Any faith in any offensive…

Any faith in any offensive player outside of Edwards and Loveland is blind faith at this point, they're the only two proven players left on that side of the ball.  So unless you're saying the same thing about every other guy expected to step up at this point, seems a little silly to only single out the QB's.

They were all behind NFL guys, and the coaches have expressed optimism in every position group having guys ready to step up, but none of them have done it as starters.  So, you either trust the coaches to get them prepared and put them in position to win games with their skill sets or you don't.

David Terrell.  Great size,…

David Terrell.  Great size, speed and length, and so dominant at Michigan, not sure what happened with him in the NFL.

Michigan will probably be…

Michigan will probably be able to shove UNLV around on the ground, but if the Rebels ramp up their blitzes even more and try to tee off in the run game, I saw almost nothing to suggest JJ McCarthy will have trouble ruthlessly punishing them through the air. Their zone coverage is incredibly soft, with glaring busts and wide open checkdown options and scrambling opportunities should be there as well if JJ wants them.

i believe him, yo i don't know why, but i do - half baked - quickmeme

Kathleen Kennedy isn't a guy…

Kathleen Kennedy isn't a guy, and even though she's been totally fucking up for Disney/Star Wars, seems to have total immunity to continue doing so.

Yeah, not sure how anyone…

Yeah, not sure how anyone can take Denzel seriously in this role after how well Queen Latifah has owned it on the TV series.

Though not a movie, Queen…

Though not a movie, Queen Latifah as the Equalizer would like a word.

Joe Milton also exists as a…

Joe Milton also exists as a more recent example.

I get why people think JJ's ceiling is higher than Cade's, and therefore why fans would like for him to win the job, I don't get why those same people don't think Cade can improve and help the team achieve it's goals considering how well he played as a 1st year starter last season.

I mean, if JJ is as good as they think he is, and Cade's still beating him out for the job, doesn't that also say something about the job Cade is doing?  Or do they think Harbaugh, the ultimate competitor, will play the guy who gives his team a worse chance to win?

Zinter's wrist injury, but…

Zinter's wrist injury, but otherwise not too much.

Hope for a repeat and good health.

It's difficult to say that…

It's difficult to say that the political baggage is outsized when you acknowledge in your post that he's not good enough to outweigh the controversy he brings.

That doesn't even consider the fact that he essentially sabotaged his own 'comeback' as he had a scheduled training session specifically set up for him, and he basically ghosted it, then continued to complain that he was being black balled.

He scored a huge contract with Nike as a result, so maybe it was all just a ploy to get paid, but he's controversial largely because he's made himself so, so it isn't surprising that NFL teams don't want to bring him in as a back up and have to deal with all the BS that would come along with it.

All that said, Harbaugh can and will do what he wants, he had a similar situation when he chose to show the team American Sniper and a bunch of students and alumni whined about it(this would have been a much better comparison rather than George Jewett, IMO).  Harbaugh didn't care then, and he doesn't seem to care now, and as long as the team isn't negatively effected, as a fan, I really couldn't care less.

Wasn't meant to imply that I…

Wasn't meant to imply that I thought you were down on Clingan.  I was just saying that I get where you're coming from by moving Lively ahead of Clingan as a prospect on your board, but that I still prefer Clingan over Lively to UM if given the choice because I fee like both will be extremely productive college players and Clingan is almost certainly going to be in college longer than Lively will be.

It really is like choosing between a Jaren Jackson type vs a Hunter Dickinson type(that assumes Jackson would have been used properly in his one year of college).  Both were/are great college players, but I'd take two or three years of Hunter vs one year of Jackson any day of the week, even though Hunter clearly doesn't have the NBA upside of Jackson.

I know Matt's preference is…

I know Matt's preference is based on game and potential, and it's understandable that Lively has moved ahead of Clingan if that's your consideration.

I think I'd still prefer Clingan because he's almost guaranteed to be a monster in Howard's system, and you're more likely to get more college production out of him, IMO, because quite frankly, he'll be around longer.

If Lively keeps progressing at his current rate, he's a one and done, he's your prototypical NBA big, Clingan is at least a 2 or 3 yr guy in college, and that's better for Michigan.

Would obviously love to have either one, but if I think both will be about equally productive, and I have to choose, I want the guy who's going to be at UM longer.

Gould would be great, very…

Gould would be great, very versatile as well, he was a 'near lock' when Zordich was on staff, but with Zordich gone have no idea how that's going and haven't heard anything on his recruitment since then.

