'Wreck" is more accurate then "slid off a runway" as previously reported.  The magnitude of this accident:

1) Aborted takeoff at (assumed departure roll) high speed

2) Crashed through localizer antenna

3) Ran through 1,000' Runway safety area, presumably taking out a series of approach lights

4) Ran through a fence and across a road.

5) Passed over a swale, instead of diving into it, and

6) Collapsed all gear somewhere.

Yes, there are some safety designs in place (frangible coupling on navaids), safety area dimensions, and on-airport rescue, etc that contributed to the outcome.  And while it's perverse to use the term - a "spectacular" accident like this without fuel ignition, let alone without any serious injury is just about unheard of.  While most of us were worried about a game, this incident was likely at several junctures just a hair from us losing 109 members of our community, let alone the most deadly civil accident in near memory.

The Big10 Made a very egregious mistake

This could have very easily been an all fatal accident.  The pilot aborted a full-speed takeoff on departure roll, and apparently took out the localizer and approach light system, fence, stopped straddling a ditch, all without rupturing the fuselage or fuel tanks.  Often this is a partially fatal accident.  Whether you believe in a deity or outlier statistics, an outcome of "everyone OK" is unexpected.  They cheated death.

FAA guidance to airlines is to provide support post-event.  The first few hours to day is characterized by survivors not fully realizing their situation due to shock or cognitive dissonance.  Guidance is not for those involved to just "walk away" without some level of counseling or support.

I expect the players are focused in the tournament, and that is to be expected.  However, the University and Conference are supposed to be the adults.  They have not taken any steps that I am aware of to mitigate the psychological fallout of this accident.  I don't see it a stretch to compare this outcome (going ahead with the regularly scheduled game) to throwing Shane Morris back on the field with a concussion.

It's pretty unconscienable.

I live on the east coast and I live on the east coast and still think this is a terrible idea. I want to stab Jim Delaney in the balls with an ice pick.
Jebus. Did the worst of the Jebus. Did the worst of the football fan base just show up for the last 2 mins of the game?
Owners lease their jets out Owners lease their jets out to 3rd parties all the time (it doesn't make money if you keep it in a hangar).

Still, I have some powerful aerospace programs at work (think flight aware, but with better info), and can find out how it is being operated, which may say something further. I'll update then if interesting.

That being said though, highly likely that there's nothing to see here.

I like to play a game I call I like to play a game I call Gary Mick. What would the statline be for a healthy McGary if he played for the current Michigan opponent?

Today, I think he would go for 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.
It's hard to come back It's hard to come back against Wisconsin. They're probably the worst team to spot a lead to.
Wisconsin on pace to score Wisconsin on pace to score 112. But I bet they won't.
Pro tip: Don't let a badger go ham and shoot 8/10 from 3.

Hey. On the road, in Hey. On the road, in conference, and on national tv. For a team that is down its 3 best players from last year, this is a splendid outcome.

I wonder. But the free throw I wonder. But the free throw is there best shot right now.
I looked at the box score. I looked at the box score. Weird game to shoot 58% and only be up 1. Foul shots I guess.

8-4 next season. But a good 8-4 next season. But a good 8-4. As good as an 8-4 season can be with losses to all 3 main rivals plus the random WTF conference loss. Wait, only 1 random conference loss? Hmm, that's not very good.

Ok, 7-5. But a good 7-5. Besides all main rivals, only 2 random conference losses. Wait. There's no such thing as a good 7-5.

Stupid schedule.

Fire Borges. Fire Funk. Retire Fred.
There is some kind of irony There is some kind of irony here. While Lloyd declined, RR flamed out, Brandon preps for Levins senate seat, and Hoke fiddles, Hollis and Dantonio have quietly assembled exactly the kind of team Michigan has failed to.
Dantonio has become Dantonio has become progressively less a prick as he been able to let his team do the talking, on the field.

I hardly think of Gainesville as a destination, or South bend. So EL, yeah, I can buy it.
Can we make that the official Can we make that the official subversive bowl t shirt?
I think Borges, Funk, and I think Borges, Funk, and Jackson are all problems, and all for different reasons. At times I think Fred is slipping, either in his ability to identify talent or develop it. I also think Borges is as hands off with Funk as Hoke is with Borges - the result being a lack of familiarity/too much trust. Then I blame Borges according to the oft repeated refrain around here, that his offense puts players in a position to fail.

For whatever reason, these three critical coaching areas have apparently not meshed well (from an outsiders perspective). That fault does lie with the O.C., but you never know if a positional coaching change is all that is needed/also needed, or a full house cleaning is in order.

We would joke about our We would joke about our offense at times being, "Trey, go do something,"

I think what we didn't realize, was that Trey did most of it, and made it look so easy.
Fire _____ Hmmm. I was about to try to draw a parallel (young team, poor offensive performance)...

But JB has proven himself already. However, yikes. This Michigan team will have a tough time staying in the top 25, let alone contend in the big ten.
Lame cake I tuned in to watch a basketball game. A whistle concert ensued.

I think all big ten conference games will take 3 hrs a piece at this rate. The havoc with tv scheduling will force a a change back in refereeing. Book it.
Al - When preparing for a

Al - When preparing for a good defense like MSU's, do you have to look harder on film for areas to exploit, or do you focus more on what your own team does best?

