Michigan defense holds the key to this season.
They will be better simply because of Don Brown and his scheme. If they want to live up to the hype, as far as national championships go; they will need to become much more violent than last season.
If this defense can learn to use hard hitting to create an intimidation factor, they can win it all.
If the hitting is not improved, they will be better, but not championship caliber.
The '97 defense had a twelveth man. Intimidation. They hit at every opportunity.
'Punishing' should be the adjective of choice.

Thanksgiving trip with my family in 1997. We left Saturday morning from metro Detroit and listened to the Ohio State game on the radio as we drove to New Orleans to spend Thanksgiving with the wife's family. I bought Michigan caps for my three daughters (blue with block M) the wife and I. I bought two more white caps with the block M and placed them in the rear window of my new alpine white BMW 5 series taking it's maiden voyage road trip. My daughters were 12, 8 and 6. We continued on into SEC country sporting M gear all the way. We would always spend the night in Tennessee (halfway point) when we drove down, and we took photos of our three girls wearing their M caps in Tennessee.
Now, on the mantle is that photo of my girls in their Michigan caps from '97 at ages 12, 8 and 6 framed next to photos of each of them wearing their Michigan graduation caps from their respective M graduations.

42-28 Michigan wins going away.Team looks very similar to Northwestern game. 'Completely focused and and on task.

Disruption is key.
Receivers don't catch as many passes when they're getting hit really hard at every opportunity.
|50 weeks 4 days ago||Hard Hitting||
Hard hitting and a mean, nasty disposition is what I hope to see from the defense.
They acted like they wanted to be friends with Minnesota instead of beating them down and taking their lunch money.
'Mirror others' opinion that it would be great to see Speight go over the top and hit receivers in stride.

Hopefully the opportunities from this loss are maximized.
1. Punting is passive. The mindset should have been, 'get a first down to seal the game'. Own it. Win with the foot on the gas. When given a choice, choose to take the victory with aggression. Not extend the suspense. Lesson for the coaches. Storm the beach, Burn the ships.
2. Something is wrong with Jake Rudock's depth perception. He either needs an eye exam/glasses or a new prescription for his contacts (if he wears them). The inexplicable inability to hit a post route receiver in stride is too consistent to be purely mental (one would think). Michigan State's weakness was over the top. Everybody in the nation knew this. Our inability to attack effectively over the top will bring eight and ten man boxes going forward until Rudock proves to be a major college passer.

Haters gon' hate.
No more of my energy to this point.
My experience is fraught with people who refuse to believe what they've seen.
Rather, believing what they 'know'.
You know what you know, and I know what I know.
When the dialogue turns to this theme down the road, I'll be validated.

Correct, critical thinking is also a lost art.
In the afterglow of a Utopic victory, some choose friction rather than synchronicity or solidarity.
Enjoy this day.

Critical reading is a lost art.
'Scheme and level of play-wise'. Omitted was personnel-wise.
You have an NFL staff playing NFL schemes (playbook). If executed on a high level, what indeed would they resemble?
You come on.
|1 year 3 weeks ago||Defense||
Defense wins championships. If this team can sustain and build upon their performance yesterday, there is no team that can beat them. Bronco said Michigan was on another level than anyone they've played.
I suspect this is an NFL team by mid-season, scheme and level of play-wise.
Put on your seatbelts.

I just saw a national title level defensive performance.
All this means is that they have the potential. It will take continued and increased focus (Stribling).
Great game, Jake. Keep it up.
This offense still hasn't peaked. Ponder that.
Jim MF Harbaugh.

We need a 'gamer' at QB. An assassin.

I believe Rudock's issues are in his head, and I hope he sees this post.
In the first game, missing Jehu Chesson on that wide open post was inexcusable. The only way to screw that play up was to be too jacked and throw the ball too far. An average high school QB would have relaxed and tossed the ball because it was so wide open. That was a brain fart.
I propose Rudock is a variation of Devin Gardner. Both show(ed) a tendency to choke.
Or blow the two foot putt if you like that better than, 'choke'.
Stop choking Jake.
Yes, the spotlight is intense and the stage fright real.
Harbaugh and co. must find a way to get his mind in the place where he is at practice mentally during games.
I think the moment is overwhelming Jake and he needs to calm the frick down and he'll be fine.

Breakout performance. Timing is better; balance breaks BYU.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Rudock is Alex Smith||
Harbaugh is readying the replacement.
Drake Harris and Jehu Chesson possess elite speed. The potential of this offense is scary.
We gon' see.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Ruddock||
Ruddock was the difference in the game, in my view.
He was mentally erratic (choking) in the first half. I'd seen enough before halftime and was calling for him to sit at least one series to calm his nerves.
We will never know whether or not Shane could have come in and been more effective. On the one hand, I understand not creating a QB controversy; but on the other hand, Ruddock was the weak link last night.
I love Jim Harbaugh. But sticking with Ruddock in this game hurt the team.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Imagine||
Imagine an attacking offensive line that rotates eight linemen. That always fresh eight Man rotation is the initial point of attack followed by three two hundred thirty plus pound backs that are in the best condition of their lives. Imagine very few teams having the stamina or the personnel to withstand the assault come the fourth quarter. Imagine Butt, Harris, Chesson, Canteen and Perry being used effectively.

At least 10 wins.
Reasons I believe:
1. Early into this hire, a couple of these new assistants stated they were pleasantly surprised and that the cupboard is far from bare.
2. As has been duly pointed out, no one does more with less or maximizes personnel better than Jim Harbaugh. Exhibit A: Stanford. Exhibit B: SD State.
3. This team will become exactly what Stanford became. Bullies. They will road grade opponents. Utah is going to get crushed at home. Two five star backs, 5 and four star linemen. If anyone can maximize these guys, it is this staff.
4. Ohio State and Michigan State have already foolishly provided buletin board material. Against a master motivator, this will prove fatal.
5. Expect roster surprises at Utah. Do not be surprised to see the best athletes actually playing. This staff will maximize the talent available. They only play one team with more talent. OSU. Home field and this staff neutralize that advantage. Harbaugh as decision maker/strategist is the difference.
6. Remember I said these things, as it is not my style to remind you all after I am proven right.

I am appalled at all of the holier than thou types thinking it's safe to rise up out of their holes to take shots or pass judgement.
Clearly some of our fanbase are lurking for any opportunity to start a mutiny.
Stand by this staff and this team with solidarity; or at least exercise patience, wisdom and balance.
Wait for the facts. Throw no stones prematurely.

Clearly the guy has an eye for talent. He also won two state championships in five years, so he is very likely a pretty talented football mind.
It will be interesting to see what his role entails.
