It is very likely Price will be playing the OG position.  He has talked about it a couple times in interviews about how OSU will try him out on both sides to see where he fits.  Based on the numbers (and the good overall DL haul), my money is on him ending up on OL.

He was a 5th round pick.  I

He was a 5th round pick.  I would wager to say he has (is) lasted much longer than the average 5th round pick in the NFL.

Although I'm not sure how his lack of performance in the NFL in any way is a reflexion of how overrated he was as a college football QB.  Kellen Moore didn't even get drafted, and he is one of the most accurate passers in college football history.

Elaydin's comment above makes

Elaydin's comment above makes this discussion moot (OSU has confirmed that the NCAA has seen the e-mails in question), but I just wanted to clarify what I meant.  You asked:

"You claim "multiple people outside of the athletic department know of the contents of the emails".  Really?  Why?  What if the only two people who knew the content were Smith and Gee himself."

The e-mails were specifically reviewed by the compliance department before the suit began, and then by the legal department after the suit was brought forth (which could also include any outside counsel).  So this would imply multiple people know of its contents across multiple OSU departments.

I think you are looking far

I think you are looking far too much into this.  If there was a "smoking gun" in the e-mail, why would OSU risk not giving it over to the NCAA knowing there was a distinct possibility it could become public as a result of this lawsuit?  Multiple people at OSU (including those outside of the athletic department) know the contents of that e-mail as a result of this lawsuit - and I believe the judges do too.  Every employee at OSU aware of the contents of that e-mail is risking his job by not properly reporting any violation or submitting the e-mails to the NCAA.  I can assure you that the NCAA has seen the e-mails if they are in any way relevant.

And it would also be completely illogical for OSU to turn over the Tressel emails voluntarily that started this whole scandal, yet now decide to start a institution wide coverup.

Bottom line is that OSU's fight against ESPN transcends the OSU football program and this particular scandal; it is a very important privacy issue that could set precedent for ALL universities moving forward.  This is not simply OSU vs. ESPN - this is all public universities vs. the media - as can be seen by the amicus briefs in support of OSU.  Trust me, Michigan's legal department is just as happy with this result as OSU is.

Hey OP, can we get your

Hey OP, can we get your brilliant anaylsis of this picture too?

Obviously, Meyer has absolutely no respect for people that ask to take pictures of him, and selfishly focuses on pleasing himself with food - he clearly didn't even thank the cooks for the food.  Hoke, ever the Michigan Man, takes time out of his favorite past-time to acknowledge the nice gentleman asking for a picture - showing how down to earth he is.

I would make the complete

I would make the complete opposite argument.  The team class ranking is based on that year alone.  Just because those 8 players aren't a 5/4star does not mean they won't be elite.

I would rather have 8 3-star players that each have a 20% chance (pulling that number out of my ass) of being all-conference compared to 0 players with no chance of any good players.

And this is exactly why oversigning is such a big competitive advantage.  Just looking at in terms of odds, having more players (even if they are 3-stars) increases your overall chances of having studs in the class.  Much larger margin for error.

Btw, the @JhallOSU account

Btw, the @JhallOSU account you quoted above is just some random person (not on the team) - that's not Jordan Hall (who is @Jordan_Hall7).

What an idiot

That kid got in trouble multiple times with the law and got a DUI right before Meyer came on.  How does he have any room to complain or play the victim card, especially comparing it to a couple kids peeing on a wall?

Can you also recall what you

Can you also recall what you called Hoke when he was recruiting OSU verbals Dunn and Kalis last year? "Poaching" recruits is not the issue.

I'm usually not one to wear a

I'm usually not one to wear a tin-foil hat when it comes to sports conspiracies, but it is imprudent to dismiss rankings tampering for the purposes of driving up subscribers since it has been proven to happen before.

I forget the scout's name, but a couple years ago, a former Rivals employees admitted that Alabama recruits were all bumped up in the rankings to appease the Albama subscriber base - the largest fan base out of all the Rival premium sites.  He was fired shortly after that.

I'm sure the vast majority of the scouts for these sites do their work honestly, but it doesn't mean there aren't external factors other than pure football ability that ultimately decide the rankings - either on a conscience or subconscience level.

A bit of 24/7 movement

There was some more very slight movement in 24/7 very recently:

  • Ben Gedeon dropped form 171 to 174
  • Deveon Smith went up from 231 to 229
OSU Recruits

For anyone interested, this is what happened to OSU recruits:

  • Cameron Burrows dropped from 7 to 13
  • Eli Woodard went up from 28 to 19
  • Joey Bosa dropped from 14 to 20
  • Jalin Marshall dropped from 41 to 48
  • Evan lisle droped from 83 to out of the top 100.

