Sort of amazing that Fred Jackson was the OC and Greg Mattison was the DC on that 1996 team.

Is their definition of favorable that you like them or they're a good character. I think most would say that Darth Vader is an excellent character, but many people probably don't like him. Jar jar is an awful character and unliked.

Every year there are hype videos where the offense makes a great play or the defense makes a great play. I'm never sure whether to be excited or disappointed. Finally a video has both players playing great. These two could both be the best in the B1G at their positions at some point in their careers.

I'd prefer more one and dones go this route. IMO, hey hurt MBB and I think the sport is better without them.

The giant Miami scoreboard just hides the fact that no one is at the game. they only average 47,000 for a 75,000 seat stadium.

That's turrible. I think he's on the team in four years, but maybe as the backup.

I expect the NCAA should work damn hard to figure out if there's academic fraud here and come down hard if there is. IMO, it goes to the heart of their case in court, they say players are students first. Them not enforcing penalties for payments doesn't hurt them as much as not enforcing academic fraud. I suspect that arguement in the court case is worth more to them than even the cash cow that is UNC basketball.

The Padres are AWFUL. They have the fewest runs scored of any team by 50 runs. Getting a no-hitter vs. that team is just not that great.

I agree with this. People leave college all the time to pursue professional careers, the idea that the university should still be obligated to pay for their college is surprising. But, if the university presidents want to do it, so be it.

I'd like to see the bar set based on big 10 wins. IIRC, Bo and Carr never had losing seasons in the big 10. No matter who was on those teams or how young they were. Since, then we've only had 2 winning seasons. That has to change this year. No excuses.
|6 weeks 23 hours ago||- I miss throwing||
- I miss throwing marshmallows at games.
- I don't care if the team wears uniformz, even the ones with the stripes. I'll watch Michigan playing in pink if that's what they wear. Just win games.
- I like Hoke and want him to succeed at Michigan, but I don't know if he's a good enough coach to win in the Big 10. I'm also not sure the smash-mouth football brand he wants to bring back can be consistently successful in college football these days.
- I think DB cares too much about selling the Michigan Brand and not enough about the quality of that brand.
- I think we gave up on the spread too early.
- I want Mattison to leave. Teams always win a championship the year after he leaves.

I'd imagine they could find an open field that's actually on the border so that each team defends their home territory. The fans could just stand on their respective ends and never have to set foot in the other state. They'd definitely have to not switch ends between quarters though.

Nice write up. I still think that some of the arguements only make sense if you can seperate the revenue and non-revenue sports. Some non-revenue sports are on tv too, but almost certainly not at a profit. do those players get TV money, and do networks still show those sports on TV if someone has to pay extra for them?
Also, I think there is a real arguement to be made for lack of competitive balance if players are paid for use of their likeness. the fact is that being the qb at Alabama on its own elevates your status more than being qb at middle Tennessee st. If a player is compensated based on that value monetarily, i think that impacts the choice to go to middle Tennessee st further.
Further, being qb at bama raises your profile regardless of who you are, even before you play a game. Since coaches make these decisions, they should get a cut of the players' likeness revenue. This seems like a conflict of interest, but it's hard to argue they didn't have a critical role in putting the player in the position to make revenue. The schools will also want to get a direct cut. When I write a grant for funding, the institution takes 50-65% for overhead, I kind of see them doing the same here if players get paid directly for use of their likeness.
The institution would argue: being QB at bama puts you in a position to make revenue off your likeness more so than being the qb at middle tennessee st. the team negotiated the schedule, the tv contract is with the team, the fans come to see the team, the coach (who is employed by the school) is putting you into the game, etc. Maybe teams can negotiate this percentage based on the profile that their position offers you for branding your likeness, but i can't see Michigan wanting less than bama or OSU or oregon or USC. You're now essentially making money off their brand, they'll want a cut.
