Actually, Pomeroy basketball…

Actually, Pomeroy basketball ratings move us from #66 up to #52 after yesterday's game! So that is a positive...

Question: When will the…

Question: When will the Detroit Lion's fans enjoy professional football again? The last NFL championship was 65 years ago in 1957 and they have won just ONE playoff game since then in 1991!

I wonder if the psychology…

I wonder if the psychology of knowing that if they won this game, that they would be playing the 'GOAT', i.e., Gonzaga. This could be known as a 'trap game'. They probably did not respect UCLA enough and their mind was not where it should have been for this game. How can everyone have an off night? Maybe, Juwan should add a psychologist to the staff to get the players in the right frame of mind before games.

Let me reiterate how huge it…

Let me reiterate how huge it is how Austin Davis from little Onsted Michigan has stepped up his game such that when he spells Teske (and Teske often gets into foul trouble), there is almost no drop off of play from our bigs. It reminds me how Teske developed last year so that he was a dynamo when the tournament came around. And also kudos to Brian Johns who has developed into a key piece while Livers was out. All of these improvements bodes well for the team.

I continually am amazed at…

I continually am amazed at the negativity of the posters on this board. So many 'supposed' fans of Michigan continually bad mouth our talented coaches or players...as if they are smarter than the brain trust of coaches we have running the team. I suggest that if you are not happy with the way that Michigan plays football, that you go find a different successful team to support...such as Alabama, Clemson, or 'that team down south'...a team that you can be happy with.

Overland Park Blue Valley is…

Overland Park Blue Valley is in KS, not MI.

Same thinking here...since…

Same thinking here...since this blog is currently talking about football, I thought the 'SEC' was SEC football conference...and what does the SEC conference have to do with Elon Musk?

With the new format, I can’t…

With the new format, I can’t log in on my iPhone or iPad.

Team of destiny I was at my Holland (MI) grandson ‘s birthday party with my wife with all relatives Michigan State fans. I was watching the game alone because everyone else was in bed after midnight. I was texting back and forth with my basketball buddy on the other side of the state. After M fouled Houston with them leading by 2 with 3.8 seconds left, and the game ‘was hopeless’, I actually texted him (sort of kidding) “Let’s see if this is a team of destiny “. Then the 2 missed free throws and Jordan Poole’s shot, what a great feeling! This is a team of destiny!

bad bad loss

The 'milk the clock' scheme after they got up by 16 in the middle of the last quarter took the fire out of the team. They became less aggressive on offense and made bad passes that led to 4 really bad turnovers, after which Purdue scored either a 2 or a 3. On the other hand, Purdue played lock down defense after the M girls got their big lead, so, in a way, they deserved it. And the same as having Simmons in the line-up at the end of the men's games when good free throw shooting is needed, the person fouled who could have won the game threw up two clunkers, and that may have set the tone for losing in overtime.

Sixt car rental

We were asked to go to Orlando for Spring Break with grandkids and family, the last time for my 10 yr old granddaughter to be young enough to enjoy the princesses at Disney. Anyway, rentals at the Orlando airport are not cheap, but found Sixt rent-a-car about $100 cheaper than the rest. I had rented from Sixt (a German company) in Europe so knew they were reputable. Since my wife and I would rent our own car, I selected the Toyota Corolla class on their website to save money. Upon arrival at Sixt, they pulled up a Mercedes for me to drive. Never have driven a Mercedes, I didn't know how to drive it. They gave me an ignition key that had a stub on it, no insertion into an ignition slot. Once inside of the car, I found that you simply depress the brake pedal and push a button on the dash board to start the car. The shift lever was also strange, no sequential movement of the lever, simply push it up for rear, push down for D1 and to put into park, push a button on the end of the lever. Anyway, the black Mercedes turned out to be an enjoyable car to drive. The Mercedes must be a common rental at Sixt because when I returned the car, another Mercedes was being returned in front of me. Meanwhile, my daughters family of five received a Dodge Town and Country, sport series, which they enjoyed.