I haven't gone through the numbers, but I'm going to make the relatively safe assumption that uncommitted players got a significant higher bump than committed players.  It might be shady practice, but Rivals is a business and creating more top prospect drama over the next few months drives subscribers.

Also, I made a Google spreadsheet comparing OSU and Michigan classes if anyone wants to compare the rankings across the 4 main services:  Spreadsheet - updated as of today.

It's not a list of who has

It's not a list of who has done the best coaching in the Big Ten league - it's a list of who are the best coaches that happen to coach in the Big Ten.

And I'm not sure the argument saying he has to prove it in the BigTen really holds much water - even the biggest BigTen homers would admit the SEC has been the best conference over the past 6-8 years.  If you succeed in the top tier of football, it is a safe assumption you will do fine in a lower tier (even if there is a different style of play).

Florida has 14 starters

Florida has 14 starters coming back - so it's not really a surprise that they don't have many picks yet.  Next year will have quite a few top picks.

Definitely

He is as big of a homer as it gets (but I don't think he pretends to be otherwise - he is just a "fan" with connections, instead of a recruiting analyst), but I've learned to just focus on the information and take his additional commentary with a grain of salt.  Bill Greene is a great recruiting analyst though.

Nevada is usually right on

Heureman essentially told other recruits and the staff that he was committing to OSU this week.  He obviously had a change of heart, which is fine - but the information was legit.

There are many not-so-nice things to say about Nevada, but his information when it comes to OSU recruiting is as good as it gets.

Heureman is a tough loss since he seems like a great kid, but having Baugh in this class takes a lot of the sting away in terms fo the impact on the TE position.  Hopefully we use the spot for an OL or WR instead.

OSU fan here

I like Hoke and his overall attitude towards the rivalry and college football (no, sorry guys, the Ohio thing doesn't bother me) - but I wouldn't go so far as to say that I would rather have him over Meyer.

If you are just looking at pure football results, there is no arguing that Meyer is light years ahead of Hoke at the moment.  While Hoke is more similar to traditional Michigan/OSU coaches, Meyer brings an intensity level that is very similar to what Woody was like.  Some fans prefer that intense approach moreso than the traditional Hoke/Carr/Tressel approach.

However, if all else being equal (namely past football results), I, personally, would prefer the traditional Hoke approach over Meyer simply because it breeds stability.  The past few months have certainly been exciting, but I'm not sure how sustainable it is.

So to answer your question: no, I would wager 95%+ of OSU fans would rather have Meyer - but that's a testament to his past results more than anything.

You posted a picture of his

You posted a picture of his parents at an exotic dancing competition - something that has literally nothing to do with anything.  Sure, it's a fact that it exists - but it doesn't make it appropriate.  If you can't see why, then this isn't a discussion worth continuing.

Too far

Damn, this is a 16-year-old kid and you are dragging his mom into this?  Not cool, man.  Recruits read forums.

Highlights

For anyone interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W6zxtCTsGI

I'm far from a recruiting expert, but Barrett, Zaire, and Chapman all looked equally good to me.  Obviously OSU staff felt differently - otherwise I would hope they would give the edge to players from Ohio (Zaire/Chapman) over players from outside of the midwest, with all else being equal.

Hold that thought

... We (OSU) are likely going to pick up a commitment from Courtney Love pretty soon.  Don't mess with us.

I think the bigger "WOW"

I think the bigger "WOW" should go to the fact that there is 11 Michigan players in the Top 150.

Doubt it

Goodman has been absolutely lights out in breaking transfers and NBA draft entrants this season.  He has been ahead of everyone regardless of what school.  Guy is at the top of the game.

No, the bottom line is that

No, the bottom line is that SportsByBrooks is an idiot.

Meyer didn't lie about anything - nowhere is this "Circle of Trust" credited to him.  It was the analogy used by both those journalists as a pop culture reference.  And as Brooks is wont to do, he distorts reality to try to get a "Gotcha!" journalism moment.

One of the authors, Austin Murphy, even took to Twitter now to point out Brooks idiocy, and made it clear that Meyer never said it.

It's disappointing that after reading the first 50 posts in this thread, not a single person [Edit: my mistake, 2 people pointed it out above this] has pointed out this blatant error (although calling it an error would be giving too much credit to Brooks, since he obviously did it on purpose).

I think you are taking that

I think you are taking that site far too seriously.

The article is wrong.

