You would need some type of investment that tracks with oil prices. Currently we are at $40. A two year bounce back to $60 to $80 seems possible. Prices falling into the $20 range seems unlikely. Of course if we did have two years of $20 oil the housing market in Houston would likely fall significantly. Assuming your job in Houston would not disappear with the low oil prices you would be somewhat hedged.

Our annual camping trip with 10 to 15 U of M grads. A large quantity of beer is being consumed and several pounds of bacon are on the grill. The smoker will be fired up In the morning. Always a fun weekend.

In theory he would have a $400 credit on the ticket (minus the $200 change fee). If he was on southwest he would have the full value on it.

We have Jim Harbaugh....Harbaugh. Did people actually click on the link?
|4 weeks 3 days ago||I don’t think what’s on the phone matters||
The league, through their investigator, asked to see the phone. He responded by destroying the phone. That seems pretty open and shut in terms of obstructing the investigation.
If he wanted to argue the phone was not relevant, they had no right to see it, etc. he could have done so through is lawyers/agent. The union also could have steeped in to protect his interest. While that was adjudicated he could have held on to the phone and turned nothing over. He decided not to do that.
I am fairly sure if a court issues a search warrant for data you can’t destroy the data and then go back and argue you are innocent of obstruction because the warrant was invalid. The proper approach is to challenge the validity of the warrant not destroy the evidence. I think the same principle applies here.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||The phone thing||
People are really grasping at straws to defend the destruction of the phone. The search could have been narrowed to focus on information relevant to the investigation. I think they even offered that option. It seems like Brady either got poor legal advice or failed to follow it.
If the reason for the 4 game suspension centers on the obstruction of the investigation (making the facts around deflate gate irrelevant) the fact that he had the phone destroyed on the day he met with the investigators seems nearly impossible to overcome. Any idea how he can argue his way out of this one? I am going to assume the, “I had personal stuff on the phone I did not want anyway to see, or I always destroy my phone when I get a new one and happened to get one on the exact date I was scheduled for the interview”, is not going to fly in court.
Seems like his best move is to take the four games and just move on.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Woodson||
With Woodson on almost every list this got me thinking. Is the following statement true?
"Charles Woodson is the greatest Michigan football player of all time"
I think my answer would be yes. I know there is a Brady argument but that would really be that Brady is the greatest Patriot or NFL QB.
What do you all think?
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Agree||
He is the only player on the list where there is really not a choice. The guy was by far the biggest reason we won the title in 2007. Watching him shut down half the field during every game is something I will never forget.

The model future radar seems to indicate a new line forming this evening and moving through southeast MI between 10 and midnight. The model is showing a couple good sized t storm complexes with big bow echoes. That would imply a significant wind threat (though perhaps not as much of a tornado threat)so I would keep an eye out this evening.
|11 weeks 3 days ago||Really?||
The downstairs bar area and the outside features look nice to me. Some of the main floor furniture choices are not my taste but “Relentlessly tacky”? It looks pretty standard for your typical recently built Midwest mansion to me. It’s not like it’s at the Trump level on the tacky scale. I guess I just don’t have your superior sense of style.
Are you referring to the design/decorating choices as being relentlessly tacky or the concept of two people having a 10,000 square foot house? Two different issues.
If you are talking about the decorating choices it’s always classy to go after your former football coaches wife’s style choices.
|11 weeks 3 days ago||What the heck?||
Nice attack with no evidence or explanation. What bills is he not paying? I am sure he is managing the day to day accounting of the school. Of course a simple google search would tell you that American Promise Schools runs day to day operations. So if the school owes you money you may want to start with them.
The only reference to bills not being paid found on the web is something on the red cedar message board from 2012. Do you spend a lot of time over there?
You go on to indicate that Jalen is making a ton of money off children. Is he getting paid for his efforts related to the school? I don’t get the impression that this is a money making effort for him but if it is you could at least provide some evidence.
Look, if Jalen Rose Academy owes you or some acquaintance money you should deal with the organization that owes the money, American Promise Schools. Jumping on the web to bash Jalen, with no evidence, who likely has nothing to do with the day to day operations, is weak.
I heard a rumor that Jalen Rose Academy is not paying the bills of some contractor owned by an mgoborad commentator named HarbaughorBust. Apparently they do lousy work and then sue their customers to collect on work not completed. I’ll praise HarbaughorBust for all his great comments on Michigan but it’s just not OK for corrupt contractors to steal from schools. See how easy it is to put a random attack on the internet?

