Was there in 1997 as a freshman.  These scenes definitely take me back.  At that time I expected it.  Now, I take none of it for granted.  What a wonderful night.  Team 144 is special, indeed.  So many great stories this year.  Go Blue.

GO BLUE!!!!

Amazing Team.

LFG!

Ole Miss escaped a Tulane…

Ole Miss escaped a Tulane who was playing without their star quarterback.  The SEC is in rough shape when a second string qb at Tulane is giving them a run for their money.  Go Greenwave!

(Also, let's bring Tulane and their research prowess into the B1G.  Conference championship games in NOLA would be fabulous!)

Cool to see the Big10 and…

Cool to see the Big10 and SEC go toe to toe in first round talent.  Interesting that dollars for production (proven and predicted) is much more evenly spread between the Big10 and SEC than would be predicted by the dollars/clicks for predictions provided by recruiting prognosticators.

Great read, I loved the lurid description of The World Famous Beatdown.

But, gotta say it, wrong about Tulane in the penultimate paragraph.  In this year's version of a hypothetical 12 team playoff, they too have already faced one of the other 11 teams who would be in.  Tulane has already beaten the Big 12 champion this year - held KSU to 10 points, in fact.

Bring on USC.

Big 10 could add Tulane and…

Big 10 could add Tulane and fix that.  :)

Should be a measure of LSU-Tulane in the lil bro index above.  (The ole wheelbarrow rivalry)

I drive a 2021 F150 Hybrid -…

I drive a 2021 F150 Hybrid - great stereo (I swear the 48V electrical gives a closer to home-stereo experience with punch and finesse) and great mileage along with ability to take all power tools to any edge of the farm.  7.2kw generator, talk about utility!  In speaking to the "battery tech needs improvement" debate above:  1.6KWh worth of lithium gives me better than 50% additional free mileage in city... for the lithium used to take a single EV sedan off the road, 50 trucks can be outfitted with hybrid technology and take the equivalent of 25 trucks off the road.  Math and science = beauty.  And there is no tax rebate for this particular dual eco-friendly behavior, I did it for the love.

We also have a 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline.  440 hp, 9000lb tow, blend of highlights from Raptor and Bronco... and hauls my family of 6 +newfie to our Michigan home for a winter vacation on the lake (4x4 required.)  I see the eco crowd rolling their eyes... :P

For high mileage business trips, my wife and I share a 2021 VW GLI.  I have same shout out for the fun and mileage noted in the GTI conversations above.  37mpg is awesome alongside the built-in fun; but the F150 hybrid gets better mileage in the city.  Go figure!  The Beats audio is mediocre, for the aural curious.

The requirements to record a tornado as having happened has changed:  used to be that it had to have an observer on the ground (and yes, having 330 million potential observers in the US in 2020 as opposed to 158 million in 1950 would probably have a lot to do with an increase in number of observed touchdowns.)  However, now, rotations observed by radar are included as tornados (started approx two years ago.)

It is akin to the incidental masses we find on trauma victims via CT scans from head to pelvis.  Can you imagine if we changed the definition of cancer to include all masses above 0.5cm observed with technological imaging as opposed to having to be confirmed by direct visual evidence provided to a Pathologist?  Huge outbreak of cancer!

In football terms, I believe it is called 'moving the goalposts...'

Interesting thoughts JohnnyH…

Interesting thoughts JohnnyH.  I have not read the article cited above.

But to expand upon respiratory science and viral science a bit:

Airflow is not the only factor in the spread of a contact/droplet based disease.  The degree of laminar flow in and out of your airways determines how many particles deposit onto your respiratory tissues, and upon which of the membranes they deposit (large airways/small airways.)   Have you ever noticed how many of your viral illnesses start in your nasopharynx?  (Think turbinates.) Surgical masks were designed with this in mind: the pleats are intended to improve laminar flow.  Theoretically, wearing a mask which disrupts laminar flow (all masks) will increase particle deposition, and lead to increased innoculant loads (unless mask is also behaving as a filter, such as N95s.)  The physiologic location and size of inoculation are classically considered major factors of determining disease and severity.  Nebulized medications are an example of this - engineered particle sizes to deposit deep in lung tissue.  Air chambers on inhalers are another example of this - improve laminar inhalation to deposit engineered particles to deposit where intended.

