I don't want to see Oregon, USC, LSU, Bama, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State.
Now, in 2-3 years after we have coached up Poggi, Pee Wee, Bolden, Ross, Wormley, Goodin, Ross Douglass, Dymonte Thomas and Taco Charlton, here are the teams I would like to see:
Oregon, USC, LSU, Bama, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State and Bama again in a best 2 out of 3. |

He did say Oregon: Lets get that on the record. I do think Chip Kelly is different only because he was able to recruit better. So everything you put in parenthesis is true, but I think RR would evolve to that if he could. But at WVU and Michigan he never had the opportunity. |

Colt Lyerla has a 62" vert....good lord. See, that makes sense though. With the crazy amount of money Nike puts into their facilities I would expect world beaters to be on this team at multiple positions. It confused me when they were only geting 2-3 amazing athletes on this team. |

Here is what I don't get. The guy that runs this site watches more game tape than any amateur fan in the country. This same guy says the best offense he can concieve of is RR's. So...why are we hating on RR? Its' not his philosophy. Is it because how he was treated? Because he couldn't grab his D-coordinator? I just don't get it. RR is doing his thing, Hoke is doing his thing. Why hate on either guy? |

Michigan will bounce back. BIG schedule is just now underway. Just look at what Hoke/Mattison/Montgomery did with Q. Washington. I understand the frustration with the TO's but guys: Washington was an o-lineman. He just converted not too long ago. We held a decent offense to 13 pts after comitting 6 turnovers with 18 year old's at 2 LB positions and safety. |

I think it changes if we beat: ND & state & Ohio & b10 champ game & BCS game.... & beat USC or SEC team 2 out of the next 3 times. Meaning this will be a 3-4 yr process of regaining respect for us and the big ten. That being said: I KNOW we got this. |

without question. Our front 7 on D in 2006 was one of the best ever. It was on a Miami 2001 level. If we had Rojo and King commit (they were very close) and paired them up with Leon Hall, wow. That D would've been considered one of the best ever. Ohio State couldn't have spread us out and that defense would've killed Leak and Tebow. |

Meyer, I'm sure, could find a way to make Braxton Miller and Dunn work. Power inside runs, veer, whatever. You don't win 2 MNC's and then say "Dunn and Miller...geez, how does that even work?" And after he gets his Percy Harvin then he'll have Miller, Dunn, and Percy Harvin Clone. (Fuck!!) I'm sure he will find a way. I just hope Dunn likes what he hears on our side more than what he hears from Urban and Co. Either that or he saw Pipkins on Saturday and decided he wants to live to see 21. |

Not just UVA and Tech but Penn State too. Maryland could easily be a BCS power if they could just build a damn fence around their state and grab a couple of prospects from DC. That being said, I've attended the University and I have no idea what they sell to recruits on campus lifestyle other than the proximity to DC and Baltimore (ugh). They have the Under Armour money coming in, so maybe that'll help with facilities. |

When a scheme question was posed to Mattison he answered it. He didn't view Heiko's question as "singling somebody out." Borges does, and now we know that. How could we know that without asking the question. I don't remember people getting upset about Heiko's question about option responsibility with Mattison. It's all about how the coach views the question. Great question, you have balls for asking it....and I don't think you are trying to single somebody out but rather UNDERSTAND what is going on out there which in turn leads to better reporting on the game. Keep up the outstanding work. |

Also, I remember Brian trying to ask technical questions to Rich Rod's staff and they just said "I'm not going to answer that." Which is understandable.
What's mind-blowing is how Hoke's guys are all about answering these questions. Does Hoke's regime LIKE how MGoBlog covers the team (covering what happens on the field) or is it more "well shit, they aren't going away, we better treat them with some respect" |

