I think this article is a great demonstration of why Harbaugh is meant to be a college coach. I'm sure at the pro-level, there's a lot more push back to these types of methods. In college, guys are still learning and they're more likely to soak this up and benefit. I'm so glad Harbaugh decided to come back to Michigan and I'm sure he'll be successful here with his methods.

Good luck to him. One would hope that his having past concussions will lead all parties involved to view this as a medical scholarship and finish his degree without cost. Realistically, this should be a standard option for any player who decides the risk is too great (mid career) and wants to walk away.

Big deal. He'll plead no contest, pay his fine and move on. Sometimes I really hate that these kids can't just be college students when it comes to their own lives.

This support staff guy could just be chillin' to the Victors outside any high school football field.

Red is the last man standing. Let him retire before we decide who to hire as our next coach.

Michigan. But I will say I'm glad he went to the NFL, proved he's an amazing coach at the pro level and is at Michigan now. I think his negative experience in the pros (having stupid ownership/not having more roster control) and his warm homecoming to Ann Arbor will keep him here for a long long time.

Wow. That's awful. The GM can't keep a straight face listening to that guy. It's like major league over there. Actually, the plot isn't that different from what the 49ers are doing. Maybe they want to move the team.

This story is amazing. I can't imagine a team making worse decisions than SF has made this offseason. Getting rid of Harbaugh so you can go back to basics? Here's a basic lesson that all NFL owners should understand: let football people make football decisions and stay out of their way.

Funny to hear a guy who's team schedules FCS teams on a regular basis complain about a matchup being unsafe for players.
|1 week 5 days ago||Yeah, that's what I mean.||
Yeah, that's what I mean. Guys who are grad transfers can only be so good, or they'd be going into the draft. Rudock probably won't come to Michigan and set the conference on fire and go on to win a Super Bowl in the NFL, but I doubt anyone would have predicted that from Wilson before it happened.
|1 week 5 days ago||Another, admittedly obvious,||
Another, admittedly obvious, point is that if Wilson had been that great at NCST, he wouldn't have needed to transfer to Wisconsin. I certainly won't complain if we get Rudock. He may not turn out to be a great QB, but he's played, and that's a bonus at this point.

To be honest, even I'm not sure what I was trying to say andI think I overstated what I was trying to say. No frustration, just musings about our strength of schedule. I definitely do not think we should be in the tourney with our record.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I understand that's what||
I understand that's what they're doing. But it's the only sport that does that. Maybe it's fine with many people because there's 68 teams, but if you proposed this in football, people would say it was the dumbest idea ever.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I have never understood the||
I have never understood the ncaa tourney selection process. There are 68 teams, but Michigan doesn't qualify? It was a relatively awful season for Michigan, but we played a challenging schedule that included two projected #1 seeds and two projected #2 seeds. We also didn't lose most of those games by much. Michigan is definitely one of the top 68 teams. You put us in the tourney as team 68, we'd crush number 67, or at least take it to OT. Might bring more interest to the play-in game.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Good points. I think the||
Good points. I think the thing that gets lost in the burned redshirt discussion is that you only play 4 years on the field. If you play a minor role in your first year as a true freshman or as a redshirt freshman, it's probably the same path forward for years two and beyond. Not redshirting may mean more reps in practice, more attention from the coaches, etc. The real thing that probably suffers is if guys can't perform because they're too small or whatever and would have benefited tremendously from that extra year in the college program before their redshirt year.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||For all we know, what Hoke||
For all we know, what Hoke was doing could be the standard in college. Harbaugh does things the way that breeds success at the NFL level and uses methods that he's proven work at the NFL level. His coordinators and staff have almost all coached at the NFL level too, so they're probably used to dealing with professionals. I love the fact that Harbaugh is bringing that to Michigan. I'd like to believe that this is new to Michigan because it's not what the standard is in college, and Harbaugh brings an NFL mentality and style with him to Michigan.

With all due respect to the other QBs on the Michigan roster, if he can't win the starting job next year for Michigan, he should not be thinking about playing in the NFL. Either way, a grad degree from Michigan (or one year) is a better consolation prize than he's going to get anywhere else, in the likely event that his NFL career isn't successful.

To be honest, that other stuff you mention is window dressing. Identifying we needed Harbaugh was nice. Getting it done is why he should have the AD job forever.

Force teams to make decisions before the free agent signing period so players have a chance to catch on with another team. Otherwise the team could hold you until the free agency period was over, then cut you to lower your value (or try and force you to resign at a lower rate).

"Make a pledge, for example, that if they win you will give $20?"
How about if some rich booster pledges big money to Braxton Miller player if they lose the Michigan game? How about a couple thousand for a basketball player to score less than their season average in a big time game.
Seems totally legit, they don't get the money until after they graduate. No one has ever gotten in trouble for this scheme before.