My reaction

My reaction to this thread: DELETE

Dawkins substitution at the end

Some posters above are calling out Beilein as a stupid coach for inserting Dawkins (poor defense!) in the game with 20 seconds left and a 8 point lead. BUT...Dawkins is one of the five best free throw shooters on a not very good free thow shooting team (can't believe that Irvin is only at 60%). At that point in the game the plan is 'no fouls' and 'make your free throws'. So the best defense is not needed. I can see why Dawkins was used at that point.

Harbaugh sleepover with recruit

Pretty funny! Harbaugh sleepover with Penn State recruit (top rated kiker) trying to flip him. He said we will watch a movie and I will sleep on a rug on the floor of your bedroom. Recruit says, "Yeah, but I have Penn State stuff pasted all over the walls in my room."  Harbaugh: "That's OK. I will help you take it all down."

I follow Xavier, too.

Although a huge Meechigan fan, I started following Xavier a few years ago when Brad Redford of Frankenmuth took his 3-point shooting show to Xavier. And then I had more interest when they recruited Jalen Reynolds out of Detroit and Edmond Sumner out of Detroit Country Day. Reynolds is now making an impact as a highly athletic dunking machine. Sumner red-shirted last year, his freshman year, but has grown 3 inches since high school and has been a very impressive as a 6'6" guard. So, hopefully it will be a competitive game.

Dallas Morning News perspective

Nice commentary from the Dallas Morning News...great PR for Harbaugh and Michigan!

Chris Kaman

Hopefully, ala Chris Kaman, he will go from a relatively unheralded star from a small hight school...to leading his team to a conference championship...and being a first round pick in the NBA draft. We can always dream...

Another star in the making...

...ala Chris Kaman???

[Quote] " Not all UNC Academics.... Just UNC Academics that fall into the Afro-American History Dept."

Isn't this a little prejudiced?

Kyle Whittingham

Kyle Whittingham of Utah  He would meet the character requirement and the on the field performance that's required.  He has had success at Utah beating some of the major powers.  HIs career record is 84-43 and he is 7-1 in bowls. However, he is a Mormon and supposedly he and his family love living in Utah. But who knows...

On sale...

Just got home from Meijer's.  Founder's Dirty Bastard on sale for $8.99/six pack. I will be tasting it.

Izzo

Izzo quoted in the State Journal: “Well, Keith Appling is a major problem right now,”

Can you imaging John Beilein hanging a player out to dry after a loss??? Seem like Izzo is losing it in some respects.  You watch him during a game and it is almost like he is a madman out of control.  And then he coaches by berating his players in the newspaper.  But I guess he has always done that...

Spiraling

This place used to be great but now a few individuals are causing it to spiral downhiill and out of control.

Just an fyi...

While UConn is bad-mouthed after losing to FCS Towson and then to Maryland, maybe they aren't as bad as advertised.  Towson is now 4-0, the same as Maryland, who is now ranked No. 28 in the polls.  I'm wondering: Did UConn just have a bad game against Towson, maybe overlooking them, to lose that game, and their loss to Maryland is not a bad loss?  When Michigan gives the opponent 4 critical turnovers in a game including a gimme touchdown to a fire them up on their home field, it is sometimes difficult to right the ship in mid-course of a game.  Fortunately they did enough to win the game.

Mine, too!

I haven't been able to get on for over 24 hours, until I just did a search for U of M Blogs and got this link: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard and was able to get on for the first time.  My old bookmarked mgoblog still gives "Welcome to nginx!".  I use Firefox. The new content that I now get has most of the usual stuff, but also includes lots of historical sticky things. I was going through withdrawal because of not getting mgoblog anymore!

Common sense

To clarify:  I didn't mean to imply that 'fanatical allegiance to Sparty' is common sense.  My wording came out wrong.  I'll restate it: He seems to have no common sense and the only thing he possess is a fanatical allegiance to Sparty.

His LinkedIn account

Douglas Ditmar's LinkedIn account give public information available to everyone, that he is a "sales agent for Keller Williams Real Estate in the Greater Grand Rapids area".  You would think that he wouldn't want to offend half (or three quarters) of the population with his tweets.  Pretty amazing that he would do that.  He must not have much common sense...other than a fanatical allegiance to Sparty.

