What a read. Your magnum opus, Brian. Really helps one to continue savoring the feast long after the dishes have been cleared.

Can you find the one of Corum on the sideline, I believe after the second DE touchdown, with his arms around two other players, and the biggest s***eating grin on his face? Unfortunately I didn't DVR the game.

Blake Corum Photo? Total…

Blake Corum Photo? Total longshot, but I believe after the second DE TD run, there was a quick shot of Corum on the bench between two other Wolverines, with his arm around both, and the biggest S.E. grin on his face. Anyone know where I can find this photo? Didn't DVR the game unfortunately.

Gary - this is the best comment I have ever received on this blog. I will have to tell "Squib Kick." Go Blue!

Much appreciated my friend. How quickly they forget! LOL

After next week I still have to visit Nebraska and Minnesota - but they're adding teams faster than I can keep up!

Seth - a fine tribute. Don’t…

Seth - a fine tribute. Don’t forget also Mo was 4-1 as Lions’ interim and replaced by Marty Mornhinweg - who proceeded to win 5 games - and lose 27.

Wait - Seth Towns…

Wait - Seth Towns transferred from Harvard so he could get a degree from OSU? That’s like dumping your model girlfriend so you can buy an inflatable doll.

Exercise in fairness: could…

Exercise in fairness: could we do an opposite list where UM benefitted? Possible example: the 1989 NCAA basketball championship vs. Seton Hall. The foul against Rumeal Robinson was maybe a little ticky tacky.

But that is *all* I can think of in 45 years.

From postgame.com:

From postgame.com:

"He lined up on the far-right side of the field, and blasted the ball so high it was hard to tell if he'd made it. Ohio State fans who sat directly behind Lantry would write letters to Michigan coach Bo Schembechler asserting that Lantry's kick was good.

"But the referees waved it off. No good. As Schembechler later said of the game being played in Columbus, 'Those refs knew where they were reffing!""

Why no minutes for Bajema?…

Why no minutes for Bajema? Defense? Redshirt? Doghouse?

".... and instead visited…

".... and instead visited the Big East TJ Maxx, where he went straight to the clearance rack. It was there that Delany found his own brutally hideous fourth stripe: the Rutgers Scarlet Knights."

I didn't even see that coming, how you connected that up. Here I was watching the fullback dive into the line, yet somehow the flanker had the ball and scored before the camera could follow.

Not worthy, Raj.

Both you guys rock.

Ha!

Someone got it :-)

“We Are The Wolverines” That quote was my nod to Pop Evil. One of my pregame rituals is to pump up to that song.

Nice job with the parenthetical comments on the lyrics :-)
Today’s hotel story I went to the game with my friend Mike from Cincinnati. Our plan was to go in for the game and return this evening. On the way, Mike unhelpfully drove to Indianapolis rather than Bloomington as we were chatting. I marveled as he maneuvered his Porsche Panamera GTS* on back roads to get us to the game on time. We got to the stadium area just before kickoff but there was no place to park. We saw no signs for parking - not one. A cop told us to drive four miles south to a parking lot and take a shuttle. We headed south but were dubious. Mike pulled into a Super 8 and was prepared to pay for a room so we could park there, but hesitated to pay the $200 fee just for a parking space. The sympathetic desk clerk let us park there anyway and we hoofed the mile and a half to the stadium.

That may have been the best Super 8 experience ever.

*Mike is by far my most successful friend. And a really down to earth guy.
Little Brother's Poster

Can you post a pic? Would love to see it!

Yeah, we gotta knock the swagger out of Sparty.

Night Gallery

After Twighlight Zone went off the air, Rod Serling hosted sort of the same kind of show called "Night Gallery." My reference was to one of the more memorable episodes, "The Boy Who Predicted Earthquakes."

Clarification and response to #29 et al .. "taking glee" comment

My day job is a civil rights lawyer fighting for workers. I fully comprehend the devastation that corporate decision-making, and bankruptcies, often wreak on workers and their families. My point was bafflement at the bizarro-world that rewards failure. I take no glee in job loss. Cut me a little literary license/schadenfreude slack here!

Brandon said he won't close stores, and I hope he's right. Chapter 11 is a reorganization that allows them to keep operating. He needs all the cash flow he can get to pay down those debts. I just don't understand how people like him keep getting rewarded.

