I listened on the Notre Dame network in Arizona as a 20 yr old and can fill u in on other factors that played a major part in ur becoming a willing participant in our group pain as Michigan fans. Bo decided that Rich Hewlett was more suited to take on the fightin irish in south bend than john wangler and Michigan soon had an uphill battle as Notre Dame held a large lead going into the 4th qtr..Enter John Wangler and goodbye clouds of dust along with the Notre Dame lead. The game clock was under a minute as Michigan kicked off following this miraculous comeback and the only thing in the way was a long run or pass or maybe not 1 but 2 pass interference calls and maybe a 51 yd fg attempt into 30-35 mile wind that had been blowing for all, not most of the game.The Notre Dame play by play and color men gave Notre Dame zero chance...about as much chance as an undefeated team winning their bowl and losing their top ranking.

|3 years 12 weeks ago||ezeh's problem...||
...was not helped by:
1. 20 minutes of possession time for Mich offense.
2. Playing the 2nd most important position on the team.
3. The 3-3-5 exposes LB's weaknesses.
4. Every week of this season is a potential program killer.( Try that on for size, stone throwers!!!)
Brian, I fully understand the need to breakdown the teams defense as a way to help the football novices in ur adoring throng of 12-20 year olds but this constant second guessing of coaches, mainly Greg Robinson, is really getting old fast.
I'm sure you could somehow pass on ur enlightenment to both RRod and GRob and somehow save this undermanned defense from further futility-23 scholarships on the D side. Yours in Maize and Blue.

Since Michigan laid 31 in one half, the fact that W Mich returned few starters would be a moot point. Now if Michigan had scored 14 or less in the first half it would be a major concern.
Now does having only 3 starters back from a mediocre defense who faced 4 top 20 offenses lead to assuming that Michigan's 31 first half points were easy to come by or does a team that returns 7 starters from a defense that faced 2 top 20 offenses, 1 of whom laid down 69 points,explain why Clausen had a 2,000 Qb rating.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||more numbers||
The Nevada Qb passing stats from last year were 'Steven Threet' like at 54% completion but very effecient with 22 td's and only 7 picks.The offensive line this year had to replace 4 starters and we know all to well how that goes.
The Nevada offense actually moved the ball well in the first half as they made it into the red zone twice and into Notre Dame's side of the field 4 times but credit Notre Dame for bending and not breaking.
As for Clausen, in 2 games against Michigan he has yet to complete at least 50% of his passes and his lack of pocket presence leads to a high percent of interceptions.
To sum it up, their are as many question marks for Notre Dame as there is for a younger Michigan team but I would rather go to battle with the 'Dynamic Duo' of TForce and DRob over 'Emu Boy'.

I guess notre dame's roster is filled with nothing but all americans and should easily defeat the overmatched wolverines.michigan state just replaced their qb with 2 guys who are better than tom brady's backup and their new tailback makes barry sanders look like west texas blue. illinois should have this years game settled after the 1st quarter instead of waiting till the 4th quarter like last year.wisconsin should improve enough to payback the wolveries for last year.indiana will probably leapfrog michigan based on the pasting they should lay on michigan this year. penn st always beats michigan and this year should be no different.purdue's defense wont have threet to worry about this year.minnesota and northwestern both breathed a sigh of relief when they saw sheridan is now 3rd on the depth charts and of course ohio st. just wins championships.michigan should go 1-11.

...yes, its unlikely that Michigan will go 13-0, but stranger things have happened. Appalachian St. beating Michigan the same year that same Michigan team not only beat Florida with Tim Tebow, but beating them easily and in the state of Florida, gives me hope that , Yea, Michigan can go 13-0.
How? 4 very winnable non conference games. A Big 10 that is down this year from last, 2 Qb's who fit a system that allowed App. St. to level the playing field at the Big House. A system that allowed West Virginia to go from 3 wins to 9 with 2 and 3 star talent...are u aware that this past offseason Michigan signed more 4-5 star talent than RRod had total in his 7 years at WVU?
Forcier and Robinson are playing a position at a school that has produced more NFL Qb starts since 1988 than any NCAA team. Top 5 in producing NFL talent for the last 13 years.2 Heisman's since 1991.3 NFL Superbowl MVP's since 1997.
QB U...hello, have you heard about it.
Lets compare some other freshman Qb's at a few of the schools who have walked away with the BCS trophy since it's inception.Vince Young, great college Qb his last 2 years,so so NFL.Name another NFL starting Qb from Texas in the last 20 years.Colt McCoy same, Troy Smith, Ohio St., how many starts from Buckeye Qb's in the NFL in the past 20 years? Bradford. How many from Oklahoma in the NFL in the last 20 years.
The probability of Michigan producing an NFL caliber Qb as compared to most teams in the NCAA is appreciably higher than the norm.
Tom Brady anyone?
The play of last years Michigan Qb's, Threet and Sheridan, is not the norm for the team from Ann Arbor and has been corrected with the recruitment of Forcier and D Rob, a California, Florida combo of talent, both in the air and on the ground.
The elusive,polished,strong armed,and accurate Forcier, combined with the dynamic,determined, and Bolt-like speed of D Rob, are soon to be unveiled at the Big House this Sept. 5th 2009.
13-0...Yea it can happen.

