MSU D > OSU O
Miller and Hyde will have their moments, to be sure, but I think Narduzzi will have a game plan for the ages.
|1 day 2 hours ago||I can argue for either||
If OSU wins, MSU probably ends up in the Rose Bowl, which bumps everyone else in the B1G up a bowl slot, including Michigan (good for us).
If MSU wins, the Buckeyes get knocked down a peg, and let's face it - with Sparty's epic defense this year, they've earned it.
|1 day 17 hours ago||Well....||
We could always start a thread about religion, politics and other social issues like that guy in the other thread. I'm sure that would help.
If that doesn't work, how about a thread on what to buy our wives for Christmas?
|1 day 20 hours ago||So....||
"Crotchless panties" was the right answer?
I'll show myself out....
|1 day 20 hours ago||Hey, let's bring up....||
Religion, too, since we're already talking politics.

|2 days 22 hours ago||Brian, welcome back||
After all the posts and threads and "will-he-or-won't-he" comments since Saturday afternoon, I'm very glad ... No ... genuinely moved to read your entry today. Maybe it's the sunshine today, maybe it's your high score in bowling (I believe M-Wolverine is right about the score only going to 100) maybe you and your wife remembered that you're also "Mr and Mrs" not just "Mommy and Daddy". But, whatever it was, you put a smile on my face with this blog.
My sincerest thanks.
P.S. Magnus and Space Coyote were right after all about yours not being a thankless job.
|3 days 34 min ago||Amen on the job/career analogy||
What you're searching for here is that someone is "consciously incompetent"; i.e., what they're doing isn't working, but they know why and have a plan to fix it. Until the OSU game, most of us assumed (based on the game results since Akron) that the HC and the OC were "UNconsciously incompetent;" i.e., they were screwing up by the numbers and had no idea how or why.
So, sure, measured by the W-L factor, Saturday's game was a failure: OSU won. But, it showed everyone (DB included, I'm sure) some evidence that this coaching staff COULD be the right one given additional time.
|3 days 2 hours ago||You're on the right track||
I think so, anyway, but I don't think being a parent is the distinguishing factor. More likely, it's a question of the context in which an individual puts sports (and it could just as easily be politics, religion, etc.).
Case in point: my wife, who is interested in sports (hockey and baseball) and is disappointed to see her teams lose, but a loss is just shrugged off. Politics, on the other hand ... wow, don't get her started if her "team" isn't in the White House, both houses of Congress, etc. She prepares for life as we know it to end.
I'm sure we all have a topic that sends us off the deep end. Mine is a poorly made pizza.
|3 days 21 hours ago||I can't stand either MSU or OSU||
And while I would love to see Urbz eat crow next week, I have to admit that I would be overjoyed to see Bama frozen out of the BCS Championship. For that reason alone, I will side with the Buckeyes next week against Sparty, and hope for a FSU-OSU final game.
|3 days 23 hours ago||You're awesome||
Seriously. I thought about the parenting equivalence to this blog but didn't write it. Thanks for noting what is (to me) an obvious analogy.
|3 days 23 hours ago||I don't fault him at all||
I wouldn't want to UFR a loss, either; especially one that could have been summed up by two words: "We SUCKED." It has got to be a miserable, thankless job.
To paraphrase Bill Cosby (speaking of his wife's experience): I've seen the boss's job ... And I don't want it!
|3 days 23 hours ago||Rules are rules||
MSU had 3 losses that season (including the loss in the B1G championship game). That's an automatic disqualifer for a BCS at-large berth.
|4 days 23 min ago||And rightly so...||
The guy is a certifiable asshole, but he's a very, very good coach. He's been trumpeting the fact that, in the past four years, MSU has won 40 games. And he's been to the B1G championship twice in its three-year existence. Our team should be so lucky. No, he hasn't made a BCS game - yet - but win next week, and he's Rose Bowl-bound.

