I shouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did.

Now how can we get a Jump to Press Conference button on the MGoBoard?

Looking at the full list the…

Looking at the full list the biggest surprise is Oklahoma never held it during their 47 game win streak in the mid 1950s. You would think a bowl opponent or something would've given them a matchup with the current champs at least once.

I think we would be excited…

I think we would be excited if it were us to get that level talent to commit one more year. Folks are talking about JJ as 2nd round at worst and we're begging him to come back. If you felt you had unfinished business and watched your rivals win it all wouldn't you consider one more chance to get them?

That being said: Bring it on.

Favorite on-field memory the 4th down OT stop of Milroe. I think I jumped high enough to clear a Powerwheels Hummer in my living room.

I don't understand why we aren't primarily getting him in space and changing it up with runs between the tackles? Pitches, screens, downfield passes all happened to RBs that game and none to him.

Strength

The strength to share and awareness to know it may impact just one person is beautiful.

Hoping the new treatment in Alabama proves fruitful.

All-22

I'll be intrigued to check out the All 22 version. Just my luck they'll hire Pam Ward on a 1 day contact to do the play by play though.

DirectTV Now

Go with DirectTV Now especially if they still have the 100 channel package for just $5 more than the sports package on sling. I went in when you could also get a free Apple TV.

Between the sports channels they provide, plus the watchespn app your only shortcoming will be CBS and NBC games. (They just added Fox in my area recently and ABC can be viewed on the espn app)

Impressive

A year out Brian got a 1/3rd of the class right. Plus credit for mention of Ambry Thomas and "A Zoltan-level punter would be the only player Michigan goes after with a precious slot."

Serious Question

Why does a section of the blog hate WD? Was there a key event that happened, or is it a trend in some type of posts? I feel like I'm missing something from not being on here enough.

Hello archives?

Is there a place where completed Hello articles for recruits we almost got exists?

I imagine Dashawn Hand and others have posts on somebody's hard drive.

Spread

The goal of the spread is to entice betting and make money. So further analysis would have to include opening and closing spreads. percentage of bets vs dollars for or against Harbaugh coached teams. Then of course a control sample group of random similar teams I like circumstances.

You're right It was the sole source until sometime in the 50s.

I don't recall exactly what the amount was but it was based on a monthly scale once the council voted to join KWA

So here's what happened

The City of Flint was approached by Genesee County to join in the formation of a new water authority Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA). At this point and time Flint was a customer on the Detroit Water and Sewage Department (DWSD). The selling point for the switch was that Flint would move from the position of a customer to a partner in an authority. With the belief being that it would provide for more long term control in the ever increasing rates they were receiving from DWSD. Residents were complaining about the rapidly increasing water bills at this point.

At the same time the City was under Emergency Management and on their second (technically third) different EM Mike Brown, and Detroit was under Emergency Management with EM Kevyn Orr. Which made for a rather conflicting predicament. When multiple cities under EMs want to make decisions in the best interest of their finances but need approval of the State then it forces the State (Treasure & Governor) to pick which City gets their way. Flint wanted out of the DWSD system, Detroit wanted to keep their largest customer. The financial impact both ways was tough. Ultimately the state punted, they let the City Council vote but encouraged them to listen to DWSDs offer one last time. The City Council ultimately voted 7-1 to switch. With the lone opposing vote wishing to use the Flint River solely as our cheif water source.

DWSD responded that month by cancelling the contract with the City which can be done with 12 months notice. However KWA would not be completed for another 30 months. Once the contract is finished they would be willing to still sell water to Flint but at a greatly increased price. At this point Flint EM Mike Brown had resigned and was replaced by Darnell Earley. Then a November election saw a handful of new councilpersons elected. One particular council person and Earley got off to a very contentious start. So much so that they were barred from verbally communicating with the EM, any city staff or employees. Also the council meetings became quite a spectacle. The EM then utiilized his powers to suspend council from meeting at all.

During this same time period they are trying to decide what they were going to do for the 18 months once they are cut off from DWSD. The two options are pay for DWSD month to month at higher rates, or switch to the Flint River and local treatment plant which to this point served exclusively as an emergency backup. Local officials were split on the decision with the then president of the council and mayor making public statements in support of using the Flint River as a means of providing for our own economic independence and relief for residents with high water rates. However they were not meeting so weren't called to make an official vote. Therefore the only authorizing document for the switch was signed by Earley. So the focus immediately was on getting the treatment plant up to speed to move from an emergency source to primary. Over $4 million in upgrades occur during this time.