Personable coaches

Regarding personable, or 'un-personable' coaches, it seems that Hoke and company have some magic 'sincerity' aura that they project when a prospect visits that clicks with the recruit in just the right way.  On the other hand, I was reading some of the comments re Peppers recruitment on the free Bucknuts board and found a comment that fits with my imprssion of the great Urban at tOhio. Some are starting to question 'what is wrong?' that they can't seal the deal in Columbus.  Example: "The only good thing about it is that he atleast went to a B1G school instead of any of the SEC schools and he will be taught how to lose at the very least 1 game a year. I would love to find out why he was such a heavy lean towards tOSU all the way until he visited c-bus. There is a trend that has been developing with kids who have shown a lot of interest but then completely change their mind after their visit. Someone is not doing something right because it should be the opposite outcome from a visit." I look at Urban Meyer and see an arrogant, pompous person (maybe unfairly, in my bias), but someone that I would have trouble trusting, unless I was an Ohio fan.

Lots of venom

Lots of venom in Irish country over this...

From Irish Envy:

One Bama fan's take:

"I’m not buying the lofty, monocle-wearing explanation from the South Bendovers that all of these players and recruits are bolting because they don’t measure-up to the academic upper-crust of that elitist **** hole. Are we to believe that all of a sudden, Brian “Spanky” Kelly realized that this many players came-up short of academic standards? So… no one on Kelly’s crack squad of Vatican assistant-commandos bothered to check whether their current and future players/signees were ****-all stupid gradewise the previous academic year? For shite’s sake, Teo was so ****ing stupid he couldn’t even keep his lies straight and HE (supposedly) qualified for 4 whole years of “Mongo no like cancer. Cancer take beloved Kahlua and grand maw-maw. Mango has a sad.”

Oh, and can we also count Kelly among those checking other options (looking to break camp) after the 2012 dream season?

There is something rotten (nay… fishy?) going on inside that program. Players aren’t digging it and if Spanky had such a profound love for that future meteor crater, he would not have been scheduling an interview in Philadelphia the day after the NCG."

Ever hear of...

Ever hear of a walk on named Jordan Kovacs...

Jeff Meyer/Beilein a geniuus

Freep article on Spike.  Jeff Meyer discovered Spike...but Beilein followed up to get Spike here.

Tongue in cheek??

I wonder if Sid Hartman's comment was tongue in cheek?  He doesn't like the AD Norman Teague, disagreed with the firing of Tubby, disagrees with hiring the young, new unexperienced Richard Pitino to replace Tubby.  He is noted, from his biograpy, of making outrageous comments to bring sense of humor to his sports radio program.  So maybe his comments are a way to sort of needle Norman Teague for his recent hirings???

Notre Dame tranfers

Kelly's view on players transferring out:  "This is a process every year we go through: You have some additions, you have some deletions," Kelly told the Chicago Tribune. "But we didn't miss a step."

So...nothing really important here.  Some stay, some leave, they're just numbers...

Where's Chantel?

Where's Chantel Jennings tweeting from? Her tweet say she's tweeting at 5:01pm today, yet mzerbib's post of her tweet was at 10:01 am.  Is she covering Pipkin's injury from Europe?

Honey Badger is out for good

LSU says dismissal is final.  He cannot return to the team under any circumstances.

Mark Snyder

Rosenberg's sidekick, Mark Snyder, is still at Freep and today is heaping praise on Rosenberg as he leaves.  He and Rosenberg sat side by side on TV interviews and Snyder was on the by-line to reinforce what Rosenberg spewed.  Somehow, I felt the Freep editors placed Snyder with Rosenberg on that 'scoop' just to try to make it credible...

Try this...

If you haven't seen this already try these:

Google: 'do a barrel roll'

Google: 'askew'

And at another school in the SEC...

RT UT FB team had GPA of 2.06 last fall, 1.9 among scholarship players. 30 players on academic probation.

