I have two degrees from there and every class I took had retirees, single mothers, autoworkers, veterans, you name it, in the seats around me. It's incredibly vital on a societal level that we do not give up on folks who didn't know what they want to be when they were 18.
Last year I was dead convinced that the refs were intentionally calling anything they could on Michigan to "balance the game" due to our insanely loaded roster.
This year I'm just as convinced that they aren't doing it intentionally, they're just garbage at their jobs.
I'm up near Flint so I catch a bunch of Firebirds OHL games and the refs at that somewhat lateral move of a league are much better.
The day when whoever got the number came running up into the section before the game is etched in my mind.
"GUYS. I HAVE THE PHONE NUMBER FOR THE PENALTY BOX."
It was as serious a thing as I've ever seen in my 5 seasons there. We deliberated for like two months on when to best deploy it, knowing we'd likely only have one chance at it.
We decided the moment was when one of the Chelios kids were in the box one night vs State.
Some things that I've seen all season long is their inability to get the puck out of their own zone for minutes straight and a tendency to make the most boneheaded turnovers.
But worse, they leave men unchecked in the slot at an alarming rate. MSU had what, three last night at the Joe that were "guy just out there in front of Lavigne with nobody around him"
It puts a lot of pressure on a young offense to score when they're guaranteed to give up four a night because the fundamentals of defense are missing.
And we wonder why our best defensemen always go one and done. Almost feels like NHL teams are telling them to get out while they can still develop young.
Detroit and Windsor legitimately considered submitting a joint bid but the logistics of repeatedly getting people across the borders at that volume ended up being too much of a mess.
My Charter cable has 5 BTN "overflow" channels for when there are too many football games happening at once. This is only used for football. It's a simulcast of BTN prime the rest of the year. You're telling me the stuff they want me to pay extra for on BTN+ couldn't be run on those overflow channels?
We didn't deserve to win that one. More 3rd period turnovers than shots on goal for us. That said, we are supposed to crush bad teams, and we continue to drop points to them.
This is a conference we should be leading by 10 to 12 points, not down 2.

This game started getting chippy immediately after we tied it to start the 3rd. Maybe if the worthless officials in this conference would do their jobs correctly, we wouldn't take matters into our own hands.
The officiating in this conference is a fucking joke, and it's not one I find funny anymore. How did the Big Ten get all of the useless refs and linesmen from the CCHA split?
How does a man 2 feet from the play botch an icing wave-off like that? Just sad. The state of officiating in the Big Ten is sad.
