- It's a picture of boobies!
- Ever open a fifteen-post thread at work and get two different 800x600 pictures of impossibly fake boobs alternating for pages and pages? And then have your boss walk up behind you? Thanks, internet hero, for turning my idle surfing of a sports site into a firing offense! No one needs to see the same set of fake gazongas eighty times accompanied by your three words of deep insight into the team of your choice.

I think he's still enrolled at Stanford, on track to graduate this June (Stanford's on quarter system) and then will enroll as a graduate student at UM in the fall. So no weight because he's not officially a Michigan student yet.

I'm all for changing the schedule for the semifinals so theyre always on New Years Day. A lot of folks with a normal work schedule on the west coast is going to miss the early game (NYE is not an official holiday) and the New Years Eve evening semi is idiotic.

Going to be a lot more than that when you figure in the settlement with the resort for lost earnings on two floors of rooms for 2-3 weeks plus increased insurance rates for the chapter. I'd guess at least twice the costs of the damages themselves, more if the rooms can't be repaired by Presidents Day weekend.

The logical fallacies in this post are almost too numerous to detail... but what the heck.
1. Not a free speech issue b/c Brian/mgoblog isn't a government entity.
2. Neither would it be censorship because it would not be a policy backed by state enforcement power.
3. Mgoblog is in no way affiliated with the university, so it would not be the university promoting censorship.
4. If mgoblog were to decide to eliminate such avatars, the guidelines would be decided by the owner of the site, and those he has delegated to act in his stead.
5. If only Brian had provided some type of guideline...

Rose Bowl will always kick off at 5 on NYD. The playoff semis will actually be on NYE next year (which is dumb).

Folks should probably figure out how to come to terms with Rosenberg being the main voice at SI writing about Michigan. He's always had a line to Lloyd and it's clear from this article and the past that he has some kind of connection to Harbaugh and his dad. (I'm assuming he has relationships with a lot of the Bo-era coaches from writing his book). While not much is new in the article, it's clear that some of it results from a one on one talk.
The upshot being that he's most likely going to be SI's main guy for access inside Harbaugh-era Schembechler Hall. It sucks that his shitty reporting for the Freep landed him such a national platform, but it is what it is.

For what it's worth, I don't think there's any love lost between Rosenberg and Brandon. Brandon attacked Rosenberg in all but name in his presser about the NCAA thing and Rosenberg, in this very article, says that Harbaugh "coveted" the job in 2011 but Brandon botched the search.

The issue is really in these JCs that exist, in part, as places for schools (Ole Miss, KSU, Miss St) to stash non-qualifiers, because those institutions have really shaky accreditations and very marginally qualified faculty. Places like WCC don't fall in this category. UM will admit from JCs, but not the ones that exist as football way stations.

|10 weeks 2 days ago||My bad||
Ah, I misunderstood "Oklahoma has been a great program for years" as referring to the years prior to Stoops, ie, downplaying the Stoops turnaround, not as referrring to the longevity of Stoops' success.
And no, now that I'm no longer misunderstanding, we're not disagreeing at all.
And yes, Mora > Stoops > Harbaugh is the proper order, with all being total coups should they come to M.
|10 weeks 3 days ago||Stoops.||
Oklahoma was equally bad as, if not worse than, UCLA circa 2011 when Stoops took over. The 1990s were kind of a lost decade for OU, with Gary Gibbs, Schnellenberger, and John Blake (who would go on to be one of the real bad guys in the series of UNC scandals) combining to be just over .500 during the decade. Just before Stoops took over, Blake had gone 12-22 in the previous three years.
Stoops has done it over the long haul but he also turned things around almost immediately. Stoops took Blake's players and went 7-5 then 13-0 in his first two years.
So Stoops's reclamation project at Oklahoma even more impressive than what Mora's done at UCLA (which is impressive in its own right).

I'd argue that most college tours for non-athletes don't spend much more time on academics. The norm seems to be "There's the library, now let's look at this awesome climbing wall in the gym! Now let's check out the Sundae Bar." Always confuses me that potential students aren't encouraged to sit in on classes (at least that's the case at the institution where I teach, which is a large, private university).

They hate it crossing semesters because a football game is hugely disruptive to a campus in a way that a basketball of a hockey game is not. Also, any plan that involves games during finals weeks (roughly the second two weeks of December) is a non starter.

Doyle and Spike obviously had really nice games.
The big thing from that game, however, might be Chatman getting more comfortable on offense and beginning to learn what he needs to do to rebound at the college level. The game on offense looks like it's starting to slow down for him. Defense is still fairly rough, but, given his talent level, if he's starting to figure out how to fit in to the offense, that's huge for this team. And rebounding seems like it will be one of the big challenges for this team throughout the year, so if he can contribute the numbers from last night, it will be a tremendous help.
Caveats related to Syracuse playing zone and Chatman's role in zone busting being necessarily different than in the normal offense certainly apply.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||I don't remember feeling that||
I don't remember feeling that Doyle got screwed out of a clear charging call at any time. I don't remember the first two calls but Doyle clearly flopped on the last one, where SU got the layup with under a minute left. (The really terrible miss by the refs was the push on Irvin's dunk, which should have been a flagrant because it was such a dangerous foul by a player making no play on the ball. That was the kind of foul that starts a fight 10 times out of 10 in a pickup game.)
On Dakich, when he's not wearing his sports talk radio host hat and is reading the game as a coach, he's quite good. His point about Spike moving without the ball to take advantage of the space in the SU zone before the behind the back pass/Doyle dunk was really insightful. I get about 3-4 of those things I don't otherwise notice in the game from him. In his first year as a broadcasters, he provided even more of that stuff, but he's shifted significantly from focusing on analysis to emphasizing personality, which is annoying but almost certainly the kind of thing that advances one up the broadcasting hierarchy at ESPN.

Harbaugh and the NYC media would be a total disaster. He's self-aware enough to know that. If he stays in the NFL, I expect it will be in a job no one is talking about because it will come open after a late season collapse.
|12 weeks 4 days ago||In same boat. Hoke should be||
In same boat. Hoke should be fired, but the "improvement" in RR's last year was fools gold. A bunch of marginal close wins (Illinois, Indiana, UMass) and every loss was a blowout where we never had the ball in the 4th quarter with a chance to tie.
That year was a lot more exciting because of Denard, but this team never quit on their coaches like RR's last team did.

People on mgoblog have always been idiotically pessimistic about basketball. If you went through the game and postgame threads the last two years, you'd find innumerable posts about how Jordan Morgan couldn't play, how THJr didn't try, how Stauskas was one-dimensional, how Belein needed to throw the ball into the post, and how the team in general lacked heart..
People just kind of overreact and act irrationally when they're fans.