We held OSU and Penn State to 14 points each (the most high powered offenses in the B10) for the first half.
or How about when we intercepted Tyrell Pryor and ran the ball to the 5 yard line. 1 and goal - and nothing. 4 downs and the offense went negative yards.
I think offense was the biggest problem."
Think back to the Wisconsin 1st half also where the defense bailed out the offense 3 or 4 times.There would not have been a comeback without the D.
3 and outs and turnover differential doomed the team more than anything.

Thoughts on the Spring Game...
Tate was way better than I imagined he could be so early into his college career. Now I know that the Defense was the 2's, and I know that I am biased as hell, but when he runs this offense it looks like the real thing. Last year it was looking like a highschool team, and none of the QB's looked comfortable back there. Tate made quick decisions, accurate passes, and sneaky cuts. I really like how Tate hits recievers in stride, giving them room to make plenty of YAC.
My favorite thing about the game was the play action rollout on the goal-line. They ran it twice - the first time he hit Roy Roundtree in between two defenders on a rope. Boom. TD. The second, Roy was covered and he just pumped the ball and ran it in. That play will be hard to stop, and you gotta like a kid who understands making the defense commit. That's not something that can be easily taught.
When David Cone came in, the offense was back to looking uncomfortable -and it is pretty obvious that RR's offense is not for pro-style QB's.
I have a feeling that the walk on, Jack Kennedy will pass him along with Denard, and Feagin. There were several recruits who changed UM to their top pick after that day, and they were just as impressed.
It is now our job to go out and support them every year. If we can double the attendance next year, it will help even more. It will help the newbies see how the game atmosphere in the best stadium anywhere in the world is, and show the prospects that UM is exactly where they want to play for the next four years. Some schools can't get 50,000 people to a real game. Actually most...
The way the new construction is looking, I really think the stadium will be considerably louder when it's finished.
I read some grumbling about the defense's performance, but I didn't see one TD scored on the first team D. What I did see was multiple fronts, blitzing on 3rd down, line stunts, and Obi Wan Ezeh busting heads all over the field. When you really look at last year's D, the run was not a problem for us. In fact, third and long was the worst position to put them in, because we were so weak at the back end. In comes a slew of talented Freshman and an old experienced coach. Greg Robinson is a great choice to take all of the current coaches and form a plan they can all agree on. I hope Justin Turner can come in and contribute right away, because he's got more talent than anyone we have at Safety right now.
My point is all of you need to come to the game next year because it's a blast, it's free, you can sit wherever you want for a change, and the team needs our help. Go Blue, Go RR, and let's start the season 4-0!!!!!!!!!
is that better??

the seeding is over. purdue getting spanked at home by duke, michigan state getting embarrased in detroit by north carolina and ohio st. getting annihilated at home by west virginia hurt the big tens rep and seedings.
louisville was exposed by minnesota earlier this year and that went a long way towards reinforcing michigan states hopes to defeat an overrated cardinal squad.
this victory had nothing to do with the quality of the big ten this year and had everything to do with the perception in the state of michigan that msu is still the school of choice for 4 star in state talent.

