Those crappy Adidas designers must be moonlighting at Nike.

JV football. I'm the QB my best friend is my go to WR. Ball is on the left hash. BFFWR is lined up to my right. Slants are the route called in the huddle. I see the CB is shading him inside by about 5 yards. Slants won't work. Audible to the fade by tapping the top of my helmet. Take the snap. 3 step drop. Lay out a beautiful rainbow that BFFWR runs under and catches in stride for a sweet TD.
Later in the game. Same situation, same CB lined up way inside on a slants call. We changed the signals I audible to a hitch by tapping the top of the helmet. In hindsight a risky audible given the positioning but as soon as the CB sees me tapping my helmet he bails out giving about a 12 yard cushion thinking we are audibling into a fade. Take the snap. 3 step drop. Rifle a bullet out to BFFWR who makes a sick move on the poor CB and takes it the distance.
First time I ever felt bad for an opponent.

Of course they were. Why make two trips out to oregon when you can make one.

What we have here is an example of brand loyalty. Any difference between Adidas and Nike is minimal. I'm willing to bet they have some supplier overlap too.
|1 week 2 days ago||I think it is a chicken vs||
I think it is a chicken vs the egg argument. Of course Nike dwarfs Adidas sales. Nike owns the US and we have more consumer spending power than the rest of the world. The difference is that Adidas needs Michigan for thier North American strategy and is willing to pay for it, especially since Wisconsin and ND have recently left them for UA. Nike doesn't need Michigan in that way since they dominate the NA market.

2008. Which is why I think alot of people subconsciously associate Adidas with us losing when in reality the brand of uniform plays little to no part in sucess on the field.

That is why Nike can pay FSU, Bama, OSU around half of what adidas would pay them: they DESTROY adidas in sales.
Is that a function of them being with Nike or is it a function of them being among the top programs in college football over the last 10 years?
|1 week 2 days ago||The Jerseyz of the last few||
The Jerseyz of the last few years were a symptom of Dave Brandon being the AD not Adidas being the supplier. They approve this stuff way ahead of time. The other question is how the hell does Michigan not own thier own colors? Can apparel companies really trademark or patent color dyes?
|1 week 2 days ago||I imagine Michigan was||
I imagine Michigan was begging Nike for more money yesterday in order to justify signing with them since UA doesn't outfit all the varsity programs. Nike probably didn't budge since they are Nike and now Hackett and the UM crew is at Adidas where they will probably get the best offer. The question becomes will they overcome pride and take it?
BTW thank you for your expert opinion on the quality of fabrics used by Adidas vs Nike. I don't know what I would have done without it.

In 2003 we played Minnesota on a Friday night in the Metrodome because of conflicts with the Twins playoff schedules.

If Nike is going to swoon after us how come they haven't made an offer?
Nike doesn't need Michigan like Adidas needs Michigan. Nike has the North American market on lockdown which is why they would never offer up the kind of cash that Adidas has.
The fact is that the exclusive negotiating period for Adidas ended December 1st 2014. Nike and UA have been free to make thier offers since then and neither has done so.
|7 weeks 19 hours ago||Like you said, If you don't||
Like you said, If you don't like your alternate options just say no. Unfortunately what the AD views as the best option might not be what you view as the best option. Maybe the AD said no to a design you would have loved.
If you think the Adidas michigan gear looks like shit then don't buy it, go buy from Moe's.
|7 weeks 19 hours ago||A good AD can alleviate alot||
A good AD can alleviate alot of the uniformz issues by just saying no. If you want traditional uniforms you can have traditional uniforms, it doesn't matter who your apparel contract is with. That being said I'm convinced Hackett wants Nike but can't pull the trigger because Nike hasn't offered and Michigan doesn't have the leverage in negotiationg with Nike as it does with Adidas. Which leads me to belive the real question at hand is how low is Hackett willing to go for Nike.
And Hackett's quote about the "secret project team" is clearly him begging for a Nike or UA offer before the current deal with Adidas falls of the table July 31st. If he doesn't have a deal inked before July 31st he is going to look like an idiot because no way does Adidas give him the same deal after shopping around for another offer.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||The best I can come up with||
The best I can come up with is it is a bunch of people who were at UM between '90 and '07 who have a nostalgic opinion on Nike and subconsiously associate Nike with Michigan dominance in that era.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||Well that and Adidas was||
Well that and Adidas was willing pony up a huge apparel contract in order to expand in North America. UM has more leverage when negotiating with Adidas than Nike because Adidas needs us in NA while Nike doesn't.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||The Adidas basketball jerseys||
The Adidas basketball jerseys haven't been terrible (except for whatever ungodly concoction we wore in the BTT this year), but the football uniforms have just been....well....not good. The 2011 MSU and 2012 Alabama jerseys were atrocious.
Guess what? UM approved all of those designs. It is more of a Dave Brandon issue than an Adidas issue.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||Nobody realizes that. I've||
Nobody realizes that. I've said all along that the uniformz issue is more Dave Brandon than Adidas. Sure Adidas designers came up with those uniform designs but Dave Brandon had the final say on what we wore.
With the right AD the apparel company we are under contract with doesn't matter. Hopefully Hacket comes to his senses before July 31st and locks in another 5 years of the current Adidas deal because if he doesn't we stand to lose a significant amount of money.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||After the spring game Hackett||
After the spring game Hackett is going to Portland with his team to visit with Nike and Adidas. I imagine that he'll make his decision then. The only question is how much less money will he be willing to take to make the switch to Nike. If Nike doesn't offer enough money (Nike's max deal in 2013-2014 was 4.4M to FSU) then I'll be we resign with Adidas. I don't know how low Hackett is willing to go to get Nike though.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||Are the alternatives||
Are the alternatives the result or Adidas or Dave Brandon? The AD has to approve of anything Michigan wears. It isn't like the day of the game they open a box and have jerseys that nobody at Michigan had ever seen before.
|7 weeks 20 hours ago||What people fail to realize||
What people fail to realize is that the UM athletic depart approves of everything before the teams wear it. It wasn't like Adidas forced us to wear the bumblebee jerseys. Dave Brandon put us in those to counter the Nike Black and Bronze look MSU wore against us in that game.