The article is wrong.  "Bumping" is not illegal, and used (abused?) by a bunch of coaches.

Hard to take this article seriously when the author conveniently forgets to even mention that the AD of Wisconsin released a statement saying that Bielema was mistaken and there were no recruiting violations, and that Delany released a similar statement after meeting with both sides.

Just baseless rumors

It doesn't make any sense that the Sullingers would be pushing for Trey to come out.  If anything, after the Final Four run that OSU had, Sullinger would be encouraging Trey to come back because Michigan would have a chance to do something special as well.

Satch Sullinger was telling his son he wasn't ready for the NBA last year (when he was a vritual Top 5 lock), but now you believe he would be telling Burke, someone who he sees as another son, that he is ready for the NBA despite there being little chance he would be a 1st round pick?  Makes absolutely no sense.

If Burke decides to leave, it will be 100% his decision.

OSU perspective

Well, Craft has already stated he is coming back next year (and even said so while laughing because I don't think he even considered an alternative).

I think the gushing over Craft as opposed to Burke has to do with the NCAA tournament - Craft's profile went up ten-fold over the past few weeks with the national spotlight.  Burke had an amazing season, but it ended on a bad note with the early exit and relatively poor performance against Ohio.

Here is the thing about Craft.  I love the kid, but I just don't see him being anything more than a benchwarmer in the NBA.  His biggest attribute is his on-the-ball permieter defense - and that skill will be VERY marginilzed in the NBA due to the much stricter hand-checking rules.  With NBA refs/rules, he commits an average of 28.4 fouls per game (might be an exaggeration).  I'm sure he would adjust, but he wouldn't be nearly as dominant defensively.  Other than that, relative to other NBA PGs, he would be below average at ball-handling, passing, shooting, and driving.  In other words, he would be a huge liability on the offensive end.

I do expect him to be drafted after his senior year simply due to his tenacity and defense, but I think Burke's game translates much better to the NBA than Craft's.

To be fair, most of that

To be fair, most of that "spread doesn't work in the B1G" comments came after Michigan went 3-9.  If Meyer finshes 6-6 or worse, I'm sure you'll have even more OSU fans saying the same thing.

J.T. Barrett is/was the top

J.T. Barrett is/was the top QB on OSU's board - not sure where you are getting your info.

Meyer told both Zaire and Trapman (another highly ranked instate QB) to come to camp this summer. Zaire's offer was given by the previous staff, so I can understand why he doesnt feel like auditioning for the new staff.  Trapman will likely come to camp.

I personally think Zaire's tape is amazing, and was hoping he'd eventually end up a Buckeye.  This is kinda a bummer.  Hopefully we'll get Barrett but that's far from a lock at this point.

Out of state top targets are

Out of state top targets are Jaylon Smith (#1 overall target), Anzalone, Kimbrough -- in that order.  A couple more on our radar, but those seem to be the most likely targets.

We have 2 offers to in-state LBers - Courtney Love and Ben Gedeon - these are likely committable offers. This is why McCray's lack of offer is so puzzling; McCray is ranked highed than both by every recruiting service.

As an OSU fan, I'm also

As an OSU fan, I'm also puzzled why Meyer has yet to offer.  He may be slow-playing him, which seems like a risky gamble.  McCray setting an announcment date could be his way of forcing OSU's hand - 'either offer me now or you are out' deal.

I can, however, confidently rule out the last two options you set forth: McCray's dad played for OSU.

I can see the problem being

I can see the problem being that - if he made that comment - it is not factual.  There were 30 arrests -- not 30 felonies.  That's an enormous difference.

So similar to how Brian

So similar to how Brian decided not to include scholarship kickers/snappers in his computation?  Although I think the difference is that the sign did not have any qualifiers saying "Ohio State Scholarship Players", while Brian explicitly stated he was counting scholarship players.  The first may be misleading, but the latter is most certainly misinformation.

Yea, I failed to see what

Yea, I failed to see what part of the sign is a "bald-faced lie" as Brian started the post with.  Selective information, and potentially misleading? Sure.  But I didn't see where the lie is.  If OSU claimed to have 20 engineers, then it would have been a lie.

I would say Texas is by far

I would say Texas is by far the easiest school to recruit for.  But OSU is certaintly in the top 5 easiest.

What presser is everyone

What presser is everyone talking about?  He never had a presser about any of this, or made any type of announcement about this.

I think the confusion stems from a Michigan radio show saying they were giving a story at 4:30pm on Meyer's treatment of Michigan's name -- and then that somehow got translated into Meyer holding a presser at 4:30pm.