The historic use of masks in public health, to be worn by sick people with airborne diseases, is predicated on the mask becoming rapidly moistened by the masked person's breath, and with nonlaminar flow created at same time, would lead to sequestration of more of the particulates near their face (as opposed to the room's air, that the rest of us breathe.) Of note, increased humidity is also considered important for increasing/maintaining the particulate size of respiratory droplets and shortening the time they can spend suspended in air (environmental humidity would play a larger role in this for the particulates making it past the mask - ie viral illnesses and TB increasing prevalence in winter weather: dry air = smaller respiratory droplets) thereby decreasing total concentration of respiratory droplets in an enclosed space.  These factors are why surgical masks are rated for 10-15 minutes; if not changed between each patient, they theoretically place the person wearing the mask at increased danger.  (N95 without a vent is rated to protect the mask wearer for 8 hours; N95 with a vent extends life of mask to 40 hours.)  This would also be why widely distributing a tool across a populace has been ineffective - people treat their own mask as if it is some sort of sterile cloth that they can handle without care (touch it and then not wash hands before rummaging through the fresh produce; lay it on public tables; etc.) as opposed to treating it like they would their underwear.  It is debatable as to which is more dirty: your mask or your underwear.  Watching people's behavior with masks has been quite disgusting!  Contemplate a second thought, which is that while reducing particulates from a sick person, it is concentrating those particulates in the mask, and if touched in a careless manner will lead to greater inoculant loads deposited onto a surface... so maybe a "partially effective measure" should instead be viewed more like a power tool:  train the user and great things can happen, hand it to a child and hands or walls will be lost.

Welp... that's what I get…

Welp... that's what I get for stepping away for a minute (or 30.)  Sorry for doubling up the topic.  To Bolivia!

So you're saying I can cook

So you're saying I can cook my game day brats with the TV!  Will one TV do it, or should I buy four?

Poundage

Nope, 5-10 pounds per person would be reasonable, 1.5# is not nearly enough.  And this is a non-sarcasm tone.

Doesn't seem predictive...

Looking at Week 6 of the previous 3 years (Teams who actually ends up in Top 4 after Conf Championships are in bold)

2015 Top 8 in Week 6:  Utah, Florida, Tex A&M, Ohio St, TCU, Iowa, Clemson, Michigan

2014 Top 8 in Week 6:  Auburn, Miss St, Miss, Zona, Fla St, Notre Dame, Ga Tech, UCLA

2013 Top 8 in Week 6: Stanford, Fla St, Clemson, Bama, Oklahoma, Georgia, Mizzou, Ohio St

So based upon the previous 3 years... It appears, landing in the Top 8 of Colley's Week 6 rankings gives a team approx 16% chance of finishing in the Top 4 and making the Play-Off.  Similarly, Colley's only correctly predicts (in week 6) a Top 4 finisher 16% of the time.

Trickery

I clicked and looked.  The teams on the site are listed in order of offensive rating, not overall rating.  Look carefully and you will see M with an overall rating of 97... which is the highest and ranks #1.

Moldova

Was researching TB for a year in Moldova.  My girlfriend (now wife) would take her laptop to our usual football parties in NOLA, prop it in front of the TV, and I would Skype in to watch the games.  I became known as her "boyfriend in a box." And she demonstrated one more reason to make her my wife.  Good times! :)

Indeed

Giving Harbaugh some time in the kitchen is a big part to the recipe for success.  Summer is going to be great just knowing he's got everything simmering, mixing away like the Swedish Chef.  Success smells delidious, and I can already smell what he's got cookin'!