Though the South Carolina flag is cool. Colorado also has the best license plate in my opinion. The current main Michigan plate is a disaster
|14 weeks 1 day ago||0.7%||
This growth rate inlcudes immigration. The most recent data on fertility rate in the US was 1.88 in 2012. This is significantly below the 2.1 needed for replacement. Immigration is the only reason we have population growth currently in the US. Of course regarding football I suspect immigrants are less likely to buy season tickets relative to the native population.
I do agree with the individual who felt we may see some migration back north in coming years due to water/climate issues. I would also point out that the extended period of a weak Michigan and Midwest economy may eventually makes Michigan a lower cost option for businesses looking to relocate. I don’t think this overrides the overall population trends combined with the declining level of interest in attending games from the younger generation.
I am not declaring doom and gloom here just arguing that we are likely at the peak of demand for Michigan football tickets. This demand will bounce around based on annual performance but is unlikely to see a big uptick necessitating increasing capacity in a substantial way. Put anouther way I don't think investing university funds in further expansion of the stadium is a good move based on the long-term outlook.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||Don’t see a need to grow||
I don’t think the overall capacity of the stadium expands much if any in the future. There are several reasons for this. Population growth in Michigan was just 0.27% over the last four years. The US population growth rate is at its lowest level in forever at 0.7% annually. I don’t see this trend reversing and believe that Michigan will likely peak in population in the next 10 to 20 years while the US will peak in the next 20 to 40 years. The trend of ever growing population in this country (and eventually the world) is soon over.
Beyond the basic lack of new people we also will begin to see the baby boomers begin age to the point that they no longer are able to attend games. The next big generation, the millennials, appears to have a lower interest level in attending football games, or at least having season tickets.
It does not appear that the demand is going to be there to support a larger stadium. The real problem is likely to be how we fill the capacity we have in coming years.

|15 weeks 3 days ago||Overly harsh?||
An above average Michigan quarterback, greatest former Michigan QB to play in the NFL who is also kind of a douche? You have a low standard for overly harsh. Also not having blind loyalty to Tom Brady and not being a fan of his team does not mean I don't wish former Michigan athletes well.
|15 weeks 3 days ago||Enough about Brady||
The number of Brady worshipers on here is annoying. I realize many of you are younger than me and have not had the opportunity to see much success lately. That being said, turning Brady into model of Michigan success is kind of pathetic. He was a slightly above average Michigan quarterback who was drafted in the sixth round. Brady led us to a 3 loss season and a 2 loss season. Between 1980 and 2007 Michigan had 18 season equal or better then what Brady generated. He is not the greatest Michigan quarterback ever. He is the best former Michigan quarterback to play in the NFL. Good for him.
Being a Michigan fan does not require being a Tom Brady fan. Many Michigan fans don’t like the Patriots, Belichick or really care for Tom Brady. Personally I feel the guy comes across as a douche most of the time. Great pro quarterback but holding him up as a paragon of virtue is a bit much.
Also please note that attacks on Tom Brady have nothing to do with Michigan. They guy has been gone for 15 years. If you are a Patriots fan I can understand the rage. Take your comments to a Patriot blog and rage on. From the Michigan fan perspective, who gives a crap?
Hopefully the upcoming Harbaugh seasons will allow many of you to get over your Brady infatuation.