Have heard that things are really picking up with Johnson over the past week or two, and Michigan is starting to look like a clear favorite, which is nice...

Add those guys to Jones and Groves, add Tatum and flip Jackson and that's a heck of a DB haul if they can make it happen.

Found out Pollard was Colson's HS teammate, but still not sure why he was mentioned in this write up as being deterred by the addition of Jones, or where he'd sit on UM's board with all these other guys other than being another prospect from Tennessee.

"One cornerback in the class…

"One cornerback in the class is not going to influence Pollard, let alone 5* in-state legacy Will Johnson, 5* USC commit Domani Jackson, 4* NJ CB/S prospect Jaeden Gould, or West Bloomfield 4* RB/CB Dillon Tatum"

I know all the others, who is Pollard?  With so many new offers going out with the new staff coming in, I can't recall who that is.

(No subject)

Yes, but that's a to date…

Yes, but that's a to date season number, and UM's defense earlier in the year wasn't close to this good(complaints about getting lost, missed switches on defense and giving up way to many good looks from 3).  They've cleaned up a lot of their mental mistakes, and stepped it up considerably over the past few weeks, and combined with their excellent offense have really started to dominate teams.

Michigan seems to be playing at such a high level right now, It's gotten so bad that I really start to question how good the opponent can actually be if they're getting beaten so badly.  Would be interesting to see how much of an anomaly these opponent performances are compared to the rest of their schedules because M has just been putting a beating on the last 4 opponents(I count Nebraska due to the unusual amount of circus shots they had to make to keep the game close).

McKennie has been on…

McKennie has been on somewhat of a hotstreak himself, and is playing a ton of minutes for a pretty good side in Schalke, why do you think he needs a change of scenery?

Agree on Sargent, he's a promising striker but Bremen is a terrible club and he gets next to no service there, would be good if he could go to a club that he could get more consistent minutes and doesn't give the ball away every time they manage to actually get possession.

Adams is another who's a very exciting prospect but doesn't seem to get talked about as much.  Assuming Berhalter pulls his head out of his ass and plays him in his natural CDM role, he was grading out extremely well in the Bundesliga before having a bunch of his own injury issues this year.

Surprised you didn't include…

Surprised you didn't include the Bufkin(sp?) kid out of GR, wasn't he recently offered?  He's definitely a SG, do you just think they don't have a good shot at him?

TIA

The vast majority of NBA…

The vast majority of NBA players are pampered, entitled, egotistical a-holes, so it's no surprise that a control freak like Beilien would have personality issues with them.

I loved Beilein as a coach here but it was no secret that he tried to manage every little detail of the program, and that was predictably going to be a rough transition when applied to the NBA.  The stars have run that league for a long time, and coaches without a record of professional success are going to have a difficult time coming in and commanding the respect of them.

He'd have been a good fit as a replacement for someone like Popovich and the Spurs, or under Pat Riley with the Heat, teams with an already established culture of extreme detail, but not a place like Cleveland, which has been a shitshow since Gilbert bought it.

Has Jussie Smollett been to…

Has Jussie Smollett been to UMHS lately?

Because, regardless of…

Because, regardless of location, Maryland's yearly schedule includes games against Michigan, OSU, PSU and msu, while Purdue plays Wiscy, Nebraska, Iowa and Northwestern.

Which side do you want to compete against if you're goal is to win as many games as possible?

More likely he's realizing that he went for...

style(recruit rankings and HYPE) over substance once again.  DeJulius is on another level from Loyer as a player, and that's not likely to change going forward.  They are somewhat close skill wise now, they both play with a high bball IQ, but by all accounts, DDJ is bigger, stronger, and a better athlete than Foster is or is going to be.

4th quarter was a good indicator of that, there wasn't anyone on Clarkston's team who could slow down DDJ once he got going, while on the other end, DDJ was able completely shut down Loyer when matched up with him defensively.  That says something about something.

So, basically the same kind of person who sends...

a death threat, or any other number of despicable comments, towards Wilton Speight after having a rough game against Florida.

People need to get a grip.

Start getting heated, then...

because Michigan doesn't seem to give a crap about Dobbs recruitment, despite the fact that he's a (supposedly)5* talent in their own backyard.

Barring a complete 180 on Michigan's part in their pursuit of him, and even then they'd be playing from behind, Dobbs isn't coming to UM.