Also, time to get the grill fired up...

Coach Harbaugh scoffs at your

Coach Harbaugh scoffs at your milk thistle seed, as he only takes whole milk thistle seed.

Strong academic presence

In analyzing his list of offers for well respected academic schools, aside from Duke,  Ga Tech and Vandy, I would also highlight Tulane.

Ah Philly,

The city of brotherly mugging.  Great history though!

Indeed

And with recurrent mottoes like "fuck off" it sounds like a place of great hospitality... which in this case is appropriately just a few consonants from hostility.

Thank You

I hadn't thought about my age yet today.  I'm going to go pour a highball of the 900th Anniversary Chartreuse to make me feel young again. :)

Better granularity

I think you're on to something, Turd.  As you stated, just utilizing all the stars would give us a better feel of separation among schools (more specifically, schools we care about.). That would be killer.

How about:  Assume average of 24 players to be selected by each of the top 50 schools - 1200 players total.  Pre-set the ratio of each position group to the total.  Create equal strata within the position groups and give them 5-stars, 4-stars, 3-stars, and 2-stars.  Anyone outside the top 1200 gets a 1-star.  For a continued sense of dominant NFL men among boys, give a gold star to the top 25 players each year, regardless of their position and ratio of that position.

If you're a fan of what you consider a top 50 team, and your team has a few one stars on it... you lost a few position battles.  If your team has three 5 stars in a given position... they killed it!

I Agree with you completely

Gary will make a terrifying TE.

As an aside, love your username.  I met my wife at a toga party down at LSU - she was dressed in an elegant green satin, while I had wisely chosen a sky blue flannel covered with clouds, rainbows, Winnie, and the statement 'pooh-licious' scribed all over it.  Go pooh go!

Gump

Gump style runner?  Worked well for Bear Bryant, if I recall my history correctly.

Party of 4

My brother, myself, and our wives... Ready to rock the Big House!  Looking forward to it.  See y'all there!

Up

Per Google, Columbus altitude 781 ft and Ann Arbor 900 ft.  Therefore 'up' regardless of being a flat mapper or a topographical snooty snoot.   You've taken grammar nazi to new heights.  I'm putting all of my money on Michigan due to their superior natural erythropoeitin levels, it's science!

Ahh.

Was not aware of such a loophole.  Looks like the trolls have won again.  Such wanton destruction.

Strange Response

Reduce argument to a non-argued point ('someone suffering') + make assumption that anyone who disagrees with you is lacking life experience ('clearly you've never...') + name-calling ('asshole') = proof of the art of discourse vanishing before our eyes.  You really are not displaying a knack for improving the public good through discussion, and have just proven why a sports blog should not be a realm of political discussion while simultaneously trying to villify (perceived) opponents as opposed to engage them.

Best part of your aggressive response?  I didn't even engage in an argument about poverty.

But hey, Go Blue.

Politics

Hmmm.... Looks like half of a political conversation was removed.  Is this 'The Michigan Difference' we so proudly boast of?  I understand a sports blog banning political speak.  Having one sided political discourse is another entity entirely.

Hope y'all had a great day!

Hope y'all had a great day!

Nope

She's a doctor.  She is licensed.  She has a federal id for prescribing.  She carries her own insurance.  And sadly, she is the one who will lose everything if she makes a bad mistake.  That is why most doctors prefer to train in a residency (under someone else's malpractice - although major mistakes are tracked under an individual id and impact future costs of malpractice) where they have the shield of an attending physician looking over their shoulder and teaching.

When you go to a Doc in a Box operation, there is a large chance you are seeing a licensed, but non-boarded, physician.

Igors

Sounds like I have found a probable fan of Igor's, where one may obtain a burger at 3:45am while still drinking into the sunrise...

