Request a copy of her medical records from both the cardiologist and ER, then bring them to a lawyer for a consult. HIPAA guarantees your mom (or you, if she designates you) the right to a copy of the records.

I want to point out that…

I want to point out that anyone having chest pain should NOT drive themselves to the hospital. Call 911. You get to the hospital faster, you get to the correct hospital (not all hospitals have interventional cardiac cath labs, which is what you need for this), the EMTs and paramedics can begin diagnosis and treatment as soon as they pick you up, and you don't risk having a heart attack on the way and crashing your car.

That said, I'm glad you're okay! Make sure to get yourself a cardiologist (if you don't have one) and see them regularly.

I loved Baits. It's quiet and there are non-communal bathrooms. No dining hall but Bursley is just a few minutes walk away.

Glenlivet 12 (the "standard" one) would be my choice for an introduction to Scotch. No ice cubes allowed.

Assuming you live in

Assuming you live in Michigan, take the in-state tuition and save the rest of the trust for grad school down the line (MBA or what have you).

But college football is irrelevant in NYC except for the Heisman

I mean, sure, there are fans of all sorts of teams because people from everywhere move to NY after college. But the city doesn't have its own college football team. It's an NFL town.

This should be pretty

This should be interesting given that NY doesn't have a college football team. (As a native I feel pretty comfortable saying that Rutgers doesn't count.)

Got a bank account?

Your money is already 1s and 0s.

Satellite is really the only

Satellite is really the only option if you live off the cable grid and your phone provider doesn't offer reliable DSL. I have friends in far rural Vermont and they use HughesNet. Visited them last week - not great but it's much better than quasi-dialup.

Your last sentence may be

Your last sentence may be correct - although I haven't seen research on that - but it's irrelevant. It is impossible to "alkalinize" your body by drinking water with baking soda or alkaline minerals or whatever. Your body constantly corrects its own pH because you can only live if your blood is between pH ~7.35 and ~7.45. So even if you did succeed somehow in alkalinizing yourself, you would be dead.

Crab cakes and Ravens football

Nobody here cares about the Terps.

Edit: Or Redskins if you live near DC. Still not the Terps.

Agree

Give this resident some points. I work as a researcher at JHU School of Medicine - the faculty are fantastic and it's a great place to work. I can't say I like Baltimore, because I really don't, but it is an excellent place to train and learn.

You don't work in medicine

The hospital is legally obligated (by HIPAA) to ensure privacy of his medical records. So yes, it's completely different from the other situations you listed.

Nix is now a band director

Nix is now a band director elsewhere. Unlikely that he comes back to be an assistant band director at UM.

Morningside Heights

Morningside Heights (Columbia) and the NYU area both used to be pretty awful. It's only in the last 20 years or so that they aren't scary any more.

No.

No. Not as bad as Rutgers would be, though.

I don't think it really works that way

What makes you think that Ohio *hasn't* been preparing for Denard at RB?

He looks absolutely fearless

For one thing. On the return right after he got blown up around the 15 (was that the Dee Hart one?), he caught the ball, accelerated straight up the middle of the field, and crossed the 30. Pretty impressive. He definitely needs to get stronger, but that's to be expected given that he's a true freshman.

Agree with this

The Yankees don't really need his bat, and the price doesn't matter a whole lot. They need some better defense in left field and maybe a bit of baserunning - Ichiro can do both. I'm still not a huge fan of the trade, but I can at least understand where the Yankees are coming from.

As stated in previous threads on this subject...

This line of reasoning doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If this had come out sooner, players would have left and PSU would have had a lot of trouble recruiting. Therefore, the cover-up *did* give PSU a competitive advantage, and it falls under the NCAA's purview. The cover-up is what the NCAA should really be taking aim at here.

Start at the top

There are a lot of tiny details and hints that didn't make it to the show, mainly because the world of the books is so gigantic. The books seem long, but they're quick reads - you can do each one in a few weeks if you read a lot. I'm rereading them all right now so I can read ADWD, and I'm not regretting it.

I'll second Vietnamese -

I'll second Vietnamese - there are a number of good places in-between downtown and the river.  Avoid Chinese food, though - I never found any places worth eating at in KC.

Lived there for two years in grad school

You want BBQ.  Best places are:Oklahoma Joe's, LC's, Woodyard, Arthur Bryant, Gates (preferably the one on Cleaver Blvd).  All of those are on the sketchy side except for Woodyard, but that's just the kind of town KC is when it comes to good BBQ.  If it's fancy BBQ (Jack Stack is the one that comes to mind), it's not worth eating.  Given that you have a small child and it's nighttime though, I would avoid LC's and Gates, as they are in the more questionable part of the city.  It also depends on what kind of BBQ you want.  OK Joe's has great pulled pork and ribs; LC's has the best burnt ends and fries in town; Woodyard has awesome smoked chicken; Arthur Bryant has pretty much amazing everything; Gates has great burnt ends and fries as well.  If you want a BBQ overdose, I would do OK Joe's tonight and LC's tomorrow for lunch.  You won't regret it.

This is true - Bursley

This is true - Bursley probably has the best food of any dining hall.  I lived in Baits, so that was the only time I had to go to Bursley (fortunately - I really didn't like that place otherwise).

Anybody saying that NC has no

Anybody saying that NC has no girls is clearly an engineer, not a musician.  I'm pretty sure the School of Music has more women than men.