Taken in a vacuum, that tweet might not seem like a really big deal (it probably isn't). However, god help the unfortunate dumb ass who snaps the thread reining in Brian's (or anyone's) levity. After all of the vitriol spewing about this season, directed this way and that, it's no wonder that Brian had finally had enough. We all have those moments.

|4 days 12 hours ago||"Numbness" doesn't last long||
When Brian posted his "let's go bowling" entry, he described a state of emotional numbness that perfectly applied to me as well. However, as today's game demonstrated, it doesn't last long.
As long I as I paid no attention to the game, I was fine. However, I got to my local gym for some exercise and saw the score tied at the half. I couldn't believe it. Suddenly, that studied, practiced and endorsed detachment evaporated. We might actually win this thing! Then we were down two TDs... Shit. Same old story. Then the tie. And again we were down needing a tie. And then down just one. And then... you know what happened next.
So, while Brady Hoke & Co have nothing to do with a decade of frustration, it sure is tough remaining positive when That School Down South seems to have your number for more than a decade. And now that School in East Lansing seems to be in an ascendancy. Damn it all to Hell.
I suppose the stupidity and constant vitriol directed at Brian is human nature and borne out of incredible frustration. However, to paraphrase a certain gridiron philosopher, "We shouldn't be CRITICIZING each other, we should be ENCOURAGING each other!"
|4 days 13 hours ago||On that point we agree||
I find myself skipping past the worst of the diatribe. I find that the best way to get a troll to move on is to starve it of sustenance.
|4 days 13 hours ago||Not sure I agree here||
I suppose one could vent on Facebook or Twitter, but where, except a U-M fan site, is someone going to get an audience of like-minded individuals? I don't know about you, but my list of FB friends include quite a number of MSU and OSU grads. Venting on FB is inviting the opposite of sympathy.
|4 days 13 hours ago||A Jan 1 bowl||
Would be very nice, but unlikely. I know, I know, we went to the Gator Bowl a few years back at 7-5, but we laid the Humpty Dumpty of eggs at that game.
This is going to sound crazy, but I am somewhat hoping for Little Caesars. I have never seen Michigan play in the post season and there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that my wife would let me spend the money to go now that we have Catholic school for our son next year and college for our daughter in two years. Ford Field is the best I can hope for, as sad as that is to write.

In Bolivia. Because that would be practically Shakespearean in its ironic awesomeness. It would be played on Feb 30 because of the time zone difference. Filling the stands would be all of the previously banned MGoContributors. Dave Brandon would be giving free t-shirts with pictures of Henri to those who made the trip, which would not include the band because obviously.
|1 week 1 day ago||Cowards?||
Fair weather fans? Fickle? No.
It's not like this is a single down season amidst an otherwise unbroken string of championships, BCS bowl appearences, etc. We're talking about a program that has been schooled by our biggest rivals (save Notre Dame) almost each year since, well, 2008. That's six seasons ago for those of you playing at home.
Except for a single, two-loss season in 2006, we're looking at mediocrity stretching back for more than a decade, all the while "bearing witness," in exchange for the privilege of getting our pockets picked.
And it's not like Hoke didn't himself acknowledge in his first press conference that Michigan fans should expect more from the program. After all, he was the one who said, "This is Michigan, fergodsakes."
|1 week 1 day ago||That was the very best||
"Fuck-You-and-the-Horse-You-Rode-Into-Town" that I have ever read, and I could not agree more. Well done.
|1 week 2 days ago||We'll always have||
Josh Groban. Hoke won't. That will be enough (probably) to save him.
|1 week 2 days ago||This has merit||
But the question is whether a "managerial" coach like Hoke is capable of doing that. With Beilein's change from a 1-3-1, he was making a change to his own basic philosophy. It came to Michigan with him; it wasn't a "system" that another coach pressed upon him, or that he was convinced to run by someone else.
The "soul-searching" part, though ... Yeah, Hoke needs more than a little of that.