But as a life long Browns fan I am at a point where I hate everything about this team and organization. Is there any redeeming value in being a Browns Fan?
|21 weeks 9 hours ago||The problem with the number||
Starts with the one in 3.5 million number. Individuals who never fly are being counted there. General aviation has a very high accident rate relative to other forms of travel. The odds of someone being in two small plane crashes are still really low but not that low. Google tells us the following:
Car travel has 0.588 fatalities per million hours driven
Airline travel has 1.6 fatalities per million hours flown
General aviation has 11.2 fatalities per million hours flown
|22 weeks 3 days ago||This is confusing||
You can be fired by the British for being too British? Screaming at someone for 30 minutes because they can't magically reopen the kitchen for you seems like normal behavior for an old British dude. What's next. Are they going to fire someone for yelling at some waiter in Paris for not speaking English?
|22 weeks 6 days ago||This is the worst advice ever||
Don't hire a lawyer and throw yourself on the mercy of the court? I'm sure the local prosecutor (an elected official in a high profile case) will respect that and go easy on you. Of course that felony conviction on your record won't cause you any problems with future employers once you explain how you did the right thing and did not hide behind a lawyer.
|22 weeks 6 days ago||No reason to fight||
Unless the prosecutor wants to get carried away and push for a felony conviction. Me guess is they will take any deal that avoids a felony on their record. Cooperate, take a big fine, lots of community service maybe a few weekends in jail. That would be a fair punishment and my guess is such a deal will be worked out relatively quickly.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||The loss of youth football||
Losing Pop Warner and other youth football should not do that much damage to the game. The only concern is the trend where parents have their kids specialize in a sport year round at an early age. High School is the big risk as that is essentially a required feeder into college programs.
Any decline in football will be a long term event. You could see some states (California most likely) see a large number of school districts give up on the game due to legal/insurance cost and health concerns. It would not surprise me to see some southern states (TX, AL, etc.) jump to the defense of the sport and attempt to legislatively limit the liability of youth and high school football organizations.
In the end the sport becomes increasingly regional and popularity falls. I am not arguing that football goes away in the next ten years. It is very possible that the game has reached its peak in popularity and will be begin a slow decline that plays out over the next 25 to 50 years.
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Same thing for me||
One of the first companies I worked for had an investment banking operation. The guys on that side of the business were very vocal about every e-mail being discoverable and making sure you would be comfortable testifying about it in court. They also pointed out that looking at your e-mail from the perspective of an attorney who was not on your side provides a good guide to what you should and should not say as well as how you say it.
At this point the only e-mail I send around potentially controversial and highly sensitive topics is “call me”
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Electronic Communication||
This may sound a little paranoid but why can’t people figure out that nothing is really private once it’s in electronic form. Think your boss is incompetent, a customer is an a hole, a co-worker is hot? Need to organize a cover-up of some illegal recruiting activities or bury an untimely arrest of a key player? Don’t put this in a freakin e-mail. That racist or sexist joke that was just so funny you had to share – e-mail, twitter, Facebook is probably not a good idea. That hilarious picture of you taking a massive bong hit. You might not want that to live forever on the internet.
Before you place anything on-line or in an e-mail just assume that anyone you don’t want to see it will. If you have questionable things you want to share and/or discuss with others try talking face to face or using a phone. This is not to excuse the reprehensible behavior of taking photos of passed out girls but merely to point out how stupid people seem to be about modern communication technology.
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Why is this so hard to figure out?||
1) Don’t do illegal and/or morally reprehensible things
2) If you do engage in these activities it might not be a good idea to document them and post evidence on-line.
Society does appreciate that your level of stupidity makes it much easier to identify and punish you though.
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Who are these Hoke & RR Individuals?||
I think we just beat Tim Tebow in a bowl game and now Jim Harbaugh is our coach. Everything seems great to me. I do need to figure out who these children are and why they are in my house. Other than that this approach seems to be working fine for me. You should try it out.
|23 weeks 4 days ago||That's not what I was saying||
I am not into simply not questioning rules because they are the rules. I think we have too many laws and too many people under the thumb of the criminal justice system. I believe in many cases our system is creating more harm then it is preventing.