Chris Floyd

Used to dine with Dhani in East Quad, baller on the field and awesome in life.  With that bias stated (and acknowledging that Woodson was a once in a lifetime game changer) I would say that Chris Floyd was the most delightful fullback I have ever watched.  Without the bubble he gave to Griese on an every play basis, M does not win the NC.  I had never seen FB play like that, and haven't since then.  How I long for Shallman, or Houma, or Kerridge to channel his play... Let the line create the pocket, let the FB blow up any who enter.  Title.

High Expectations

Les Miles will always be a single season away from being fired at LSU.  Must always win, and win big while looking good doing it.

thank you jblaze Am looking to capture the video that is going to my screen - not interested in DVRs as I am more interested in recording very few events each year - 15 Michigan games and 15 LSU games. OK, and a few basketball games in there as well. All in all, the video editing options of the PVRs are more intriguing to me than the ability to record 12 channels simultaneously for $15/month.
Cost I'm Verizon FiOS, and I believe its more along the lines of $15 a month. Just felt there might be a better option to maximizing the value of the television stream I am paying for, including being able to watch games I miss while at the hospital. I don't need all the tuners that DVRs come with... not enough time to follow 12 shows simultaneously. And it's looking like these "capture cards" even come with editing software. When M goes undefeated this year, I'm going to mash up one hell of a video to commemorate it.
Thank you for the site Karpodiem Will have to check it out, as I will not have a PVR in place by tomorrow.
Consider Stanford This sounds to be word for word the national sentiment re: Ducks going into the Stanford game the last two years -"Oregon's going to get their points, but if Stanford can keep up into the 4th..." Oregon then scored 14 points and 20 points each year. Seems to me, Stanford is built around solid D with good line play (both sides) and a reliable QB with a solid RB. That sounds remarkably similar to MSU's teams recently. Perhaps MSU is more aggressive on D, and perhaps Oregon will better exploit that aggression. However, I don't think a low scoring affair is out of the question.
While we're on abbreviations,

You sport yours in NoVa and I'll sport mine around RiVA.  I'm sure there are some AA hippies running around NOLA to pick up my slack...

I am listening to...

Ora by Ludovico Einaudi.  Little dude was putting up some mean cross rhythms for a second there, and then a nice gallant strut through the refrain.

True that Seriously, we don't normally make dinner dates at the grocery store, but... the hot plates are pretty dang good, especially the breakfast bar, and they'll sell me a growler at the end of the day. Can have a pint with dinner, safely drive home, and then have a couple more pints at home. Got a nice little Sunday planned, maybe hit the Bed Bath and Beyond on the way home... I don't know, don't know if there'll be enough time.
Exactly Perhaps he's just suggesting that Northwestern is too directional and needs to be re-named Illinois State of Chicago...
Richmond locales Definitely had a moment of home sick set in... then discovered 3 places set to tap Oberon right here in Richmond, VA. My wife and I have set a dinner date for Whole Foods in Short Pump next Saturday! (Trauma nights for the next 6 days means I will be instead taking care of anyone having a few too many Oberon's with keys in hand... also, please keep gasoline and diesel away from your bonfires. Actually, please just stay away from fires. End of Public Announcement.)
Agreed Living in Richmond, stoked to have reasonable road trips for football and basketball.
By the way,

I appreciated your points here, including players' rights to not be smeared (pre-emptively) by story hungry mediaites, as well as the implications of medical costs associated with injuries suffered during NCAA athletics.

Return I appreciate your tenor, and respectfully offer the following thoughts: Agreed that 40 hours a week is a big time commitment. 1. A lot of people who don't have their educations paid for with scholarships do so with employment. I had a lot of respect for my classmates paying their way through school, because their bosses were much less likely to schedule around college courses, whereas my training was built to suit class scheduling. There is no reason to feel sorry for D1 athletes... again, what they do is fun. 2. The alleged rape didn't occur at 6 AM warm-ups either - D1 athletes have plenty of time to party.