Once the switch happens a multitude of problems occur. Fears of bacteria cause an increase in treatment chemicals which then result in rising TTHM which requires public notices to go out. Meanwhile residents are complaining of foul smell and discoloration. Ultimately the key problem was that specific phosphate treatments were not occurring to keep corrosion levels down in the water. State and Local staff had been monitoring and advising that the phosphates weren't needed based on standards for municipalities under 50,000 (Flint est. pop. 90,000). The final straw was a study done by a local pediatrician monitoring blood levels in infants and children. Over the time period of the water switch levels had dramatically increased. Then everyone recognized the lead was actually sourced from the service lines and plumbing associated with specific houses. Of which there are estimated roughly 15,000 structures with lead service lines. However their is no offical number because the data around construction is kept on a series of thousands of index cards.

Since then the City, State & CS Mott foundation put up $12 million to DWSD to switch back until the completion of KWA. Bottled water and water filter giveaways have been held since October. The newly elected Mayor is now pursuing a federal emergency declaration with hopes of accessing millions of additional dollars to address extensive lead infrastructure.

Context

This specific issue is more about context than person. Let a person of any race or ethnicity yell out to the starting QB as he's running off the field after a terrible performance "Hey n-word you suck!" it's going to come from a place of hate, and it's something no college athlete should have to endure.

Your larger point comes when there are acceptable times for one group of people versus others. That's a debate for another time. In this case it's unacceptable because of the message not the sender.

Yes it's going to suck royally.

From Lansing on east is pretty much under a sheet of ice going up this way.

congrats!

definitely Leaders and Best....Go Blue!!!!

Could be more

And that's assuming that Saban and other SEC Contracts stay static within the next 6 years. Which they are unlikely to do. Quite an impressive contract clause there.

Mike Hart

At points during his career it became like an emotional blanket relationship. I'd scream at Lloyd through the TV "just give it to Hart, everything will be ok, just give it to Hart..." The zone left would literally calm me down and make me believe everything was right in the world

THe rest:

Special Teams

I'd have to give the most improved to Gallon. The phrase "Gallon deep for Michigan" used to strike fear in the hearts of millions last year. Now he's turning into a poor man's Breaston.

This is exactly..

Not what I was thinking at all.

You really baited us with the shower, Captain and change of clothes there sir.

PLEASE read the Liveblog there

THe Liveblog at Her Loyal Sons is the closest thing we'll ever get to reliving it all over again. Just start around 11:20 pm and enjoy.

My favorite comment: after the Gallon catch on the final drive:

NDEddieMac:

Did he come off the fucking bench?!?!?!? what in the fuck

Schadenfreude at its finest

An additional question:

I agree completely: What other avenues in life give us the opportunity to do that. Scream at the top of your lungs jump up and down and hug strangers?

Maybe winning a war or a tightly contested election? And those aren't nearly as safe and pleasant as sports. (definitely more significant but you get my point)

So itsMgoblog official...

...we're out on Lose Yourself??

Track regional...

Was that regional in Bay City 2001 by any chance? If so I was there stretching by the start of the 110s on my back with my eyes closed. Sat up to see everybody running away from the track without me and a mini dust funnel cloud on the baseball field.

Oh yeah I ran a PR split in the 4x4 under the lights later. Epic meet.

If things don't work out with the NBA he throws a mean knuckle ball

I think a qb

To answer the question what position impacts a team the most it has to be qb right? Given that I think the only logical answers are someone in the Brady Manning category. Once Woodson (my favorite athlete ever) gets added to the field, don't oppose qbs just stop throwing to him?

The college game would be like slow motion for Brady or Manning and they'd have a field day.

Clay Davis is feeling slighted

Wide Open?

Anybody else notice the terrible secondary coverage out there on the highlight tape? Either Ricky Powers is an expert at play calling, or the competition they're up agains is trash.

I agree...

I agree with Irish. In the 2010 Spring game it was obviously apparent that Denard had improved his throwing mechanics and decision making. And that our Special Teams were atrocious. I left the game finally thinking the offseason hype around Denard may be justified, and knowing that we wouldn't be able to hit the broadside of a barn outside 30 yards with our fieldgoal units.

OTL Redemption

I think Brian should post an Outside The Lines Redemptions post on your epic recovery. This will be better than the Charlie Sheen E True Hollywood Story.

I just spent about 20 min

... looking for this after you posted today;s (14 teric jones) and I realized I missed this. Yeah the Gator Bowl can't get here soon enough. I'm literally searching for roster picture-countdowns at 2am

Denard 6th in voting

As of mid day Saturday afternoon the projected final votes had Denard in 6th, so I guess an invite would've been tough unless they included the WR from OK State.

Popular Consensus

I think the popular consensus is that this IS the Oregon identity now. It obviously doesn't work for everyone just like everyone doesn't need winged helmets cause that's our thing. But it definitely is their "thing". When you think of Oregon football the jerseys quickly come to mind, which has to be considered a branding success to some extent.