| 1 year 43 weeks ago | Toughness |
I really think we are going to be tough this year. Especially up front. The perimeter does not exist. Unless we motion a hybrid OL/WR out there. It's not about making plays but rather how tough you are. Can you catch? I don't care. Can you be tough? THAT is the question. How do you apply press coverage to an offensive tackle...you can't. TOUGHNESS. CAPS LOCK is tough. Speed = weak. Steak is tough. Our men eat toughness...especially up front. |
| 2 years 3 weeks ago | ""We didn't have that the |
""We didn't have that the last few years because we didn't have the right guy as coach but we've learned from our own mistakes."
I know I'm so pissed that Jeremy Gallon and Denard Robinson play for our team. And that offensive line? I mean Taylor Lewan who schools like USC missed on until late in the recruiting year....and Omameh and Christian Pace? WTF RICH ROD? And how do you explain the destruction of Brandon Graham under RR and Barwis? Andy Reid said he was impressed with BG's core and technique, sure...but Reid is nothing more than an NFL coach. Rich Rod was a plant from that school in Ohio, book it. |
| 2 years 3 weeks ago | What I took away from the article: |
""You know you might be hurt, you might be bruised up, you might have some injuries, but you want to practice, you want to play," Long said. "That's what makes you a great football player. That's what coach (Carr) instilled in us, and that's what coach Hoke is going to instill in them."
Listen, I'm still mad RR is gone. I loved having the Florida athlete on our team instead of watching him in the bowl game...playing against us. But I feel one thing Hoke can do (other than get Mattison on board whose recruiting MI and OH like a monster) is instill a similar atmosphere that Carr had. |

Always good to hear comments like this from our recruits (Dileo too) but I'm sure the Grimes package, Sean Parker, Hankins and Big Tex would all play just as hard. No matter how this class ends up I have faith that RR's staff will make it work on both sides of the ball. He did it before and he'll do it again. |

Even Sheridan looked improved in the small amount of snaps he got. Not skill wise, but more tempo wise. The offense was going at a smooth pace...and he was even making some adjustments at the line. I thought that was very promising to see in terms of Forcier's potential at the helm next year. |

With Jeremy Gallon in the fold, we could run the A-11 and put up 30. Tate - Brady With all those comparisons being 100% true (and they are, look it up) we are already on pace to run a pro-style offense that mimics the New England Football Patriots. |

Not only by his play but Rich Rod said last year that he wants "11 guys like Odoms" out on the field. V. Smith definetely fits that mold. That's just off the top of my head...the wins will follow. To answer your hypothetical question...Miles brings in great assistant coaches, so that would be nice. But he will never be here as a coach. Justin Turner and Jeremy Gallon will make sure of it. |

this holds true in the nfl too. As a Redskins fan, our fanbase got way over zealous after we beat Dallas and Philly last year...not realizing that we still struggled to beat bad teams like the Rams.
ACC is by far the most underrated conference IME. I still think the Big East is garbage. Their top team, Cinci, still doesn't even have the facilities to hold onto their coaches! That's pretty disgusting. I got SEC at 1 with Big East, Big 12 (way overrated) and the Big 10 at the bottom. Pac 10 and ACC is hard to figure out. ACC: Miami is loaded with guys right now, once they put it together I think ACC starts challenging the SEC for the top spot. FSU and VT are a great 2nd tier with Wake and UNC the strongest 3rd tier in the country along with SEC's. MD, BC and Clemson round out a very complete conference. Pac 10: They need to step their TV game up. They deserve every bit of East Coast bias they get. I'm not even going to bother ranking them. |

I'm wondering if this is for recruiting purposes. Maybe he's made some promises/comments that we will be a balanced offense and not just a spread n shred running team. I too agree we are incredibly successful running it, but there has to be a reason we throw as much as we do. Since I don't see reasons on the field for doing this, I'm thinking the reasons are for the recruiting trail |

RB and Slot on either side of the field both ran wheel routes. The 2 outside WRs looked like they were supposed to stem upfield and then cut towards the middle on a post/dig. Matthews did, but Savoy didn't. Even if it was an option route, Savoy had the middle of the field wide open to run to. I could be wrong but that INT looked to be mainly on Savoy not Nick. |
| 3 years 41 weeks ago | I want Tate as the #1 as well, but... |
Nick did nothing wrong in the snaps he took. He checked us into a great run play with Shaw, then he himself ran with some shifty moves for a TD. Plus as I explained below, I don't think that INT was 100% on him. |

#72 and #71 were missing blocks at the 2nd level in the run game. Molk and Schilling were hitting all theirs though, especially Steve...he mauled a few guys. The number 1 thing I would look for is can our tackles play in space. |
| 3 years 41 weeks ago | Can't stand beer. |
Can't stand beer. Sorry. Vokda: Ciroc > Kettle > Grey Goose. Ciroc is the only vodka I can drink straight on the rocks. Whiskey (Mixed malts): 20+ years > 15 years >> Gentlemans Jack > Crown > Chivas > Black Label > Jack Daniels: Single Barrel. Tequila: Petron >> 1800. All other Tequillas kinda suck IMHE. My distaste for beer makes tailgaiting interesting as I have to lug around a 20 lb cooler at all times. Also, I have yet to find a liquor stand at Redskins stadium. Found one at the Wizards/Caps arena though. |