As an OSU fan, I couldn't care less what Meyer chooses to call Michigan (just like I don't care what Hoke calls OSU) -- but I like that both coaches recognize the importance of the rivalry and signify that importance in any way they deem fit.  RichRod and Cooper can fuck off.

If you read the entire

If you read the entire interview, the point is that anybody good enough to see any playing time their freshman year will play that year.  It means that they won't be "saving" players for their 5th year - a common tactic if a team is loaded at a position.

No, that doesn't mean there won't be any redshirts.  It means they will only be used if that player is not good enough to see any playing time at all.

He did the same thing in Florida - but there were still obviously redshirts.

I think you need a refresher

I think you need a refresher on OSU-UM history.  Do you remember Woody Hayes?

And tried to get Dunn.  As an

And tried to get Dunn.  As an OSU fan, I have no problem whatsoever with other schools trying to get our commits if those commits are showing interest.  These are high school kids that deserve to have every option in front of them.

Excuse me if I don't share the same outrage as MSU/Wisconsin coaches - especially when coaches quit on their team for new jobs at every single opportunity.  Hearing coaches talk about "commitmment" is laughable.  Half of Wisconsin's coaching staff left - yet Bielema is admonished that high school kids are allowed to change their mind?

You've made a similar comment

You've made a similar comment multiple times in this thread already.  I usually stay out of these threads because no one wants to see an OSU fan right now - but this topic of scholarship numbers for OSU has been discussed ad nauseam.  OSU will easily, easily,  meet the 82 scholarship number - and would be able to do so if 4 more players committed.  There will be no "cutting" or SEC-tactics.  Okay, now that I've vented, I'll go back to lurking. Cheers.

Doug is a very good beat

Doug is a very good beat writer - and he certainly doesn't report with scarlet and grey blinders on.  He was tough, but fair, throughout the entire scandal the past year.  No animosity between Doug and OSU that I know of.

There's no doubt he is doing

There's no doubt he is doing this to get people to quit that aren't fully committed.  But it's not like he's only forcing below average players to go through these workouts.  His goal here isn't to weed out unwanted players -- it's to weed out players that aren't 110% committed to the the new system - whether they be studs or scrubs.

Roger Lewis is the man you

Roger Lewis is the man you are talking about, and he will not be able to qualify academically for the Big Ten.  OSU told him to go to prep school (Fork Union) for a year, with a guaranteed spot in the 2013 class.  He will likely choose Ohio U. -  where he will still be able to enroll even if he does not qualify for NCAA because of the laxer rules in the MAC.   I can't really blame him.

Hate on OSU all you want, but

Hate on OSU all you want, but saying they have "shitty academics" that alines them more with the SEC than the Big Ten is ignorant, and undermines anything else you have to say.  They are exactly middle of the road in the Big Ten in academic rankings.

Yea, those comments show that

Yea, those comments show that Reeves cares a lot about education.  In most cases, that would give Michigan a significant advantage over OSU - but the caveat in this situation is that OSU has the exact major that Reeves wants and Michigan does not.  So it could end up being a wash.  Either way - it seems like Reeves is a good kid and either school would be lucky to get him.

Very confident on Dodson (as

Very confident on Dodson (as in, near certainty based on what insiders are saying), but Reeves is still very much up in the air.  No feel on him either way - as close to 50/50 as it gets.

In terms of spots, OSU still has plenty due to attrition (already announced publicly, and future transfers that haven't been made public yet).  They will accept as many as want to come.  If I had to guess, I would say 4 more players - making it a class total of 26 once you figure in Roger Lewis going the JUCO route.

I usually hate when fellow

I usually hate when fellow OSU fans play the "OH WE DIDN'T WANT HIM ANYWAY" game, but this is a case where the OSU fanbase wanted him, but the coaching staff didn't.  There has been zero contact between OSU and Diamond since his official visit more than a month ago.  It's possible that it was a mutual decision, but the recruitment certainly ceased a while ago.  So while us fans may have been saying we have wanted him along - it's certainly not what the OSU program was thinking.

I promise, this is the first and last time I play the "We didn't want him anyway" card.

For better or worse, Meyer is

For better or worse, Meyer is a relentless recruiter.  I can assure you that the fear of losing a recruiting game with Michigan would not deter him from going after a recruit.  Heck, he had/has no problem trying to go after Kalis and Dymonte - and they are about as solid to Michigan as it gets.

I disagree.  Brewster is a

I disagree.  Brewster is a reliable center and will have a LONG NFL career.

Mike Adams is physically unbelievable - he will be a top 20 pick for sure.
