's all on the up-and-up.
And is he talking about third parties putting on the camps (in which case, it probably wouldn't pass compliance muster and you won't have college coaching staffs participating) or third parties "representing" kids and, I don't know, driving them to the camps and having conversations with coaches?
I'm glad he has a strong position, although I'm not entirely sure what that position is.

Don't really see the value in getting a so-called luxury marque these days, with how advanced even "regular" makes have gotten. It also helps to travel and rent cars very frequently, as I've done quite a bit of "test driving".
What I would love - another sports car.
What I would hate - a big lunky SUV or compromise CUV
What I'll probably end up with - another station wagon of some sort (of which there aren't many anymore, so probably an Outback)
As a sidenote, the VW was surprisingly trouble-free. The MR2 and Accord were pretty bullet-proof. The I35 engine and chassis are great, but the exhaust is junk - support brackets and A-B and B-C flanges completely rusted through. The T-bird was a floaty barge with terrible sightlines and had no redeeming qualities, aside from the fact it was a tank when I got t-boned by the lady who mistakenly slammed the gas instead of the brakes.

striped rugby shirts. That takes me back. I had a Korean knock-off Coca-Cola rugby shirt.
And docksiders. Vuarnet and Rayban were the "in" shades
I used to wear Jams until about 1987
Then I got mature and went with Z Cavaricci (or similar Bugle Boy knock-offs from Uptons or Mervyn's because, let's face it, I wasn't going to get my mom to buy me Cavariccis from Chess King). Or Girbauds, for that matter.
And non-baggy cargo pants, I remember those (also Bugle Boys)
And beach-related wear was cool, too. PCH, OP, Red Sand, Body Glove...
And other brands like Esprit, Genera, Benneton... and don't you touch my Members Only jacket.

I don't think either of the previous posters commenting on this particular topic care about his academic achievements. Rather, they are pointing out that Cardale Jones saw college as a means to an end (NFL), and classes as a necessary evil. It is entirely possible he didn't care one whit about learning anything other than his playbook and only went to classes and got by so he could retain his eligibility.
And this is in no way an arrogant statement about how Michigan is so much better than osu in every way (although it is). Obviously, there were kids on our football team (or other sports teams, or even just regular students) who were just at college because they had to be and didn't care about class.

I work out 3-4 times a week. consists of weights, flying days between the machines and de weights at the gym, and then some form of cardio. usually a treadmill, although getting nice enough to run outside again; I mix in some stairs, bike, and swimming, although I'm terrible at swimming.
I sprained my middle finger though so it's been painful to lift. I'm taking it easy and trying to do things that don't put pressure on it, like push-ups, ab/core, legs, fly machine, etc. getting older and stuff just takes forever to heal completely, if at all.
I do eat poorly when I travel for business, but at home, my wife tends to cook low salt, low sugar, low fat, tons of veggies and lean protein, including a lot of fish. Also, Korean food tends to be healthy anyway.

What if they don't "conduct" the camps, but just participate as guests? And they aren't employed, but are just given an honorarium and expense reimbursement? Can't they still tour the country and show up at other high school and college camps to speak/coach? I'm not lawyer or anything, but I have to imagine that there is a distinction between "employed" and volunteer receiving an honorarium.

|20 weeks 5 days ago||I like the CBS sports||
I like the CBS sports headline: SEC wins again, NCAA bans satellite camps
The reason the SEC fought so hard to prevent satellite camps was to maintain their natural recruiting advantage that comes from their geography. SEC schools are already in the most fertile recruiting area in the nation, so they don't need satellite camps to expand their footprint to those areas. This rule ensures that SEC, and ACC, coaches keep that advantage and get the most opportunities to be in contact with top recruits in the Southeast.
And in the SEC fan reaction (verbatim quotes):
NCAA didn't want the SEC coaches setting up shop in the backyard of the B10 schools. The best recruiters in the country having free reign? No way.
If Harbaugh or any other coach can't get recruits to come to their school for camps, they don't have it as coaches. You can't use loopholes and get to the top. (ed: Ironic since Saban did the EXACT SAME THING with the bump rule)
It can't be legal for colleges to pay high schools or their employees for any reason. Makes it too easy to pay them to steer recruits to your school. (ed: Um, what?)

Wow, really? That's a huge hit to lose good ol' Mary Markley.
I was in Markley freshman year as an engineering major. Because I had classes on central and north campuses, I would ride my bike everywhere when the weather wasn't terrible. Helps that there were other bus stops and I could take shortcuts and didn't always obey traffic signals...

|21 weeks 1 day ago||Not yet. I'd have to drive||
Not yet. I'd have to drive WAY more to justify it. Right now, my daily roundtrip commute when I go to the office is <9 miles. Of course, I also travel quite a bit and take a taxi to the airport. If I were to do my oil changes every 3,000 miles, it'd probably be 1 oil change per year.
On the quicker charging time, I know one poster is being facetious about charging in 2 minutes (particularly given that even the most advanced smartphones on the market today can't even do that), but how long are we talking for a full charge?
My biggest reservation with a full electric vehicle right now is the range and running out of charge somewhere without nearby access to a charging station.

is that we get pretty much everyone back who played significant minutes, with the exception of Ricky Doyle. With the young bigs coming in and a year of maturing for both Donnal and Wagner, we should be okay there. This team should be at least 2-3 games better than last season and make the tourney more comfortably. Now they just need to quit scheduling RPI anchor opponents...

I don't really follow college hockey and admit that I'm a post-season watcher (and even then, generally only if UM is in the Frozen Four).
Will you have a follow-up at some point ranking the candidates by preference and why, as well as how realistic you think they may be?
I read the comment in Part 1 (I think) that the PSU coach would be a home run hire, but that it'd be nigh impossible to get him away from the Nits. I'd love to get your thoughts, and those of other knowledgeable hockey folks (although I'm sure Brian will have plenty on this at some point, also).

|25 weeks 1 day ago||The scariest incident was||
The scariest incident was probably the most recent. I was driving home from dinner with the family - wife and kids following right behind me. I was going about 50 in a 45. As I was approaching a side street, a car slowly approached and looked like it was slowing to a stop, but then suddenly pulled out right in front of me. Slammed on the brakes as hard as I've ever done and somehow managed to honk my horn while steering around that car. According to my wife, the car was still moving as I was going around it and she actually thought my car was clipped. That was scary and very glad my kids weren't with me. Fortunately, I just reacted instead of thinking about it, as a second of hesitation would've meant a fairly serious collision.
And in what should have been scarier, had I realized what was happening... My sister and I were in high school and she was driving us home from school. All of a sudden, we felt a crash and the car spun. A lady who had just moved to the US and had a driver's license for all of 2 weeks was coming out of a shopping center and slammed the gas instead of the brakes, t-boning our car just behind the passenger door. Fortunately, it was a tank (87 Ford Thunderbird) and we had our seatbelts on, but the lady panicked b/c she didn't speak English, so she left the scene. She later returned with her husband to interpret. Our car was a total loss since we spun and slammed into the curb, destroying both axles and suspension. Also suffered frame damage. Definitely scary upon reflection.