...he's kinda awesome. His passion/intensity comes across as real, not manufactured...and he's a X's and O's analyst first unlike most others that work for the WWL. Craig James, whose calling our game, is a little arrogant and SEC loving for my taste. (but he just defended RR this morning, so I'll tolerate him for today) |

what the hell are you even saying? There needs to be a 1 year ban on using the terms "tradition" and "values" on this board because people just throw those words around without even thinking. And you misspelled Rodriguez, made assumptions you can't back up, and can't even define "Michigan Man". Maybe it's because I grew up in Maryland and don't understand, or maybe it's this Gentleman's Jack in me talking, but fuck this "Michigan Man" talk. NO ONE CARES. It's all about football, not meaningless catchphrases. Also, fuck tradition...I like winning more. RR was hired in part to help us win the big OOC games, and he's going to do just that. Our players work too damn hard to not succeed. I hope you catch E. Coli |

I'll cosign on this. I went to College Park...football saturdays were not something to look forward too. That being said MD stays getting top athletes: Last 2 or 3 years ALONE: Pass Catchers: Vernon Davis, Heyward-Bey CBs: Dominique Foxworth, Travis Hawkins (RR recruited him last year), Josh Wilson (2nd rounder Seahawks), Kevin Barnes (3rd round, Redskins) OL: Gaither and Heyer, STARTING LT and RT in the NFL respectively. Fridge, former OL himself, recruits some big dudes and coaches them up. LBs: D'Qwell Jackson and EJ Henderson: 100+ tackling machines. The 2 things standing in MD's way from being BCS contenders every year, is QB play (how in the world do they not recruit better QBs is beyond me) and Penn State. PSU stays recruiting the hell out of MD. |

I can't believe he'll improve based on off-season chatter...he'll f' up, BUT with safety help behind him this year...hopefully. That might help him recover mentally quicker after a mistake, maybe that's been part of the problem in the past. |

I really hope that's the case...BG at the WDE lined up wide outside the LT...oh man. I don't like the idea of him having to worry about double teams on the strong side. I understand the concern with BG playing in space, but I'm sure we could scheme around that. You can cover the 'flat' zone with say...Mouton at WLB while BG embarrasses whatever fat slab of meat is in front of him... And what's the deal with RVB...Is he going to predominately be a 3-tech? I'd assume we'd switch him to SDE from time to time...he'd be a PERFECT fit for handling the C gap while handling run-stoppage duties. Martin could play the 3-tech with the French Canadian/Campbell handing A... Or we run the 1-4-6 with Zoltan at NT. |

I think he would have. Hart said himself that he has a very fast 0-20 yd speed, but after that is where he starts to slow down. I think that's a fair assessment...he always burst through the line and hit the 2nd level as quick as any other back (Minor, et al)...running away from the secondary was another story... Throw in his ability to pick the right hole in a zone blocking scheme and I think he would've worked his way up the depth chart in a RR system (recruited by RR staff though? Probably not) |