To wit: Anthony Wright was playing well in the first half on Saturday, but there's a reason he averages 3 minutes per game. He's proved (all year) that he isn't as good as the other people on the team. When Wright gets a few minutes and makes a few shots, that's great for our team, but it doesn't mean that JB should alter the rotation (once foul trouble is no longer a concern) in order to get Anthony Wright on the floor. He wasn't hot, he just made 4 shots! Should JB really make coaching decisions based on whoever is hot during each game? Can't you see the downside to that approach?
using ur logic ant should not have seen the 25 minutes a game he played last year as I'm sure this sudden lack of talent(check out his bio on mgoblue)would have been assessed by jb in the first month of practice.
funny how u downplay the 4 shots in a row he made, yes when u r 4-5 including 3 3's and an in and out that is what I call hot and yes jb should make coaching decisions based on who is performing in games and I would consider ant's performance saturday as deserving of more playing time.
I am really getting tired of some of u geeks who come on these blogs and never having played the game have no idea wtf ur talking about.

|4 years 38 weeks ago||jb's kool aid||
blind allegiance will not be tolerated. what could jb have done in the ok game to turn it around.
1. start wright in second half instead of waiting till the 12:00 minute mark.why? he was hot and great coaches usually take advantage of that.
2. played gibson and sims together as this game should have been about guarding griffin with 2 big players.
3. fouled griffin within 10 seconds of each possesion in the last 5 minutes of each half. wright , sheppard, perry all ended with 0 fouls and gibson had 1. hack a shaq would have worked in this game 2 ways. slowed griffin and frustrated him. I would much rather have griffin at the ft line than dunking or passing out for an open 3. he was involved in 10 points scored in this time period and the hack a shaq would have reduced that to 5-6, in other words this could have dramatically changed this game.
4. played harris in last 5 minutes of first half while protecting him on the defensive side with the above hack griffin defense and keep him involved in the offense.
5. cut douglas and novack's minutes in a game where both of them looked lost and ineffective.
6. not called timeout with 9 seconds left in first half for the usual waste of the last possession while leaving manny on the bench after the timeout.
my main concern with beilein has always been game decisions and this game was a classic example of what needs to be learned from and hopefully improved.
because of the iowa loss the team lost a 7-9 seeding and this would have made a major difference in whom michigan faced and just maybe we would be looking forward to a sweet 16 matchup on thursday.

its obvious I am now forced to pull out the always false humility card and say "you win" while knowing that I always win.Why? because..." I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky, spread my winged helmets and fly away. I believe I can fly"!!

Listen to forcier, his belief is bordering on insane.enough belief from an 18 year old to send a 3rd year Qb packing to North Dakota.as for robinson he had a scholarship in hand to Florida as a cornerback but his belief in himself as a Qb sent him to Michigan.

...how the group mentality works. this from MichFan: "can we vote this guy off the island"
"can he make like PRR and leave? Actually, can we bring PRR back in place of this guy? What do you think Brodie? I mean, seriously, it looks like he ACTUALLY thinks WLA is communist"
Michigan Wolverines: 872 wins, .740 winning percentage, 42 Big Ten Titles, 11 National Titles, 3 Heisman winners, and 76 All-Americans
the second paragraph shows a proclivity for lynchings and suppression or if in this case MFan is a young girl it is totally understandable... you know that "mean girl's and the mean things they do".
the 3rd paragraph, makes chitown's point about the past 50 years... on bizarro world.

communism is one of the many forms of a flawed,as is capitalism,concept to control the people and their opinions.sound familiar? democratic capitalism on the other hand is a concept designed with the 'barnumian' logic in which the masses being of low intelligence will fall in line as long as the simple pleasures r provided.
the moral of the story,this thread, is were screwed if we believe were screwed...the mind...the mind...hence,the fact michigan does not succeed is due to a mental approach each player has to competing.henne did not believe in himself, brady did.grbac did not believe in himself, harbaugh did. threet did not believe in himself,forcier and robinson do.
it is up to the qb to lead the masses on to victory over the oppressors...do you wla followers feel better??

"You're dealing with someone that clearly thinks that Michigan possesses some sort of tradition-bound right to excellence, in which anything short of a championship is unacceptable (nevermind we've won one in 50 years). IE, he's not rational. Don't try."
this coming from someone who combines sports with political ideology(marxism)and is the king of nonsensical comments in that regard.
my rationality may be skewed,as are most sports fans,but my love and allegiance for all things maize and blue caused me to voice my opinion on this acceptance of 7-5,9-4,9-3 and 10-2. this does not cut it. when I first saw Henne throw a laser to the sideline and then cringed when he showed his first Grbacian tendency,a lock on to a covered receiver, I knew that the national title would evade the "faithful" for another 4 years.hopefully forcier and, or robinson will be up to the task.
"either ur with us or against us"...sound familiar?why come on this blog or have ur own blog about u of michigan sports if ur not a believer? is it for an ego lift or r u making easy money? obviously it's not for the helmets or the fight song or the storied past where u of michigan is known as the true "leaders and best".
as for the one championship in 50 years that is exactly why I pointed out an acceptance of mediocrity in too many of the michigan fans.this is one fan who is excited about forcier and robinson,
|4 years 43 weeks ago||wolvy||
"You are using Chad Henne as an example of mediocrity? Bold Noah, bold."
not as bold as the misconception that a qb who had 14 losses in 4 years should be considered as "great" and yearned for.

