Happy Birthday Tom!

Happy Birthday and thanks again for you hard work in contributing to making MGOBLOG the most important site for all Michigan Wolverines sports information.

Cheers,

John

If Darian goes Blue Great if Not Best of Luck to Him

At this point whoever goes blue tommorow will have our full support. If they don't so be it and best of luck to them wherever they go. Regardless of the outcome tommorow regarding Cooper and Fisher, I think Hoke has done a great job in 3 weeks.

Unable to start a topic on MGoBoard

Although i was able to post a reply to the main page posts, there are still 2 techinical difficulties I am experiencing with the MGoBoard. 1) I am unable to start a new topic. I have the required points to do so but not seeing the option on the top left of the board. 2) I also noticed that on the MGoBoard posts, when I try to post a reply there is no box for the comment part, there is just a box for the subject. Any way this can be resolved? Thanks!

Having trouble getting to 2nd page of MGoBoard

Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Schilling will prove his worth

Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a top 3rd round or even late second round. Let's keep our fingers crossed for his success. He deserves it.

Sweet! I am optimistic that he will be blue!

I am very impressed with the recruiting effort by Hoke, Mattison, and the staff. Huzzah!

If you search Mgoblog you will see

Clearly I did not invent the term Hocus Pocus just the idea of using the term Hokus Pocus for the new snake oil. That's all. Just thought it was funny that scout is now using it too.

Maybe it was :)

maybe it wasn't...

Will was the question word

Taylor refers to Raymon Taylor. I was asking if the commitments of Raymon Taylor, Blake Countess and Tamani Carter would have an impact on the recruitment of Stefan McClure.

Your welcome dennisblundon

My post may be silly but had I not posted it you would not have gotten all those mgoblog points...

Great news!

This was the best news of the day! Denard is a team player.

FJ could also be a WR/recruiting guru

Fred Jackson could also reprise his old role of being a WR coach/ recruiting guru. Would be great to have him on the new coaching staff.

I won't believe anything until DB announces it

The media knows we are desperate for news so they are just conjecturing about all this. They know didley...Only Bo knows didley. I will believe a story when it is official. I would be happy with Miles but would prefer Patterson. I don't think Hoke will be a wise choice. We need a name guy who can bring in top recruits over the next few years...Michigan needs to have top 10 recruiting classes every year.

I am officially depressed

Since the loss to OSU i have been more and more depressed about the state of the program. DB's timing was awful, we have no coach, the top candidates are not an option anymore, our recruiting class is steadily crumbling, and who knows what is going to happen with our existing players. Michigan football is at the nadir of its existence. I guess things can only get better. of course there is zanex too.

Let's Get Patterson

I am not convinced that Hoke will be the savior for Michigan. DB should offer Patterson $5MM per year already and introduce him this weekend!

Keep on banging!

Aww yeah keep on pos banging!

Top Ten Picks

1) Patterson

2) Harbaugh

3) Pelini

4) Gruden

5) Dungy

6) Petersen

7) Mullen

8) Strong

9) Miles

10) Hoke

Have been glued to MGOBLOG for the past month!

Thanks Brian! This is the best place to get updates...Rivals and Scout should be paying you and TomVH!

Which assistants did DB retain?

In the press conference DB mentioned Chris Singletary as remaining in the recruiting role. On the main page Barwis is mentioned as being retained as well. Do we have a complete list of who was retained? What about Fred Jackson? He is the kind of guy that DB would want to keep for recruiting and because of his long coaching career at Michigan. I wonder if Fred Jackson could get a job as an OC somewhere. H has years of experience coaching WRs and RBs.

Did DB retain any assistants?

Did DB retain Fred JAckson, Chris Singletary and Mike Barwis? How does it work normally when the coach is fired? Does he fire everyone and rehire or simply retain some that he deems worthy to stay on during the transition?

5)

All of the Above.

Seems DB has only asked JH and BH at this point

It seems that he has only spoken to Jim Harbaugh and Brady Hoke!

Getting back to basics

DB has the uneviable task of determining the future of the Michigan football program for the long term. The RR era set Michigan back. I like RR but there were too many things not working out for him and yes he made bad decisions especially in selecting his staff. While our current recruiting class will be effected, I believe that it will not be as badly impacted as everyone thinks. DB will strive to select the best available coach, pay him well, and leverage his recruiting network. You can be sure the new hire will strive to keep the current players, and will contact the recruits who have committed/decommitted. Undoubtably, he will also contact some prospects that he was trying to recruit to his current school. Some players will stick to Michigan because its Michigan, some will decide to go elsewhere (Dee Hart) and some will be on the fence until the new coach is chosen. Let's see how it plays out. Remember this decision is not just about the current recruiting class. It is about building the long term success of the program. That starts with choosing a great coach. As fans we need to support the program and give DB a chance to prove that he made the best decision possible given the situation. It is too late to complain about the timeline. It is what it is. Now we need to get it right. I would not be surprised if we have a new coach by January 12th. Chris Singletary will stay as recruiting coordinator and I would not be surprised if Fred jackson will stay on as well in a recruiting capacity.

When LOI signing day comes

we will know who we should support. This applies to the entire team and the coaches whoever they are. Until then I am done speculating about who our coach will be or what recruits are coming or not.

Matt Dreary

Way to shit where you eat! What a douche.

I concur that JH is not the only option

Thank you for saying that. The fans are the ones who have been assuming that JH is the only option. DB will consider multiple candidates should he decide to fire RR. Also, RR may get to see out his contract with the stipulation that the defensive staff will be overhauled. I expect that DB may choose the next DC with RR but DB will tell RR that the new DC will pick his staff and be able to control the schemes. This seems to be the most likely scenario unless DB had already began a coaching search after the Ohio State game.

