The Vikings players in the Star Caps case used this strategy and played three full seasons as the case worked its way through federal court. There were jurisdictional questions that may now be resolved, but Brady can play as long as the case is being adjudicated.

At least then, there would be another Culvers in the world. Worst case is that he leaves to open an Arby's.

You should check out Andrew Highsmith's new book on Flint, called Demolition Means Progress (U of Chicago Press), which tells a history of this very idea of the connection between tearing down existing structures and understandings of urban progress in the era of deindustrialization

4-3-3 in name only. Probably going to play closer to a 4-1-4-1 with Brian sitting in front of the defensive line and Rapinoe and Heath responsible for tracking back on the wings.

The story goes, and this may be apocryphal, that Vivek had a lot of success defending with 4 and a dedicated cherry picker when coaching his daughter's team, so he either ordered a study or suggested that Malone try it as a strategy.

Should have added that the structural political constraints you mention are 100% right on

Rutgers AD isn't just using student fees. It's been drawing on the university's discretionary fund since the 2008 stadium expansion. This at a time when academic departments have seen significant funding cuts. The AD has pretty much poisoned the well (not that the Faculty Support Well is ever really that healthy). I'd imagine any facility expansion pretty much needs to be wholly donor funded at this point.

More funding? Isn't the Rutgers AD already running a massive deficit and using a bunch of money from the school's general fund?

He was banned either because of Title IX or gay marriage posting. He could never quite get the No Politics rule.

Who would even play there for the US? I love that set up, but aside from maybe Rapinoe, who I don't think I've ever seen play centrally, I haven't seen anyone with the ball control and passing skills to play that. I guess Morgan could do it, but there's no way to play with both Wambach and a false 9.

That was confusing. Did he mean False 9?

Given all the problems with the offense, the US defense has looked really strong since the early bobbles against Australia. In this game, Colombia hasn't really had a dangerous scoring chance.

Yep. Red card is a game long expulsion. The PK + red card for a foul on a breakaway is always a harsh punishment

Good call on the PK.
Wouldn't be surprised if Colombia started to melt down here.

That was orange. Can't believe it wasn't at least a yellow.

Can't believe that wasn't yellow on the tackle against Johnston. Late and on the ankle of a defender clearing the ball? That's terrible reffing.

The last defender was even and the ball wasn't headed toward the goal. I've seen those grounds justified as not DOGSO, but I think that was the right call.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Honestly, they don't look||
Honestly, they don't look that talented. Colombia's better at linking short passes together and close control. The US backline is well organized and they've got good speed up the flanks but they struggle to hold the ball under pressure and link plays. Basically, they're reflecting the issues with soccer development in the US more generally.

U.S. already resorting to blasting long balls out of the back. Totally bypassing the central midfield. They look dangerous on set pieces and not much else.

FWIW, there are not any real success stories of recovery from achilles tears by NBA players (maybe only Dominique). The link below has a list of players between 1992 and 2012 that have returned after an achilles tear (excluded are 8 guys who never made it back to the league). Now, a lot of these guys were on the down side of their careers anyway, but the evidence seems to show that would be foolish to count on Jennings next year (and it would be very Knicksian to trade for a player too broken to contribute).

|5 weeks 6 days ago||This is good advice, but also||
This is good advice, but also make sure that, when you do go on the academic job market, you get other people's input on you letter and materials. From running junior searches at an R1 (and serving as placement officer) I can tell you that about 1/3 of candidates eliminate themselves off the bat by not understanding the genre of the material they're writing for job applications. Also, go to as many job talks as you can, so you can see what works, and more importantly, what doesn't in your discipline

Trust me, a lot of them, not all certainly, are working late into the night after their kids go to bed, or are getting up at 5 to grab a few hours. And a lot of what they're doing doesn't look like "work." That person sitting at the coffee shop at 11am reading may actually be doing a book review, or doing the secondary research to have their original research speak to their audience

Problem is that, out of those guys, only Smith can create anything on his own, and Smith creating is almost as likely to hurt as help his team. If the Cavs win 2, it will be a remarkable achievement.