|4 years 44 weeks ago||jb's kool aid||
cj lee playing 68 minutes in last 2 games and scoring 2 points with 7 assists and 5 turnovers is not gonna cut it.
jb has either decided to use lee's intensity as a teaching tool or he has gone insane.
there is something wrong with lee taking 4 shots and douglas taking 2.what is jb thinking? pass the ball for 30 seconds and give ur shooters 5 seconds to set up for a jump shot.sounds familiar?remember ta. I am pissed. where r the game adjustments? is this against jb's coaching philosophy?
it was obvious what izzo's defensive plan was after 5 minutes...take manny out of the offense with a tight man to man and help from lee's defender and novack's defender(I know and u know where novack hangs out), hang tight on stu,put 1 on 1 against sims and gibson. sims had his way all game.it is not goddamn rocket science, take what they give and do not force it.
with perry, novack and lee on the court it is 2 on 5 offensively.harris does not have a chance. this is the same defense that conn.,ohio st.,purdue, wisconsin,and mich. st. have run. stop harris and michigan will fail.
this is insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|4 years 45 weeks ago||no catch||
once again an incorrect call has helped crown champion. if u watch the replay holmes had his right foot down as the ball approaches and as the ball sailed to his left he reaches to that side and before the ball makes contact with his left hand he lifts his right foot places his left toes on the ground and falls forward. at regular speed and being the cynic I am, I deduced that he did not have both feet in based on sound scientific evidence.
arizona may have still lost but the call was not correct.about the only thing it may have changed was the anointing of the mvp and we all know who benefited from that.

to break down the game with 6 minutes to go michigan thanks to a 7 for 15 3pt. performance in 2nd half had cut into an 18pt halftime lead and were down 8. at this point I will take a moral victory and point to an awakening from our shooters including manny,llp and novak.
this team will make the ncaa tourney and advance to the sweet 16 where the lack of an inside game and experience will end the run.all non-believers, including brian, either chill or get out of the way. there is enuff naysaying coming from east lansing and columbus.

|4 years 47 weeks ago||ez's world||
EZ,as for last year...lets go over each game and come up with a logical reason to have no hope for 2009.
game 1)Utah: first game yes, michigan did get most of the breaks but the second half was more indicative of the talent comps.Final 25-23 0-1--2009 With Forcier or more experienced Threet 0-1
game 2)Miami: still learning complex system . lackluster performance mostly brought on by bad recruiting and overly optimistic fans.Final 16-6 1-1--2009 Forcier exp. Threet 0-2
game 3)Notre Dame:flat as a nun's chest 4 fumbles and 2 int. season over.Final-35-17 1-2--2009 Forcier exp Threet and more bad luck 0-3
game 4)Wisconsin: do miracles ever cease? this game saw Mich. turn the ball over repeatedly in first half and this led to one of the luckiest comebacks .
game 5)Illinois: Mich. spurred on by lucky comeback against Wis. comes out Juice see's blood, doesn't throw a pick and....Final 45-20 2-3--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-5
game 6) Toledo: Threet makes another freshman mistake, Toledo comes out with an offense designed by their old coach Gary Pinkel, now at Missouri, and throws over 100 times...well, at least 50.Final- 13-10 2-4--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-6
game 7)Penn St: #3 team in happy valley.Michigan once again loses. Final 46-17 2-5--2009 Forcier exp Threet closer but still lost 0-7
game 8)Michigan St.:same old story. young and now bewildered team they've become. Final 35-21 2-6--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-8
game 9)Purdue:Michigan's offense scored 42 problem was Michigan gave up 48. Final-48-42 2-7--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-9
game 10)Minnesota: this game showed how bad we are and Michigan won that juggy thing.Final 29-6 3-7--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-10
game 11)Northwestern: Michigan come out in the snow and rain runs the ball for almost 200 yards but the 88 yards in passing and the defenses year long inability to stop 3rd and 30's did the Maize and Blue in...the pain...the pain....Final 21-14 3-8--2009 Forcier exp Threet 0-11
Game 12)Ohio St.:
ohio st 6 plays for 318 yards
michigan intercepts pryor on first drive returns to 8 and sheridan puts a dagger in the maize and blue heart. game over Final 42-7 3-9--2009 Forcier exp Threat and a witch doctor...0-12
Next year 0 wins...yea seriously...Go Blue!!

as for the purdue game, yes the defense did not come through but IMHO the offense did not rack up alot of yards but did take advantage of special teams play...so yes with forcier and or a more experienced threet>threat the wolverines come out of west lafayette with a W.
on to the lack of optimism among the "faithful"...
I'll let you in on a little secret, "Yes We Can".