It's not JH or bust for DB

The fans are the ones who are thinking JH or bust. DB has never implied that he would be hiring JH if he were to fire RR. Clearly JH has has done a great job at Stanford but DB is probably going to consider other coaches as well. It is also possible that DB will keep RR with the condition that he must bring in a new defensive coordinator who will have the say in who is hired on his staff as well as what schemes to use.

I agree that the timeline was lousy and created too much uncertainty for everyone. Should he decide to fire RR there will be several great coaches out there for DB to consider. Also remember that very few people expected Bill Martin would hire RR as the coach in late 2007. DB could surprise us all with someone very few people have considered.

Perspective is Important

While upsetting at first, it is not the end of the world. Michigan needs to rebuild again and hopefully whoever our coach is deserves an opportunity to turn things around. RR did a decent job with what was given to him but I think he did not do a good job in selecting his coaching staff. Defense was horrible. The entire Defense staff needs to be overhauled. I would like to see us keep the spread offense though as it would be a real shame to lose Denard. I just hope that attrition will be minor in comparison to what it has been in the last 3 years. It is tough times like this that bring out the character in people. We must support our team 100% and have confidence that we will return to national prominence again. When we do it will make it that much sweeter. Michigan is a great school and will always attract top talent. There will always be another Dee Hart type player next year. Best of luck to Dee Hart. Now we can focus our attention on our team and support those who choose to stay or plan to come 100%.

That was hilarious!

I roared with laughter at that comment! I needed a good laugh. thank you boise state poster.

Glad that we have Denard

It really is a blessing that we did not get TP and got Denard instead. Denard is a true Michigan man and his character reflects that.

Strength of Schedule

A UConn win against Oklahoma (while highly unlikely) and a Michigan victory over Miss State would help Michigan in terms of its strength of schedule for the final BCS rankings.

Noticed a Zettel update on Rivals message board

Does that have anything to do with this?

They would get away with

anything! That's another reason why I hate ohio state. They could all be getting paid but the NCAA will turn a blind eye.

Another Roy Roundtree?

Could be another Roy Roundtree type prospect, except no snake oil required.

Probably Michigan in state players

Hayes is probably plugged in with fellow state of Michigan players such as Zettel, Rawls, and Taylor. My guess is it would be one or more of them but it could also be a player he has kept in touch with when Hayes made an unofficial visit to Michigan.

Possible Significance of UM Sending Fred Jackson?

It was interesting to learn that Michigan sent Fred Jackson to visit Dee Hart. Now I realize that Fred Jackson will be his RB coach but is there more to this choice? Perhaps it is because he will be the only coach who will 100% still be at Michigan regardless of who will be the head coach next season. Also Fred probably was trying to explain to Dee that no matter who the coach is he will be a great fit for Michigan. I for one hope that DB gives RR the chance to succeed and finish out his contract. Would be incredible to sign Dee and HaHa.

I completly agree with you

Well said. DB will need at least a week or two to make a fair evaluation or at least for people to buy in to his decision as being so. I think DB is smart enough to realize this and therefore believe he will make his decision within 1 to two weeks after the bowl game.

Thanks again Tom!

It is always nice to get some positive news like this especially since we have had to deal with the ramifications of DB's January decision. It is good to know that we have another solid "I am committed to Michigan no matter what" recruit aka Michigan Man.

Yes. However,

Sam's gut could be in overdrive and may have grumblings on another player as well! Countess is a great pickup and definitely will be an impact player.

I was trying to discourage

more DB and coaching change threads from being started. That's all.

The way I see it

there are two options:

1) Ignore the recruiting process entirely and just find out who actually signs on signing day

OR

2) Follow recruiting during the entire process and ride the roller coaster!

Face it we

can speculate all we want but it really is pointless since we all know for sure that DB is not going to say anything until after the bowl game. I for one am going to enjoy the holiday a nice Michigan victory over Mississippi State on January 1st, and then will wait for the decision. We may never actually know DB's true reasons behind his decision.

No Big Surprise

Best of luck to Avery. Now let's hope we can land Countess, Lyons, Zettel, Bryant, Frost, and another LB like Darian Cooper or Lamar Dawson. And Snake Oil Sammy Watkins!

Thanks Magnus

I didn't realize that Antonio Kinard has not been offered. I though that RR honored his 2010 offer into 2011 if he qualified.

Saban and Tressel

get away with so much malfeasance it makes me sick. DB is right that the NCAA needs to start cracking down on sleazy recruiting practices that those two evil douchebags use.

My guess would be at least 4

Michigan needs depth at LB. We already have commitments from Kinard (if he qualifies) and Kellen Jones. Seems like they are looking for at least two more in Lamar Dawson, Branden Jackson, Desmond Morgan, Curtis Grant, LaQuentin Smith, or Kris Frost. I agree with you about our chances with Kris and Desmond but would be pleasantly surprised to land Lamar or Curtis.

Martin will probably stay

He loves Michigan, wants to get his degree, and will be the co-captain next year. He has a legit shot to win the Outland Trophy next year if he remains healthy. He won't make the same mistake Donovan Warren made in leaving early although I suspect that he would get drafted if he did. I just think he wants to have one final shot a big ten championship next year...

Speculation is fine

but we will find out in due time if he is considering Michigan especially if he does visit in January. It would obviously be a huge get for RR and Michigan. We could use a LB like him.

I hope Oregon wins.

That way there will be no controversy surrounding the legitimacy of the National Champion.

Well deserved.

Great job Denard! Here's to success against Miss State and the next 2 years!