I love North Campus and lived there for four years (Highlands!).  I miss walking around by the Huron River behind Baits I and playing Mafia on Friday nights in Baits II.  I don't know about the engineering and art schools, but the SoM is a really tight-knit community.  Plus, there's some great food if you can find it (Broadway Cafe, anyone?).

2008 Capital One Bowl

Michigan hired RR, spent some time in practice, came out firing in the shotgun, and put up 41 points and Henne's career-high in yardage.  It can work.

As other people have said

Those fumbles weren't gifts - the defense made them.  Eventually that's good coaching, not luck.  The astounding percentage of recoveries might be luck (although I'm even beginning to doubt that one), but the creation of fumbles is not at this point.

Thanks, I thought it was

Thanks, I thought it was points scored/opposing points scored.  So they have a chance!

Their scoring ratio

Is 47%, so they're still significantly better than 2005 Illinois.

This.  Also, if you want,

This.  Also, if you want, they will write down your preferences on a card and keep it in their file, so if you go back and can't remember what they did the first time (which always happens to me), they will know.

PSU

Penn State was averaging 18 before we played them, and then they went and hung 41 points on our D.  Take the victories where you find them.

You can't be judged for what

You can't be judged for what you do with somebody else's players trying to fit into your system.  Until RR's first recruiting class graduates and the team is composed of all people he recruited, it's all up in the air.

Seeing as I've been

Seeing as I've been registered for over two years, that would have to have been an awfully long moratorium.

Actually, the point is that

Actually, the point is that the current scheme allows for more big plays on defense.  We simply don't have the playmakers right now to play an aggressive defense, get TFLs, and force mistakes.  Being aggressive is going to lead to more big plays for the opposition than big plays for the defense, whereas our current mode of defense is attempting to force an opposing offense to run so many plays that they will eventually make a mistake by the law of averages.  Which, yeah, sometimes leads to 98 plays and 35 points.  The alternative is what we did to Indiana - 45 plays, 574 yards, 42 points, and a loss.

Time of possession doesn't

Time of possession doesn't work like that.  If we'd had the ball for 26:00 instead of ~18:00, there simply would have been fewer points on each side - the margin of victory would not have changed unless we could have come up with extra stops.  The best outcome that can happen on offense is to score every time you touch the ball, regardless of how many or few plays it takes.

Did you see Gardner's deep

Did you see Gardner's deep ball that was dropped?  It was a thing of beauty, and an exceptional throw for anybody - especially a freshman.  He looks a little tentative on his feet, but I was very impressed by his TD run at the end of the game.  Hurdling that last defender was pretty sweet.

2-pt conversions overall have

2-pt conversions overall have a success rate of ~45%, so less than half that of XPs (at least 95%, I think).  However, Lane Kiffin seems to believe otherwise.

The coaches, however, are

The coaches, however, are responsible for scheme issues like having the corners play one billion yards off the line on every down.

You HAVE to give the kicker a

You HAVE to give the kicker a second chance.  That's the only way to know if he can buckle down, get past the first miss, and nail the FG.  The second try tells the coach more than the first, I think.

Now, if he had gone to Gibbons a third time at the end of the game I would agree with you.  I think the second kick really told RR what he needed to know: Gibbons is a freshman and needs development time.

Don't forget Rudolph mocking

Don't forget Rudolph mocking Gordon (I think it was) and all but high-stepping into the end zone on the long TD.

This raises an interesting

This raises an interesting question: is it a problem if the correct read results in DR running the ball 25-35 times a game?  Presumably defenses will adjust and give him different reads eventually, but is there a point where he should hand off to save himself from 35 carries?

Michigan/Florida

If Michigan is #25, then the Gators should be unranked.  Playing like 2008 Michigan for three quarters against a team that won one game last year doesn't justify a ranking, regardless of where they started.

Cal over Michigan? Michigan has a significantly better top win, and their losses are not nearly as bad as Cal's. I don't know if Michigan should be ranked, but Cal definitely should not be. Then again, it does look like we have the best resume of the remaining teams, so...#25 Michigan? Maybe the bottom of the poll is just bad this year.
I firmly believe that RR I firmly believe that RR could have developed Pryor into a competent spread option quarterback. Pryor's in the wrong offense - although apparently he did say that he went to OSU because he wanted to develop into an NFL pocket passer. Next year we'll really know, since junior year is "the leap" a lot of the time for QBs.
Why would the Boise player Why would the Boise player have been suspended? Taunting is nothing out of the ordinary.
This is a great point. I This is a great point. I wish we didn't need all these goal-line stands, but so far we're tightening up when we need to on D, and preventing TDs in favor of field goals.
Nameless uniforms are usually Nameless uniforms are usually a tradition for a big school or pro team, where the idea is "we don't need the names because everybody knows (or should know) who our players are anyway." EMU doing it is pretty weird.
I'm not sure you've taken I'm not sure you've taken into account the dire personnel state of this defense. We have at least two walk-ons, a LB who is a converted safety (and is admittedly doing well), and far too many redshirt-freshman DBs. Also an MLB whom I really, really want to see do well, but manages to be five yards down the field every time. We really just don't have the horses to be a dominant defense right now, and scheming is not going to change that. As other commenters have said, Robinson appears to be using a "bend, don't break" philosophy. Normally I dislike this idea, but with this defense, it's basically the only option. The alternative is attacking all the time and giving up huge plays when the aggression doesn't pan out.
That's only legitimate for a That's only legitimate for a preseason poll. Ranking on perceived strength when games have already been played is just ridiculous, and ignores a good portion of what's happening on the field.