Greg - Hypothetically, if Al employed the tempo/spread used by Indiana, do you think it offsets the extra burden it creates on your own defense?

Brady - Michigan fans and alumni are loyal and rabid, but don't always understand football lingo and concepts.  How can coaches balance engaging these fans with the other demands on their time?

We are moving and widening

We are moving and widening Delta for better access to the South GA ramp in the fall, and we are looking at plans for building a parallel taxiway to 15/33 with high speed exits (pipe dream).  There's not much point in widening Echo/Fox Trot  - wingtip clearance to parked aircraft on the South Ramp or incursion into the 6/24 safety area is the prohibition there.

What are you on?  If you're overnighting, are you flying the Dash 8?

Which was parked next to the Citation

The Tail is N868EM, for anyone who wants to plane stalk.

For MGOSpeculation sake, The M jet, Browns jet, and Secretary of State's DC-9 were all on the tarmac at the same time that Bill Belichick and Ben Stiller were on island.

And here's that Falcon trijet

What's the point of

What's the point of exclusivity if we make it too easy for people to get here?

FWIW, I'm installing a PAPI on 06 this fall.

I am the man from Nantucket. Really.

I work at ACK in Airport administration, and live here year round.  Let me know if you need any advice for handling the Island over the 4th.  And if you flew in on that Global, I'd love a tour! Noah 508-901-1175.

As for the rest of the board, I saw this Citation land, but didn't get a chance to talk with the pilot or passenger(s).  A lot of these corporate jets are also fractional ownership, so it could just be some random guy.

What was funny is that just two days, parked next to it on the ramp was a Falcon trijet with a Cleveland Browns logo.

I just dont know man,

The thing that gets me

Is that the knock on Al Borges is that he called a terrible second half...

1) Take away a busted coverage on the roundtree 75 yd td,

2) And poor tackling on Denard's 64 yarder,

And that leaves I believe, only 80 yards gained during the first half.  Even the second TD was on a drive extended by a roughing the passer penalty, and then again by a muffed punt/roughing kicker penalty.  That drive easily could have gone for nothing.

The thing is, man, that Michigan did not light it up in the first half.  OSU made a couple bad plays, all of which burned them.  Minus the bad plays, Michigan was blown out of there in the first half.

The second half played out exactly like the first, except OSU either made sound adjustments/got less unlucky.

In my opinion, the issue is not that Al called a terrible a second half.  On a sustainable basis, the game plan was untenable.  That it happened to work in the first half was more a result of getting all of the breaks.

Depending on how irate you are, you then can ask if this was just a bad game plan in general, or an extension of an ineffective/hybrid/young/bad offense?

Showed a solar car.

Which made me think it was our solar car.

Which made me think Michigan was buying air time during other Big Ten games.

Which would be really funny.

i see what you did there

And I like it.

I was originally going to be defensive

But then I saw your avatar.  And then your point.

I guess the moral of the story is one should avoid telling others who to vote for, pray to, or be pissed at.

Apparently this is not the time

to appeal to rationality and perspective.

I'm not a football mind either.

But I would expect that good defenses (use the term elite, for the ones you feel are deserving) make many offensive coordinators look inept.

All I know that I can apply to football is a basic grasp of management techniques:

1) Don't move to fire someone without a succession plan

2) Evaluate someone based upon their full body of work

3) Give them an opportunity to self evaluate their performance

Let's assume this was a very poorly executed second half.  So,

1) Who is more qualified and ready to step in in the case of an immediately fireable offense?

2) When your employee (Al) has had the necessary resources at his disposal, over an appropirate length of time, what have been the results? How do you judge acceptability?

3) What does your employee (Al again) have to say about how he made and implemented his decisions?

Then of course, you judge carefully, and look out for bullshit.  But its a process, not a revelation.

And I think Brady is a better manager than most of us, and I am happy with his opinion.

And no, I'm not relaxed.  I was raised in Ohio and will hear about it all year.

That may all be very true

But before we turn to an evening of rabble rabble rawrr grumble, go play with your kids or take a walk with your wife.  Or call your mom.

Derive some purpose from living your own life, not getting worked up over a game you had no control in.

We just dont know, man.  Maybe Al and Brady played conservative becasue the defense was lights out and keeping everything one posession.  Or maybe they're just dicks.  At this point, both are reasonable hypothesis.

If people want to rant, do it tomorrow, or go somewhere else.  You'll be better served in life learning some self control or developing more positive coping mechanisms than demanding someone's head outright.

There is a thin line for Hoke There is a thin line for Hoke to walk here. I agree with a minimum suspension. At least 5 games, and that's IF he can turn his life around/fulfill his obligations. At the same time though, I am against dismissal. He needs his team more than ever right now. Ideally, football will keep him in school and working towards a degree. Take that away from him and he's likely just another hard luck story. I want my team to represent the school well. And maybe Stonum has lost that privilege to represent on the field. We'll see. But part of what I want out of my school is to see that we don't abandon a young man just because he can no longer contribute to a revenue sport. I hope he has the opportunity to graduate, and that is best done by not removing him from the team. But at the same time, I think a standard for discipline has to be set. And I think Hoke gets that.