University of Tennessee and Coach Derek Dooley are having their problems.  Not only all of the turmoil with assistant coaches leaving, team chemistry, star players transferring, but now this...

Band may be going...

Per Chengelis tweet: RT : Dave Brandon says "we're making progress" toward getting Michigan band to Texas for Bama game. "we're working on it"

#SendtheBand

The game could rival last year's Notre Dame/Michigan night game in it's spectacle.  It's the 1st week of the season, Alabama's first game following its National Championship, probably ESPN's Game Day telecast, resurgent Michigan ranked in the top 10, neutral site, prime time, national telecast, Alabama's rabid fans, Michigan's rabid fans, Alabama's Marching Band.  What's lacking?  #SendtheBand

NYT article

Just last Monday, the New York Times had an article on the rise in scientific journal retractions.  Apparently the pressure on professors in universities to produce publications, discoveries, and new information in order to survive is so competitive and intense that it has given rise to fabrication of data, or at least stretching the truth, in order to get promoted and tenured and to compete for diminishing funding from the federal government.  And the fewer numbers of jobs for the PhD's that are being produced make them cut corners to get publications in meaningful journals in order to compete for jobs.

My recollection

My recollection from my days in school (as we used to say it in class): Six point 023 times 10 to the 23rd, so the 23's were easy to remember.  But actually the value is:   6.0221415 × 1023

TZ

Trey Ziegler for all of his greatness, hasn't learned free throw shooting.  I saw him in a high school tournanment game and he was fouled repeatedly and never hit one free throw for the whole game.  This year, his sophomore season, his FT % was 49.5.  I've heard that he has had some interest from Duke???

A Xavier perspective on Holloway's punishment

Words speak louder than actions...an article regarding Holloway's 'taunting' actions during the game, and the media jumping on him for his choice of word "gangster" after the game.  How words can hurt you more than actions (since he never threw a punch during the brawl)...

http://www.examiner.com/xavier-musketeers-basketball-in-cincinnati/word…

What if?

What if Michigan and Michigan State had gotten to play each other a second time at the end of the season...just like Wisconsin and Michigan State did? Would Michigan have redeemed its loss to MSU also, just like Wisconsin? MSU had already beaten the Badgers once, but Wisky got the second chance and took advantage of it. The last game counted for more than the first game so Wisky got the Rose Bowl and MSU a lesser bowl. U of M, unlike the Badgers, did not get the second chance to redeem its loss to the Spartans (and the second match-up on a neutral site may have gone differently as well). So we are left at the mercy of the Bowl selection committees to get the Bowl match-ups that we have today, and Michigan ended up with a more impressive Bowl venue.

A touch of Izzo

Reminds me a little of the way Izzo calls out his players in the press as a way of motivating them.  I always thought Izzo was way too overboard in downgrading the performance of his individual players in the media...

LSJ writer thinks he will be suspended

http://noise.typepad.com/hey_joe/2011/10/no-word-on-gholston.html

Joe Rexnode in his LSJ blog writes a good summary of where the possible suspension process is at. He feels that the 'punch' will definitely get a suspension and the 'facemask twist' (a worse case in his mind) will not help his situation.

"The Big Ten Sportslike Conduct Agreement states that "It shall be the responsibility of each member university to ensure that all of its students and all individuals employed by or directly associated with it comport themselves in a sportslike manner when representing their university, especially at intercollegiate athletic contests."  So the onus is on MSU to punish the player, but (like listing him as a starter against Wisconsin) apparently they are content to ignore this issue.

Also, from the Big Ten rule book:

Acts of unsportslike conduct shall include, but not be limited to the following:
    1. Striking or attempting to strike or otherwise physically abusing an official, opposing coach, spectator or athlete. Any person committing such an act shall be subject to the following penalties:
    a. First offense: A public reprimand and suspension for up to 50%
of the scheduled contests in the sport as deemed appropriate.

Reasonable explanation

Looks like Talbot was affiliated with a legit football publication out of Ohio "This Week in Football" to allow him to get credentials???