When you ask about this are we assuming the offensive line trims down to 280-290 lbs...or are we saying with the teams exactly like they were? I think our O-line would've struggled a bit, and Lloyd was convinced you absolutely had to have the threat of running the football on just about every play (big reason he didn't go shotgun often). I think he may have believed this because he knew the limitations of his O-lines. The 2008 O-line might have held up though. That being said, we did have the WR's... |
| 3 years 47 weeks ago | I'll take a flier on USC |
I'll take a flier on USC until we prove that we can win our conference first. I always thought USC struggled with the spread option (Dixon, Young and Pryor last year in spot duty)...so it would be an intriguing match up...perhaps later on though. |
| 3 years 47 weeks ago | Maybe Texas a la 2003? |
VY and some white dude QB with mobility that was a better passer shared the field. 2 minute drills had Vince on the bench, but otherwise Vince was in there...good lord did VY stink it up. He was making some WTF over the middle throws...but the tackles he could break were uncanny. I see Tate as the man for the next 4 years with Denard/Gardner seeing spot duty simply because with guys like Stokes, Stonum and now Miller...we have to be a pass first offense--like the one Shaun King was in--in the years to come. What a waste of talent that would be if we weren't. |
| 3 years 47 weeks ago | UCF or FIU |
Didn't we lose 1 or 2 recruits to the 'secondary' Florida schools? Lets get one of them up here...plus Martin won't have to cry about a home-and-home. how often could he trust his safety help? Leon Hall is great...the secondary as a whole (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th CBs and all the safeties)...against the best of the best...didn't hold up. What makes it so tough is...imagine if we closed in on Rolle or King or any other of the half dozen DB's we were so close to getting the previous 2-3 years. But I know, let it go.... |
| 3 years 48 weeks ago | Amen |
good thing for Wolverine Historian. They just showed the 2003 texas-ttech game...TTech looked a lot like what I envision Michigan to be this year. A whole bunch of fast little buggers in the slot (Welker, Henderson, etc.) and also playing RB. Those little guys were breaking ankles out there...and not just any ankles...I'm talkin about guys like Derrick Johnson. Pretty exciting possibilities to consider... |
| 3 years 48 weeks ago | The 2006 secondary was not very good |
The 2006 secondary was complete garbage...if we're talking in terms of 'best of the best ever'. USC's WR's torched the hell out of us in the 2nd half. tOSU spread that secondary out and all we could do was give 4-5 yard cushions and Smith just threw quick darts all day long. Shawn Crable was in that backfield like crazy...I would go as far as to say we had a better pass rush that game than Florida did in the NC game. Our secondary couldn't press to save their lives though. |

POINT IS...I wouldn't be worried about Michigan football going up in flames over the next few years. He's giving us a machine that will be legit contenders not just in the Big Ten but also against the USC's and elite spread teams around the country. |
| 3 years 48 weeks ago | Nothing wrong with that. |
Nothing wrong with that. Miami stayed fucking teams up...their "thugs" were just hungry crazy bastards that wanted to kill their opponents...I'll take half a dozen please. I currently live in Winchester, VA (20 min outside West Virginia)...I work with a pharmacist who knows Pat White's mom and few of the WVU players...apparently RRod is a thug himself in the sense that he sleeps around, curses the hell out of his players etc. etc.....But who cares? RR knows what he's doing and is aware of the type of personalities he's bringing in. Brian already touched up on this...the mentality of players his staff gets includes a handful of crazy fuckers that will run all day in probably the hardest S&C program in the country....and come gameday they should be flying all over the place, hitting harder than normal, and just overall be playing out of their minds. |
| 3 years 48 weeks ago | I've been watching |
I've been watching WHistorian's youtube videos too and I was thinking the same thing with the bubble screens under Carr. There was one year that I think we had Bass, Breaston and Manningham taking reverses and screens. That might have been our fastest WR corps ever. Bowl games are the best to watch, especially Carr's last game...if Hart doesn't fumble I don't think that game comes down to the last play. Adrian Arrington played the game of his LIFE...and watching our o-line punish those fools makes me think how our 2006 team would've done vs the Chris Leak/Tebow team. |

RR's running game worked just fine with Minor. It's hard to judge the passing game given the lack of experience at QB. I figure this year we should have a pretty good running game...until Minor gets hurt. The speed he's brought to our team is something I wouldn't trade for anything. OSU and PSU still can't run with certain teams. I thought our D-line was vastly improved with it's lateral speed. Can't wait to see how they look this year. |

| 4 years 19 weeks ago | TomVH |
already explained this. Due to certain circumstances brought on by this transition year, we had a bunch of early commits that were "rushed" if you will. Hence all the soft commits this year. can you compare our program to USC's? I've always thought they were a tier above us. It says in that article that it took some convincing by Carroll. I'd imagine we'd have to throw in a bit more money than USC in order to land a NFL coordinator...unless they had ties to the program. In that radio interview RR did that got posted up on this site, he said he wasn't going to pay anywhere near that kind of money. If Pete set the bar at 1 million, then I'd kiss any hopes of an NFL coordinator goodbye, save for alumni. |

they are in this offense. Some rookie QBs rely on the middle of the field and TE's...we do bubble screens to the tiny slot guy. Which is fine and all...but it'll be a couple years before we get a Shaun King or Colt McCoy. By then there will be Stonum, Jackson and Miller on the outside...that's plenty! Plus Clemons and J.R. are only going to get better. |