Thank you EGD

for the education!

.... or should I say "warning?"

This is why he slept in a tree ... ... to recruit this beast!
Thanks ...

... who else redshirted this year? Maybe Austin Davis? Anyone else?

Dakich

Anybody know why he didn't get his senior moment at the end of the game, especially with Pops here broadcasting for ESPN?

It was the security lock ... it somehow flipped open when we left for the game. I tried to go back in for my phone charger but the door only opened 2 inches, then hit the security plate, and stopped. I alerted the front desk person as we were leaving for the game, fully expecting it would be taken care of when we returned. However, although they have a simple tool to take care of this problem, they apparently neither had it available, nor the maintenance person, nor a manager on duty to authorize getting a sawzall from the local hardware store, so they gave us three separate rooms where we had nothing but the clothes on our back. They comped everything, paid for a meal, and send me some gift cards, apologizing profusely the entire time. It was a very nice hotel, and I will omit the name of the chain because they did step up after screwing up.
I missed out too!

J., I tweet/taunted Silver with #twosixtynine in the primary season, after looking it up and seeing no prior use. I should have been more proactive and jumped on it then! Ah well.

I Stand Corrected!

I bow to your superior fact checking, Alton. Thank you for educating me.

I was also wrong on the spread, which is in the 38-40 range!

Wow

Wonder what the "skeptical" prediction will be for Illinois? And can either one of us in good conscience predict a Spartan victory in three weeks?

Lucy GoBlue

Ha, You've got some mad photoshop skills!

West Coast Wolverine - Roumel relatives

Probably not related to you, Harry, Ted and Nick. Most Greek Roumels shortened their name from Roumeliotis (as I did). It's not an uncommon name. I grew up in PIttsburgh and there are no Roumel(iotis) left there. There is a Roumell (two ls) clan in Michigan, lots of lawyers as I am, but despite also being Roumeliotises we are not related either.

There is an unrelated Nick Roumel in Chicago, and I kept accidentally getting his email, and we ended up being friends on Linked In.

Thanks for asking, hope you see this!

What was up with NW's half court shot?

With about 1:07 left in the game, I was only half watching, someone from NW heaved a half court shot. Did he think it was :07 left? Was the shot clock down? Was it a Harlem Globetrotter trick? i can't find reference to it in any news story...

Nighthawks at the Diner is a classic!

(n/t)

Yes and it sparked an NCAA rule change.

But it was legal then to fumble purposefully out of bounds to stop the clock...

Big Joe!

Mr. Simon is a good friend and one of the best criminal defense attorneys around. Everyone in his firm is top notch.

Bashful Driver syndrome?

I was actually a pretty good golfer then. I'd never whiffed in my life and then did it twice in a row. I was totally freaked out by all those people watching!

It's all good, BL...

Plenty of room under this  Maize 'n' Blue  tent.

Go Blue!

I have only 49 points and

... yet I write a weekly column during the season.

At this rate I'll have 500 MGoPoints by 2050.

Absolutely remember Ryne Duren

But thanks for posting that article. I hadn't realized how his career spiraled southward with his drinking.

I think he was the inspiration for "Wild Thing," Charlie Sheen's character in Major League.

So I did consider Duren, as well as "Wild Thing" for my cultural reference, before settling on Dock Ellis. I am sensitive to the average age of readers on this blog (in fact just saw Brian's survey in that regard, vast majority in their 20's, then 30's), and I was a small child for Ryne's career, so I went with something that would have more familiarity.

Not that a lot of my cultural references still aren't head scratchers. Today it was Fellini's movie "Amarcord."

Appreciate the feedback.

one mystery solved

I'm impressed that you know that, Mizo.

Still don't know the significance of the faculty ID card.

By 2009 ...

... the wave was an adult with two kids, in his second career, in the throes of a midlife crisis, and driving a Maize and Blue convertible.

Yes EGD!

I was remembering the movie in general - what a bonus that the movie poster was also so spot-on.

Thanks "Twice!"

...

I missed it on a correction

Ha! I knew it was '97 - I'm not that senile yet. I originally had 1998 Rose Bowl as the highlight and changed it to the undefeated season but forgot to change the year.... thanks for catching the error .... not sure if Brian can make the correction at this juncture.