Doesn't it prove something to you...

that literally EVERYONE who covers recruiting has said that UM needs to pick it up soon(and they've been saying this since the spring, it seems) if they want to stay in the race for Dobbs, and yet everytime Dobbs is interviewed he says that Michigan isn't recruiting him hard?  To me it says they're not all that interested, regardless of how many stars he has next to his name on a recruiting site.

Doesn't it say something that people who've seen Dobbs either play for his HS team or have seen him in camps have said that he doesn't stand out when watching him in games and he's been getting regularly beat in camps?

Harbaugh has put a ton of effort into any guy he really wants since he's been at Michigan, yet he's spending next to nothing on Dobbs, and that says something as well.

All this hand wringing over 1 guy and it would be an upset if Michigan doesn't end up with an OL haul in '19 that includes at the very least Nolan Rumler, Logan Brown and Trevor Keegan, with a not unlikely chance that they only take 3 OL in a smaller class numbers wise.

Seems like a waste of energy on your part, but have at it.

Unless they have the Dragons reigning chaos...

from the sky, the Dothraki would get slaughtered by a disciplined army with armor, so it should be interesting to see how it gets sorted out.  One thing is for certain, Cersei and Jaimie are scooping up prime territory and money(the Tyrells were the richest family in Westoros since the Lannister mines dried up), so they've got the gold to buy the army they need now.

And, it also looks like Dany does in fact NEED Jon Snow now that the vast majority of her army is either cut off or slaughtered, so he's finally got some leverage.

And then you have Littlefinger, who's in charge of arguably the best troops left in Westeros in the Knights of the Vale, and he made it clear in his speech to Sansa that he's sees everyone as an enemy and friend(depending on what he wants), and plays out every scenario possible in his head all the time.  With power shifting back to the Lannisters, it will be interesting to see if he flips his allegiance once again.

She's 10 yrs old when she meets Dany in the books...

it's one of the bad casting gone good for the show producers, as this Missandei is very nice to look at, still think it's stupid they did it so they could have her have a romantic relationship with a Eunich.

Getting his butt kicked and having to deal with Kawhii Leonard..

probably had something to do with it, and that's another point in favor of adding someone like Paul to take the pressure of having to create everything off of Harden.  If he isn't having a good game, or, in the case of San Antonio, they have a great individual defender matched up on him, they can just shift the responsibilities over more toward Paul and not have much of a drop off.

The only other guy on the team who could reasonably create was Lou Williams, but he only creates for himself.  Eric Gordon is a nice complementary offensive player, but you can't run the offense through him.

A team with Paul, Gordon, Harden, Ariza and Capela is a pretty strong starting 5, they should be an iteresting team to watch next year.

Harden clearly wore down at points near the end of the season...

last year, and the fact that he had to facilitate nearly everything for the Rockets on offense clearly had a lot to do with it.  Bringing in someone like Paul solves a lot of those issues, as they can now share those responsibilities.  And the fact that both are good shooters off the ball, and the rest of the roster is basically set up to play off of a playmaker, should help them out a lot, IMO.

Still don't think they're good enough to give the Warriors a serious run, yet, so they'll still have to make a move or two more to put them into serious contention, but it's a good start.

Looks like a good addition...

is he more or less likely to be the 10th coach than Scott Turner?  Or is Turner just a 1 season rental before he goes and looks for another NFL job?

Cot dam, that's impressive, if true...

Henry managed to impregnate at least four sets of women at the same time, and then they co-birthed the children.  That's hard work.

"He is one of Travis Henry's 19 children by 23 different women."

I'd like to see them bring back Tuioti to work with Mattison...

not only would it give them a lead in to evaluate a guy up close to eventually replace him, but they'd also get back Tuioti's Poly ties on the recruiting front.

Win-Win

Nice...

There's a Partridge in a Peach tree...

he certainly knows how to adapt his recruiting.  Georgia coach oughta be taking notes.

10 is for people who are okay with doing the bare minimum...

He's a scared of Michigan's depth chart at corner...

though that's hyperbole, according to those close to him, he's very aware of the player's Michigan's brought in at corner in the two classes ahead of him, and he's been leaning elsewhere for a while.

Not sure ND is a great pick for him, unless he just really likes the school, as Kelly might have a difficult time keeping his job barring a big turnaround from last season's disaster.

Yeah, according to MTV's enlightening new commercial..

it's racist for a white guy to say they are 'woke', and MTV is run by smart, reasonable people, so you know it's the truth.

Everything IS Awesome...

Shout it out!

He's probably just high...

according to reports, that is, looks like mama's concerns with him at MSU have come to pass.