I figured the reason Schafer got let go was cause he didn't recruit worth squat. I mean NO recruiting defects due to losing Schafer?? Weird. NFL experience is nice and all, but I would love to get a Miami/U of Florida guy that has good ties to the H.S's down there. |
| 4 years 22 weeks ago | I still don't understand why |
I still don't understand why outside WR is listed as a position of need. Our WR's are primarily blockers right now while the QB position matures. As far as route running skill guys go...Stonum is fine for now until the 2010 kids come in. As far as LBs go...it looks like we're sticking S/LB hybrids in there. A stud MLB would be nice, but the only positions I'm stressing over is 1 more corner and a capable dual threat QB. Period. |
| 4 years 23 weeks ago | I thought Pryor had success |
I thought Pryor had success running the ball with his few snaps that he had against USC. I also think Dennis Dixon owned their front 7 last year. PSU...their QB wasn't threatening to run...he was dropping back and just launching it all over the field. Probably b/c they were playing from way far behind. Oklahoma...I haven't seen them run a mobile QB from the spread. |
| 4 years 23 weeks ago | I really think this is an |
I really think this is an issue of speed, not X's and O's philosophy. Stopping QBs like Pryor should continue...unless they all learn to play fake like Juice of 2008, then...um, shit. Miami (FL) and Auburn are the only 2 schools I can think of that consistently stop a mobile QB out of the spread....and their S&C programs are predicated on speed, specifically with the d-line. In the case of Auburn, they went as far as to put in 199 lb guys at LB. Our incoming S/LB recruits appear to fit this philosophy. Other top notch programs like LSU and USC still struggle with mobile QB's out of the spread...and, from what I've seen, I don't think they don't emphasize speed up front the way Michigan, Miami and Auburn do. |
| 4 years 23 weeks ago | With the new speed on |

No 2-way QB scares me anymore, including Pryor. Look at what Miami (yes, that Miami) and Auburn have done to scrambling QBs for the past decade. Now we're getting that speed on the field. You saw our D-line against Pryor, it's different now. |
| 4 years 27 weeks ago | point well taken...but them |
point well taken...but them down South boys and everyone else that Rich Rod is bringing in don't give a fuck. They ready to unleash that Pahokee aggression on unsuspecting fools. McGuff and Boren are just 2 examples. What about TTaylor, B. Graham, Will Johnson, Odoms, et al? They LOVE them some Rich Rodriguez. This kind of sick workout mentality will bring about a certian type of team in the years to follow. One that is so incredibly different that even with it's sucuess, won't revolutionize the Big Ten's ways...because how the hell do you mimic this? So, good luck to McGuff (not Boren) but this is a movement we are embarking on. WAR WOLVERINE. Also, at least they granted the kid a 'no restriction' transfer. |

If what Gsimms says about Schafer is true then Ezeh, barring being a complete moron, should improve greatly. If Schafer's strength is being a technician then an entire off-season with Ezeh should improve his weaknesses. If Ezeh was already maxed out on smarts but was just incredibly slow, then I'd be worried. Fitz will be great because I said so...there is no hole in that argument. Mouton is only OK? Perhaps...but as far as next year goes...I thought UFR's claimed him to be on the up and up and poised for a breakout year. |

Excellent interview. This kid actually goes to the high school that I went too (Quince Orchard). It's funny cause we have never had elite athletes in sports that mattered at our school...we were more known for our tennis and track, and for being the first public school in the country to have a computer lab...yep, that's the kind of stuff we had to hang our hats on. He did use a lot of positive adjectives but I think he really hinted strong at Oregon. The Barwis comment was nice...but I'm a little worried about the Oregon stuff. What the hell though...it's freakin OREGON. How good can there facilities be? And it's OREGON. FUCKING OREGON. Miami, LSU...I can understand wanting to go there...But Oregon? There's nothing out there...it sucks. I've never been there and I'm saying without any doubt that state has nothing to offer and sucks to live in. It should be annexed. If I told you it got annexed you'd probably be like "oh shit...really? Damn, I didn't see that" Because it's actually semi-beleivable that we would drop that worthless barely populated state. That state should be on notice... |
