Indeed.  Which begs the…

Indeed.  Which begs the question:  Has anyone heard from Carl Grapentine lately???  lol

I hope Ben stays at Michigan…

I hope Ben stays at Michigan.  Opening your own training facility is not easy and the money is not there immediately to replace his University salary.  There is also plenty of competition.  I was involved in the opening of the Barwis facility in Plymouth and I would encourage Ben to stay where he's at.

He hurt his hamstring BEFORE he went to Barwis

He had hurt his hamstring BEFORE  he went to Barwis.  In fact, he went to Barwis to fix his imbalances, and they have been working on that.    His hamstring injury has NOTHING to do with Barwis.

In fact, there have been several injured athletes who went to go work with Barwis over the summer to fix imbalances and get them back on the field.  And, of course, Brock Mealer continues to train with him and make progress.

Agreed

It seems pretty stupid to me.   He is a critical component of the defense.  Wonder what the heck the coaching staff was thinking?

No, but

No, but he has been working out with Barwis and staff this summer at the Barwis Methods Training Center in Plymouth and he continues to make good progress!

Kampfer First Went to Barwis's Center

Video from the Boston Bruins website.

Kampfer took the cup over to Barwis's training center in Plymouth:

Congrats, Steve!

Website

Here's a link to the training center website:

http://www.barwismethodstraining.com

It has more information about the center, etc.

Then there's the Barwis Blog:

http://barwismethods.wordpress.com

There will be NHL guys like Jack Johnson and Matt Hunwick training at the center starting June 1.

More info

Just waiting on the final details, but it is planned for the M-14 and Sheldon Road area, with an anticipated opening on June 1.

By the way, there will be open gym hours for those who want to come in and workout on their own.  Or, of course, you can get one of the staff to personally train you or a small group.

Mike will also offer “tactical strength and conditioning” for military, law enforcement, and firefighters. Mike has trained military and law enforcement personnel in the past, as well.

If you are interested, or know of a high school athlete who may want to check it out, you can send an e-mail to [email protected], or check the Barwis Methods page on Facebook – it will have the latest news on the training center, including pros training there, etc.

Cut from the same cloth?

Cut from the same cloth?    Not quite -- there are differences.   The players are being trained a bit differently now.  Add to that the fact that they took the nutritional products out of the weight room.  Barwis was a proponent of pre, during, and post- workout nutrition.    I have no idea why the new regime apparently is not.

Barwis is a consultant

Barwis is a consultant for the Mets. He was not interviewing for the strength coach job. Right now, Mike is still in Michigan, focusing on his Barwis Methods business. There is an on-ice hockey training video that is in production -- featuring Mike working with a number of NHL guys.

There should be some more Barwis news soon.

Barwis

Mike Barwis is still in the Ann Arbor area (but not at U of M).  His company, Barwis Methods, has been around for a couple of years now.  The site, as some have noted, needs a few updates, etc. , but is still active.  Mike has workout programs available on the site, as well as training equipment.   A hockey training video is also in the works, along with other videos such as speed training, balance and functional training, and plyometric, explosive and impulse training.

As you can imagine, as a very highly-regarded strength and conditioning coach, Mike has a number of options on the table that he is considering. I'll keep you posted and let you know when there's something to share.

Barwis

Barwis is still in town (but not at U of M) and has a few options on the table that he is considering.   Something will be announced in the next few weeks I would think.

Barwis

Barwis would stay.   That is not speculation.  But I am not optimistic that he will be given the opportunity.

Actually Brock

Actually Brock was driving to U of M 2 -3 days per week.   If Barwis and his staff are dismissed, I am not sure at this point how  Brock will continue the rehab process with Mike.  And, no, working out with the incoming staff would not be the same.  Barwis had a particular protocol that he was utilizing.

Not Likely

Unfortunately, I do not see that happening.

I prefer Chocolate Milk

I prefer choco milk with my toasted PBJ sandwich.     Especially if its crunchy peanut butter.

Please No Maize Cleats

I'm good with the maize on maize.  But please no maize cleats.  It'd be too much.

Curious as to who the player is

Curious to know who the player is that you are referring to?

Not Over-rated

Barwis is considered to be among the best in the biz -- not just "another very good S & C guy".    Remember, too, how recruits are impressed with him on their visits. So, he is very good  for recruiting purposes, too.

That bulk and size

That bulk and size you speak of was... shall we say... "not very functional" weight.    In regard to results under this S & C program --- those are real and documented.

Another S & C guy

Another s & c guy likely would not have been able to accomplish the same thing with Brock.   It wasn't just a matter of doing some weight lifting.  It was more than that -- Barwis employed certain methods and applied certain principles to get the result.

Yep

Coach Barwis would still recommend chocolate milk as a recovery drink.

Barwis Methods

@ldoublee -- actually, the logo on the back of the shirts is the head of a dragon.

The personal training programs can be customized for your needs and can be tailored to your current fitness level.

Also, clinics for coaches and certification for trainers are available as well.