If you want to give Hoke credit for...

identifying, recruiting, and for the most part developing a lot of the Defensive talent currently on the roster, I think that's perfectly fair, though to argue that Harbaugh and his staff hasn't taken them to a new level would be absolutely absurd.

OTOH, I think it's equally absurd, with the benefit of hindsight, that Hoke and his staff aren't the main reason for the problems with the players on the offensive side of the ball, even if there were a few outliers(Glasgow, Cole, Butt).  Given the performance of that unit and those players under Hoke vs their performance under Harbaugh in fact gives clear evidence that Hoke and his staff were clueless about teaching and developing the talent they had on hand.

Where there are incremental jumps in the defensive performance, there are night and day differences in the offensive performance and output, and I think you're being far too forgiving in saying that Hoke WASN'T the main reason for the underperformance of those players.

Taysom Hill was also just named the starter...

after he had been rotating with Mangum(I think, can't recall his name atm), Hill is the kind of QB and BYU has the type of offense that would give even a good MSU defense trouble, and this MSU defense isn't really all that good, and are even worse with McDowell out for a half.

Combined with the fact that MSU's offense has been average, at best, and this is definitely a game BYU could come in and win, and then the schadenfreude would be phenomenal.

That's funny, other college sports have been doing satellite...

camps for years, Lacrosse, Volleyball, not to mention the psuedo satellite camps that are AAU for bball, but Harbaugh comes along and does it with college football and a bunch of pansies get their panties in a bunch because he's doing too many camps, and they don't want to do that much themselves, so instead of trying to work harder and keep up, they try and force the NCAA to regulate how hard Harbaugh can work.

What a bunch of crap, and your coach comes across as the pitiful loser he is once again.  Hey Franklin, get better at your job, and maybe next time you won't be embarrassed by Harbaugh, instead of whining about how hard Harbaugh works and trying to get someone else to slow him down for you.

They need a vision board, then all their wishes...

will come true.

His answer to the question about Franklin, and having worked...

with him in the past was interesting.  He instead wanted to talk about Moorhead, the new OC, have heard that Brown and Franklin didn't exactly like eachother, and of course, that seems to be Franklins reputation, maybe Brown's wife wasn't hot enough for him.

Foster Sarrell has also said he's likely...

to OV to Michigan, along with Chuck Filiaga, two very highly rated OL from Washington and Texas.  Looks like Michigan is working their butts off on the OL recruiting front to make sure they bring in a great class, and I'd be shocked if they didn't succeed on that front with all the guys they're highly involved with/already have committed.

Nice...

My guess is they finish up with...

Kyle Young and Nojel Eastern.  Or maybe that's more of a hope, but Michigan seems to be in pretty good shape with both, and they'd be the perfect complements to Poole and Matthew's(who's essentially a 2017 recruit as far as eligibility) to fill out the class.

So, just so we're clear...

when Marvin Wilson said there was a great chance he would go to UM, and then 3 days later left UM out of his top 10, the narrative was that Rivals sucked and was misleading us all with sensational headlines.

Not even a week later, Allen Trieu runs an article saying that Willie Gay Loves UM, and 4 days later, Gay commits to Ole Miss.  Does this mean that Scout sucks and is misleading us with sensational headlines now too?  Just wanted to check, or if that logic only applied to Rivals.

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wol…

FTR, I'm still of the opinion that this is just another example of 'crootin, but there were a few people who were adamant that Rivals actual intent was to mislead us and as such sucked at recruiting info, yet I don't see them yet in this thread bashing Scout for essentially doing the same thing after a very similar situation.

Johnson is a workout warrior...

he earned tons of praise last summer for his camp performances, yet when watching him against Peters in their game last year, Peters was the superior player.

I'll take the guy that Harbaugh prioritizes, and from all the chatter I could gather, Peters was 1b to KJ Costello, and Harbaugh had a chance to pursue Eason late(after Richt was fired), but didn't do it so as not to upset the applecart with Peters.

And he also prioritized McCaffrey in the 2017 class.  Johnson was committed to Tennessee and now Clemson, but Harbaugh hasn't let that stop him from pursuing other prospects that he really wants.

Looks like Harbaugh is landing who he really wants to land at the QB spot, and his evaluations are a heck of a lot more valuable than a recruiting site.

But Ecuador also plays their home games...

at something like 9,700 ft abover sea level, IIRC, so they get a similar home field advantage to Mexico when they play at Azteca.  So, while there is certainly an advantage to playing on home soil, it's not usually as distorted as Ecuador's record would indicate it would be.