So the "Good Times" mom's grandson has decided to transfer to "Ole Miss". I guess he thinks Houston Nutt has something good started. The SEC just gets better and better. Damn!!!!!
I also read that Georgia was picking up a transfer from Greece named Latka Gravas currently playing for a small college in Sparta.In the article it talks about his desire to transfer to Athens since he was small boy...funny, I didn't know the Greeks were interested in college football. I guess all that missionary work by Tebow is finally paying off.

|4 years 48 weeks ago||arrogance||
As a lifetime fan of Michigan I know arrogance when I see it, or in this case smell it. The stench is overpowering and almost nauseating, a bend over the toilet kind of nausea.
SEC, SEC, SEC...I am so sick and tired of every football season being inundated with the same old crap.Speed this, speed that.Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkk!
They lost on their home goddamned field to a team from Mississippi who lost 4 games, including to Mississippi State and at Wake Forest. These 2 teams do not put the fear of God or Tebow in college football coaches around the country.
My point of all this blabbering is that until there is a playoff or a team comes out of the season unscathed or at least undefeated than this is all bullshit...oh I forgot we do have an undefeated team,but it came from a non bcs conference, you know those guys that play no one or at least ever leave their part of the country and...oh there I go forgetting again, beat someone from a bcs conference...forgot again,beat someone on the road...oh damn, they did. When did this happen?
13-0 huh, beat Michigan in the Big House, beat the team that beat USC, beat #7 TCU,destroyed the always dangerous and big rival BYU, went up over a mile and beat the always dangerous Air Force( u know those guys who lay down the humble pie on any non-con opp.up in co.springs)and lastly an annihilation of the second most talked about team in the country...err, SEC, freakin Alabama.
What goddamn more do you freaking need to do...join the SEC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|4 years 48 weeks ago||linebackers||
I'll take cato june, lamaar woodley,ian gold, dhani jones, shawn crable, larry foote,david harris,pierre woods and victor hobson over any other schools best at linebacker.

does anyone recall early in the game when the gentle giant fluker was manhandled by a mean and nasty undersized defensive end? just wondering who that was. my guess is either chris bonds or donte moss.
as for gibbons, I recall after the xpoint was blocked someone on the west team tried to return and was smacked down near sideline on a ferocious hit. could that have been gibbons? sorry for not being attentive as I was in a campbell selection haze.

|5 years 3 weeks ago||last years defense||
how good a coach is shafer . minus crable, adams, and chris graham from last years defense it looked promising... unless u look at the over 2,000 rushing yards given up by last years defense.that's right over 2,000 yards rushing by opposing offenses.the fact is it was mediocre last year and worse this year. factor in that the offense kept the defense off the field more last year and it points to the obvious,bad defense for this year.the formula is simple, a more ineffective offense this year, led to an even worse defense this year. the jury is still out on shafer.

|5 years 4 weeks ago||turnovers||
ohio st. is +11 in big ten play, mich. is -4. michigan has to win the turnover and special teams battle to have a chance in this game. can mich. do it?? I hope so.MICH 20-TOSU 16.

if I was gay, which I'm not,I would describe u as exotic. so enquiring minds want to know...native american...fillipino??
|5 years 4 weeks ago||comparisons||
in regards to the difference between ohio st. and mich this year the one stat that jumps out in big ten play has been turnovers.currently ohio st. is +11, while mich. is -4.do the math.that's a 15 turnover difference over 7 games. 2.13 more turnovers per big ten game.so obviously win the turnover battle, a litle bit of luck on special teams, play as well as purdue's defense(can be done), and u have a winning formula.not as far-fetched a scenario as what came out of these 2 clowns. MICHIGAN 20 OHIO ST. 16
|5 years 5 weeks ago||next year||
rich rod is determined to run his offense that put him in a position of winning a nchamp last year at wv..the only qb we currently have to run that is feagin. next year hopefully there will be 3. on the other hand if rr changes it up to include a more accurate threat in the passing game than I can see threet in the mix.
